I have never understood how Dominic Chianese did not win an Emmy for his portrayal of Uncle Jun. Junior wasn’t a bad gangster he was sly and cunning but he was so damn insecure. Shows how the mob is a giant popularity contest. Lots of Tony’s brains came directly from being schooled by his uncle.
Pride was his weakness. He was actually smart, but that was more down to his age bringing him wisdom rather than natural leadership qualities. He gave Tony a lot of money to get the title of “boss”. A title that comes with loads of problems, personally I would rather have had the money. Tony was definitely more business minded, just look at the difference in their houses.
@@jamief1263 The only reason Tony got that house is due to the success of his father and uncle though. You think Tony would have been a mob boss without being born into a mobbed up family?
The conclusion to Junior and Tony's relationship is probably my favorite part of the show. Initially Tony comes in angry and standoffish, retaining the same attitude he's had towards junior, until he realizes that junior genuinely doesn't remember him. He finally, for a moment, lets go of all the anger and guilt and does something good for him, reminding him of "this thing of ours". Junior's eyes light up for a moment as he remembers, before he drifts back off and tony leaves in a hurry, seemingly holding back tears.
Absolutely. That tear forming in Tony's eye kills me. It's very painful. At Tony's darkest hour, the Uncle he loved then hated. The last of his mentors both in life and career has completely lost himself. They can't reconcile or even have a proper conversation. Tony telling Junior about who he was and what him and his brother did which completely defined Junior's life is so bittersweet. Tony is speaking kindly in many ways but Junior is so far gone he can't remember. Such a brilliantly written scene.
I love how more Sopranos video essays are being made thanks to the show’s recent surge in popularity again. Hope to see many more like these in the future!
It got popular again because the show is about self-discovery. Things that people are thinking about during the pandemic. Certainly not a mob show as many people figured... It's funny that a lot of people who misunderstood the show back then are now grasping what the Sopranos is really about.
Great analysis and insight. I always found Junior to be a tragic character, he's his own worst enemy, which is a theme for many of the show's characters.

Junior lasted longer than his brother and never had the panick attacks. Aside from trying to kill tony he was one of my favorite characters in the show who could see through peoples bullshit.
It was excellent but the final episodes of the Swedish version of Wallander, showing him in the early stages of dementia was excellent and very moving.

What I've always adored with the Sopranos, is its accurate depiction of real characters. The pressure that your family and their expectations can put on you and how they are expressed. It really hits home.
After watching The Many Saints, I thought, “Crazy to think that Junior had Dickie murdered.” Imagine if that info leaked. It would’ve changed the dynamics of The Soprano’s completely. Sad that Chris never knew how his dad really died.
Sure in the Sopranos Tony told Chris a bent cop killed his dad n Chris killed said cop. Either Junior put that out or they did not plan to make the movie back then.
It really is sad because you know Junior probably could have remained a reliable fixture within the gang if he didn't feel as though he had to aspire to be top guy, a thing which is essential universal throughout all the characters. There's a clear desire on all of their parts in terms of becoming boss that they forget that all they have to do is be trustworthy and maintain the status quo and their careers are essentially guaranteed for life.
The final scene of Tony and Junior, where Junior is in that dark and depressing home is heartbreaking. You think back to all the experiences, all the advice, all the fights, all the business deals, all the drama between Tony and him. And now? None of it matters. Once again, your analysis is absolutely fantastic. From Twin Peaks to the Mandalorian and the Sopranos, your ability to break down every aspect of each storyline, character, etc is spot on. Well done!
Thank you for doing Sorpranos again!🙏You were right about The Boys, too! Thank you so very very much! WILL NEVER DOUBT THE KING AGAIN! Junior was so sad to me, he was overly concerned what people thought. Overly sensitive, but not hyper observant. He never saw all the traps.
Excellent video bro.. I've always thought junior was one of the more fascinating characters and I'm glad you explored him this deeply. Really enjoyed 👌
Still hard to connect that he was Johnny Ola in 2. Sure he was younger, but he really is a tremendous actor and becomes these characters. Also was great in Gotti.
Tony used Junior as advisor when it was something...technically Italian relating to the business. If he needed someone for something that required actual brain cells, thinking outside the box you might say...Hesh.
Great video! I used to love ur Twin Peaks videos. Glad to see ur still at it! I also just happen to be rewatching Sopranos. So this was perfect timing.
Livia would've been one of the most powerful bosses in history if she was born a male. She was more cold and calculating than EVERYONE, including Tony most of the time. Tony even said something to her along these lines once
Livia's personality was evident in the whole family some more so than others.Tony oddly enough was the most like Livia while Janice had both Johnny Boy and Livia's character
Right on, nice analysis. If you've ever had a parent or grandparent with dementia it's true you don't realize it right away and they can create a lot of turmoil in the family with the things they start saying out loud. I don't think either his Mother or his Uncle June wanted him dead. They were just further gone than people understood, confused and acting out all that repressed anger.
In retrospective, almost every bad aspect of Tony's personality can be tracked down to the fact that it was Junior who raised him among the rankings of the DiMeos. Everything except the impulsive behavior which, along with his physical build, is a legacy from his father. Among other things, it includes his bloodthirst, arrogance, bad mood and even a strong inferiority complex, though in Tony's case it is presented mostly outside of his crime family, as he is indeed very competent at his drill and anyone near him with half a brain can realize how foolish (and dangerous) it is to incite his animosity. Hell, Junior even killed Tony's cousin, one of the few who could help Tony and (his own son) Chris grow to be mature and well-respected men, not just "made men". I can't help but think of the Japanese mafia, the Yakuza. Other than being one of the four most prevalent mafias in the world (along with the Sicilian mafia, from which the italian-american crime families take their inspiration), their namesake literally means "good-for-nothings", probably a mockery from the populace who saw them as nothing more than dangerous buffons who couldn't survive outside of their violence. And well, I can't think of Junior doing anything of his life except killing others. He's the perfect good-for-nothing, always hiding behind a gun.
He could be accused of acting like a boss, without wanting to climb the ladder. Very insightful video. I hadn’t considered it before. Delightful work. Keep doing what you are doing. Should be taught like Shakespeare.
Sure, but you're wrong about one thing.... Tony didn't expertly manipulate Junior. The idea to let Junior think that he was boss came from Dr. Melfi. In the session before allowing Junior to "take the reins," Melfi mentions how allowing older folks to think they're in charge avoids issues. She said that and a bunch of other stuff. Tony took this session idea and applied it to Junior. This was hardly Tony's idea.
Jackie was a better Varsity Athlete than Tony was. The family was calm and everyone seemed happy with him as boss. Tony seemed happier as captain also.
21:43 I'm sure Hesh goes back farther with Junior than anyone. Even HE was happy with the arrangement. As the saying goes, "It's not pershonal, it's bishness"
Loved how Tony would be a literal child in the presence of family but when it came to business, he was able to ignore insults to move forward.

