Thank you for the advice about the tags! I'm new to etsy and I was scratching my head looking at other store's titles and tags and seeing them repeat the same handful of words over and over again. I'm glad to know that I was right to prioritize diversifying my keywords rather than make 10 variations of the same 5 words.
Omg thank you for this. I was one of the people posting a listing everyday but stopped because I didn’t have anything else to post. Also I used up all of the characters in the title and other things you mentioned because that is what I kept seeing on TH-cam. Thank you a billion times.
I was wondering about listing title character numbers too and I'm glad you brought this up. Facebook groups for etsy sellers often give the advice to use all of the characters in your title space. That is where I heard about it from.
Oh wow! I haven’t added clients to an email list because I’ve always felt that should be something they want but…that is good to know…i mean…It’s a HUGE thing to know! Thank you Starla!
Thank you so much for saying what you did about the listing Titles! I have watched many other videos on TH-cam that give all kinds of weird advice about titles, like stuffing as many words as possible, even if it doesn't make sense or look good. I never liked the idea, so haven't done so, but I do appreciate you saying that it's not necessary to! Makes me feel a lot better about it. ❤
Great video, thanks Starla. Just one question regarding contacting customer, I sell digital downloads and I have just increased the resolution on a bunch of the items I sell. Can I pop the buyers a message, letting them know and asking if they would like the better version of my product? Thanks a bunch!
Thank you for this video! I so love your videos Starla. They are so informative. I was also one of those thinking I had to load my Etsy store too. TH-cam seems to be filled with 'how-to make 6 figure sales on Etsy within one month' videos. I was starting to get wore out trying to create new listings everyday to reach that golden listings number. I am however, taking your advice, and going back and correcting all those little mistakes I made early on with the SEO tags, listing titles, bad mockups, etc. instead of just powering through and adding products.
I'm definitely sick of those "get rich quick" youtubers. The logic is akin to saying, "If you buy more lottery tickets, you're more likely to win". Which is true... but you're still paying for all those lottery tickets with no promise that you'll actually make your money back.
Wow!!! I follow someone else who has great info usually and says about using the emails but I had no idea of this info you said! Plus thank you soooo much for knocking out a couple myths I’ve listened to before and still have such a hard time and wondered why like the titles and tags tips you gave. Plus how everyone says try to list once a day. I hardly have time to handcraft and post once a day.
I have to cancel my erank 😢 Etsy put a reserve on my account so I don’t have enough funds for any of my tools like Canva and erank. What a bummer. And I’m not a new shop either, I’ve been selling for five years and I’m 3% away from star seller status. All very frustrating and confusing.
The one about tags is very insightful! Is it worth using all the tags? I can usually conjure a couple of very relevant and good tags, but then the additional tags would no longer be very good, albeit still indirectly relevant to the topic, perhaps.
Definitely use all the tags - BUT not all of your tags need to make "sense", since Etsy will broad match you for those terms in every combination. I have a pretty awesome live demonstration from a few weeks ago that goes a bit deeper into this! th-cam.com/video/n9A7_-UD6NU/w-d-xo.html
on the tags. Stating that exact match is best, wouldn't that mean that even repeating words could be advantageous? Seeing as I could get an exact match for numerous tags. EG amethyst EARRINGS, and gemstone EARRINGS, .... Isn't repeating EARRINGS OK here? I heard ages ago that repeating words was a waste but I don't understand the benefit of having 9 or 10 really vague tags just to avoid repeating the most obvious adjectives for the product I sell.
I understand not using an old best seller listing for a new product, but what if you use a listing that you know isn’t good and isn’t getting views or selling, and has no favorites? Can you change that out with a new product with all new tags, photos, attributes and title (basically update entire thing)? For example, if you forgot to put one on manual renew and it accidentally renewed, and it has like 2 months left? Just wondering about that alternative if it hurts the new product?
You could but there is no real benefit in doing this aside from avoiding the $0.20 fee. You can just as quickly and easily create a new listing from scratch or copy an existing listing. I wouldn't recommend swapping out a listing in this way.
Hi! So I sell crochet plushies, and one of my best sellers is an adorable little manatee. The problem is, the eyes I used to use for it have been discontinued and my stash has run out. The only replacements I have found are very visibly different (but much higher quality and actually cheaper for me). So I know I would have to replace all the listing photos. Will Etsy get mad if I do that, or is it better is I just make a new listing?
Thanks Starla. I've made a silly mistake that got my shop suspended. I create a digital download made-to-order listing and fill in 999 in the quantity field. The Etsy staff thinks my product is a mass product and does not meet the requirements as a handmade product. It's so ridiculous.
