    A really interesting episode. Both of you are so articulate and thoughtful, that it’s really a pleasure to listen. I love the episodes in which the guest doesn’t simply say vague and general statements about a culture, but really fleshes out the differences between different cultures and gives more detail on their experiences. This was super insightful. I also relate a lot to both of your perspectives and preferences on dating. I’ve lived in Finland my whole life but been exposed to various international circles perhaps through having an English dad and a desire to explore different cultures as a result… and I have to say dating men in Finland is super hard for me due to the lack of romance, passion and conversational skill. Listening to what you guys said about French men being inclined to question and dig deeper made me want to go there so bad, as this is exactly the type of conversational dynamic I’m missing here. I find that Finnish people (though often very articulate) are very practical people and thus often prefer to show love and spend time by doing instead of talking. It’s a very well-functioning society but I feel my internal life is too active for this culture, as my preferred way is to connect by sharing inner lives and thoughts conversationally, and not only through activities.

    11:15 Actually, in Russia, there are fewer women than men in the 20 to 40 range. The overall "more women than men" comes from men's shorter life span and the vast disparity in 60+ range.

      @user-mn6sq3is4t you can check the demographics. Up to the age of 40 there are more men, after 40 - slightly more women, after 60 there are much fewer men, and after 80 it's almost women only. As Russia has an aged society (average age is about 44), there are *significantly* more women than men *overall* .

      @user-mn6sq3is4t well, dating is currently difficult in Russia. The vast majority hate the dictator Putin and strictly oppose Russia's invasion in Ukraine, but they will not admit it to a stranger or in a public place because they fear persecution. However, if they think that you might be a Putin's supporter, they will avoid dating you. And if you are against Putin, it may be difficult to convey it safely. If you choose to support Putin, your potential dating pool is much smaller, especially as a person of non-Russian ethnicity (many of Putin's supporters are nationalists).
      I wouldn't go to Russia at least until the crash of Putin's regime.

    I have a lot of experience outside the US, though I was born there. I’ve done business in 25 countries and been in another 15 more for personal reasons. I’ve been an expat for the last 8 years, now live in Ireland as an Irish citizen. I’ve dated girls from a number of different countries. One major conclusion I’ve drawn is that Western women are more emotionally developed than their peers in non-Western countries. I think the reason is that Western women are socialized to develop more fully. Even more importantly, traditional societies are not good at showing vulnerability, since that demonstrates weakness, which is shunned. And showing vulnerability is key to developing a significant emotional connection.

    I’m sensing a double standard where western women want to be non-traditional but want traditional men. 🤔🤔🤔

    Ah ... what's to be done. People try to tell them, try to have their best interests in mind, and they can't imagine how someone could say such a thing. Then, when they haven't taken the advice, and exactly what they were warned would happen happens, they can't understand what the problem is. We ALL, men and women, have a sell by date. I'm a man, and in my sixties, unmarried, no kids, and I live alone. If I have a heart attack at home, or even just slip and fall in the bathtub, I"ll lay there until they bust in and find what's left of me. We're all on the clock, and the clock is ticking. It's not a plot or a conspiracy, or sexism. It's life and death. Here we have an attractive, intelligent writer. Don't tell me she couldn't find a husband if it was a priority to her. It's not. She's like me. And she still won't listen. Sad. My time has passed. She still actually has a chance, if she'd give up the trivial for the important.

      It made me sad when she called the person she's in a relationship with her "partner".

    Is she expecting sympathy talking about the hipster French bf? He used her. He treated her badly. She used him as well. And she also selected to be with him 🤔 But that isnt spoken until the end after she built up this huge backstory about him. Okay.

    Russians match very well with americans. Pretty much the same dating culture. And Russians match very badly with Scandinavians. In general.

    • @stormmaster108
      @stormmaster108 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes, I agree. "In general" is the important part, though.
      I somehow developed scandinavian culture all on my own. Back then, I just thought I was weird. Many years later, after I determined the most beautiful language for me (Swedish), I started to learn about Swedish culture - and it happened to be just exactly how I was. From being quiet and appreciating Lagom to perception of relationships and dating culture. I have even always kept friends' groups separate, starting from early childhood.
