    Karnov ( Karunofu? ) is a 1987 platform arcade game.It is the debut of Data East's mascot of the same name. After Data East became defunct due to bankruptcy in 2003, Paon, a company comprising former Data East staff, acquired the rights to Karnov, along with multiple other Data East games.In the game, players take control of the title character Jinborov Karnovski , or "Karnov" for short. Karnov is a strongman popularly illustrated as being from an unspecified part of the Soviet Union's Central Asian republic as shown
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    on the original arcade flyer and again in Karnov's Revenge.As Data East's mascot, the title character was reintroduced in many other Data East games, including Bad Dudes Vs. Dragon Ninja in which he played a boss in the first level. Karnov later appeared in the 1994 Neo-Geo game Karnov's Revenge. This game, also known as Fighter's History Dynamite, is not a sequel to the original Karnov, but to Fighter's History, a competitive one-on-one fighter in which Karnov was the final boss.The game puts the bulging-muscled,
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    fire-breathing, ex-circus strongman east-Russian hero on a quest through nine different levels to search for treasures.However, between him and the treasures were several horrendous monsters, including sword-wielding monks, dinosaurs, djinn, foot hopping giant fish and ostrich-riding skeleton warriors.Players can make Karnov walk, jump and shoot his way through these levels and find special items that will help him on his way. He also can collect red orbs with which he can upgrade up to three fireballs at a time. Each level.

    I had this when I was a kid in the 80’s. I spent the night over at my friends house and me, him and his older brother stayed up all night taking turns to beat this game. It felt like a real accomplishment despite the lackluster ending.

    So weird to watch games that I spent countless hours playing (not to mention buckets of quarters at the bowling alley) defeated with such precision. Why couldn't I do that when I was 12...

    • @HeroesofXanaduSloth
      @HeroesofXanaduSloth  7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Well, a lot of practice was involve. I was also precise like you said and very careful. To do a no hit run of the game, i really recommend moving slower instead of faster.

      Thats the thing about these classic platformers whether arcade or console, it was all about the trial and error in those days therefore making you play the entire game until you memorized it. Then show off to your friends like youre some gaming god lol. Thats why i love the classics. They were a real challenge.

    Entering and exiting on a lightning bolt, that's awesome.
    I'll never ceased to be amazed by the ego of villains. They think they have the levels planned out to defeat any hero coming by, but never listens to the underling suggesting a few more of those bad guys that make Karnov stop walking and fight them and therefore run out of time.

    This was one of the best games in my opinion from an arcade to NES. The graphics, the colors and the final boss at the end did it for me.

      Shawn Williams This game reminds me of a night in 1988/1989 because after we ate we headed out to Toys R Us and bought NES Karnov, then we went home and played it. Karnov was pretty imaginitive, varied, and fun. The settings were seemingly ancient, mythical, ruin-like, and remote, and I could never quite put my finger on what civilization(s) the game was mimicking. The variety of levels and HUGE amount of secrets gave it major replay value. The alternate paths were very rare in games of the time. Yes, the ending blew, but how awesome is it now to laugh at it?!

      yeah it would have been nice to see Karnov's face at the end of the game smiling or something but, awesome game.

      +Shawn Williams This game is one of the several games mybrohters and I got that was immediately disappointing and then over the years became on of the favorite titles of my brother's and I. It's just SO weird. even now, as an adult who knows about Japan and games in general, it's still possibly the weirdest game of all time. Where other games were weird until you found out the "story" behind them (and translation, half hearted localization, unusual japanese culture) Karnov stayed weird.

      +Heroes of Xanadu - Sloth The Japanese version has a religious heavy storyline, Nintendo of America likely had a hand in why the ending was axed. Basically God sent Karnov down to earth to defeat evil to redeem his soul.

      +Bloodreign1 I will try that translated rom of the japanese version. Remind me of Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti. This game never made it to america, probably because of all the religious theme involved. Thanks you for the info Bloodreign.

    I dont understand why the end was cutted in the non japan version. On se démène pour finir le jeu afin de voir comment ça se termine et on tombe sur ÇA! Quelle déception, quand même!
    No entendiendo porqué, en la version de japon, hay 3 diferentes escenas cuando el juego se termina, dependiante de muchas cosas durante el juego, y en este version, hay nada

      SHUPIRATE1991 "Thank you for the kind words" much obliged. Playing the game has Karnov and learning some of the secrets feature in the game was a fun experience.