Did they reinstate your account after that? I just opened my Etsy shop which I linked to Printify for POD, and today they suspended my account. I still haven't listen anything nor done anything wrong so I appealed and now I'm just waiting for them to review my account and hopefully reinstate it (I heard it's common for this to happen to new shops so I'm trying to stay positive), but after I read your comment I'm starting to get worried about a second future suspension since we also have to put 999 in stock as we are connecting to Printify. It would be super helpful if you could update us about what happened with your shop...thanks in advance!
Quick note on using all 140 characters in titles. Marmalead emphasizes utilizing the entire title and grades accordingly. That might be why it has seen a resurgence.
Can you share the advice you previously heard? I have been teaching the same tag strategy for years so it may not have been my channel. Always happy to take a look though!
Greetings! I appreciate the content you provide. I have a question: I recently shifted my t-shirt sales from Etsy to Shopify. Now, I'm interested in selling different products on Etsy. Is it possible to do so? I won't be uploading a large quantity of t-shirts, probably around 10 or 12.
Ehhhhh, technically they do. But I'm going to guess that you won't make a good solid query match by purposefully entering a misspelled or incomplete word. So I would break the longtail phrase into 2 separate tags.
I find your your content incredibly helpful, i will definitely change my tag strategy because i indeed use the same words in different combinations. i would have a question regarding a boost in visibility of new listings.....I have a Sticker shop and i release 4 new sticker kits every month. i always released these kits all at once. now i am wondering if it makes more sense two release 2 kits every 2 weeks in order to increase the traction due to boosted new listings more consistently throughout the month. otherwise i always see a peak in sales at the beginning of the month (i guess when people get paid) and then when i publish my new releases. I would love your opinion on that. thank you very much in advance.
It sounds like 2 separate release dates might be a good move for your shop. 1 at the beginning of the month and 1 about 2 weeks later. I would test it out and see how it works for you.
There are people teaching that, they go over and over about how you MUST fill out all 140 characters. They actually say fill your shop also..nobody shops at an empty shop, you should work on it as you would a full time job. Thank you for clearing that up.-April
Hi, Can you help me with my etsy shop? I started my etsy shop one month ago, and I got one sale so far. I want ti ask what I was doing wrong. It will save my time a lot. Can you help me in this regard?
My channel has 100's of videos that can help you will all areas that you might be struggling. I recommend starting with this one: th-cam.com/video/WdwzuUOoMZQ/w-d-xo.html
I've heard some Etsy Gurus mention how to tweak the tags and SEO of a listing, and they say to copy the listing and test out different tags and different photos for the same items. Wouldn't this bloat your shop with duplicate listing, and isn't this against Etsy rules?
This is actually totally allowed and something I personally recommend - but only in small quantities for the purpose of A/B split testing. 🙂 You definitely don't want to fill your whole shop with duplicate listings, as this could confuse customers. But testing different keywords or thumbnails with an A/B split test is totally fine and isn't against Etsy's rules.
The same tags can be used - but there's no reason to! Etsy will broad match these terms along with all other keywords used in your tags and titles of singular listings. If you've had sales from these listings already, it's best not to touch them, as you do not want to disrupt the rank you've already generated from those sales. But for future listings, you don't need to repeat the same words over and over again in your tags and titles unless you're really aiming for a broad match. It isn't necessary and it uses up a lot of space you could otherwise utilize for more keywords in your tags.
Having them on auto-renew is a good thing! 🙂 You'd only lose your ranking if those products were inactive/sold out because shoppers would be unable to interact with them - and interaction from shoppers is one of the primary contributors to your listing quality score, which is what helps you to rank in search!
Hey there Starla, I replied to your SEO email yesterday regarding your upcoming training, where you said we should reply with any questions... About 20 to 24 hours ago, you haven't replied yet. It's quite a lengthy email.
@@StarlaMoore Ok, great, thanks! Now that I've finished watching this video, I have a question. How do you get your Etsy customers to opt in for your email marketing list? Also, where can I find out how to create a great email sequence, and how many emails would suffice? Could I set up an email sequence that always automates, or should I manually write emails periodically? I would love to set up an email list that could automatically go out, say weekly, for like two to three years, maybe.
Unfortunately this is a long process that I cannot really cover in a quick comment. I actually have several hours in my Etsy course where I cover email list marketing, simply because it takes so long to explain and there are a lot of legalities involved in email list marketing.
