In this video I head out with the Fuji X100v & Ricoh GRIIIX to compare them, shot for shot.
We take a look at the differences in apertures, colours, sharpness, and how the raw files hold up with editing.
Hopefully it helps people who are looking to purchase one of these cameras - if it does, please think about liking and subscribing.

The difference in sharpness and quality with Ricoh is huge, didnt expect that.
Yeah pretty significant difference
I would borrow another x100v to confirm the softness, you need to determine if the softness consistent with all x100v or just the first x100v in the video
@@StuartRodwellI had both and just sold my Fuji X100V and Ricoh GRIIIX, the Fuji X100V is every bit as sharp as the GRIIIX, did you buy the Fuji second hand, it is faulty as the Lens on the Fuji X100V is razor sharp, I ordered the Fuji X100VI
@@DennisDomingoI had both and just sold my Fuji X100V and Ricoh GRIIIX so I could buy the new X100VI, The Fuji X100V is every bit as sharp as the Ricoh GRIIIX.
I imagine it had to do with him shooting at iso 160 and the shutter speed being a bit slower. The Ricoh has stabilization.
my GRIIIx indeed very sharp. loving it.
I own a Ricoh GRIII X since the model came out, and I am still amazed by the quality of the photos it produces, particulalry their sharpness. How can such a small thing produce such beautiful images ?
Wow didn’t expect the Ricoh to be that sharp. Thanks for this. Decision has been made!
I have owned different iterations of the X100. Sold the V a few weeks ago and got the Ricoh GRIII. First thing I've noticed was the sharpness difference. I'm so happy with this little camera!
I like the way you compare camera and lenses in your videos, really help people decide on which one to get. Thanks Stuart!
Great, great, great video! Hands down the best Fuji X100V v Ricoh GRIIIX comparison video on TH-cam. Thanks so much!! Subbed!!
Nice comparison of the cameras. Thank you for your time and effort that went into making the video.
As regards the softness of the images of the 100V as compared to the GR what were your JPEG settings? Perhaps you had sharpening set to zero or less in the V.
Wow - thanks for doing this comparison! 🙏
Thanks!! Finally a very good video found that helped me a lot!
Great comparison video, nice background music, nicely done mate!
Thank you my friend 🙏🏻
Thank you! I got the Fujifilm and the softness has been bothering me - good validation that I wasn't imagining it. Did you ever compare it to another x100v to ascertain if it's something wrong with yours (and maybe mine) vs that's just how it is with x100v? (I searched this video because I'm getting ready to sell my x100v and swap for the Ricoh, was searching comparisons)
Really appreciate this video 👍
I would like to see a comparison with the X100VI
Samuel Streetlife has a recent video covering this very topic 👍
That is crazy . Glad i have the GRiiiX .
Huge difference!
Great comparison, as always!
Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
so glad I own griiix!!!
I wanted the X100V, but couldn't get one so I settled for the GRIIIX, but I'm glad I did. I've been having fun shooting with it.
Great little camera! 🙌🏻
I had a chance to use the GRIIX for a few hours. I love the color saturation and how sharp the lens was. I shot most of my compositions at f2.8. I was not sure how good they looked until I had a chance to view them on my large computer monitor. The vibrant colors and lack of color noise artifacts in the images were a pleasant surprise. I did not have a Fuji to compare but the results from the GRIIIX are very impressive. The lens is really as sharp as your video is showing.
Thanx. Great video ❤️
Thanks for watching 🙌🏻
I know this is a bit old now, but one thing to check on the Fuji is making sure Setup > Power Management > Performance is set to Boost. Can make a difference in the performance of the AF. I’d be curious to know if that changed your results at all. Either way, thanks for the comparison.😊
I didn't like the X100V when I first tried it several years ago. I am on the pre-order list for the X100VI but have a Ricoh GRiii arriving today. If, as I suspect, I get very used to the Ricoh and enjoy what it gives back, then the pre-order will be cancelled. You aren't the first to highlight the softness of the X100V, and apparently, it hasn't got much better on the X100VI!! Great photos and video by the way 🙌
Ricoh is just amazing
Thanks!
Tia is an amazing model.
The Fuji appears to me quite soft compared to the Ricoh. Great video from me in New Zealand. Thank you.
I'm surprised at how much more I prefer the colours out of the Ricoh but is it just me or does it render her face a little flatter than the X100V? I'd still pick the Fuji for the weather sealing and especially because I live in a dusty part of the world but I'd love the Ricoh as a camera I could take to events and parties where I don't want to think too hard about the photos I take.
This doesn't surprise me. I have the GR3 and 3X, as well as several Fuji XT bodies/prime lenses. The 3x is insanely good (better than the 3, IMO). That said, I use my GR3 more simply because I'm more comfortable with the 28mm FOV. Thanks for the great video!
i like the red coming from richo
Can you do X100VI vs GRIIIX?
I do preordered the Fuji X100 VI. I do hope to get one, but I wish the VI is sharper than the V. PS.: I still own the Ricoh GR film camera. Still in very new condition, not that much in usea. I bought it in 2000 - 24 years ago! Hope Ricoh bring out soon a Ricoh GR IV.
Great to see you two back making videos!
Night and day for me, I thought the Fuji was missing focus but maybe just soft. I'd be of a mind to send it off and have it checked out!
