Why does everyone remember classic rock, but this whole genre of music seems to be forgotten? This is more "classic" than any style of rock. Bring back soul music!!! Who's here in 2024?
New funk and soul are out there. You just didn't grow up with the new names. Cory Wong; Vulfpeck; and others. The vocals are not always there and will NEVER be this smooth. I met someone 40 years my junior and she was a funk fan too. She is turning me on to a variety of new stuff. Some of it is powerful and some of it is ~Meh~. Just like all of the genres. Seek the funk and ye shall find it.
they are children of the same grandfathers/mothers imo. This music deserves much adoration but most are too busy listening to even say it. This music is wonderful to me and so is rock simply cos they are unwitheld emotions. They both handle it so differently but thats why I love both so much.
Classic rock is white while Motown is black. Remember, these were the sixties when the southern states still had systemic segregation because of a deep hatred towards everybody who's non-white. Nowadays racism seems to be on the increase again with the blessing of a certain ex-president.
When I was a kid, my mom loved this song and listen to it all the time. Now 59, I understand why she loved it so, it was her life. The family never knew. RIP mom!
Loss is painful but our memories don’t have to be, the good thing about music conjures memories from all of our senses. You will access the deepest memories quickly his voice and touch and scent so quickly just hit play. ❤
First heard this song in 1981 as a 12 year old going on a school trip. The bus driver was taken to another world as he belted out the song. 🗣🗣I fell in love with the song ever since. 🎵🎷 Meeeeee and Mrs, Mrs. Jones🎷🎵 It's so pure, beautiful and relatable. Evoke the same emotion all the time. Timeless. RIP Billy Paul. 💖❤❤
I also work in the medical field as a CNA at an assisted living center and yes our elders love their oldies and it's a wonderful thing to watch music fill the soul
So very true the stuff they call music now has know feeling just curse words and half the time you can't understand what their saying, I like tunes like Barry white,Marvin gay and the rascals and more
Oh my Jesus, where did my youth go? 59 yo and still listening and missing that wonderful time while listening to these classics of gold. I want to go back, dang, if we could only turn time back at least for a bit, just a bit.
Damn Damn Damn this is real music!!!! Listen too all the instruments and the lyrics, thank you Daddy for introducing us kids to classics like this. I still get goosebumps at 53 as I remember my dad singing this song to my mom and watching them role play as If she was Mrs Jones☺️
I danced to this song with my friend Johnny Jones in Bay City Michigan at school we were from Dawson School we went to school together since kindergarten I thought I was Mrs Jones when I was dancing with him
Just lost my dad Saturday night this was my favorite song when I was little and my dad played it for me. Dad I love you and miss you so much 💗 💛 💓 ❤️. There's a big void in my heart 😢😢
I got to play trombone with Billie's band in Camden, my hometown (1981). It was one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life; to hear his range performing ME AND MRS JONES!
@ALTON CLARK JR. Man, don't take this wrong, but I wish I could take that experience you had and make it my own!! Awesome...that's a beautiful gem to have in the vault, man.
What can be said about this song? Simply put, it's one of the greatest songs of all time. It cannot be improved upon because it's perfect in every, single, way. In one word: "Classic." I think I'm gonna play it again. Yep, again. 👴👍
Every time I hear this song, I think of my dad. He loved it so much, and it always takes me back to the memories of him humming along to the melody. Though he's no longer here, his love for music and the way it touched his soul still lives on in me. This song will forever remind me of him and the special bond we shared. Rest in peace, Dad. You'll always be in my heart.
This man’s voice was so smooth and soulful to hear. This was such a beautiful ballad. The arrangement, the strings, laid back sax, the background vocals and of course Billy’s soulful vocals make this a milestone in soul music.
An anthem of my time. I was 16 when this dropped. Instant classic. Those strings and horns. Baker, Harris and Young holding down the rhythm. Bobby Martin arranged most of the early Gamble and Huff productions but Thom Bell was my favourite. Soon after the orchestra got a name and first album: MFSB. Time passes to quickly. Bell and Martin are now gone and my heart bleeds. But we have the music, the gift that keeps giving. Love to all.
I was eleven when I first heard it. Before I went to bed one night I had been tinkering with a digital alarm clock, not realizing I had turned the alarm on. It woke me up about two thirty in the morning with this song playing. Have never forgotten it.
I think some people miss the true meaning of this song. It's not about just having an affair..it's about the vunerability in all of us . Each and every one of us could at some time on our lives have fallen from grace. The tragedy of those events is beautifully displayed here. A love hopeful yet hopelessly on a path that will no doubt end in emotional devistation...the beauty of being a weak human...not often someone can put those feelings in a song and make us feel it.
This song has been my soudtrack in an affair that last four years with a married woman ten years older than me. It went just as you described. You don t know what love is untill you live a love that high. It has been my last story. It was 2002.
Soooo many young people with the freedom to express themselves created more magic than ever before. . . . or probably ever will again . Those who were there and understand when , where and how will fade away . You can cover the music , adapt it to the times , but creating it is another thing entirely . Good luck to the future generations , I wish for you what I've had .
listening to this as i drove in the rain to work in 1977...that sax! Such a melody, still listening after all these years....anyone else in 2021?..And now in 2024?😎❤️❤️❤️
My wife of 23years unfortunately had the last name of Jones from her 1st marriage which was a TOTAL DISASTER ! Billy Paul describes BEFORE we were married how we used to MOVE. It's 1 of our WEDDING SONGS to the WORD.

