Rear door internal handle relocation on Citroen Relay / Ducato / Boxer / Promaster.
In this video I relocate the rear door handle on my Citroen Relay camper van. the same process and kit fits the Ducato, Boxer and Promaster.
When installing a fixed bed, the door handle in its original location usually then is at the same height as the bed frame meaning that, in an emergency, you cant open the door.
The kit came from Voyage Adventure Vans as a complete kit including the cable, ply template and fixing kit

I hope you never have to remove the rear passenger side window panel. Did the manufacturer recommend fitting it that way. I would have been tempted to cut the panel so that the latch receiver was fixed firmly to the door
Yes, it is exactly where the manufacturer describes in the instructions.
As someone who has investigated many van thefts and break ins I can assure you none of these are effective, your van is only as safe as you windows, most of which are easily broken or melted if plastic, thief’s easily climb in through broken windows, yer you can have a safe for you valuables but most are ineffective, once they are in they are undetected and take time to go through your stuff or break into a safe! In fact having these just cause more damage to your van, they are unlikely to steel your van as they are easily found via ANPR ! Air tag works as good as any tracking device !
I both agree and disagree! yes, nothing stops the 'would be' thief from simply breaking the windows and this applies to all vehicles of course, but should we just do nothing and accept our fate? No! the more visual 'deterrents' on the van for both a 'pro' who might think "today, i cant be ass to drag myself through a broken window opening" to the novice who looks and thinks that is too much bother, especially if parked near others that dont have these things and appear to be easier pickings! I have a tracker and a simple engine cut off switch too and I dont generally leave any valuables in the van when unattended. We can only do what we can do, and you do you for your own security of course.
@ mmmm my experience says they look for those with the most locks because they think they have something worth having they want to keep safe!! But that said I have no statistical evidence to back that up what so ever 😂
A good hose with fresh water. Work into the letters some good quality green washing up liquid with a tooth brush. Leave for half hr. Rinse off using hose. Magic sponge the letters. I did the whole wall of the tyres. Rinse off and boom letters are white like new. This method uses very little abrasion. Not sure whats in Magic sponges but I use them for all types of jobs. They deffo live up to their name
I wouldn’t waste your time with the chain around the seats if someone really wanted it they just bolt crop it but other then that good video
Agreed if a 'pro' comes prepared but for the passer-by novice, are they going to have this equipment?
@ let’s hope not but you’ll be surprised what people carry around with them today but there’s nothing wrong with taking extra proportions👍🏻
Hello, can you please share where did you buyed these tanks? Thanks
the clue is on the thumbnail!
Why the annoying music while you are sharing valuable information? Is is a TH-cam thing?
so you comment like so many have already as it is all interaction that youtube likes so thank you.
Hi, thanks for this helpful video. Even years on some like me have copied your design. It look very professional. A couple of notes for others. My doors are 300 x 600. They weigh 2 kg (you could route the backs out?) Struts are 80 newton's. With a nudge they self close, open and latch. Note the evo latches are plastic but are still very good. Note the hinges are only adjustable once fitted, in/out and up/down. For left / right, fit hinges to doors and align to your frame including spaces, then mark out. I used plastic shims to get gaps spot on. Take your time 😊
Thanks for the tips!

random? i raise you with a 11:12 ?
I am about to go and buy a drivers instead of starving for two months in order to buy a passenger seat . All I can say is this video has been the answer to my prayers got to congratulate you also on the easy explanation instructions on how to do it all instead of baffling everyone with science. I seen many conversions footage were they all seem to have access to every power tool under the sun as well as a garage that looks like Halfords, great video very informative and simple thanks 👌🏼
Thanks, I'm glad it helped. good luck with your build.
Why doesn’t the manufacturer have anything at all on details of the installation of THERE OWN WINDOW? Makes zero sense? I guess it’s so they don’t have records of how to install it then later find out it was not the best way to install it?
Think both you and the “vapour barrier knowers” are wrong, I would choose a membrane , a put in between wall and steel panels can vape out but can’t get in. I think you are doing exactly the same, knowing it exactly..
interesting. i was actually considering a product like IntelloPlus but 'chickened out' in the end. I would be certainly thinking along these lines for van no2!
well done. Life might be a bit easier if your really soaked those old bump stop bolts from above with some pentrative product 24 hours or more before starting work, then work them backwards and forwards so you dont muck up the threads. I'd prefer having that gauge where I can see it on the dash board, and would much prefer having left and right pressure gauges.