Great vid - some pointers that I never fully caught before watching. Cheers!
You failed to mention that Tony would have not only pounded Adriana, but also a catchers mitt.
those who can't play coach. Junior is a coach to better players
Awesome video! Love how you break it down
“I’m in awe-er of you...”
Holy cow man this is so well done!
Excellent video bro.. I've always thought junior was one of the more fascinating characters and I'm glad you explored him this deeply. Really enjoyed 👌
TIL I learned Rummys Corner makes Sopranos videos too?!? Love your stuff, man, keep it up!
You know, Quasimodo predicted all this.
This is a great upload. Thank you so much!
Still hard to connect that he was Johnny Ola in 2. Sure he was younger, but he really is a tremendous actor and becomes these characters. Also was great in Gotti.
You are Rummy's Corner too right? I swear I know that voice! Cool that you cover two of my hobbies! Cheers bro!
Tony used Junior as advisor when it was something...technically Italian relating to the business. If he needed someone for something that required actual brain cells, thinking outside the box you might say...Hesh.
In my humble opinion, Dominic Chianese was the best actor on a series that had many outstanding actors.
Very good video, not a typical Sopranos video I expect but I like the format. 👍
Oh! I thought borko told you not post on these routes anymore
“Next time, post like borko or don’t post at all...”
that "I dont go down enough" will never not spit me out my drink hahahaha
Great video! I used to love ur Twin Peaks videos. Glad to see ur still at it!
I also just happen to be rewatching Sopranos. So this was perfect timing.
Livia would've been one of the most powerful bosses in history if she was born a male. She was more cold and calculating than EVERYONE, including Tony most of the time. Tony even said something to her along these lines once
She was dumb to turn down vegas, so no.
But then again, most varsity athletes never had the makings of a mafioso.
Wow I had no idea this channel existed. I love Rummys corner and now there’s even more content!
Wonderfully done.
You need to do more sopranos analysis this is golden
This was really well done. Thank you.
He's a goddamn hot house flower, this Wow Lynch Wow
Small hands was his problem
A standout at Junior Varsity! Well said! Very great Insight, enjoyed this Piece
He could be accused of acting like a boss, without wanting to climb the ladder. Very insightful video. I hadn’t considered it before. Delightful work. Keep doing what you are doing. Should be taught like Shakespeare.
Excellent analysis. Thanks
Tony still beat up that brolic Mutt at Satrianos.
"What's your problem slamming the refrigerator door"?
He may not have had the makings of a varsity athlete but he managed to outlive everyone else.
Get your coat, we're leaving.
I don't have a coat.
Hey it's my main man from RUMMY'S CORNER!!! I love your boxing knowledge bro...and you are doing a killer job with THE SOPRANOS!!!
Thanx bruh
Sure, but you're wrong about one thing.... Tony didn't expertly manipulate Junior. The idea to let Junior think that he was boss came from Dr. Melfi. In the session before allowing Junior to "take the reins," Melfi mentions how allowing older folks to think they're in charge avoids issues. She said that and a bunch of other stuff. Tony took this session idea and applied it to Junior. This was hardly Tony's idea.
What a great video. Explains a lot, thank you for the great analysis
Jackie was a better Varsity Athlete than Tony was. The family was calm and everyone seemed happy with him as boss. Tony seemed happier as captain also.
Love the Rummy's Corner channel!! Just found this channel, love it as well..
Wow Lynch Wow never had the makings of a varsity Borko
I am always in "awer" of Soprano analysis
We’re not making a western here
wow real informative, long time sopranos fan
The crub your enthusiasm show hd compared to him and bobby had me rolling...lol.
Great analysis buddy!
sweet!! another sopranos video
21:43 I'm sure Hesh goes back farther with Junior than anyone. Even HE was happy with the arrangement. As the saying goes, "It's not pershonal, it's bishness"
Damn, this is good!! If there are more of these I will definitely be watching!!
Borko and Rodolfo close shop, it's open season. The Albanians like Lynch will be uploading videos.
THis was an amazing video. Nothing more to say, but great analysis.
Junior was like Tom Hagen in the Godfather he did give tony great advice for a certain amount of time
Tom wasn't disloyal or cowardly. JR is smart but that's about it