# 1 on Billboard's "Hot 100" chart for 3 weeks at Christmas, 1972. One of my Top 10 songs of all time (1940-2024)!!!!!
This is the most beautiful song about an affair ever. I mean how many people have covered this. Incredible. His voice is butter!!!
Only thing that hurts, if you're Mr Jones. Or Mr Smith or whatever, really bitter sweet 1972---
Yes it is
Leila baby couldn't have said it better.
@@jakedavis9152 Thank You. Did you just call me baby?! Am blushing☺☺
I did Leila baby meant no disrespect.
I am 73 and I remember when this song came out. it was so beautiful and sad at the same time. it produces a longing in your heart.
Because the industry capitalised on promoting the violence in the black community through hip hop
Classic rock is white while Motown is black.
Remember, these were the sixties when the southern states still had systemic segregation because of a deep hatred towards everybody who's non-white.
Nowadays racism seems to be on the increase again with the blessing of a certain ex-president.
Music out today is very forgettable, songs like this are timeless and UNFORGETTABLE
LISTENING TO THIS SONG IN HAWAII 2024..NEVER GETS OLD. IT'S HAPPENING ALL THE TIME!!😂😂😂😂 LOVE IT!!! LOVE ❤️ 😍 💖 IT!!
ALOHA...SISTA DOREENIE

Jones🎷🎵
It's so pure, beautiful and relatable. Evoke the same emotion all the time. Timeless.
RIP Billy Paul. 💖❤❤
One of my favourite records, fantastic voice Billy 👏

I'm 31 and this song will forever be a part of the greatest hits it never gets old👍
I’m also 31 and I’ve been hearing this classic song since i was a kid i love it. 💯
Those opening instrumentals are 🔥🔥🔥
They don’t sing like this anymore 🎶
Not even close to this greatness...
So very true the stuff they call music now has know feeling just curse words and half the time you can't understand what their saying, I like tunes like Barry white,Marvin gay and the rascals and more
Nope, many of the greats are resting with the Lord. R.I.H.
No one will ever sing great like this again, unfortunately.
@@sundancekidd1387
I agree
Oh my Jesus, where did my youth go? 59 yo and still listening and missing that wonderful time while listening to these classics of gold. I want to go back, dang, if we could only turn time back at least for a bit, just a bit.
Oh how right you are!
Would you be able to recommend anymore fine 70s soul classics?
i do love you by billy stewart
Same age same feeling every day

I’m 20 and have been listening to music like this since I was 10 thanks to my mom 🫶🏾
Your mum has a great taste in music. 🎶🎵

I was 18 and in basic training when I heard this first.

