Creepy Bad Endings # 104

- Bad endings. I don't know about anyone else, but they terrify me. Just when the hero(es) thought everything was finally right, just when it looked like peace had finally returned to the world, something happens that, at best, creates a bittersweet victory and, at worst, spoils everything and the enemies win, despite everything that happened throughout your adventure. Bad endings don't give you any second chances, you screwed things up for everyone and you must pay dearly...
Creepy Bad Endings # 108 covers the sequel book: • Creepy Bad Endings # 108

Honestly, I prefer a Sonic who cares about the situation than a Sonic who doesn't. I can name a few examples where Sonic knows how important the stakes are at saving the world, and I can name a few examples where it wasn't the case because of his apathy. An apathetic Sonic is not who I want in my stories.
videogames for kids are pretty run of the mill, but then adventure books for kids are like "You get stabbed and all your guts fall out of your stomach and then they explode and your brain bursts out of your skull, the end"
It's weird how horrifying these endings are if you think about them for awile
Yeah it let's your imagination to most of the work
Mostly the clone one. That shits dark
@@mattgroening8872 to me the laser cannon was the darkest. Perfectly encapsulated the cruelty of Eggman
Y'know, if I had a nickel for every time Sonic died in an official work, I'd have three nickels.
*_Strange, isn't it?_*
GRRRRRRRRR
Three?
@@evanchismark3092 This, 06, and IDW Issue 56.
And the new game Who Murdered Sonic the Hedgehog
@@SocksFCGameArchives Didn't _actually_ die, doesn't count.
I was skeptical at the beginning, I thought this was going to some sort of joke but as the video progresses I just got more and more interested in it. I paused at times cuz I wanted to read everything the book said, the animations helped to illustrate just how impactful this endings can be. This was such an unique CBE and I really would like to see what the sequels have to offer
Part of why these choose your own adventure books always fascinated me as a kid...they could get super dark. I distinctly remember one ending from one of the original choose your own adventure series where you get snowed in and trapped in a cave. At that point your group resorts to cannibalism before starving anyway and you get a "game over".
EDIT: The series was literally called choose your own adventure, but I have no idea which one it was.
i think it was called the donner party
@@k.m.m.a81 CARLOOOOOS
Holy sh**t 😱
Reminds me of one I found that literally had you getting your mouth sealed shut with wax while you tried to scream.
Yeah, that may just be a ripoff.
😱
I can't believe they put an existential crisis ending in a sonic "game."
1st it’s “The Murder of Sonic The Hedgehog” now it’s this “choose your own adventure” book I’m just hearing about? Man, 2 days of interesting Sonic content is great. I’d love to see you cover the sequel books for this, it looks fun.
Both involve sonic dieing in some way at some point. Damn.
I find it funny how at 5:24 it says the rabbit and rat are shrieking in terror because they are on a death conveyor belt, but in the picture they all look so happy and are smiling 😅
Damn, yknow I was expecting this episode to be really silly, but man did I get really invested! Honestly if you can find more text-based bad endings, that’d be really cool!
I think what really sells the creep factor is that you have to use your imagination to get the full picture, so they’re written with a decent amount of detail
4:04 “No one mourns the dead in a video game.”

That's what I thought too! Also Bobby from Paper Mario
My understanding of the explosion in the second bad ending is that not only has the fake sonics convinced the real sonic that he's not sonic, but also sonic convinced one of the fake sonics that he's the real sonic.
But since the fake sonic isn't the real sonic, he stands no chance against Robotnik, who blows it up! Kaboom!
Or better yet, fake Sonic actually starts to cause mayhem on Robotnik's orders
@@Redhead-pf8le i know, 9 Months ago, but imagine he frees the other sonics
Whenever Git posts an April Fools video, it doesn’t matter if it’s a joke or not, it’s still di molte bene.
To be honest, I'd definitely love to see you cover the stories and endings for the rest of the Gamebooks. I remember _Zone Rangers_ (the second one) being particularly good!
Seconded. I've just found out about these gamebooks and I'd love to see more of them.
(side note: the only other gamebook I can recall seeing before is Zebes Invasion Order (a japan-exclusive Metroid one), and that one was through the internet too)
MIGHTY MORPHIN ZONE RANGERS
I'd love to see the Steve Jackson's Sorcery! games too. They were eventually adapted to hybrid video game/gamebooks.
I absolutely *love* how you handled this April Fool's upload. I've never thought you'd cover an adventure book but you managed to do it very well. The extra bit of animations for each ending also added to the experience. I'd absolutely love to see the sequels if you decide to go through with them!
