Very good review as always and I think I have sorted my typing conversion out. Played around with my friends DJI OSMO which he had connected to his phone could not understand the reason for this when his phone has great stabilisation seemed good but I like the Go Pro 7 better looked at the 8 in my local store but no way to replace the lens cover or any other parts if they break looks like I will have to keep my mobile phone canon 7d mk2 and pocket TZ90 a little longer.
Aside from the "beginner," this is for those whom have become accustom to shooting on the big-small screen (who isn't?), but always wished they were not handicapped by a tiny sensor (and not limited to software shenanigans). The XA-7 is a base model Toyota Camery (eh?...eh?). Point and Shoot A to Point and Shoot B; but with the capability to go somewhere unexpected. This, coming from a former XT-2, XH-1, XT-30 and GFX owner.
Thank you for your excellent in depth review. I love your videos. I'm more certain about XA7 now. I've been using Canon SL1/100D for years. While I love the small form factor and Canon's color production, I've always been dissapointed with its lowlight performance as I usually can't bring the iso higher than 800. Seeing your lowlight photo samples on XA7, it looks really good. In your experience is it the best lowlight performance for that price range (budget/beginner camera)? And is the fuji XC 15-45 kit lens better than Canon's mirrorless kit lens? I would really appreciate your opinions on this 🙏 thanks before!
I don't have the tools to do that kind of detail - check at dpreview where they do. As for the 15-45mm lens, I'd avoid it as it's Fujifilm's least desirable lens. The 18-55 is the better choice.
I bought my first camera baby.. the black one. And i'm glad that i watched your review yesterday about the cam. Subscribed aldready sir😊 Kiddos to you sir. And i will ask if what is your recommended tripod for this cam?
Thanks for the kind words. For tripods, you'll need to specifiy if you're shooting stills or video,; whether you're travelling a lot or relatively static; and what kind of shoots you're planning - night sky, blurred waterfalls ???
Free and fully refundable ... but not tax deductible? Thanks for the review. I don’t know why I’m watching it, though. Having recently purchased a 90D I'm certainly not going to buy another camera for years to come. Maybe I just enjoy hearing your voice.
Thank you so much for such an explanatory review! I'm looking for a beginner's #mirrorless #camera. Your review has helped me made my decision. Thank you.
hello sir. your videos are very helpful to me. sir i have a question before buying it. does it have any heating issue while 4k video rec. i just have to shot some music videos and im getting a deal under 400$.
Hi Maarten, what a great video - so glad I found it. At 12:12 you mention a ND filter, can I ask which one you are using? I'm a complete camera novice, so any help would be gratefully received - I'm sure lie most thing this could take a whole video, so just pointing me in the right direction would be terrific. If you need to know how to play a C9 chord, I'm your man, but not so much with cameras! Thanks in advance, Simon
My only recommendation (as the most important factor is the filter diameter you need) is to avoid variable ND. They tend to have more colour cast than the fixed ND type, and they have a tendency to inadvertently change the setting. The brand I like and use is B+W bhpho.to/2BSGtyk For most video work 3-5 stops is suitable for bright sunlit scenes.
Another great review as always. That is too bad about the poor AF performance while vlogging. The stabilization seems decent enough and that flip screen would make this a great Fuji camera to vlog with if not for the poor AF. Was the AF performance worse than the xt100 in your experience? Thanks.
Thanks for the kind words. Really, yes. In spite of the other good focus performance. I just couldn't understand why when I was centred, the closest object and had the focus square on my face it wouldn't stay with me. On other models, like the X-T3 and X-T30, AFC in video is excellent.
Hi sir i am planing to buy fuji A 7 this week . Is there any option for saving a custom settings in still and video modes.. i will be waiting for your reply. Thank you
I'm not sure what you mean by macro mode. If you want to take macro images, you'll need a lens that has the appropriate magnification and ability to focus at close distances. Fujifilm makes several good macro lenses, and there are some good third party lenses as well: th-cam.com/video/swyrIJ0JSjs/w-d-xo.html
Very good video as always. Not interested in this camera but truly educational and keeps me informed of my buying options. I'm always keeping Fujifilm in mind. Light trails mode looks like Olympus Live Composite mode? Do you think that you will be reviewing the Olympus E-M5 III? Thanks - Rob P
@@MaartenHeilbron I'm pretty sure I know what to expect from the E-M5 III since much comes from the E-M1 II. It was your video that got me thinking of Olympus as an option.
Wow, this was the best detailed reviews I've seen on this particular model! I am debating between this X A7 or the Nikon 5600. Primarily using more for photos over video. Beginner camera but looking to grow with one. Any help with deciding between those 2 cameras? Thanks!!
Hello sir. Nice review but if u were to choose between sony a6400 and this fuji ax7 which one is nice quality for you. ? I mean quality when it comes to videography and photography....
Although I would judge the quality to be similar (and Fujifilm offers better lenses at lower prices than Sony), the A6400 is by a good margin the better camera. Particularly for video.
Thank you for the great video. Did the auto focus work poorly when recording videos other than vlogging? Can it keep up with active children playing around?
Wow! That's a really good in depth camera settings review! I'm a beginner and looking to buy fujifilm xt200 or xa7.. I'm inclined towards the xt200 because it's package with the 15 to 45mm and the 230mm lens... I think I'll learn better having two lenses.. again since I'm an amateur.. all I know I buying lenses would be expensive. But the XA7 is cheaper for me.. I'm really confused. I like depth of field in my pictures and that's why I feel the 230mm lens is important to me. Any suggestions?
Thanks for this tutorial. But I don't understand why my X-A7 menu does not have the 'focus check' function as you highlighted on 15:13? It is a new camera with the latest firmware installed 1.01 Any idea?
