Nice review but the graphic has a big mistake. It states, VA panels have superb viewing angles. In reality VA panels have poor viewing angles. IPS panels have the best viewing angles of the three panels listed. Keep up the good work. P.S. that benchmark was tough to watch.

In regards to the comment "Who doesn't use external speakers these days", I emphatically declare that I do not. The reason I specifically chose my ASUS 34" ultra wide monitor was because it had built in speakers while the Gigabyte one did not. If Im playing a game or doing anything that I care about the sound quality from, I have my headset on. But if Im just turning my monitor towards my bed and kinda half assed listening to a tech video or documentary while playing a Switch game or doing some coding on my laptop, then the built in speakers mean thats less wire clutter that I need to worry about managing or hiding or fearing my cat chewing on.
There is a market for built in speakers, and I'll tell ya the ones on my monitor are straight up garbage compared to the Viewsonic XG2401 that I had prior to this. However they work for youtube-esque content.

8:14 wtf! could someone explain this to me? will the backlight bleed increase in time if you constantly play games or movies that have a lot of dark scenes?? What if you want to play games where there is a lot of black like Outlast??? or even dark souls? will that decrease the lifespan of the monitor considerably??

First thing I gotta say is you sound A LOT better when you're talking by yourself and not reading the intro.
Now this is OK-ish for a first monitor review. Though it would be nice to include some testing besides going through the specs. Because the manufacturer may claim a lot of things about the product but when subjected to a test things may go differently. Just a suggestion.

  • @3polygons
    @3polygons 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

For gaming pretty much those specs rather than the stand (can always mount an ergotrom or Amazon basics one, or to the wall), maybe the height is important, for ergonomics, so u don't damage your neck or back.... neither the bezel and thickness. For professional work (not gaming) it's like this, IMO (mostly graphics work, but can apply to whatever the work where image accuracy is important) :
    - Color range (when the budget is really low, I advice to at least ensure a full sRGB spectrum, or very close (97% or so)). Ideally full Adobe RGB. But even a 85% -90% Adobe RGB is already very good. 97 -100% is ideal for 1:1 work for print and screen outputs.
    - Uniformity (screens are not uniformly lit, this creates different tones of the same color on different areas of the screen: this is terrible for illustration, graphic design, photography, 3D, etc, etc.
    - Contrast ratio. Optical, not interpolated (that 30.000:1 or so tends to be interpolated, mostly in TN panels, which are a no-way for graphic work. At least, all this with IPS panels. As VA can have a huge contrast ratio, optical. So that VAs can be very good for photography). This ensures less burnt (to white) light tones, and same with the dark tones. Also, ensures often better gradients, less noisy ones. I'd recommend at least 1000:1 , optical. (I've dealt with 700 / 800 ones, tho).
    - Panel Type...VA or IPS. VAs give better, deeper blacks, and amazing contrast ratios, many subtle tones. Often worse ghosting (imo not great for video). Some say IPS panels tend to be a bit less sharper... I don't notice such with pro monitors.
    - Angles... the usual of IPS are fine.
    - Backlight leaking, it's best if minimized, as will show tones lighter than they should, at the borders.
    - Something that is not (often) listed in specs, but if can be calibrated by hardware, and once calibrated, the values (contrast ratio, black levels, delta, etc) are still good enough for work. A bunch of this comes kind of ensured with X-Rite, Pantone or other certification for the hardware. (a few monitors come with this, they're in the professional range, but am seeing it in mainstream premium models. Acer ConceptD, NEC SpectraView (NEC Pro in US) are examples of semi pro (pro series for their brands, those are all the "pro" they can do, really, but they are far from an Eizo ColorEdge CS or, specially, CG, the best monitor series for professional work.)
    - The response time is not so important for work, but it's better to keep at the 8ms or lower value. (at 16ms ghosting can happen in windows, cursor or items movement, and while making animation / video).
    - Dead pixels' policy (and even if the brand have a history of producing monitors with them).
    - Stand full rotation, pivot and height adjustment, I find it important for work (to avoid reflections, to adjust to your posture for very long hour sessions, etc).
    - Non curved. For work, being flat is an actual FEATURE. :D
    - And I am leaving out a ton more, but to think of a few... Many of these DO affect a gamer's experience, too, but are not essential.
(for games, I'd care about 144Hz, 5ms or below is fine, good color range (full sRGB), IPS, adjustable height, 1440p ).