The writing reminds me a lot to a certain degree the Sonic British comics.
Robotinik was no stranger to using violence on those and having characters drop dead on a certain degree was always expected.
The U.S. comic was like that too.
Joke video or not, love the idea behind the video. I've always been fascinated by non-video game adaptations of video games, especially Sonic. Learning there was a whole line of Choose Your Own Adventure books with Sonic, with drawings included, is super cool.
The editing in this video was top notch as well. It really helps visualize how gruesome some of these endings can be.
9:36 I know the feeling. It's when you make Baba push the words out of "Baba is You" sentence and it's done in a way that there's no alternate character to take control of, so you lose your access through the 4th wall and Baba just stands there... incapable of doing anything...
Ben's Comments:
Ah, I see you're a man/woman/(insert some other gender here) of culture too!
I was expecting this to be a joke episode, definitely wasn’t expecting it to get serious, but I enjoyed learning about choose your own adventure books, though I’ve only read one with the whole class when I was a middle school student, and I got the best ending! And it would be great if you covered the sequel books as well
the joke is that it's a book, not a game, probably
I really appreciate the editing. The visuals and music really emphasize just how creepy these endings are when you stop and imagine them.
I've always loved a gamebook. This was great, would definitely love to see the sequels too! These things are getting increasingly hard to find in secondhand bookshops, videos like this help stop them becoming lost to time.
Mom wake up, new Creepy Bad Endings has been posted.
Seriously though git, never stop making these.
Sonic has been dying an bunch recently, poor dude lol
(Also, 6:57 is almost uncannyly similar to what happens with Sonic in the Murder of Sonic game)
Maybe that inspired it, are maybe it was just a lucky coincidence
sonic.exe _wishes_ it could be half as frightening or emotional as this adventure book
Quietus from 999 really does fit with every creepy death scene
So that's what the OST is called? I didn't know and just referred to it as the 999 bad ending music.
Can we take a moment to apreciate Git took the time to animate the bad endings from a book and they really look fucking creepy indeed. Thats dedication!
I've always liked "choose your own adventure" books, starting with the Goosebumps series.
Imagine my surprise when you shown me there were Sonic gamebooks with RPG-elements (stat and inventory & all). I would love to try these out on my own at some point.
10:11 honestly the section about robot copies reminded me of one of the endings in Shadow the hedgehog where he believes he is just one of the robot copies and not himself. It isnt some groundbreaking never done before storyline but still.
8:49 If you are wondering, that actually does say Section 25 if you lose a life
10:03
I think that explosion in the distance means the Sonic that escaped the room was destroyed. So not only did Sonic lost faith in himself being real, but the Sonic that beat him in a race got destroyed shortly after the loss, just to add salt to injury.
The reason why the sound was heard from a distance is because, well, Sonic is super fast. So he probably got very far away from the room before being destroyed.
Yeah, it was either that or Eggman's death robot starting to destroy things, and Sonic will not do anything because he's disillusioned.
I interpreted this a little differently. Maybe one of the robot Sonics was the one that got the keycard and the real Sonic was left behind. That's explosion in the distance could be Sonic being killed offscreen. Sonic's adventure is over because he's dead.
When I was about 7-8, I got an adventure book like this one. I don't remember what it was called, but it was dark as all hell and scared the crap out of me. Some endings I distinctly remember:
Being trapped in a burning city and dying of smoke inhalation
Getting trapped in a cave with an old man and no supplies
Falling down a trap door to your death
Fleeing into a forest without realizing it's notorious for people entering never being found (your character and her partner are both extremely tired at this point)
Another ending I remember is a fairly neutral one, where you leave the city early and avoid all conflict in the book. You get a letter from the police reassuring you that you made the sensible and correct choice.
I think i know this story.
@@elizabethramirezthezenshii9691 Really?
I think we all know what will happen in that cave without recourses.
We getting all the dark sonic stories this April Fools, The Murder of Sonic and now this LOL. Great video, always love seeing new content. :)
I honestly wish there was more of these books
they actually make you decide to keep you on your toes instead of just reading hundreds of pages one by one
I gotta say, the editing in this video is amazing. Props to you, Whoisthisgit!
Also, here's the way of how I would relate the (bad) endings to the seven deadly sins.
(spoilers for the endings!)
(6:35) 1st Bad Ending: Sloth = You advise Sonic to do nothing and in return you BOTH get punished for it, taken away to your inevitable fates. I suppose the *sloths* can't truly have a peaceful day.