I'm 22years old writing to this today need to bring more music like this back!
They don't make songs like they used to -- it's true.
@@lisaroberts679 Songs that tell a story and not just racket.
I danced to this song with my friend Johnny Jones in Bay City Michigan at school we were from Dawson School we went to school together since kindergarten I thought I was Mrs Jones when I was dancing with him
this is only the tip of the ice berg
this is impossible today :(
Just lost my dad Saturday night this was my favorite song when I was little and my dad played it for me. Dad I love you and miss you so much 💗 💛 💓 ❤️. There's a big void in my heart 😢😢
So sorry for your loss.... losing people you love is difficult and heart wrenching.
rip to your Dad
I got to play trombone with Billie's band in Camden, my hometown (1981). It was one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life; to hear his range performing ME AND MRS JONES!
ALTON CLARK JR. WOW!!
Somerset here! Cool
@ALTON CLARK JR. Man, don't take this wrong, but I wish I could take that experience you had and make it my own!! Awesome...that's a beautiful gem to have in the vault, man.
We got a thing going on, we both know that its wrong but its much to strong “””””
Awesome!...In 81I was a sophomore at Camden HS. The Castle on the hill!
What can be said about this song?
Simply put, it's one of the greatest songs of all time. It cannot be improved upon because it's perfect in every, single, way. In one word: "Classic."
I think I'm gonna play it again. Yep, again. 👴👍
Billy Paul delivers this song so well; vocals, lyrics, tempo. From first I heard it in 70’s ‘till now; just blows me away. JR
Yes, just divine!
Muito bom
Every time I hear this song, I think of my dad. He loved it so much, and it always takes me back to the memories of him humming along to the melody. Though he's no longer here, his love for music and the way it touched his soul still lives on in me. This song will forever remind me of him and the special bond we shared. Rest in peace, Dad. You'll always be in my heart.
One of the Greatest Songs ever, it brings back memories of when life was simple & music was MUSIC !!!!!
Good old days!!!
Got that right!
Absolutely! One of my all time favorites.
Good old days 💕😊
Wish we could have them back

So nice & well said...., you're very right...!!👋✌
This man’s voice was so smooth and soulful to hear. This was such a beautiful ballad. The arrangement, the strings, laid back sax, the background vocals and of course Billy’s soulful vocals make this a milestone in soul music.
The only rival is Lou Rawls. First heard this song in 1987. Still love it today, thirty-six years on
This will never get old😊
In loving memory of Legendary Me & Mrs. Jones Singer Billy Paul (1934-2016). He was 81. It was 4 years since Billy Paul passed away.
Fly high Billy
He was awesome RIP Billy Paul.
What feeling, what a unique voice, what orchestra, sublime!!
I'm agree
This cut is 50 years old, that right 50!! When you've been listening to a cut for that amount of time ,and it can still get you.....Damn.
That's Kenny Gamble, Leon Huff & the Sound of Philadelphia baby! ❤❤❤
I was a teenager, but my mom r.i.p 😢 loved hearing these songs (oldes) yessss 😊❤❤❤
You hit it right on the head my man..
True the other parter will be devastated . But you cant stop . And you love them . But its that attraction .with the other .
I have been EXACTLY there!!!
At 13 I had know idea about what the words were about! The deliverance of his voice and the music just spoke to my soul😇
My childhood was blessed with incredible music!
Indeed! I count myself as tremendously lucky to have grown up in the early 60s to mid 70s. The music was pure magic.
listening to this as i drove in the rain to work in 1977...that sax! Such a melody, still listening after all these years....anyone else in 2021?..And now in 2024?😎❤️❤️❤️
me.
And Me too! :-) I So love this song!
My wife of 23years unfortunately had the last name of Jones from her 1st marriage which was a TOTAL DISASTER ! Billy Paul describes BEFORE we were married how we used to MOVE. It's 1 of our WEDDING SONGS to the WORD.

Me n Mrs. Jones was the bomb when I was about 16, I'm 63 now. Just chilling listening to Billy Paul. Nobody can sing it like he did. Dramatics can't touch that... M.M.
This song was like nectar over the airwaves. Everyone that heard it had to stop and contemplate the predicament of these two mythological lovers. Spellbinding.
They aren’t mythological this actually happened hon