17:15 imperial system in a nutshell LOL
I contacted the manufacturer that supplies our source for the bubble foil insulation. They said I could layer the sheets to gain over 12R value. There is a USA manufacturer of $200,000 priced class C & B RV's, EMBASSY RV. They are layering the bubble foil 8 layers inside the walls of their sprinter type vans. They have tested this system using 150F heat lamps on the outside of the vans and claim the inside of the vehicle maintained normal room temperature. They also are using the very expensive fiberglass Sandwich panels in their other larger motorhomes. TWO MISTAKES DIY BUILDERS MAKE. *They compress the insulation* this destroys the R value. They also forget to install sufficient *Powered Air vent* I personally do most of our cooking and showering at my outdoor accessories.
How many amps was the D+ fuse?
hi how did you get on with the multi foil ceiling blanket after did it work .
Great video, wouldn't it have been easier to just put a piggyback fuse on your ignition wire? Saves the worry of cutting through with a splice connector, cheers
Just one very important point, your fuse position leave most of the cable to your batteries unprotected, the cable to your leisure battery bank from the fuse would still be live, so a short along that run would not blow the fuse… The lead to the van battery is similarly not protected by the fuse in the position. Fuses should be placed as close to the power supply as possible (in this case the batteries) to avoid having and unprotected cable run.
The cable to the leisure batteries terminates into a Lynx Distributor where it is fused and the connection from the Lynx to the batteries is also fused so there are three fuses in all between DC/DC and the battery bank. Thanks for taking the time to voice your concern though. cheers.
That makes perfect sense to me. I would put a very barrier on the roof so that if it did leak the water would drizzle down the sides and leave plenty of circulation so it can dry out before it becomes a problem. Thanks for the tip.
thanks for your comment and for watching.
Brilliant conversion and an inspiration! Are the kitchen's water pipes under the van's floor, i.e. outside?
They are encapsulated in the floor in the 25mm pir insulation depth. thanks for the comment.
@@wiltshirecustomcamper7203 Of course, if I'd watched your "floor installation" video first, I would have known that! Your videos are the kind of thing that make me want to go out and cut holes in the side of vans. Trouble is, I haven't got mine yet, so the neighbours aren't impressed 🙂
So how is it, 3 yrs on was it the right decision?
correct decision for me. no condensation or damp issues. all good.
Ive just got myself a 2021 boxer H2L4. First job is to get the single front seat - ive heard its hard to find..? The seats are same as yours with the red dot patten. Do you have any advice or pointers as to where to look??
single passenger seats are about but the sellers know how valuable they are so you will pay a small fortune for it. drivers seats are more easily found and converted to fit on the passenger side.
Why not use an Airtag?
I prefer to be 'pro-active' not 're-active' but thanks for the comment and for watching.
What's that got to do with your decision?
@@turkeyphant I prefer to stop the van being stolen in the first place than use an airtag to find it afterwards. perhaps it is crashed or ransacked or burnt out? I do of course have a tracker too. properly installed.
@wiltshirecustomcamper7203 I agree but you used a tracker that does the same thing as an airtag. That's what i was talking about not the other parts
How do you rate the mattress?
crap. always go as much as you can afford and will fit.
Did you already have C1? How much did it cost?
already on my license! (showing my age there...)
Did you have to beef up your alternator, and did you engine management light come on whilst charging?
neither. thanks for watching.
Hi Are these windows double glazed --- ie to cut down condensation. thanks
yes they are. thanks for watching.
What's the benefit of painting the wheels?
Thanks for watching. Best answer I can give is that if you need to ask the question then definitely dont paint yours.
Hi mate, how did you get on with this?
not a drop of damp or problems at all so all good.
Or just buy a victron……so much easier
Perhaps, but I dont like relying on 'tech' to auto switch on DC-DC on and off, I like a good old fashioned button to press. What can I say, I'm a pen and paper guy!
How is it getting on now?
All good and happy with vapour barrier decision.
What are the cutout dimensions please?
You should take your own measurements from your own window as they may be very slightly different? just remember a couple of millimetres 'wiggle' room.
Hi, thanks for the video, I was going for the CTA frame but you have me re-thinking. I'm assuming you are not too far from me (Hampshire). Would be great to have a chat about other parts of your conversion. I might email you directly.
i didnt see the connection to the leisure battery? or the settings for lithium.
Apologies. it is wired with 16mm cable to the lynx distributor at the back of the van. The calculations suggest that for that length of cable run it should be 25mm cable! but it charges fine at 38.2amps and no, the cables dont even get warm! make of that what you like??
I’ve seen a few other van build videos with the renogy 2000w inverter suggest using a resistor to discharge the capacitors in the inverter. You’d think with the power switch off there would be no sparks when connecting to the battery terminals but apparently not. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Yes. making mountains out of molehills I think! You dont exactly connect and disconnect daily so although, yes I got a good spark when making the connection, it was only the once as I have not disconnected it since....
