      I first started watching your channel with your videos about painting wood grain on metal panels with a spray paint and a brush. I was hooked just from there on. The sputniks builds were probably my favorite builds, but I really liked the cactus sign too...there's too much to pick absolute favorite...

    You probably won't read this, but craftsmanship aside, your editing skills are super awesome!
    You turning off the lights as the sign is put up infront of the gate only to show us the lit up sign in a very calming environment outside.
    Super lovely! ❤

    I love these videos! My dad was an old-school signmaker who started out in the mid-50s. I remember when I was a kid in the 60s & 70s watching him make signs very similar to these, with neon tubes and chaser lights. (with the old motorized chaser switch units) Even though he hated computers with a passion, he would have loved that you are keeping the old Googie and Dingbat style alive!

    When you do these types of projects, I am reminded so much of the time I worked in a shop that did scenery & electronics for television game shows in L.A./Hollywood. We used those same twist-connect light sockets by the _hundreds_ on some sets. Any time you see "chasing" incandescent light bulbs on an old game show, it was most likely made using those same sockets. Wago connectors didn't exist back then, so most connections were made using cinch terminal blocks. Your neon mounting & wiring looks _exactly_ like how we used to do it. Your top-notch work gets in the feels, Wesley!

    3:05 I don't know if most viewers realize how freaking smart this step is. Use the portion of robo-cut edge as a guide for the bearing on a straight cutting bit to clean off the "nubs" (I don't know what you call those pieces). Big brain thinking!

      I tried them on a lighting project recently. They really are slick, and the current rating is quite impressive, but they sure don't feel very solid. I haven't set up a test to run 30A through them for an extended period of time, but I dont trust the plastic latches to hold up. We used to have spring loaded 'poke-in' receptacles which loosened up over time and caused arcing and sparking inside of the wall. They almost burned my uncle's house down, and hopefully explains some of the North American apprehension. I prefer sturdy screws, crimps, and wire nuts, they've been proven not to come loose for generations.

    • @WesleyTreat
      @WesleyTreat  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. The GTO wire that connects the sections of neon can only be run a particular way and must be kept as short as possible. There's nowhere to hide them. Look at any neon beer sign and you'll see the same connections. It's just how neon works.
