Similar story, at age 11, after coming to the US in 93', I found my first American money on the ground, which was a dime. Made me excited, I suddenly felt rich, and that it was free too. Things are better now though, those were just rough times. It was mostly the affect of novelty coupled with curiosity and excitement of something other-worldly.
waterworks.....gah I'm not a millionaire and I havent been through a lot of hardship but this made me cry, and also makes me very very grateful for what I have, never complain about your circumstances.
Tania, that speech of yours was truly moving. Millionaire or not, you have something that money can't buy - an incredibly positive attitude!! Cheers to that and good luck:)!!
Excellent talk! I'm impressed by how her smile is sincere after going through so much, and how her joy is found in such small bittersweet memories. Incredibly inspiring.
Everybody can learn something from this, no matter what situation they are in; to worry less about what you don't have and appreciate more what you do.
I think the lesson is to be grateful for what you have, it might not seem much to you but its more than a lot of people could ever want even in their wildest dreams
Reminds me of a sweet friend of mine who ran away from home at 12 in Elsalvadore making her ways through central america on the roofs of trains and in mexico and then across the border into LA where she ended up as the property of a gang leader in east LA. After many years she escaped him and took her 3 kids on the run from him. now at 50 she lives a quiet life helping others, I help her as much as I can.
there are countless people who see the luxury they live in as normal and they often cry about the most trivial things. and even if you are aware of the fortune you live in, the process of recognizing it is never completed but ongoing till your last day. so at least as a reminder, this talk is valuable for everybody. but if you don't feel that this talk is relevant to you, i don't understand why you wrote a comment in the first place.
Like this speaker, I suspect that my own level of gratitude/happiness is higher than it would be had I been blessed with an abundant childhood. How excited do rich kids become when they get a new shirt or a candy bar? When I was teaching I would sometimes give treats to the whole class, and you could see some kids were really happy and grateful, and others were not impressed. Which do you suppose had happier lives? I hope and pray that adults who were rich when young can also enjoy gratitude.
Problem is, we are seeking out problems wherever we go - see what I did there? It became so hard to just relax and enjoy what life already offers you, without questioning it or without letting it be overshadowed by some new problem that came up. For some unfortunate people, this is almost impossible. Good talk.
a beautiful yet heartrending talk that shows us even in extreme hardships people are able to overcome and end up in a better place without feelings of bitterness.
Very sad and very beautiful story. There's too many people in the world where so little means so much and those of us who have more don't even appreciate it.
a talk like this shouldn't have the comment section activated. It's painful to see others arguing over things that have nothing to do with her talk. It's like seeing a beautiful flower surrounded by piles of rubbish
Don't miss the point, gratitude is also understanding our appreciation to share when you do not use something or can not or will not possible eat it. Caring is sharing.

Okay, I see that you've been downvoted. Don't let this discourage you. Just remember that not everyone enacts changes in the same way. This is why individuals, through whatever motivations and convictions they have acquired, are the enablers of their beliefs. Individual action, not words, are what makes the world move.
Idk...I think being humble, having a positive outlook, and perseverance are all great ideas worth spreading especially to today's youth that think not having an iphone or the latest video games and clothes is the end of the world. Moreover, the story provides a great insight into the lives of those whom politicians tend to view as "moochers," and this story couldn't have been more opposite. In brief, I thought it was great story as u and indeed, one that is worth spreading
Oh i get the message she saying. Be grateful with what what you have and that there are people worse off than you But society have been repeating that over and over so i didn't really learn anything new from this. Good for those who did though.
Perspective. That which many take for granted or would turn up their nose at is treasured by others. Give. Of your money and yourself so that someone who has less, can have more.
What you're refering to is often reduced to patronizing remarks such as "get over it, there are people starving in Africa" or "nevermind your job, my friend has cancer, feel lucky". Here she's reminiscing her childhood when so little was so much. Almost missing the time when she had less. And most of all, appreciating her difficult youth that allowed her to cherish the smallest things. Also, knowing doesn't mean practicing. You need to be reminded of certain things.
I'm sure what you meant to say was: The love of money is the root of all evil. Money is just a tool, like a screwdriver, it can buy medicine for the sick or sex with a prostitute. If we didn't have money, we would invent it, but there's a big difference between needing money and loving money. Wanting money for its own sake is how many people lose their humanity.
er loads, a fairly ordinary house in many parts of the UK is about a million dollars these days, I know a lot of middle class dollar millionaires. But she still said they "feel" like millionaires, anyway, didn't she? Not that they are millionaires? ie. that they feel grateful for what they've got.

Gratitude = "Great Attitude"
Staying positive despite the hardships. She chose to be happy instead of lamenting and being miserable.
She made me cry. Really touching. :(
short and sweet. she truly knows how beautiful life can be
Why am I crying??? That was amazing. She and her family are amazing!
Excellent talk! I'm impressed by how her smile is sincere after going through so much, and how her joy is found in such small bittersweet memories. Incredibly inspiring.

That was awesome. No other words to describe it. She did a great job of telling the story too.
I found that same penny once before, thank you for sharing, Tania.
To me it's a great story of how, with the right circumstances even the smallest and least significant things can carry great importance.
Beautifully said, Tania...

Thanks for your courage and spirit of gratitude!

Amen, I come from a family of immigrants and understand the message of gratitude completely. Great message ...
To be poor and still be happy, it's a true blessing.
a beautiful yet heartrending talk that shows us even in extreme hardships people are able to overcome and end up in a better place without feelings of bitterness.
Loved this! Almost made me cry :)
Her smile is probably so sincere just because she went through so much.
Brilliant at putting everything back into perspective, just what I needed!
Very sad and very beautiful story. There's too many people in the world where so little means so much and those of us who have more don't even appreciate it.
I think the point is that we as privileged people should always be grateful with what we do have and think about people who don't have as much.
One of our rescues is a street dog from Mexico. Never known an animal who loved as he does. And snuggles. so many snuggles

Beautiful talk. Things that are naturally created become beautiful.
This one was sweet :) short, sweet, and simple and a thousand times lovely.
moral of the story...its not about what you have its about what you feel and what u can make out of it?...love the story
You makes me aware of that money is not everything.
You are what you think.
Excellent video...
It's wonderful that you rescued Scarlet. We need to learn to be contented and not live our lives as hungry ghosts.
Don't miss the point, gratitude is also understanding our appreciation to share when you do not use something or can not or will not possible eat it. Caring is sharing.
this talk was beautiful. i am so grateful for my life right now!
this made me cry...
Beautiful.
One of the best stories I've heard! Thank you! Thank you so much!
Happiness has nothing to do with money, maybe not to that degree, but it has everything to do gratitude and satisfaction.
Thanks for this story Mam... Really touching... It is amazing how you tell this story with a beautiful smile on your face :)
Tear jerkingly amazing
Thank you. I do enjoy house music, Davey.

It's all ours indeed!
amazingly beautiful
i actually cried...
It is nostalgia..

what was it?
i was trying not to cry... but then the dog....
That was awesome.
But imagine how scary it must have been for black rain to fall and for your hair to fall out and eeugh... the thought terrifies me.
Awesome
Life's made of little things,
because there's nothing any bigger.
Note that in Ukraine everyone is not poor and the US is not this utopian wonderland that seems to humble and generous to everyone...
Yes, yes it is!
She said middle class struggles at the end, how many middle class millionaires do you know ?
