On their podcast they’ve had conversations about how it’s hard for him too, and Colleen brought light to this (one specific time that resonated with me was when Erik talked about his reaction when the doctor asked how HE was doing, and then they went on to discuss how not many people acknowledge how a pregnancy and birth journey can be very hard for the father too). I think what it mostly is is that they like to poke fun at each other. For example, Colleen made fun of Erik when he tried to compare a wisdom teeth procedure with a C-section, which WAS ridiculous, as it seemed Erik knew. We all know when people are comfortable making fun of each other it can go a bit far sometimes, but while she may not have expressed it right away, she clarified that the main reason this was strange to her was that women go through ppd because of hormonal changes after birth, which a father doesn’t go through. While she may not have been very attentive to his issues in that particular clip, I think it’s clear that she would never try to make it seem like Erik doesn’t have any struggles or not give him the platform to share them. It’s also interesting to me that you’re claiming Colleen doesn’t believe the things she tells us about her political views. Given that there’s no evidence, it just feels to me like you’re imposing your own views on her because you like her and want to find a way to think that she has the same ideas about the world as you do. Hey Colleen! I am a pediatric resident, and I will say while I don't think our immune systems have changed much, the 'seasons' where we normally expect certain spikes in sicknesses are completely out of whack because of the pandemic. Us masking and social distancing had prevented the spread of certain illnesses, and then some places relaxed their masking mandates and started spreading winter viruses in the summer and vice versa. Basically, we're just vibing in the children's hospital, seeing every type of virus and illness regardless of the time of year. It's very stressful but not unexpected after the past two years we've had. I hope that helps!
But her comment about being around germs to help build your immune system is completely false. Being around more germs for anyone doesn't build your immune system. Our immune systems development has nothing to do with being around germs. Just like cold weather doesn't give you a virus.

Maisey reminded me of the one memory i have from when I was a baby. I was sitting in a car seat (80's baby) in a dark room with orange carpet and green counters. I could hear noises (people talking) but to me it sounded like blah blah blah blah then i heard "yellow" i instantly knew that word cause i looked and saw yellow in the kitchen in front of me. To this day, yellow is my favorite color cause it's literally the very first memory i remember.
I think Maisey might look at the lions and stare at the yellow for it is a intrancing color that fires you brain differently. I'd like to think she can have the same thing happen to me about the colors

Generally, kids do not have good immune systems until they start school (or a daycare setting around lots of other kids). That’s why kids notoriously get sick a ton their first year of preschool. Adults’ immune systems don’t just “forget” what to do. But little people don’t have the practice at all. However, with that being said, I *highly* doubt Flynn got a cold from the beach. Much more likely it came into your home from a doctor’s appointment or something.

I'm not a scientist or doctor, but from my experience as a teacher I feel like that is totally true. Since we no longer have mask mandates and people are going out more often we have had SO much sickness at school. Within the first week back the flu, strep, covid, and a stomach bug were all going around at once.
I'm a teacher too and there have been so many adults and kids out in our building. I decided to keep my mask on while at school because I was worried that all these sickies were going to hit. I'm currently dealing with grief and my body is going through so much that I'm not willing to add to it right now.

I live in South Dakota and we have been out of lockdown /masking for quite a while / and we did struggle with a lot of illness at first. My pediatrician said the exact thing you said. We had colds - strep / stomach flu / but it’s finally after a few months calming down. Hang in there!

If you're an adult with a typical immune system your immune system is the same as before the panini and remembers how to handle different bacteria and viruses (germs) -- however, the stress of the panini can affect how we emotionally (and physically) handle getting sick so it can seem like we feel worse. Also it's like imo when we haven't had a period in months/year like after pregnancy and then when we do it feels terrible? Not only are we not used to the accompanying cramps, bloating, and emotional factors but now we have a baby to take care of too? I think of it like that. :)

I live in South Dakota and we have been out of lockdown /masking for quite a while / and we did struggle with a lot of illness at first. My pediatrician said the exact thing you said. We had colds - strep / stomach flu / but it’s finally after a few months calming down. Hang in there!

also that immune system thing that you were talking about is true, every time you get sick you body will produce something called antibodies that fight off the virus and help you get better. and your immune system is a collective of all your antibodies and the next time you get sick with this cold that you are having now, your body will know how to heal you and help you get batter. and with everyone masking, social distancing, and bathing in hand sanitizer, our immune system is not as wonderful as it was pre-pandemic.

I think it's true about the immune system thing. Before Covid I rarely ever got colds, maybe twice a year at most. Now I get them constantly.
Yeah after I had Covid I had a cold for a straight month...it sucked lol and now I feel like I just get colds A LOT more often

I love it how Flynn naturally wants your attention but he does not seem jealous of the babies!!! He is amazing!!!
If you're an adult with a typical immune system your immune system is the same as before the panini and remembers how to handle different bacteria and viruses (germs) -- however, the stress of the panini can affect how we emotionally (and physically) handle getting sick so it can seem like we feel worse. Also it's like imo when we haven't had a period in months/year like after pregnancy and then when we do it feels terrible? Not only are we not used to the accompanying cramps, bloating, and emotional factors but now we have a baby to take care of too? I think of it like that. :)
