If I had to guess, ancient skeletons are made to spawn when you're least expecting them, on islands away from your ship etc., so seeing as you were away from your ship for nearly the entirety of your playtime, it greatly increased the chance for them to spawn.
It doesn't actually work that way when player get near an island they will spawn on the island but ships never spawn well atleast they won't attack u if they did

@@thatguy5 This boggles my mind too! What drives a whole galleon crew to fruitlessly keep coming back to be killed and sunk my mine, for an hour? Maybe because admitting defeat is more painful for them?
Honestly one of the worst aspects of the game and Rare keeps refusing to do anything about it. Sick of sinking the same crew 4 times just to make sure my FoF isn't stolen.
For real though, you would think they could have a built in mechanic where if you get wiped (i.e. whole crew dies and ship sinks) by the same crew multiple times (I don't know, maybe say, 3 times?) that you and your crew get migrated to another server. That would solve grief issues on both sides.
I remember how I did beat the fleet with just a rowboat, my main ship had sunk, but I had lots of bombs and only 3 ships left. Then I just grabbed all the chest and row to the nearest outpost
back in the early seasons of the game me and my buddy almost lived off of rowboats. row to island, loot supplies, repeat, row to skullfort, hide boat, tuck and wait, steal the goods from the rightful crew that beat it, repeat. being chased by brig, jettison myself in the rowboat with the loot while we circle a rock and let my crewmate manning the sloop lead them on a goose chase while i row halfway across the map to ancient spire. good times.
the cannon rowboat is technically the smallest ship because: you can get on and off it, it has a cannon to defend itself, you can store loot on it, and it has a way to sink. It may be missing the map table and storage barrels but you can replace the storage barrels with storage crate.
The devs had a concept for a gunboat, that would be suitable for a single crewmate, but the idea was scrapped and the smallest ship we currently have is the sloop.

I've always loved the rowboats in this game. Great video! Also I love that you sailed the key into the Red, I so often do the same when I am accosted by a larger and/or better attacking force. It's why I love the Brigantine, it's not great for solo pvping, but its indubitably excellent as a solo Runner. Being as it's faster than the sloop in 3/4ths of wind direction and faster than the Gally 2/4ths of wind directions making it great for running. One of those directions is also wind from behind-at-an-angle. The sloop's fastest speed is the fastest of the Slowest, making it a higher likelihood that while running the wind direction will change and making it harder to get off-map before you are chased down. The Brig's behind-at-an-angle advantage gives it more speed while escaping, it's size is a bit annoying but not impossible at all for a solo, and it's 2/4ths of the time being faster advantage over the Gally makes it the best runner for a solo who is 100% dedicated to running from pvp. Also makes it great for sailing into the Red and giving them all a big middle finger on the way down. Considering I find some of the best pvp'ers to be Sloopers, and it's faster in every single wind direction except straight on against, it's my by-far favorite. Though I do love the sloop's small size, simplicity, and relaxing nature. Just wish it had some speed!

Now, when I say this I in no way mean to be rude... for me this is old hat. For a very long time I have been rowing around without a ship for the same perks that you mentioned in this video and yes, I have completed forts while doing so. That being said, I seriously enjoyed watching you discover the thrill of pirating via rowboat and enjoyed it immensely when you trashed those rabid, toxic, sore losers time and time again only to drive the nail in their metaphorical coffin by dumping the key. Priceless! 😆
At first I was a bit sad that you weren't cashing things in, but when I realized you were purely doing this for the adventure (and also to screw over toxic players) I loved it
Once me and my friend got attacked by a kraken after looting a fort of fortune and rowboated all the way to a outpost through a storm and survived getting attacked by a galleon
I think this is the video where Cliff gets stuck on an island and tries to cook some food up on a campfire but a storm comes in and shuts him down. In the video, Cliff gives up on the idea - but it is actually possible to cook on a campfire in a storm. The fire goes out a moment after you light it with the torch but you get about 2~3 seconds worth of cook time. For your standard meat, it takes about two minutes instead of the usual 65s - and you'll have to relight the fire about 20x - but you will have a cooked piece of meat afterwards.
I love this! Definitely something I wouldn't recommend, but it's pretty fun! A long time ago I managed to capture and deliver a reapers chest with my friend using just a rowboat to see if it could be done.
Coming back to watch this adventure reminds of the time I was trying to fully complete Stars of a Thief but kept getting bullied by galleons so I said screw it and did the whole thing in a rowboat just to avoid being seen. Was tedios, but still kinda fun in a way
I'm a new SoT player (started a few days ago) and I'm really glad I found your channel. I'm gonna have to sub! I'm gonna go watch more of your vids, thank you for your work on your channel, really great stuff!
I love how goofy me and my buddy look trying to ride the rowboats. Definitely takes some getting use to. Another reason I love the harpoon one, just pull my tail in
After meeting few Poles you acquired their most significant trait: crab mentality. And nonetheless it was really satisfying to see you run away with the key. Good job on showing them
I have LOVED doing rowboat only and swim till you find a rowboat then rowboat only challenges. Got some of my most memorable moments that way. Like rowing alongside one of flamehearts fleet (when they were still here) to hide behind the ghost galleon to sneak up on a sloop and got a double keg on them and got my rowboat clear too!
I regularly do "rowboat" only days. It really helps you to value your health and change your decision making. I sunk a brig and 2 sloop reaper alliance with a rowboat. They chased me to an island and I killed them with turrets and kegs.