(9:06) 2nd Bad Ending: Envy = Sonic gets jealous of all of the copies that he's seen, realising that he can't compare to them and no longer sees himself as a hero that can save everyone anymore. And so he sits there in *envious* silence that not even an explosion can drown out.
(11:33) 3rd Bad Ending: Wrath = Sonic helplessly watches the entirety of Green Hill Zone and all his friends get obliterated and destroyed by the cruelty of the Technobot as it goes off into the distance to reap further havoc. It seems Mobius has truly felt Eggman's *wrath.*
(13:36) 4th Bad Ending: Greed = Sonic gets too overconfident and goes for an aggressive approach which ends up being detrimental to him. A painful/lose-lose detriment on top of that. Don't fall for *greed's* tempations as it'll only stab you in the back.
(15:07) 5th Bad Ending: Gluttony = Sonic calls upon an aerobot to assist in his quest... only to have it be a platform to witness all of the Technobot's destruction. A *gluttonous* win for Eggman indeed but I suppose that the aerobot gets to have a share of the win through their emotionless facade.
(16:12) 6th Bad Ending: Lust = Sonic attempts to break a presumptuous game world boundary by producing a Game Gear console... only for it to remain useless. Sorry Sonic, but it seems you'll have to watch the massacre you created through your failure unfold. *Lusting* for peace can only get you so far.
(17:44) 7th Bad Ending: Pride = While Sonic managed to save his friends and Green Hill Zone, he couldn't save himself in the end. Despite that, he probably felt a sense of *pride* even though his life was about to end.
And that's all of them! I was a bit unsure of where Gluttony, Lust and Pride would go but I think this is the best order.
P.S. sorry for the lengthy comment.
good
@@neocuresunshine1780 thank you
Why didn't anyone think to use this book as the story basis for an actual video game?
What an awesome deep cut! Even the official wiki doesn’t have much info on these.
Wait a second... Are you telling me that Robotnik tried doing the Rumbling almost 30 years before Eren?
This video made me imagine a whole game based on this choose your own adventure book, especially the final boss fight against the Platinum robot!
I wish someone makes an amazing fangame (preferably side scroller) based on this book (with the branching paths included)!
Nice touch with the Zero Escape music for the bad endings
Now that's a clever April Fools episode.
Oh ABSOLUTELY do the other six books! I have so many memories of these as a kid, like befriending Catcher (not a Grabber, that'd be rude) in the Zone Zapper and navigating the only winning path through Theme Park Panic! If I remember correctly, Zone Rangers (book 2) was the most brutal for the sheer number of bad endings.
Better yet: Could he do the Nintendo Adventure Books?
5:20 I think it's like that just so children aren't immediately frightened or unnerved by the page picture itself.
This is mainly why Sonic tends to have a similar expression throughout the book.
I had no idea these books existed, I would love to see an point'n click or similar styled game potraying these stories
I like your animated snippets, you get the rhythm and beat just right, a real sense for choreography!
Dungeons and Hedgehogs. I read a lot of CYOA books as a kid but none were this complicated. The Transformers books had some pretty bleak endings IIRC, like descriptions of Autobots being torn apart, getting their minds erased or their base exploding. Maybe whoever wrote this book should write the plots for more Sonic games.
Castles and Critters?
"Nobody mourns the dead in a video game."
Danganronpa would like to have a word with you lol
Danganronpa It doesn't count since a Spoiler everyone is dead.
5:23
Sonic's friends in a deadly situation
Sonic: 😏
Sonic's run of Botman is interrupted
Sonic: 😨
12:17 he was always portrayed as comical but I think there was a balance earlier (still funny but will still blow up the moon and threaten to blow up the Earth next if his demands aren't met)
OH RIGHT. THESE THINGS. yeah, they get horrifying as a rule. I had some CLUB PEIGUIN ones that managed to be creepy.
Banned in 5 seconds flat!
This is the most “April Fools” sounding thing in the video: 0:51
The titles I'm giving these endings, in order of appearance, are:
- Fourth-Wall Ending
- Faker Ending
- Hill Ending
- Cocky Hero Ending
- Coward Hero Ending
- Unprepared Hero Ending
- Sacrifice Ending
- Good Ending
Huh. That was actually a rather fun and interesting idea to fit into your creepy bad end videos. I'd definitely like to see you cover more like these if possible.
It's crazy you mention some visual novels in a video about a sonic themed choose your own adventure book the day after a sonic themed visual novel released.
wow, i had these books as a kid as I was a massive sonic fan. It's so cool to see them relived, I haven't thought about them in ages but they definitely left an impression on me and reading some of the prose definitely reminded me of the spooky endings! Thanks for this video!
