@@iiiforgor you don't miss anything. Maybe some legendary ships worth it but on consoles you have only access to WoWS:Legends which is different than the base game. And because of this, the cross-play option is a lie because only Legends have cross-play option and not the base game. The only reason for me to ever play WoWS on PC is the subs but I don't have a PC and War thunder will surely get subs soon enough and I am willing to bet that it'll be way better
4:59 As someone who regularly plays Doom mods, this part hurts because there are far too many mod authors for that game who evidently _don't_ receive criticism for making maps that are only designed to be enjoyed by people who had a direct hand in making it. Every time I find a map where I have to hit a switch and am then given zero indication as to what it actually did, it's guaranteed this will be a problem in every mod released by that author, even when they've been making maps for twenty years, because apparently nobody ever steps up and just tells them that this is a problem.
I'd like to imagine another factor for enemy spam back then was that information/education about level design just wasn't as accessible as it is today, with downloads speeds being much slower and a lot of helpful info being locked behind paywalls or a school course. Thankfully nowadays we not only have faster speeds and resources for learning level design, we have discords and communities where you can actually meet experienced level designers who have enough free time in their day to discuss or playtest your map.
9:41 It is interesting to point out that this is something that happens in one of half life 2's levels, I believe specifically the one before the start of our benefactors, where if a scanner takes a picture of you, the striders will then know where you are
I think I played this mod like 3 times, and the last time I did, I had a terrible cold, perhaps covid, couldn't sleep, and got really drunk. 11/10, I knew right then and there it was the true and intended way to play.
Crazy to think that this was the First EVER mod i tried for Half Life 2 after it's launch. Absolutely amazing mod, partially got me into modding in general, more on the gameplay side than the mapping side, which is Ironic considering Mistake of Pythagoras is almost entirely just Mapping, with as said. "Enemy Spam"
I played this mod years ago. As much as I enjoyed it back then, I'm not playing it again just to decode some secret code, so all I'm going to say is that if you are planning on datamining the mod's data files to find the URL then a text editor or hex editor are useless for the task.
Great video as always king, I really appreciate how fair and generous you are to the creators of these mods. Anyone can complain about enemy spam, but it takes genuine analytical skills to talk about WHY the enemy spam is happening.
13:00 The boss fight isn't broken: you were supposed to stare at the left wall, where your new awesome powers tear out the part of it and launch the debris at Greg, defeating the menace. No need to open the console and move to the next map.
That didn't work. I noticed the walls moving somewhat, but because the powers were broken fundamentally I just spent 30 minutes looking at the walls, seeing them shake a bit, and then eventually just skipped the map lol. Perhaps I did something wrong though, taht being said, I think most people will get stuck at that part
@@1lucia Hmm, there was the closest to you bit that was stuck out of the left wall (seen in your footage), you needed to stare at it for some time, as it got rumbled and torn out. I played the mod fairly recently, the psychokinetic powers were indeed janky, but not utterly broken. The issue was having to stare at very specific parts of the level that might not be obvious (like Deadwater Gaming struggling to break transparent Combine's shield in their playthrough, because you needed to look at its frame) (you could also watch how they fought the final boss there). The other issue might be that you ran towards the shield and enemies behind it first, and only later towards anti-Greg to get the powers from it, thus breaking the script. It's not really your fault, both Deadwater Gaming and me managed to break scripting throughout the game too. The game relies on it way too much, forcing you to take a very rigid path, and confusing nature of levels and their puzzles doesn't help.
If I remember correctly, I used to play Mistake of Pythagoras in another HL2 Mod called "Obsidian Conflict", me and other players were in chaos doing the maps with constant confusion on what's happening
I like how you just casually were like ‘there’s an ARG that I don’t know if anyone knew existed or ever solved, so I did.’ Not sure how involved it is since I just started watching, but GG’s
It would be funny if Koumei Satou made a Half-Life: Alyx mod with all the silly shit with the source 2 graphics and atmosphere. Maybe it's just me and my insanity.
That stomping cube reminds me of a boss in Remnant 2. A maze filled with 4 of them with weak spot eyes on some of their sides and you have to position yourself in a way where you avoid becoming a pancake but can still injure them.
I'm glad people are still talking about one of my favorite mods for any game ever. Don't forget Peaces Like Us, though! In a some ways, Peaces Like Us is to Half-Life as Mistake of Pythagoras is to Half-Life 2.
It's really sad that the telekinesis powers are broken, that was the highlight of my playthrough back in what, like '06 or something? I remember really liking this mod, even using it as inspiration for a surreal horror mod I worked on for a while but never finished, I loved the puzzles and the overall vibe of the levels, but really hated the gameplay, _except_ for the telekinesis parts, that was fun as hell. It would be really cool to see someone go back and fix up this mod, maybe after whatever Valve has planned for HL2's 20th anniversary is over and done because that might very well just break it again. I still have really fond memories of it and it'd be a shame for it to not be properly preserved.
I played the OG version recently and the telekinesis seemed barely functional. Firstly, the keys were not bound and I for the life of me couldn't find what commands I needed to bind. But I did have some telekinesis which seemed to halfway work on autopilot. Getting near objects would make them float and I think I could sorta direct them by moving the mouse, but once I lost control of an object I couldn't seem to control it again, only move on to a different one. Also, clicking on combines would kill them so that was nice (I think clicks were needed, I don't think that happened on autopilot). And the boss fight did work, it just consisted of (aside from shooting/clicking on manhacks) looking at combine walls to make them emit sparks, until the left one started breaking off and eventually floated up and dealt the killing blow to the boss. So, is this how it was supposed to work? If you still remember that is.
This mod is great. Maybe I got lucky somehow but the telekinesis worked fine for me, if a bit jank. Weirdly enough it reminded me a lot of the book a Wrinkle in Time. Theres a similar vibe of world-hopping and a kind of fantasy interpretation of sci fi ideas.
It would be really cool if there was a version of this mod that packaged the arg level into the game as something you can access for solving the in-game puzzle, rather than directing somewhere that will inevitably fall victim to link decay in at some point in the future.
For a mod that came out a year after HL2 the aesthetics are insanely good. Numberworld and the Ledoux are especially well done, they'd still be really impressive if they came out today. It's kind of bizarre seeing the incredible level design contrasted against the crude enemy spam they used for all the combat encounters.
I think I've seen enemy spam done once right obviously barring any Dynasty Warriors esque games and that would be Skyward Sword, iirc it was the lead up to the final fight there's a ton of trash mobs that have had their health essentially just set to 1 and you just rofl stomp through em to the bottom of a spiral.
I was thinking of a pretty wicked Half Life 3 trailer that would drive people wild. Trailer should be a black screen with a vert faint Lambda core/mesa symbol then gmans voice comes in and says His HL1 line "Time to choose." Dude though its so vaugue and short i think it'd get peeps hyped!!!
Should take a look at the Residual Saga its similarly weird, esoteric and poorly documented. Seriously the rabbit hole behind Residual Point and Residual Life is insane.

I legit wonder if the devs at gunfire games was inspired by this game for remnant 2 because there is a boss in the game that is very similar to the cube maze puzzle. Like i can accept it just being a coincidence but i also do wonder now