Deckshot right in the middle of a gally playing shanties and emoting. Totally accidental
Soo me and my crew we on a brig ran in a keg and our boat launched in the air and I las in the bottom deck and it was wild
Tucking on a FoF, stealing the Athena, attacking brig attacked the one I was tucking on. Sailed away, sold the Athena while laughing.
you and captain falcore are the sea of thieves youtubers i live for
I'd love to see a galleon crew on a rowboat playthrough
Same. It would be interesting to see how a large crew operates and communicates on a single harpoon boat, cannon boat, or a combination of two of them.
in my opinion, this is hands down the best sea of thieves content right now
You deserve SO MUCH more subscribers and views than you currently have… imma share your YT channel on the official sea of thieves discord, my g. Please keep up the awesome content!
Priceless! 😆
Its so nice watching this channel grow congrats Cliff
3:55 ah yes, the philosophy of sea of theives: rare giveth, rare taketh.
This video was glorious, my hats off to you my man
Speaking as a person who regularily Rowboats the Devil's Roar, I approve.
absolutely love it, keep it up
Glad you enjoy it!
Bro u are quickly becoming my favorite content creator love your style man keep it up and u got a long time supporter with me.
“Why couldnt you accept your loss” - The guy who hasnt won yet
Some mad mental gymnastics at play with that dude
At first I was a bit sad that you weren't cashing things in, but when I realized you were purely doing this for the adventure (and also to screw over toxic players) I loved it
for the ancient skeletons, i feel like it would be better to slice instead of dash, more dps, right?
Not sure tbh
angry doublegunner sounds
0:41 that oh thats going to be miserable hahahahah too good
Coming up on 100 hours and I have yet to see a single ancient skeletons
1 year later did you ever find one?
@@GoofyCheese624 A couple though they were during events which increased their spawn rates
Bro you owe this man so big for dealing with some of your ideas... That's a TRUE friend right there 🤣🤣🤣
Once me and my friend got attacked by a kraken after looting a fort of fortune and rowboated all the way to a outpost through a storm and survived getting attacked by a galleon
The only good sot creator that isn’t pvp dominated, keep it up bro
Holy shit 3 ancient skellys tho, havent found one and been playing since release with bigger or smaller breaks...
Maybe the rowboat is the key to finding them 😅
@@CliffTheStoryGuy for real 🤣
Uploading this often with it being a good video idea and funny? This man is a legend
Funny? 😳
Gently down the stream
It's taken 2 years but someone has to say it. That was funny
Ageeeeeeded
The good old days of PvP. "This is no longer my prime objective; teaching these guys a lesson is."
yep that last group is why I will never buy Sea of Thieves
I am jokeing ofc
"Barring getting Rared" has to be my favorite phrase ever muttered by a SoT player
A boat can fit into a ship. But a ship cannot fit in a boat - Edward Kenway.
Its a good day when cliff uploads
I love how you organized the closed captions. Keep it up!
I love this! Definitely something I wouldn't recommend, but it's pretty fun! A long time ago I managed to capture and deliver a reapers chest with my friend using just a rowboat to see if it could be done.
Respect to Brandon for putting up with this
Ah man i love how you pissed those guys of and even dragged the key to the end of the world🤣
Absolut chad
The quality of these videos amaze me, good shit bro!
What a way to show up those salty sailors. Keep up the good content!
Coming back to watch this adventure reminds of the time I was trying to fully complete Stars of a Thief but kept getting bullied by galleons so I said screw it and did the whole thing in a rowboat just to avoid being seen. Was tedios, but still kinda fun in a way
Small channel, nice community, great voice, great story... I see a growth in here... Staying here for ever!
I'm a new SoT player (started a few days ago) and I'm really glad I found your channel. I'm gonna have to sub! I'm gonna go watch more of your vids, thank you for your work on your channel, really great stuff!
4:04 trying to build a crying powered jet engine
12:13 Bugs bunny voice: "Of course you realise, this means war."
This is why i watch cliff, doing the dumbest stuff and being able to get away with, absolute legend
I have watched 3 videos total about this game and it looks like an amazing time.
How is this guy not already at 4 mill bro he deserves it bro so wishing you the best in the future keep making good content.
my joy is immeasurable
and my day is better
I love the pirate spirit in this video, defeated the fort, and then sank the key ahhahahah
This was so fun to watch! "The story guy" is a very accurate description.
I tell myself I won’t finish the video but EVERYTIME I can’t stop watch 😂
Top tier Sea of Thieves content
I regularly do "rowboat" only days. It really helps you to value your health and change your decision making. I sunk a brig and 2 sloop reaper alliance with a rowboat. They chased me to an island and I killed them with turrets and kegs.
I’ve been waiting so long for you to upload😅
A week can feel very long when one awaits the arrival of brand new content
Cliff be like “IM ABOUT TO TEACH YOU A LESSON OLD MAN!”