Hello Maarten. I wonder if you would care to share your thoughts on the built-in mic? Is it up to the job? I realise that serious vloggers will go for an external mic but how does the internal mic perform? Thanks.
I'd be happy to share my thoughts, which apply to all consumer cameras. Don't use the internal mic for any serious purpose, except maybe for background ambiance. The mic is an inexpensive low quality component, and you'lll place the camera in the right place for images, not sound. So, it cannot possibly be any good.
I've been trying to figure out what camera to purchase, and I found your channel while looking for reviews. I really enjoy your reviews and find them super helpful! I had been looking at the Fujifilm X-A5 and the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III. Your review helped me eliminate the Olympus from my options. My budget is really more along the lines of those two (under $500 USD), but now I'm wondering if there is enough of an improvement in the X-A7 to wait until I have more money to spend. What do you think? Or do you think there is a better option? (If it makes a difference, I have an old Canon Rebel T3, so I'm not just coming from a phone camera, but I also wouldn't say I'm a super advanced/experienced photographer.)
@@MaartenHeilbron I'm really just looking for something smaller and lighter. The longer I have the T3, the more it gets left at home because i just don't want to carry it around. Something with better video quality would be nice, though I don't shoot a ton of video. Also, at this point, my phone can take better quality photos than the T3 with a lot less effort.
Nice review sir. Actually i was looking for sample images with kit lens to see the quality. Where can I get those? Another question does it really beats other brands canon nikon in this price segment?
Maarten Heilbron thanks but were those images reduced by flickr or those are the original files?? Coz few of the low light shots looked grainy and distorted while zooming on my iPad. Like that last pic of young guitarist quite grainy and in that big public sitting hall none of thier faces looks clear.
Just watched this when trying to find a everyday pocket camera and I like your style of presenting. I am not a v logger and my focus is on stills. But sometimes it is nice to be able to make a short video. Anyway, I hold an X-T1 in my hands and now hope a x-80 will come out asap. I the meantime I consider Ricoh GR3 or the old x-70 as a pocket camera, but I wonder if you can suggest another model ?
Thank you for that informative detailed video. I was rather impressed with the video stabilisation. I first noticed this camera because of the Camel colour 😊. Certainly tempting,
Fujifilm X-A7 vs Canon M50 for uploading to YT and streaming on Twitch? I'm gearing towards the newer Fuji camera because of superior 4k uncropped and value with all lens comparability. But Canon's AF is the best in the business. I will mainly be creating 1080p to 1440p/2K videos though. I can't decide, penny for your thoughts?
I would not agree that Canon's focus is the best. They use the same phase detect system as others - they've just been better at marketing it with a fancy pseudo-tech name. Either way, both cameras are good. There is little advantage to an uncropped 4K mode and no-one on youtube or twitch would notice any difference.
Hi...first of all, thanks for the detailed review. My current camera is a Canon 550D/T2i which I had purchased in October, 2012. I have two lenses apart from the 18-55mm i.e. the 55-250 and the 50mm. Is there a way to use these lenses with the Fuji X-A7? Thanks in advance for the reply.🙏
Thanks, it was a pleasure to read your kind words. If there is an adapter (pretty sure there would be) it would not offer you the capabilities (auto focus, auto aperture) that the native x-mount lenses do.
@@MaartenHeilbron Thanks for the reply. I did check online to see if there are any adapters and indeed there are a few of them. But as you rightly pointed out, nothing like having a native lens.
@@MaartenHeilbron what external flashes are compatible? Have a Godox TT685F but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to enable it to work with the camera. Update: I actually got it to work now. The reason is that I am on burst mode. Setting it back to "Still" and my flash is firing now.
Awesome review Maarten, nicely put together. I use my Sony A6000 for occasional vlogging (say once a month, and usually indoors). Would the X-A7 ($530) or the X-T200 ($660) be worthy upgrades to the A6000? If yes, which one do you recommend given my usage?
Hello, does this camera overheat if record 4K for an 60minutes by preressing Record each 15 minutes? If Overheat due battery I can change it to adapter battery. Want to pick this camera for vlog versus Canon M50, per it's stanning image against Canon, but somtimes I am recording shows and 15 minutes too low, but no problem to click Record again, but I afraid to get overheat, how real is it , specially in Full HD? Hope it is nothing like Panagonic GX880 Thanks )
Any small camera will overheat, it's impossible to predict how quickly as it's dependent on the ambient temperature. If you need to record 4K video continuously for 60 minutes, do not purchase this camera. Look at a larger camera like the Fujifilm X-H1, or X-T3.
How is the overall build quality of this camera? Is it good enough to last long? Which camera shall I choose Fuji XA7 or XT100 or Canon M50? or shall I wait for XT200? I like the ability to charge battery over usb port which makes it more portable which is missing in M50.
The one that's best for you will be the one that fits your wallet, your hand (size and weight if you're vlogging) and your sense of style. In terms of features and quality, fairly similar. However, if you intend to shoot 4K, both have significant drawbacks.
Hello sir, one more request. Can you make a comparison video between Fujifilm X-A7 vs Fujifilm X-T100. As both are in the same price range. I'm confused which one should i buy. Please help, thank you.
Confused b/w xa7 and xt200.. EVF is the only difference and how useful is it? This will be my first camera and I'm bit confused. I need it mostly for photos.. Videos will be rare.. Please advise..
I would suggest that's not a question I can answer for you. If you are content to shoot with just the LCD, then you don't need the EVF. I prefer a camera with an EVF as it provides additional stability and doesn't get washed out in bright sunlight.