@ All my vehicles at some point have had electrical voodoo where a corroded connection or frayed ground has caused error codes. I just went through a wire harness replacement from rodents nesting. Upgrading the wires to the inverter is a must. I’ll still do the resistor thing ti prevent a ‘surge’ from the capacitors whereas previous I thought it’s perfectly safe to connect. I like your setup better than my own. I go direct to the battery and I should have gone to a bus bar or as you have in the Lynx power in module. Going victron instead of all Renogy is a less error prone system. My 30A Renogy charger seems to have phantom voltage when I have my old marine fridge and solar charging. I solved one ground issue but I’d like to swap out the fridge, charge controller with victron and do the 50mm wire upgrade checking all connections replacing the end connectors with marine grade. Good video.
@@JohnLaFosse The fact you know what a phantom voltage is puts you ahead of 99.9% of van builders, well done on that!! The renogy inverter is good at ghost voltages FYI. best of luck with it.
Hi. Great video i have the same bench seat and will give your idea a try. Had it worked out do you have a picture of the finished seat?
Hi. yes it worked out fine. i needed 2x original front seats to rob all the parts i required. will cover this in forthcoming van tour video.
@wiltshirecustomcamper7203 thanks for your reply. I have my original front seat I'm going to re use all the parts, the drop down tray I will pack some additional form behind. Did you find an upholster ok, I'm struggling to find someone in the north east
Brilliant, well done, mate. Safe journeys.
Many thanks!
I was just wondering how you've got all these years later with not installing a vapour barrier?
Great question. I am planning a follow up video so all will be revealed. but the 'spoiler' to that is, yes its fine..
Nice & patient instalation , Will this charger not work if it's not connected to the ignition ?
Needs a D+ connection to operate.
After doing this, does your seat go down fully with the right side leavers which lower and raise the front and rear of the seat? I don't this and now my seat won't go all the way down at the rear.
No. I should have added to the video that this method will firmly clamp the back of the seat so any adjustments need to be made before the full tighten up. you can make these adjustments of course by just loosening off the nuts a bit and then re-tighten once you're happy.
@@wiltshirecustomcamper7203 yeah, I'll need to take my seat out again anyway, it's too high up for my pint sized missus. Thanks for getting back to me.
A bit of 20mm conduit over the top for the bar you would never know love in the camper van 😊
Very true!
what size doors did you use
They come in a wide range of sizes so go for the ones to best suit your design. note the orientation of the edges however as a 40x60 and a 60x40 are NOT the same thing.
Hi I have watched all your videos, and I find you talk sense. I read on FB and elsewhere that the longevity of ikea kitchens in a van is not good, due to movement and moisture. 2 years on from your install are you still happy with the units or would you have done it another way?
Thanks for the good question. yes, all good so far. have recently checked and still all secure and no sign of moisture ingress. only thing i would change if did again would be 'all' drawer units and not cupboards as much more of the carcass can be removed to save weight and it is never seen. it is worth the extra effort to seal all the raw edges when fitting to add a bit of belt and braces.
Perfect Thank You
Hi The cables that charge the house batteries connected to the busbar ?
Yes. everything connects to the Victron Lynx busbar. cheers
Great video 👌 I'm currently in the stage of building my own shower cubicle and got alot from this. Thanks for posting it online 👏
Glad it was helpful!
YOU'RE WRONG!!!! Just kidding, I have no opinion on the matter. Very Informative video.
thanks buddy.
Hi mate. What size are the Sumo.I want for my van Fiat Ducato 2018 -2,3 diesel
good question. I think for the ducato/boxer/relay there is only one choice? might be wrong but dont recall seeing options?
Ridiculous comparing insulation and vapour properties of a building to those of a van, not even remotely similar !
No indeed, silly me. nobody cooks or showers in a house. you do you my friend. it was the right choice for me and very happy with it.
@@wiltshirecustomcamper7203 Wow, the lack of education and stupidity in that reply is beyond belief. Do you really, really think that a insulated metal box has the same properties as brick, plaster, and timber🤣😂
Great video thank you 👍did you think about using all 15mm domestic push fittings and pipe I thought John guest was quite expensive. Just wondering thank you and good luck 👍👍👍🏴🏴🇬🇧🇨🇦🦢
It is a close call really. yes the 15mm JG pushfit pipe and connectors are easier and cheaper but you need alot of 15mm to 12mm reducers which are quite expensive for final connections so all in all, not much in it I think. essentially either works just fine.
Did you consider using the orignal double seat frame? or is that not as wide? Thanks for the content! lots of your videos liked and saved!
I did consider it but very difficult to get it to fit any sense, and also would be far too low to match the front seats when they are swivelled.
@@wiltshirecustomcamper7203 thanks for the reply! with the solway seat frame do you have to use the sportscraft seat bases or can you use the original bases?
