Fiamma F45s awning unbox and installation tutorial on a Citroen Relay

- In this video we install our Fiamma F45s awning to the side of our Citroen Relay L4H3 van. I am pleased I went with the side mount as appose to the roof mount as it is barely reachable on tip toes to release the legs as it is when unwound by about 1m as the instructions suggest.
Very happy with the end result although still not convinced if I should not have had the black version. Comment down below what you think, black or white?

I enjoy your videos a lot, in fact me and my partner were 90% convinced in jumping onto a camper project and your videos were the push we needed as you cover everything and very well explained. I've got the same van and bought the same awning. Noticed the instructions tell not to mount it on a slant and just bought the brackets Fiamma suggests for the H3 vans. After receiving the brackets ( 2x 40cm brackets) I noticed that the fixings are not the same as with the flat brackets, they come with screws which I don't like. I will try to replace the screws with bolts and see what happens😂. Came to the messages of this video to see if anyone else had done it or if you addressed it but got lost with all the OMG the music blah blah comments. People are great sometimes 😂. Can't wait to see your second van built.

I have not had any issues with mine on a slight slant but if in any doubt my advice would be not to copy me but follow the instructions? thanks for watching and good luck with your build.

the only problem is that using the original fittings the awning will be unwinding too high. The wall of the van have an angle on the top and this awning needs almoust 90 deg walls. It runs almoust parallel with the ground witch coul make very difficult to acces the legs, especially if the ground have some slope. I did exactly like you and realised that too late. I'm shure you did it too with the first attempt . I took everything down and reinstall it (of course I thought about it too long and the sealant was concrete dry:)) with some spacers on top of the plates to compensate some of that angle. And put another screw on the down side of the plate to keep it in place. I also made a special piece (triangular in section to fill the space between the wall of the van and the plate, to have a better support when tightening the scews.
I take on board those observations for sure, one thing i have noticed is that because it does lean back slightly the legs fall out as soon as you start to unwind it potentially marking the side of the van. I also have to unwind it by about a meter to reach the legs when stood on the ground if they have not already dropped. i will try it over this coming season and see how i get on and will make some amendments to it if needed, but some good ideas. thanks for that. all the best.

Nice video mate, I agree with others about the music. Also, will you be siliconing the length of awning between the van and the awning housing? Don’t really want water sitting in there
thanks for noticing the music, some didn't so must make it louder next time. i used the fiamma rain strip behind the awning. no drips at all. dont silicone it as the gap is too wide and will look like a horses ass!
Finished fitting mine today, I think Three bolts holding it in is shocking, would take 2 mins to steal it, I have put rivets in spare holes, for a little bit more security.

Hi, Great Vid, I'm looking at getting one for my high top transit, my question is how to stop rain running behind the awning against the side of the van and into the side door.

A very timely and pertinent question as just considering a video on how I overcame this one with not one but two rubber seals. It is a pain in the backside for sure as the water does run straight behind and into the open door.

Any issues with the angle of the roof? Some people have said you have to use specific brackets given the lean on the upper side of the roof (i.e. it leans inwards).
But then I can’t see any H3 ducato specific brackets on fiammas website anyway
not really been an issue, a couple of times it has caught right at the end just a bit, but by winding it in and out again it clears so has been OK for me. I too heard about these brackets but never found them. if really concerned I think you could use spacers or washers with the existing brackets to gain a little bit extra. hope that helps.
At 12 minutes in, you add your 3 nuts and bolts to attach awning onto brackets....I need to replace these, just wondering if you know the dimensions of them so that I can order them from the parts store? Thanks

Hello, I have an H3 van and I'm trying to work out whether I put the awning on the side (F45) or on the roof (F80). I have a tall Vango drive away tent which says it's height is 255-295. I'm worried putting on the side like in this video would be too low. What would you recommend please? Thanks
If I was to do it again I would probably do a full roof rack to mount the solar panels on and as such, would seem sensible to mount the F80 to the side of it. I was worried about the height for operating it, but actually it would be fine (unless you are five foot nothing of course)
Great video, surprised there are not more like this on here. I am fitting my F45s soon, have you experienced any issues by using the plates that came with it rather than the vehicle specific brackets? very tempted to just use the brackets in the box than spent another £70-80 on the brackets. Thanks
I found the supplied plates just fine, yes it leans back a bit but it operates just fine and does not seem to 'pull' on the metal body of the van at all when extending it. I was led to believe that the vehicle specific brackets were for roof mounting options, not side mounting unless i read that all wrong.? Good luck with your install.
just bought the same awning and it says in the instruction that has to be mounted to a flat straight surface that is 90 degrees . my roof is slightly slanted like yours is . Did it cause the awning to open slanted up or was it ok once opened ?? great videos using them to build our van . Very informative great work
yes, I read that aswell. the brackets to adjust the pitch to 90 degree are crazy money so I just went for it. it seems to open and close without issue and starts to hang down almost immediately so im happy but please do what you think is best for you.

Might have already been asked but does rain water run behind the awning, down the side of the van and into the potentially open sliding door?
great question and nobody has in fact asked that. the answer is yes water does run down the back so i additionally installed the fiamma rain strip that just pushes in behind the awning. hope that helps, cheers.
Hi, any thoughts after fitting the awning to the side of the van rather than onto a roof rack? Debating the two options and slightly nervous about the weight on the side panels of the van.
From a weight point of view, no issues at all. if I did it again I think I would carefully consider the F80 or F45 attached to a roof rack as well. that would I think be better but on the H3 it is of course so much higher again though.

Going to fit the Fiamma F45s tomorrow. Instructions say brackets should be mounted on a vertical surface but the Citroen looks like it's leaning back - is this a problem?
Also where was the extra support bar for for your 4mt fitted ?

Yes mine does lean back a bit but it does not seem to hurt the operation at all. you could buy the brackets from Fiamma for this purpose or perhaps just 'pack out' behind the supplied brackets with some spacers to level it up if you were worried about it. The extra support bar clips into the middle when the awning is extended. Although I have used the awning several times during the very hot weather, never used the support bar yet. Thank you for sharing. You mentioned, the guide rail that sits on the outside/face of the awning. Do you know what size (in mm) the rail is? (as I would like to purchase a sunshade or drive-away awning but want to ensure it fits inside that rail) Thanks
I'm not sure to be honest, although it is my understanding that the additional rubber joining strip for connecting the two together is fairly universal in size. try emailing fiammastore.com they have always been pretty helpful.

It does in the instructions but I cant now remember exactly how far in? sorry but hope that helps.
I'm just trying to fit the rubber on to it to stop the rain running off roof behind the awning and into van door??? No videos so far from what I can see
Ah yes, I did fit this rubber but did not occur to film it as it just pushed into place, but it does fit where it touches a bit :-|
good video i have fitted the same to my van but i need to seal the fiamma awning to the van , the rain just runs down the side of the van ie the gap between. do fiamma sell a plastic gasket or do i use a flexable filler
I've experienced the same problem with rain running between the gap. i have looked at this : www.fiammastore.com/Fiamma-Accessories-for-Zip-F45-F65/Fiamma-Rain-Guard-Rubber-Seal , but have not purchased yet so cant comment if any good or not.
Hi there, would you mind showing or tell me if when your awning is wound out, does the awning case stay flush with the van along its length or do you notice some slight bowing of the awning case?

You could mount it to the side of an appropriate roof rack for sure, but directly to the roof mounts you would need the F80?