Thank you for your review, your voice is very calm i love it, especially the photo samples! They’re really good pictures. I have a question though about the tones and film simulation, compared to the xt100 which one is better in your opinion? Or are they not that much difference?
I tried scrolling to see similar questions in case someone asked this already, but the comment I found is regarding the zoom quality. Would really love the input, thank you againn
I appreciate your kind words, thanks! They are very similar, I would not be able to tell them apart from the images only.
Very good review as always and I think I have sorted my typing conversion out.
Played around with my friends DJI OSMO which he had connected to his phone could not understand the
reason for this when his phone has great stabilisation seemed good but I like the Go Pro 7 better
looked at the 8 in my local store but no way to replace the lens cover or any other parts if they break
looks like I will have to keep my mobile phone canon 7d mk2 and pocket TZ90 a little longer.
Thanks for sharing your sad story. I can fully sympathize. Or is that empathize? Not sure.
Thanks for adding your thoughts.
Vous utilisez quelle caméra 📷 pour filmer ce beau vidéo svp?
Cette vidéo a été enregistrée avec le Fujifilm X-H1 et l'objectif 16-55 mm. Merci pour vos mots gentils.
@@MaartenHeilbron thank you for your reply!
Very thorough review, thank you.

Planning to get this with the 35mm f2, vs the m200 with the 22mm f2, both would also have kits, heard Fuji's kit is better than Canon or Sony kits
That would be my assessment. In general Fujifilm's kit lenses tend to be of higher quality (15-45 is the exception).
hello sir. your videos are very helpful to me.
sir i have a question before buying it.
does it have any heating issue while 4k video rec.
i just have to shot some music videos and im getting a deal under 400$.
Yes. If your purpose is video, this is not a good choice. Consider the X-T3 or X-T4 instead, they are superior video models in every way.
@@MaartenHeilbron well thank you sir. aaaahem
The brand I like and use is B+W bhpho.to/2BSGtyk
For most video work 3-5 stops is suitable for bright sunlit scenes.
@@MaartenHeilbron Thank you so much Maarten, very kind of you to reply. All the best, Simon
Appreciate you doing a test vlog with in camera audio. Seemed lacking. Good detailed review and tutorial 👍

