thanks for the vid! getting poptop fitted to my van soon and ordered awning. Then thought OH NO it will not fit!!! for the problems you have just resolved. many thanks, Subscribed to your channel 👍
Top job, I was being a smart arse and had my Fiamma brackets powder coated before fitting them 👍🏻 but then I didn’t key up the powder coating and now the adhesive doesn’t stick so I need to do it all again 😂. I also bought a cheap rubber self adhesive strip for £5 on eBay to prevent the water running off the van when opening the sliding door, a lot cheaper than the Fiamma purpose made gutter for £80😮
always use M5 hex or Torq engineering screws with Nyloc nuts to secure awning to mount plates, never rely on self tappers, I took a van out on a test drive hit the brakes and watched the awning shoot off down the road , they had used self tappers!. Second camper I owned also self tappers so I changed them, on the older F45 fitting diagram they specified 12mm M5 with Nyloc nuts. I use M6 15mm with Nyloc nuts
Watched umpteenth videos and then yours umpteenth/twenty times - so - just ordered the parts - including rivnut gun and glue/sealant - although we have a left hand drive van! Caveat I have self converted before (Citroen Relay) and fitted an awning with the help of a couple of ex-plumbers :-)
@@urbanarkoverland Hi just got my awning and left hand brackets. I have just fitted the front bracket with the rivitnuts - watched your video again I used the same type of gun as you did but with the orignal rivitnuts supplied. I had to use a ratchet strap to tighten the nuts. Did you use the nuts supplied or different ones - the ones that come with the gun when practising are a lot easier to squeeze!
Wanting to fit one to my Toyota Regius that im converting into a bit of a multi-purpose use van for family weekends away and also to use to take my motorbikes to trackdays etc! Would have been super helpful if you showed the actual process of putting on the brackets with the rivnuts etc.
I kinda don’t the b roll. Thing is. Things like. How to fit a rivnut have their own dedicated videos on TH-cam. If I did. How to do a rivnut every time I did a rivnut. People would stop watching.
@@urbanarkoverland yeh I’m still in 🥴 hopefully out soon , serious but not life threatening, had emergency surgery so have to be monitored for a few days, 5g getting hammered 😂😂
Why use the fiamma awning with the Thule brackets.?...I have used both over many years and would honestly say that the Thule awnings are significantly better made. But that's just my opinion😉😉. Its a while since I fitted an awning to a transporter, but as you have done, get the back position sorted first, as this is the end that will need to be snug to the pop top. One thing that I found useful as I was often fitting the brackets on my own. In order to get the front and rear level and parallel (to avoid the awning twisting) I used a length of aluminium profile to bolt the 2 brackets to . Then mark the appropriate holes with both brackets held level and parallel and fit the rivnuts. Then bed them down on sikaflex and tighten up the bolts but only to the point where the first part of the bracket touched down. By leaving it overnight with the joining strip holding everything level, the following day it was perfect and solid. As I am writing this it sound like a right pain in the arse😂😂😂....but definitely better than finding out the front bracket is 5 degrees out from the rear and then trying to adjust it.
You are absolutely right regarding figment trick. Didn’t have anything like that to hand unfortunately. It’s fitted and fits and works nicely. I fitted a Thule to my silver van and loved it. Although always struggled to open the bloody thing, think there was a nack. Because one never shine more brightly that the other. I chose the Fiamma as it is deep black. Truly black 😂👍🏻
@@urbanarkoverland The thule is definitely more anthracite and a bit more textured. The fitting jig came out of frustration as you are trying to fit 2 things level....8 ft apart and both mounted to curved surfaces going in different directions...I used to spend ages trying to eye up the front one having dry fitted the back one.
@@voyageadventurevans no I get if mate. That makes great sense. Ye the anthracite just wasn’t gonna wash. I look at my van every day. I use the awning once a month at a push ha

I have an f45s on the big van. So I have some parts that are transferable etc. awning sides and legs etc. also. I wanted this as it’s deep black. I believe the Thule are like a graphite grey. Fitted a Thule to my silver sprinter 👍🏻
@@urbanarkoverland This is a genuine question, I need to make up my mind which one should I get, the price difference is not that big between the two but if I am considering a privacy room with it ( not sure if it's worth it yet) then the Thule definitely looks better without that many wrinkles on the material especially in the window surfaces ..
Lovely job! I love my thule awning for all the reasons you said
Have a great camping trip 🤙

Well it’s a good day then ha
Nice job!, noticed the roof rails on pop top and wondered if you have a video on installing them, had a look but couldn’t find any.
No mate. It’s 4 bolts. Not much to it 😀
5 mins in and thought you had more spotlights fitted to the roof until I realised it’s your sprinter behind 😂

Interested if you will solve the issue of raining falling between awning and the side door !!
Ha. There is a stick on rain shield I have seen. Wouldn’t be cake to stick straight enough for my liking ha

It’s a bit more than just a screw.
Also. You are saying. Use a screw and a nut 🤷🏼♂️
Hi, thanks for the great video. Do you have a video going into detail on how to drill the holes and prepare them before installing the brackets?

Nice one , strange why Fiamma don’t do black brackets 🤷🏻 I’ve put an F80s on a crafter and luckily they are well hidden only due to height 👍🏻

Great video, very good job I like that solution can you remeber the part number of that Thule brackets??
No. But there is a link to a shop where you can buy I think 👍🏻
I’d be interested to know if you can still get under the 2m height barriers with the awning? Cheers.
That’s a great question. I will have to check. I believe it’s still lower than the roof bars
Top man, really well explained. Super useful
Thanks matey
Any reason you went for the fiamma over the Thule? Both seemed similar when I looked, not sure on pricing.
Looking at getting one before spring 👍🏻
Pure vanity. The deep black colour as opposed to graphite 😏

Fiamma vs Thule awning? Which are better? I’m a big Thule fan boy so naturally want a Thule one. But would go fiamma if they’re better.

Can I ask what size rivit nut is used on the top? I need to get a rivit tool. Is it bigger than M8?
I think it was an m8 yes
what are them brackets fro the bar light dude ? want some.
Have a whole video on them mate 👍🏻
Why did you go for fiamma over Thule if the Thule bracket is perfect.
Mainly because I have a lot of accessories for Fiamma for my other van that I can share. And the colour bits deep black as opposed to grey 👍🏻
But how do you add a tent awning to the side of your van? - is one or the other?
Yes. Although Fiamma have their own awning rooms
Do you know what brackets you used so i could order please
I say in the video. Make a big point about them. And in the description.
What actual mounds did you use?
Thule omnistor
Why not fit the Thule awning then..? Is the FIamma that much better as an awning than Thule?
Just liked the deep black colour. Thule a great option.
