The dynamic in-game between rhys darby and ozioma akagha is so good, it makes me wonder if they ever met or recorded lines at the same studio. There’s also the massive misconception that VR now is 500 dollars minimum when there are other cheaper options, you can even just buy a used index for less than 300 from eBay since it’s a 5 year old headset
tbh if you're determined enough you can get it working on a WMR and honestly your computer doesn't even need to be that powerful. i use a samsung odyssey+ with a lenovo thinkstation S30 and it works fine. might be more or less expensive than what meta's putting out depending on the seller but you do have options.
if you can't afford a game, very few dev's see it as stealing to play something you never could. valve knows people torrent and pirate their games but like any good company they've simply turned a blind eye and don't mention it, but there's a reason space war has 400k players randomly.
I built a PC and bought the Valve Index, just to play this game. I didn't really have the room to spend, but I did. And I'm so incredibly glad I did. VR really brings me to tears at times.
I am surprised you didn't mention how you can also tune into a song on the radio, that being the trumpet music that accompanies G-man on the TV in HL2. Its a nice little Easter egg.
I think the adviser in the vault is just environmental story basically saying “yes g-man is stronger than this, and no g-man isn’t an adviser himself or even work for them” the second half of that being an old theory people had about g-man
I always thought that g-man intentionally let himself be captured by the combine to lure alyx to him, and he probably killed the advisor that was monitoring him. I'm still open to the possibility that gman is a fully-hatched Shu'ulathoi, not one working for the combine, but part of the secret cabal evading capture from them. Either way, I'm curious where they decide to take the story. In the 20th anniversary documentary for hl2, Marc Laidlaw is back in Valve's offices. Maybe he's working with them on hl3?
The theory was never that he was an advisor, rather their species that evolved in a different way. BreenGrub revealed that the Advisors are still a Larval stage, rarely they choose to grow, and can reshape their bodies however they see fit. One of those forms could be a human.
I have Meta Quest 3 and no VR game is close to immerssion level of Half-Life Alyx. I'm not talking about graphics, but interactions, physics, voicelines, scavenging, gravity gloves, etc... I've spent almost half an hour on the starting balcony, interacting with objects or drawing on the window using markers. Made me feel like three year old again. Then you take gravity gloves and you're back at the start messing around with the world. The thing I like to do the most is break bottles and push doors with a weapon. We need Valve to push boundries again, either more VR games or HL3.
You know what's crazy? I remember owning that exact same model of Garfield clock shown at 1:52 but my parents threw it away after we moved to a different location.

Your theory on why they recast Alyx's voice was exactly what I have been thinking. My theory is that HL:A is an entirely different timeline that runs parallel to HL2, and at some point its going to get crossed with the main HL2 timeline, likely due to the Borealis causing some fuckery with space time. I'm sure there will be a twist in HL3, where we meet back up with Alyx near the Borealis, and slowly realize that her past experiences do not align with ours, only for it to be reveled that we are actually with HL:A's Alyx, who was pulled to our timeline, or that we are in hers. At the very least, I 100% think that we will have two Alyx's in one place at the same time. I'm sure that will cause some story drama with HL2 Alyx realizing there is a place where her dad is still alive. Maybe its revealed that she turned down G-man's offer in our timeline?
The metrocop drawing at 15:35 I believe is actually an easter egg to some original artwork for the civil protection/metrocop design back in 2004, if you look up the image where he holds the stunstick and glowing blue eyes you'll see that they're pretty much the same given some childish drawn liberties with it.

Fun fact about the recasting, Tyler Mcvicker has a leaked early build of HLA that has Merle voicing Alyx all they way through the game. She even asks gman "Who are you?... WHAT are you?..." which leads to the gman's infamous line in response.
You brought up your idea of them recasting Alyx so they can use both voice actresses as separate "characters" in the future, the younger one and the older one. Did you perhaps get that idea from me and my video about it? It's obviously not a well made video, but I like to think I was also one of the first to talk about it, and I never see other videos or posts anywhere discussing such things. As far as I know, city 17 is generally based on Sofia, even since hl2, not only in Half-life: Alyx. That is probably thanks to Viktor Antonov. Also, fun fact, a part of the signs that are in cyrillic in HLA are in bulgarian (for example the sign that warns about electricity "НЕ ПИПАЙ! Опасно за живота!" or "DON'T TOUCH! Dangerous for health/life; depends on the context of the translation, generally it's the same"), but not all of them.
Something I noticed but what I've never seen anyone mentioned are the secret voicelines in the vault. I think you're able to hear bits from Episode 2 and 'cut' voicelines like Eli saying "open your eyes honey" distorted and spliced.
I have a Quest 2 but I just don't like VR, the headset is uncomfortable and hot and and VR makes me motion sick. I feel like most people feel the same way. Great video as always!
A ton of people definitely get motion sickness. Sometimes it takes getting used to it though, I couldn’t do long sessions in the beginning, by now I can play for hours on end. This isn’t the case for everyone though obviously :P
This game is probably my favourite out of all the series and this just made me realise how much cooler it actually is, i also wonder if we're gonna get anything on the 5th anniversary in march
I kinda like the idea of the Alyx stepping into the test chamber and stopping it all. It would be an ending at least. And it would show that the only way humanity can beat the combine is by never engaging with them at all.
