Fun fact. Robert Englund and Mark Hammil used to be roommates and are still close friends to this day. Is anyone else picturing Freddy Krueger and Luke Skywalker hanging out together?!?
Imo, Elm Street is the best idea anyone has EVER had for a horror movie. As a Gen Xer who was a little kid in the 80's, the original Nightmare will haunt me forever!

I can't remember my exact age 8 or 9, when this movie came out, but I can tell you exactly where I was when I first saw the commercial for it. In my bedroom, about 9:30 at night and that scene of the little girls jump roping and singing scared the crap out of me
I was right about the same age. I was also a little kid who was raised on horror and usually pretty desensitized to it. But the original Elm Street scared the hell out of me!

I saw Nightmare on Elm street when it was playing super late night on tv. I was around 6 or 7. it scared me sooo bad, I begged my mom to leave the door open to my room with the hall light on for months. I don't think a movie villain terrified me to come into my dreams as much as Freddy did. Like you said, you could escape the others, but where do you go in your own dreams?
I saw this and clicked IMMEDIATELY. ANOES is the all time goat in my opinion, and has been since 1985. I still have my original VHS. Edited fun fact. The reason Rod (the actor Jsu Garcia under the stage name Nick Corri) looked sweaty all the time in the movie is because he was in real life, during filming doing heroin as he was an addict. He was actually high during the jail cell scene while filming.
ANOES is my favorite franchise. I'll admit, there was a brief time as a teen in the 90s when I thought Michael was king, but I later found that it was the Nightmare films I always came back around to most often. So many memorable moments. So many strong nostalgic ties. Even the weaker entries in the series have some undeniably iconic scenes in them.
I just realized that Kristen's introduction to the series foreshadows her death. She's listening to "Into the Fire" by Dokken..how have i never noticed that before?!
4:10 - It's actually the trailer for The Evil Dead that's playing on Nancy's television, meant to be a tv spot for when the film was released in 1981, when this first Elm Street movie takes place.

I was shown Nightmate on Elm Street, by my teenage cousins, as a wee child in the mid 80s. I needed 4 years of therapy to deal with the nightmares and crippling fear it induced in my 4 year old brain.
Loved 1-4.even the dark horse part 2 even though it broke the rules.part 1 introduced us to Freddy with him barely being in the film but felt throughout.2 had his best make-up.3 was just plain fun to watch with the legendary "Dream Warriors" by Dokken.4 for a follow up.cant really stomach the rest, but I will say a new nightmare(7) was interesting.the rest were forgettable. As a huge nightmare fan I wish they would’ve went more into depth with dream warriors and Freddy’s revenge especially since a lot of fans have dream warriors and the original at the top of the list
I saw the remake of a nightmare on elm street. I don’t think it was as terrible as everyone thought. I think Jackie Earl Haley could have been a good Freddie on paper but the fact that they changed the iconic makeup and the script is why I think he failed as Freddie. The old saying comes to mind, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Can you find "Boogeyman 2" from the late 70's or early 80's, it was the only movie I turned off at the beginning when I was 7 y/o. Near the start of the movie, a girl was compelled to shove scissors in her throat while looking out the bathroom window, that's all I remember. It might not be a part 2 it's just what was labeled on the mixed VHS tape of movies I came across. This has bugged me for years not being able to find anything like I remember, but since I was young, and scared me so much that it also could have been a nightmare, I had great nightmares back then. Hopefully JoBlo or maybe you guys out there could help me fix this and find out if the movie exists or not, I just want to face that fear again and maybe scare me like a kid again, please, and thank you.
My favorites are elm street 1 and 3 and new nightmare also am I the only one that thinks joey looks like neve Campbell from scream lol 😂 tbh I love them both
No mention that the movie was inspired by news reports of the still unexplained deaths of multiple Hmong men who died in their sleep while screaming out and trying to fight something off?
they always say those who play the bad guys in the movies are the nicest guys in real life. must be something about getting to sublimate your basest instincts.
Jackie Earle Haley could’ve been a great Freddy Krueger. It’s also a good thing that he wasn’t trying to be Robert Englund - or ostentatiously NOT be Robert Englund - but he was doing something creepy and scary on his own terms. The problem was the movie itself!
The best part of the remake is Jackie Earl Haley as Freddy, the rest is not good except the first kill and the concept of the micro naps was interesting. Part 3 and a new nightmare are also really good.
They could have just had the car take over and drive away with the kids screaming and left the mom smiling and waving. That would have accomplished everything they wanted without the blow up doll nonsense.
By far the best of "the franchise are - 1 & 3 *the 3rd film having the most clever plot line for using the fill in origin story, as there WERE the questions of where he'd come from And it is as well made as NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST & did something different with the concept, especially for a 3rd film to my mind its the true sequel. With so many of these films made what the Mother described about the lynch mob tracking him to a derelict boiler room that story was never told on film (to my knowledge) I lost interest after 3 they just kept getting worse. more silly & jokey

Freddy Krueger
i’d love to meet him and get an autograph
Did you know that him and Mark Hammil used to be roommates and are still close friends to this day?!? I love picturing Freddy Krueger and Luke Skywalker hanging out together.
That's a sheep, not a goat. It stems from the mental exercise of counting sheep to help one fall asleep. Very clever inclusion by Wes Craven.
I also love the double entendre of the phrase “we are treated like sheep to be slaughtered” that applies
I was gonna say, when he mentioned goat. I'm like... Bro? Sleep, dream, sleep??

they always say those who play the bad guys in the movies are the nicest guys in real life. must be something about getting to sublimate your basest instincts.
Jackie Earle Haley could’ve been a great Freddy Krueger. It’s also a good thing that he wasn’t trying to be Robert Englund - or ostentatiously NOT be Robert Englund - but he was doing something creepy and scary on his own terms. The problem was the movie itself!
tina was with rod because he’s hot !
Glen went into a blender. Or Glender.
The best part of the remake is Jackie Earl Haley as Freddy, the rest is not good except the first kill and the concept of the micro naps was interesting. Part 3 and a new nightmare are also really good.
NOES 4
They could have just had the car take over and drive away with the kids screaming and left the mom smiling and waving. That would have accomplished everything they wanted without the blow up doll nonsense.
Did you say Dutch sensibilities about a Finnish director...? :D
Maybe Rob has a rod?
Well he was a hot rod tho lol😅
Chill out with the ding notification sounds. Those with misophonia get triggered with anger and rage
My favorite is dream warriors, then part 2 then the original.

By far the best of "the franchise are - 1 & 3 *the 3rd film having the most clever plot line for using the fill in origin story, as there WERE the questions of where he'd come from
And it is as well made as NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST & did something different with the concept, especially for a 3rd film to my mind its the true sequel.
With so many of these films made what the Mother described about the lynch mob tracking him to a derelict boiler room that story was never told on film (to my knowledge) I lost interest after 3 they just kept getting worse. more silly & jokey