Thank you
Some settings can be saved, but not modes like stills and video.
Thank you for this video review, Maarten. May you please inform me if this camera has a macro mode? Thank you.

Wow, this was the best detailed reviews I've seen on this particular model! I am debating between this X A7 or the Nikon 5600. Primarily using more for photos over video. Beginner camera but looking to grow with one. Any help with deciding between those 2 cameras? Thanks!!
I think I'd take the D5600.
Thank you, that was my first choice! Thanks so much!

Maarten, Great review. I am mostly interested in using this camera behind a teleprompter. Have you found a good AC supply for this model?
Any USB-C type will power the camera
Thank you for the great video. Did the auto focus work poorly when recording videos other than vlogging? Can it keep up with active children playing around?
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words.
Probably not. There is a lack of focus capability in video mode.
@@MaartenHeilbron what about the autofocus capability in photo mode? was that ok?

Buy the X-T200 with the 23mm lens. Leave the 15-45 (it's not very good) and buy another better lens later.
Thanks for this tutorial. But I don't understand why my X-A7 menu does not have the 'focus check' function as you highlighted on 15:13? It is a new camera with the latest firmware installed 1.01 Any idea?
Oh, found it. No worries. Thanks.
Glad to hear, thanks for the update.
Amazing review sir
I am confused between xa7 and xt100 which is better in your opinion?
I don't have a preference here - you should decide based on which fits your hand and your wallet best.
@@MaartenHeilbron Thanks Maarten, the addition of a Rode VideoMicro has made quite a difference.
@@63qxy Thanks for the update, glad to hear.
What is there about the T3 that is no longer satisfying? What are you hoping for as an improvement with a new camera?
@@MaartenHeilbron I'm really just looking for something smaller and lighter. The longer I have the T3, the more it gets left at home because i just don't want to carry it around. Something with better video quality would be nice, though I don't shoot a ton of video. Also, at this point, my phone can take better quality photos than the T3 with a lot less effort.
@@nickimount9620 So, why not just use the phone?
Great review and tutorial as always! Could you tell me if I can change the metering mode? I could not find it in the camera.
Right. It's called photometry in the menu and it's not available when face detection is on.
Thanks for your kind words.
Very informative. Thank you. Can you please tell me how to remove the time and date setting from the photo?
It is called Date Stamp in the Save Data Settings on the Setup tab.
Thanks, I appreciate your kind words.
Nice review sir. Actually i was looking for sample images with kit lens to see the quality. Where can I get those? Another question does it really beats other brands canon nikon in this price segment?
Some of my images were taken with the kit lens. Check out my flickr album (link in description).
Maarten Heilbron thanks but were those images reduced by flickr or those are the original files?? Coz few of the low light shots looked grainy and distorted while zooming on my iPad. Like that last pic of young guitarist quite grainy and in that big public sitting hall none of thier faces looks clear.

@@jackdobinson good tip

Any small camera will overheat, it's impossible to predict how quickly as it's dependent on the ambient temperature. If you need to record 4K video continuously for 60 minutes, do not purchase this camera.
Look at a larger camera like the Fujifilm X-H1, or X-T3.
Wish it has a viewfinder then I would definitely buy it. Great review, definitely subscribing 👍🏻

Every small camera overheats in 4K mode. This more than most.
