I'm a 77 year old white woman and this music moves me. This is my kind of music Motown. I find myself slow dancing in my living room with just me. Oh this music is good for the soul. Thank God for the artists that made this kinda music
This is Philly Soul, but we got you. Keep jamming it!
A Stax museum documentary just came out yesterday on Max you should check it out. It covers some amazing artists.
I'm right there with you. I grew up in the '60s & '70s on soul & RnB music. This song is especially great with the wonderful Teddy Prendergast singing lead vocals. Wonderful.

Miss songs like this where real artistry was put in them.Lyrics and song styled to perfection.
They don't make music like this anymore
My mom just passed last November and my Dad passed when I was sixteen... I swore off Motown and similar musicians, except Otis Redding cuz he's my soulmate musically... anyway, I just had a fight with my partner and I found myself typing out "if you don't know me by now, you will never ever know me" been together 8 years. And I listened to this again, tho I know it so well and it just made me think of my parents too. I'm 38 with almost a year of sobriety and my parents died from their addictions and left me with nothing. No guidance, no support... I have children I fight for every day. They never fought for me the way I do for my kids... My point here tho is that my parents had me grow up on oldies and Motown, especially my Father. I understood them through songs like this more than I ever understood them otherwise. I hope this song reaches through time for other people as well.
What a beautiful comment ❤️thank you for being so open, you reached my heart deeply🙏
I identify may you continue to receive all the blessings that life has to offer. Paul H a friend of Bills !!!
June 2024 I’m 67 and still sing my heart out to this ❤❤❤❤

I am white, live in Sweden, 68 now, but remember how really enjoyed this song - and other soul music - and still do!! 💯🎶🎵
I'm 45 years old playing this for my 15 year old son. He's such a musician and lover of old school music so I let him listen to what I grew up listening to with my dad and mom.💞💞💞
👍👍👍👍👍
Good job Mom.
I remember the year this song came out. Saw it all happen. Met Teddy in Chicago.
Such a cool mom
@@Grandtrunk THANKS

One of the most powerful and beautiful songs ever written.
Man the music back then was so perfect.
,,
So many of us whites people thought it was an original by mick hucknal simply red
You mos def got that right!!
Guess you have to be at a age to understand beautiful music . Takes me back to my childhood days when life was simple and music was great 😢😢😢
Gen Xcelent here baby. One thing about our generation, we had the greatest love songs, musitions, rap, R&B music this world has ever heard!!!
I am 64 years old and I have something to say about the song in my life as of late. I know who I am I've always known who I was. People have always tried to control me and take my light somebody even tried to kill me for it. Can't take someone else's light you can however have your own. God sees everything he's been watching you know who you are and he knows who you are and I have a pretty good idea of who you are just saying you better leave this child of God Alone you've been playing with me too long it's over that's about ready to rain fire and brimstone on your head don't you get it I pray he has Mercy on all of you
I'm a metalhead but I absolutely love this song.
Respect!!
@Kiki CHOU wym? the o’jays arent metal. Hence the “but”
Music is universal my friend, there's no genre above the other. Forget about labels.
@@JackWalker12993 you're absolutely right
Being a metalhead doesn't somehow make your opinion notable

This was a time for so many GREAT black groups. They all sang the grooves off the records.

Years ago I went to my first house party. Blue lights, soul music, and slow dancing were the order of the day. When this song came on all the elements of life my parents had yet to tell me about came to fruition. It was learning as you go. God I miss those days.

That series had great music!!! Wish I could make a playlist with all the songs from that show..they used all the best classics!!!!!
For those wondering, the other musicians are guitarists Bobby Eli, Norman Harris, and Roland Chambers; bassist Ron Baker; drummer Earl Young; bongo player-conga player Larry Washington; vibraphonist Vincent Montana, Jr.; pianist Leon Huff; organist Lenny Pakula; horn players Sam Reed and His Horns; and string players Don Renaldo and His Horns and Strings.
Thank You
