The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows, is one of the world's premier aerobatic display teams. The Red Arrows are currently the only unit in the Royal Air Force to fly the Hawk T1.
    Typhoon Display - 29 Squadron
We normally expect to hear callsign ANARCHY1 when it comes to the RAF Typhoon display pilot, however, this year, the display pilot's callsign is "TURBO"! Well, if there was a callsign available that had your nickname, you’d surely take it. The callsign is actually from RAF LOSSIEMOUTH’S 6 Squadron and Turbo has borrowed it from them for the year which means 6 Squadron are without this callsign.
Flight Lieutenant David "Turbo" Turnbull is this year's RAF Typhoon Display pilot and he has already produced a particular sequence that will wow the crowds. The slow aileron roll into the max alpha is a signature manoeuvre from Turbo! He is becoming one of the best Typhoon display pilots of all time.
As it is the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy this year, the theme to the Typhoon’s livery was given this honour. The new livery is painted in the Hawker Typhoon scheme with 257 Squadron markings which includes the squadron markings which was FM, Camo and D-Day (or invasion) Stripes.
Special thank you to our good friend Colin Beamer for this super shot of Moggy

Too bad the low cloud meant the Red Arrows could only do their 'flat' routine. Standard summer weather. ☁️☁️☁️Sigh. At least they came prepared.
Maybe they could add some really low level stuff with a helicopter, hovering right in front of the crowd. I'd pay good money to see someone wing-walking on a Chinook. Well, maybe not walking. More like tap dancing. Briefly. 🥩👀
I've said this on other videos: I admire the Red Arrows for flying fast-jet trainers and not front-line combat machines. The emphasis is on the flying and the display, and is not some sabre-rattling, chip-on-the-shoulder bit of propaganda to show Johnny-Foreigner how tough or well-equipped anyone is.
Using full-on combat jets as your country's display team is a good example of trying too hard. I'm not talking about solo demonstrations to sell military hardware at commercial airshows; I mean team displays at international public events.
If you're confident in your capabilities, fly anything. Fly kites. Fly old biplanes. Fly radio-controlled pigeons. All you're trying to do is entertain the crowds and inspire potential pilots. If you're worried that someone, somewhere, might not be taking you seriously enough, fly great big shouty combat jets. Grrrr. We are SO angry.🙄
But that's like waving a loaded gun in someone's face and demanding love and respect. Yuk.
However excellent the flying skills on display (and they ARE excellent, no question of that), the overall effect of using combat jets is the same as having a military parade through your capital city: all the tanks and missiles and marching troops and waving flags are there to keep the population in line and put a shine on some dodgy President's or other Glorious Leader's ego. It's a display of inadequacy, not confidence.
I enjoy watching ALL the world's aircraft display teams, wherever they come from. I'm into flying, not overt patriotism or nationalism. Once you're past the age of about 10 you're allowed to like more than one thing at the same time, and you're allowed to like different things equally. Food, drink, music, films, air display teams, whatever. No one has to be 'best'.
It's not a competition. You don't have to rank anything or award any medals. Just enjoy.
All the pilots in these teams are the best in the business - they have to be - but the teams I admire most are those who are all about the display and are not trying to ram a political message down my throat.