Thanks! Literally picked up the a6700 yesterday so they’ll be more vids coming soon.
And yeah I’d be interested to see how the Fuji compared to another x100v - possible there’s an issue with it although it had a super low shutter count when I bought it 🤷🏻
@@StuartRodwell As an A6400 user who just changed to A6700 - I think you are going to be blown away by the difference! Can't wait to see what you think
Took some test footage last night and used slog3 for the 1st time - super impressed!!
thank you for doing this film 。I want to buy Ricoh (cheaper and good enough ) easier to carry❤❤❤
I had to pause the video cause I was dying to check out the comments. It's good to see that people were pointing out that your Fuji might be faulty. I sold my Ricoh GRIIIX a few months ago, and I regret it every single day. I really hope you can figure out what went wrong with your Fuji. It's insane how sharp the Ricoh is!
I am getting a GRIIIX. The few hours I had to test it showed results similar to the ones in this video. I thought Fuji was known for their colors! The Ricoh colors are beyond fantastic and that lens sharpness is insane. I shot almost entirely at f2.8 and image after image they are perfectly sharp and way beyond my expectations.
Great job on the video. I suspected going in that the Ricoh would be sharper. It creates super sharp images overall. I have the a6400 with really good lenses and the Ricoh is still sharper than that setup even with Sony's incredible AF. Cheers! - Brett
Thanks Brett - yeah I agree, I’ve been blown away with sharpness and quality of the Ricoh images!
Yo, great video. That F2 vs f2.8 is really making no difference at all in terms of bokeh/dof and the Ricoh is clearly sharper across the board. Considering that and the portability, the Ricoh is a no brainer for me. It doesnt have flash but it gets IBIS. Doesn't have an EVF but its way cheaper. Seems like a no brainer to me.
The sharpness has gotta be a byproduct of the IBIS.
Where is this place?
As an owner of both, your fuji is definitely back-focusing. You didn't nail the focus on the eye in any of the test shots making it look blurry. Even my old x100f with its inferior lens got way sharper images than what you showed.
the sharpness difference is because the Fuji RAF files absolutely suck when edited in Lightroom. You need to do some procedures first, like using the super resolution + enhance details feature to even extract the full performance out of the Fuji files
Got both. Ricoh gr3x is definitely sharper. However, my V does not take soft photos as yours 😊
Sony RX1R II is sharper than Ricoh GRIIIX
Where can we find the “Seaside Preset”?!
There’s a link to my presets in the description 👍🏻
Some how many peoples have the same problems with fujifilm x100 vi about slightly out of focus/ soft on the face not 100% focus. That real disappointment for a camera that expensive .
i'd consider having that fuji looked at. even my first gen x100 isn't anywhere near that soft wide open and definitely not that soft stopped down.
Yeah I’d be interested to see how the Fuji compared to another x100v - possible there’s an issue with it although it had a super low shutter count when I bought it 🤷🏻
Yes, without the anti-aliasing filter on the Ricoh, nothing in its field can touch it for sharpness. Still no mention or credit for your daughters modelling?
Very surprised with the sharpness of the Ricoh. Will you consider re-doing this comparision with the X100VI? 🤓
Absolutely ….if Fuji would care to send me one 😂
@@StuartRodwell Fingers crossed. I’m contemplating ordering the VI as we speak. Looking at trading in a bunch of old Sony stuff… it’s so painful, the little amount of money you get for it, I’m tempted to just keep it all! Haha
Ricoh, the best !
Segun Boogie la Ricoh es buenísima salvo el flash, y el polvo que se introduce en ella con el tiempo
Not that sad anymore for not getting an Fuji x100v... sad for getting the GRIIIX and not the GRIII :|
Still like Fuji colours more
The Fuji X100v its about shooting experience.
So it’s February 2024 and am confused whether to get Richo gr3 or wait for gr4 to come!! Any suggestions for me?
Missed your videos, seems like you took a break of few months... :)
Yeah been struggling to find the time! More
videos in the pipeline though 👍🏻
I would borrow someone else's Fuji x100v and test it again the ricoh just to make sure regarding the sharpness
Something is broken down in that Fuji or what?!😱 or focus system out of tune etc
Honestly shocked by the results.
Something definitely seems off about that fuji being that soft.
Yeah I’d be interested to see how the Fuji compared to another x100v - possible there’s an issue with it although it had a super low shutter count when I bought it 🤷🏻
Ricoh is so sharp they had to make a soft version for 2024 lol
I had both and just sold my Fuji X100V and Ricoh GRIIIX, the Fuji X100V is every bit as sharp as the GRIIIX, did you buy the Fuji second hand, it is faulty as the Lens on the Fuji X100V is razor sharp, I ordered the Fuji X100VI
Promo-SM 😚
the softness is not common.... I have tack sharp pictures at f2. something is wrong with your x100v
it looks like the fuji never got focus
both cameras are pretty useless: Fuji has a flawed AF ( sees faces where there are none) / MF has no hyperfocal distance scale vs Ricoh sucks in dust every time you switch on the camera and the lens extends ( also costs time to get ready to shoot ) + BAD AF + NO Flash ( gave up on both Q3 is much better )
Your x100v is a dud.
Why did you only show the tests on the lowest apertures? And on one example you said you stopped down the fuji but the data onscreen says F2. Useless
