Hi Tim, just discovered your U Tubes in fact just discovered what U tubes are in the last couple of weeks - you know I am an old dinosaur. Really easy to follow your demonstration on tying this fly. See you at our water I expect in the not too distant future. Well done you.Keep up the good work.
I need to get out to my bench again soon and tie up some river dries for the Welsh Dee as I have just been told I will be once again in the EPFFA England team for the PSUK Internationals in June this year Covid permitting plus I have our Eliminator for the EPFFA England team on the River Ure in July. Then I have our EPFFA still water championships in April on Rutland so hope to again qualify for the EPFFA England squad for the PSUK Still Waters International on Brenig in September so any spare time is likely to see me tying..
I have subscribed - whatever that means.

I tie this as a wet fly/nymph. I add a brass bead instead of the gold dubbing for the head. Fish it dead drift or swing it. DEADLY!!

Hi Tim great fly thanks for your help and advice. What size tippet do you use for dry fishing on Grafham, how thin would you go down too.
    Cheers

8lb 0.020mm no need to go any finer ... I use wychwood ghostmode or airflo G3 which is a little thicker .... degreasing is key ... With reservoir fish I wouldn't go any lower than that ... there really is no need

Imitate ? ... Not much and some of everything . I personally think they have them as a trout pellet or beetle . Theres a long story about how this fly was developed , basically it came about after a night drinking at the pub and the inventor trying to tie hoppers for the next days match ! It works very well on newly stocked fish and is very popular on the match scene for that reason , also angler like it because they can see it easily .. Personally I prefer a slim hopper pattern .... Thanks for watching