Hey Muse. I'd have a few suggestions.
    1. Turn down the Speaker-Audio when you are not testing it. Especially due to the fact that the Heaven music came out of the Monitor-speakers. The quality is bad (atleast on our end) and it's unpleasant to hear and even when you show the spec sheet.
    2. If you don't have a device to run Heaven properly. Avoid using Heaven. As a short visual presentation it might be fine although a TH-cam-Video might still be better suited but having that stuttery mess in your view the whole time is somewhat annoying. It also atleast for me makes the Monitor look worse than it probably is. There are for sure plenty of still images to better present the Monitor.
    3. HDR-400 does mean 400 nit short term peak brightness. I think it's a few seconds a Monitor must be able to hold that brightness in HDR-Mode and only when looking at HDR content. So that does also mean the regular peak brightness is in general lower. On this model probably 250-300nits.
    4. Backlight bleed that get's worse over time if you use the same game? Never heard of it maybe you refer to burn in of OLED's? Not familiar with TV's but I think there was something with TV panels.
    5. You recommend it for high refresh rate gamers but didn't test for overshoot and didn't do a UFO testing. Also World of Warships and World of Warcraft PVP need high refresh rate???
    6. Isn't TN literally dead in atleast the western world? Even 360Hz Monitors were IPS from the get go. I don't say TN has no usecase but as far as I know that's only if you can get nothing else because of availability or pricing.
Maybe it's just me and maybe I'm dumb and missinformed but to me I see a good amount of potential for improvement.
Your personality itself fits this quite well and you also play it out but I feel like you maybe have to do some reading about monitor specs.
I hope I wasn't rude by pointing this out but I hope for future videos those points might be helpfull to increase the quality.

      Feedback from Tech here...
      1. Yea, Heaven should be muted, Muse probably didn't know that was an option, this is her first go at using it. I wasn't there when this was filmed, was busy with house repairs!
      2. That bloody stupid Aero 3 was the only thing she had to use at the time, I had the office laptop and it was one of those "use what you've got" type things. It really does show how awful that Aero 3 really is for games.
      3. HDR is a deeply overused term in the PC monitor space. Having seen HDR1000 TVs in the store, frankly these all kinda suck by comparison. :)
      4. It's 144hz, for the typical casual esports enthusiast, that's enough. If you're really serious, you're buying a 240hz panel these days, IMHO.
      5. Many people still own TN panels, we have 1 in the office, on the shelf at least. However you're not wrong when it comes to new panels.
Finally, keep in mind this is Muse's first monitor review, for a first effort, I think it went well. I had planned to be there for the filming of this, so that's my fault, she made the most of it. We have MANY more monitors to cover, so the feedback is welcome. :)

This, and the exact number of degrees (there deep and complex studies about it) of the very famous almost 1/4 of a circle salute, are part of the greatest questions that will keep internet communities busy for ages. Only comparable to "Did the Balrog have Wings?", "Milk before, or after the cereals?", "Pineapple on pizza?", "Was the dress white or blue?", "Will Adobe Photoshop run natively on Linux, one of these centuries?", "Did any human really landed on the moon?", "Do GPUs exist?"...

1440p has never looked this good? Lol I guess you haven't gotten round to reviewing literally every other 1440p monitor. This is a decent budget 1440p monitor at best, hardly a top contender for the crown.

  • @gm2256
    @gm2256 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I just wanna echo what others are saying about the feed on the monitor. It’s massively distracting and a poor representation of what this (or any) monitor can do if it’s running a benchmark at sub 1 FPS while you’re showcasing it. Hopefully in the future you can hook up a more capable machine for reviews.
That said, I love the content of the channel and keep being awesome :)

I just got the VG272U (not a typo, it’s a different, but very similar model) yesterday, and I am over the moon. No ghosting to speak off, beautiful colors, deep blacks, and the high refresh rate is amazing. I’m coming from a 1080p 60hz VA, and the difference is astounding
Edit: I haven’t gotten around to testing G Sync compatibility, but if I recall correctly mine is officially G Sync compatible. Unfortunately it only seems to work with a DP cable, and it came with an HDMI in the box

I picked up the following last October while on a special. Given the price difference since then to now this might be a good option for some people, like myself who have limited desktop space for two large wide screen monitors, I opted for a single curved monitor. ✌🏼

BTW, in the OSD menu it shows DP 1.4 but earlier in the video (store page?) it has DP 1.2 port. I wonder if it also has HDMI 2.1 instead of 2.0 showing in the same page.
Don't worry to check or anything. I really don't care about this monitor, I just some times get small details in my mind annoying me for no good reason. Usually I don't say anything.