28:45 i also suspect something like this may be the plan, we know they are still working on VR while also working on a desktop experience, so I wonder if we are gonna have two games on different timelines release; one game following episode two's ending and one following Alyx, maybe using the same environments.
Thank you for making this video, I know very very little about the whole game series I recently played half life 2 and a tiny bit of half life 1 (gonna play black mesa instead because it’s more similar to hl2) I also watched a playthrough of half life alyx (a very long time ago) but I am planning on getting a pc and connecting my Quest to it so I can play the game
I remember when I first played HLA in 2023, there was a health station near the laundromat in the Northern Star that was broken. You could put a vial in it, but when you open it, there is no handprint of needles or whatever. It was just the frame.
Personally, I will have to use the HL:A-NoVR mod if I want to play. I may also need some reduced-fidelity resources to make it run on hardware that was mid in 2015. That all might make it sound pointless, but the new physics features would be pretty cool to play with, I think. It'd be super cool to port Black Mesa, HL2, and its episodes to Source 2, though I suspect Valve will do that for maybe the official games in the way they did HL: Source. (So, not ideal, but we can always finish the work ourselves.)
I still prefer the interpretation the Metrocop in child's drawing is actually holding a spatula because the kid didn't get what a stunstick is so just drew a household item instead.
I haven't heard too much of HL: Alyx beta's stuff. But I am curious to what that scene with G-Man grasping his head while sitting at the table was about... It would have been trippy and jarring to walk in on him and see him in any remotely vulnerable position, let alone showing any strong emotions. I wonder what it originally implied there.
You can’t rely on pitching to carry an entire role. By the time the second episode was released, Merle Dandridge was already 31, which imho already made her voice sound a bit too mature for this character. Add to that the 12-year gap between the second episode and "Alyx," and pitching becomes an even less viable solution.
I disagree, frankly I don’t even think they would‘ve needed to pitch it. Alyx never sounded like most her age, she always had a deeper and strained voice, as people sometimes just do. Even if one might think she sounds older now, definitely not old enough for that to be a reason for a last-minute recast. There are a bunch of Merle Dandrige voice lines left in the files that you can find online, they sound perfect!
At the end of Half-Life: Alyx the G-man is revealed be capable of time travel and using this power to bribe people to do his bidding. At first I found this very jarring but than it hid me and i likely understood on what the character of the G-Man and is “employers” are baste on. Years agoI read an classic soviet speculative fiction book ( the title of with I can not recall for the live of me) in with a short red haired “man” caring a briefcase is persuading scientist to stop or change their research. As a bribe the briefcase can open to contain the scientists hearts desire, an expel of one of the bribes was a stamp or coin collection. It is later speculated in the novel that is “man” is a manifestation of “the cognitive universe” ( A theory that the universe operates like a self-simulating, self-processing system.) that is changing the course of human history to prevent the inversion of time travel. In Half-Life chase the motives of the G-man are less clear, perhaps he is preventing the use of portal technology for interdenominational colonization. As for his employers, their power does not seem to be as absolute like the “the cognitive universe”, as the G-man can be imprisoned.
I like this theory, and he could still be "the cognitive universe", given that a likely theory is that the G-Man let himself get captured on purpose so that Alyx could free him so that she gets granted a favor. I personally subscribe to this theory as well, believing that after Episode 2 happened he went back in time and changed the event because it didn't fit into his plans.
I had a wild theory, g-man didn't get his powers to travel time until alyx was brought back from the great beyond via vortessence manipulation and therefore the half life alyx version of him is a younger, stronger, g-man that wasn't YET responsible for the black mesa incident. he didn't have the briefcase. I'm assuming he eventually gets the briefcase at some point in the future. we don't know who his clients are, so, perhaps they were eli/kliener/barney all along, doing a deal with a devil, which brought them what they asked for, culminating in the events of half life 2, episode 1, 2, and alyx surviving the great beyond. we can also say that alyx will eventually be responsible for using her connection to the vortessence to deal with the combine, since it exists across all of time and space, perhaps events are leading to alyx prime, brought back from the great beyond, teaming up with a green-lightning bolt powered younger alyx to deal with the combine once and for all through their combined use of the vortessence. after all in half life alyx the green energy was syphoned off of the vortegaunts.
Thank you for letting me know the no-VR mod exists. I played through HL:A and loved everything about it except for the damn uncomfortable headset. I felt eye strained and nauseous after more than an hour playing it. If the headset wasn't a freebie, then I wouldn't buy one to play this.

I think the G-Man was only in the vault because he wanted to be captured to get alyx.
Something I noticed but what I've never seen anyone mentioned are the secret voicelines in the vault. I think you're able to hear bits from Episode 2 and 'cut' voicelines like Eli saying "open your eyes honey" distorted and spliced.
Is assume it's from before the rewrite.
@ no it’s in the retail game for sure!
