    Sir, this explains a lot about how Portuguese pronounce d & t . I was listening to a person from Brazil pronouncing bucket and it sounds like buckage which fits in with your very helpful explanation. Thank you

    So far I have seen two videos of this author, this video and one explaining the 'r' sound, I think these two video is the best I have ever seen. It does clarify some problems that other teachers cannot really make me understand, some might pronounce 't' pretty much the same as 'd', but watching this video actually helps me to identify the two different sounds. This video helps a lot.HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!

    I was wondering why a Brazilian friend of mine has so much problem with the pronunciation of words such as good or bad and night. And when I started to learn Portuguese I also found myself confused by these consonants. Your video cleared that up quite nicely thank you.

    I was so confused about the two sound "te" and "de" (and I used to wrongly pronounce the "ge" and "de" sound in the same way~ ) I've watched tons of videos that claim to help me out, but none of them works. Thanks to this video, it really helps a lot!!!!!!

    Love this pronunciation tutorial. I was watching a movie and the characters said something like 'entenjeer' which meant understand. It didn't cross my mind it was spelt as 'entender'
    Also, would you be so kind to make a video on the accent marks in Portuguese?

    • @aboutbrazil

      Sure, Aqim. I think about making a video about it.

    Hi Mr. Filgueira I have a question about (TE) in the end of a word. How can we pronounce (TE) in the beginning or in the middle of a word?

    • @milano_55
      @milano_55 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would ask the same question thanks bro ..

    Hi Ricardo! I had a question about the "d" in demais and rodear (rodeado) - the d's here can be pronounced as a "dz" sound - why is this the case? the "de" is not at the end of the sentence. Was a little confused about this exception!

    • @aboutbrazil
      @aboutbrazil  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oi! In fact, this is not an exception. Many Ds in the beginning of sylables can have the same sound of dg (as judge). It happens very often: dia, despertar, devagar, dezessete, dezoito, desligar etc. Ah! And in the middle of words as well: rodear, rodeado. That's why I'll make a video about the subject soon. 👍

      Obrigado! That would be a very very great and helpful video.

  • @SnowMao
    @SnowMao 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I noticed the word Devagar has a Ji sound at the beginning of the word, even though the Ji sound from DE comes at the end of a word. Is this an exception?

    • @aboutbrazil
      @aboutbrazil  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi, Icy, you're right. Sometimes we pronounce "DE" at the beginning as "JI".
      So, you can hear/pronounce desligar (de / ji), devagar (de / ji), dezessete (de / ji), dezoito (de / ji), dezenove (de / ji), demais (de / ji), destino (de / ji) and many others. Both ways are correct, it's just a variation.
      Some exceptions: desde (de), delegacia (de), desejo (de), defesa (de)...

    • @SnowMao
      @SnowMao 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah okay, thank you so much for the clarification. :)

  • @samuelereira2627
    @samuelereira2627 ปีที่แล้ว

    What about devagar? Isn't this pronounced "jevagar" even though the de- isn't at the end of the word

    • @aboutbrazil
      @aboutbrazil  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question! In fact, many words beginning with D can also be pronounce as the letter J in English. Examples: desesseis, dezessete, dezoito, dezenove. They are different accents, different ways of pronounceing the same word.

  • @dano1570
    @dano1570 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    With the "des" and "tes", what if the words end with them AND with and "s". Like "saudades". Is it like "saudajes" without making the e sound as in "eat"?

    • @aboutbrazil
      @aboutbrazil  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, Orlando. If they are in the end of a word, we pronunce *"DES"* (saudaDES) like *J* like in Jet + EAs like in EAt and *"TES"* (parTES) like *CH* in CHair + EAs like in EAt.
      But don't pronounce the "EA" too long.
