These videos are very helpful. I’m a first time budgie owner, have a two year old budgie named cobalt, when we first got her, we where scared she wasn’t eating or drinking as we never saw her do so- I stupidly grabbed her to put her closer to her food and drink, I hate my self so much for doing that, I’m still trying to regain her trust.
Genuinely makes me almost cry just thinking about what I did.. I hope she can forgive me over time, I’ve been trying so hard with treats, talking very calmly and quietly to her, trying to teach her to step up.
(I don’t expect anyone to read this, this was more for my self venting)

did you finally get her trust back? I have the same issue I let my cockatiel come outta his cage and then after a couple of hours i tried to grab him so I could put him back into his cage but he bite me and ran away so I tried to leave the cage next to him with its door open and finally he got back into his cage on his own but since then he doesnt respond me at all and whenever i try to get close to him he bites me or goes away

@@nima9872 it’s best to never pick them up unless absolutely necessary. I still haven’t got my budgies trust back, I’m working on it every day though. If you let your bird out, you will have to allow him to go back home on his own, or tempt him on your hand with millet / seed.

i have had my cockatiel for a year now. when i first adopted him, i spent so much effort training him, and he became comfortable with me fairly quickly. he was the perfect bird and we loved eachother so much. since about 3 months ago he has been hating me and my family completely out of the blue. i didn’t change anything at all, and now he screams, bites, and won’t step up or allow me to pet him. if anyone has any other tips, please let me know. thank you so much

I read somewhere that birds when they're in adolescence stage they can become aggressive. So I think that's why Yuk has become so aggressive lately. And since we haven't clipped his wings he flies around freely which is good, but might get him into trouble and I think going after him causes stress and makes him not like me. So I have to wait till he gets back to his cage. But even now he started not wanting to go back in the cage at night. I love him so much. But he can be very moody because I think he's in his teen years in human years cause they have hormonal changes when their not so young anymore. He used to be the most sweetest bird there is. Though I'm not sure but I'm going to see a vet to get his wings clipped and for an overall checkup. I don't know your situation but maybe that could be why. Yuki calls me when I leave the room for a short minute but when I come back he don't really wanna be bothered so I give him space when necessary. And lastly he might just be a little lonely so I'm trying to find a friend for him to be around when I'm not in the room so much. So yeah really worried about him because he's become a little aggressive which might be a byproduct of the hormones. 😔
Hope this helps and don't fret you're doing the best you can I'm sure. 🙂

@@yukicbirdy2487 I do think that’s very common, I’ve been going through a somewhat similar thing with my tiel. Just like teenagers I think, they hit puberty and get moody. With parrots specifically, they can become broody and territorial, which impacts behavior and their relationship to you at times. She’s still very affectionate with me, but there are times where she gets territorial and aggressive in a way she never was in her younger years. Funny how ya fid parents can get a taste of what real parents go through ig lol. “They were such a sweet happy kid and now they hate me, what happened?!”

i am really upset because i didn’t realise the damage i have caused.
i’m not going to sugar coat - just get straight to the point so PLEASE help if you can.
i have a budgie, and i got it because my grandpa went to hospital and no longer has the physical ability to care for it, so i took the bird in about 3 years ago. when i got her, she had never had much human interaction so was very afraid of me. i worked and worked (throughout covid) to gain her trust and it worked, i got her trust. whenever i would enter the room she got excited and i would give her kisses, i would play with her for an hour everyday and she would fly around and play with me. although she never got to the point where she was comfortable enough to land on my hand/finger.
i was very invested in my budgie and spent so much time with her, teaching her.
anyways, when covid “ended” and everything started going back to normal i was bombarded with schoolwork, pressure and didn’t even have much time to myself on a daily basis, i still fed her every morning though.
now she doesn’t have my trust anymore and is afraid of me because i’ve basically neglected her for 6 months and i couldn’t feel more terrible, im willing to do whatever it takes to regain her trust please help.
also, should i get her a budgie friend? do they help?

Start by spending time with her again. Tell her how you missed her, and how you're sorry that you weren't there to spend time with her. Talk with her patiently, soothingly, and start being around her again. She'll remember the fun you used to have together. She'll understand you want to be with her again by the softness of your voice, and how you're speaking to her; and she'll understand you're trying to get her to understand... by doing this over time, and usually not a very long amount of time either, from my experience, she'll begin to trust you, and begin desiring to be with you again, as well. Within a few days of starting to do this, spending time with her, talking with her, sharing your feelings with her, for at least a half hour or so at a time, and preferably more than once a day (the more the better), she'll begin getting used to your presence again, and begin to trust you again. She'll start showing signs that she wants to have fun with you again, and from there you'll be all set. It just takes time and patience, and realizing that birds are social creatures, and once they've made a friend, they remember, and will always want to be friends again.

I really don’t know what I did wrong. I have my cockatiel for over 10 years and we’ve been perfect
This year something happened and it doesn’t trust me anymore. He bites me all the time

keep food and water only in cage, don't make it available outside so he knows his cage is his home and he needs to get inside to eat, you can give him treats outside and inside of the cage, but keep water and his main food inside only, he will want to get inside to eat and drink after playing outside the cage for hours

    Ok. So.
Don’t press your bird’s stomach to get them to step up. That’s a form of force.
Put a treat behind your hand and ask them to step up to get the treat.

And if you can't, let go of the bird and bring it back to the pet store. Someone will buy it again. Let the bird start over and decide what's best for themselves, what's right for them and what they want. Get a new bird for yourself, then learn from your mistake. Because birds want an amount of freedom to decide on things. If the bird is telling you to go away, do go away. Never return again.