15:25 Another funny thing, this stand says "My favorite animal lmao
14:33 Or, you know, the nuke that Adrian and Gman orchestrated in Opposing Force
A semi-surface level warhead in the New Mexico desert would not have destroyed all of North America.
33:30 hey that's me
(if you want your name to be included at the end of lucia's videos, come join the membership for only 1,17€ !)
I really like the idea of the Combine Killer being Barney! I'd like to see more Otis in a future entry...
As a bulgarian, I can say that living here is like playing Half-Life IRL everyday
Half life Alyx beta was dark and gritty
This game is probably my favourite out of all the series and this just made me realise how much cooler it actually is, i also wonder if we're gonna get anything on the 5th anniversary in march
Didn't expected you to be the number 1 Half Life ALIX fan hahsha
19:25 just looks like a regular blue bottle jellyfish with slight changes
"and some Zoomer scary images to its side so that any of you even care."
I'm in.
Finally, there is no realistic gordon in the thumbnail...
I kinda like the idea of the Alyx stepping into the test chamber and stopping it all. It would be an ending at least. And it would show that the only way humanity can beat the combine is by never engaging with them at all.
16:10 too late, I already played it with this mod
And it was a good experience anyway, just some crashes in the first half of the game
Can't wait for the Hl: decay iceberg!
7:17 - How could valve remove the Cobmine, what a terrible choice smh
28:45 i also suspect something like this may be the plan, we know they are still working on VR while also working on a desktop experience, so I wonder if we are gonna have two games on different timelines release; one game following episode two's ending and one following Alyx, maybe using the same environments.
Lucia, at 13:37, the text translates to Vision lies withing. Look inside
Shoutouts to the Half-Life but the Gnome is Self-Aware series, especially the ending.
I rented a VR headset with a cappable PC for 65 bucks for 2 days, played HLA all day long, finished, enjoyed the sh out of it. thats an option.
the fully modeled... is leaking
HL:A got me into VR. Now I pretty much only use my headset for Beat Saber. Amazing game though, we need more like it.
you should try vertigo 2
I like how the floppy disk say that you PAY and then you get FREE games
Thank you for making this video, I know very very little about the whole game series I recently played half life 2 and a tiny bit of half life 1 (gonna play black mesa instead because it’s more similar to hl2) I also watched a playthrough of half life alyx (a very long time ago) but I am planning on getting a pc and connecting my Quest to it so I can play the game
I remember when I first played HLA in 2023, there was a health station near the laundromat in the Northern Star that was broken. You could put a vial in it, but when you open it, there is no handprint of needles or whatever. It was just the frame.
Sometimes they are connected to an external power source that needs to be turned on first
@@AmBush2048 If that's the case there was no indication of that.
(So, not ideal, but we can always finish the work ourselves.)
think im getting some new pc parts for christmas, so ill be happily returning with gnome chompski to take him to the vault!!
I'm just here to find out what's the Alyx's model used for the thumbnail, thx
I still prefer the interpretation the Metrocop in child's drawing is actually holding a spatula because the kid didn't get what a stunstick is so just drew a household item instead.
I haven't heard too much of HL: Alyx beta's stuff. But I am curious to what that scene with G-Man grasping his head while sitting at the table was about... It would have been trippy and jarring to walk in on him and see him in any remotely vulnerable position, let alone showing any strong emotions. I wonder what it originally implied there.
I have been watching since last year!!
whats the model of alyx used in the thumbnail? It looks reslly similsr to the hl:a one but it seems to look more normal
I like all these half life icebergs. Just waiting for the HL3 one now...
First thing I tried in the contaminated zone was to attach the breathing filter mask. That it worked blew me away. The little things.
light
love how the lucia dorfeldt death sound reminds me of the hl2 civilian death sfx
I got a nice chuckle out of “my dad fell”
slingshot would be so cool, launching objects at enemies like with a gravity gun
I have a bug where I cannot grab a headcrab's heart to earn the achievement. Neither live or dead headcrab's.
Fröhliche Weihnachten 🎄🎁
Regarding the very last one, we all already did that a long long in the Half-Life 1 mod Timeline III😂
Describing to the audience what a floppy disk even is makes me feel old :(
ive thrown a bottle at metrocop in game, trough the gate, no reaction, i doupt they are npcs
Thank you for letting me know the no-VR mod exists. I played through HL:A and loved everything about it except for the damn uncomfortable headset. I felt eye strained and nauseous after more than an hour playing it. If the headset wasn't a freebie, then I wouldn't buy one to play this.
Xen Jellyfish looks exactly like Flocking Floater
„Cobmine“
20:24 the glove model looks like a csgo/cs2 skin “pandoras box sport gloves”
I'm kinda upset there this didn't include a bunch of the unused weapon upgrades.
27:02 Replacement* sry my bro
The Reddit is gonna hear about this one
We did it Reddit

Ist das absicht das die werbung Displate schneller läuft und manchmal von links nach rechts wechselt? Meine Ohren sind verwirrt :D
Sie ist schneller, aber nichts mit links und rechts, liegt vielleicht an deinem headset?
The grenade zombie as You mentioned was prob some sort of zombine