There's *more* of these??? Oh *please* yes cover some of them! This was so fascinating and entertaining! And the animations really added to everything too, this might be one of my favorite videos of yours.
Absolutely cover the gamebooks, this is the breath of fresh air the series needed
When I was a teenager I had a few Super Mario Bros. "choose your own adventure" books. They were a lot like the Sonic ones but the Gamer Over pages weren't quite as dark. I guess it would depend more on your POV or preference for dark humor. Like one of the books has Luigi searching underground for Wendy O. Koopa, whom Bowser thinks may be kidnapped, and there are bad endings like Luigi being thrown into boiling hot water and never coming back up and one of the Koopas gives him a three for his dive. Another has him find Wendy who is making a disgusting-smelling surprise birthday cake for Bowser and is furious at Luigi for interrupting her. She then fires a candy-ring at his head and the last thing he says is, "At least I don't have to taste the cake."
When the first bad ending started up, I expected whoigi's white text to pop up on screen summarizing the events any second now. Then I realized that the book text _was_ the text to read and whoigi was pulling illustration duty instead. This inversion of the channel's presentation format adds this gravitas to these story scenes.
6:53, to quote Clement - you're a silly blue hedgehog fighting robots, freeing animals from a fat, obese man who has a big ol' smile on him.
This here is what Robotnik can do...like...f***.
8:34, geepers...and I thought Shadow the Hedgehog had to deal with that in his game in the neutral ending. I guess this is where they got that idea from. Geez..
All these endings scream fatal. I thought this was a kid's book but then again, the stuff you can write back in the day. Nice. Then again, you thought Sonic 06 and Shadow The Hedgehog was dark, this makes those 2 look like the Get-along-gang.
20:36, please do so. It's intriguing to see how much stuff you can do in these.
So this book is like "Hey kids! Do you want to see how it feels like to be Sonic the Hedgehog?" Or "Hey Kids! Do you want to take control of Sonic's Adventure and defeat Dr. Robotnik?"
I feel like if it was the classic games I’d say yes bc they weren’t that complicated
This. Was. GOD TIER.
DO MORE OF THESE, DANGIT. DO MORE. AAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHH.
9:32: Eventually, Sonic stopped thinking.
12:52 you'll be fine zap cannon only has 50% accuracy which is basically 0.
This was surprisingly fun, a nice change of pace. I’d love to see more of these!
i am not kidding. this felt like a review of gauntlet what with the multiple exits, alternate events and routes, lethal dead ends and different endings. and both media have equally disturbing moments that are bound to creep out the player/reader
Oh I remember goosebumps choose your own adventure books, and I think one of the endings the main character gets trapped in a fridge and suffocates
6:35 room ending- gluttony, stayed around in the room much longer rather than leaving there
9:07 identity ending- envy, gaining an inferiority complex towards clone versions of yourself
11:34 despair ending- greed, letting other people die in order to save yourself
13:38 cannon ending- pride, gets overconfident and pays the price for it
15:07 aerobot ending- lust, picking what looks like easiest and quickest option
16:13 gear ending- sloth, never bothered to pick any items earlier and ends with doing nothing
17:45 cliff ending- wrath, refused to face your greatest fears and leads to facing his greatest demise
no way you actually tried connecting these to the deadly sins like git joked in the beginning 💀
I used to read one of these but it was Zelda: Oracle of Ages. And it was one I tried to use as a strategy guide when I was a kid.
IDW and Archie Sonic's Eggman is quite villainous and terrifying and formidable as well. He's morally compromised and beyond redemption at some points in both comic franchises. Metal Virus Saga for example and even Starline courtesy of Ian Flynn. It shows how twisted Eggman really is or could have been in the games, but I guess everything is relegated to a lite cheery eyed shonen now. Regardless of whether you like Metal Virus Saga or Starline or this iteration of Eggman lol. Eggman was competent as all hell.
Though these Choose Your Adventure stuff is interesting and intriguing. It could be less hitting and effective for me because I don't make gaming my one and only identity. Not to disparage nerds and stuff, but seriously. Silent Hill and Siren and Soma and Prey and Observer and hell even Killzone are infinitely more terrifying because they're all mostly grounded or relatable in some sense except Killzone especially their given individual music and atmosphere. There's no music or sound design with Choose Your Adventure beyond whatever contrived animation and sound you give. I will however admit the animation is good, but sometimes imaginary and imagining doesn't suffice. It has to be and look and feel real via the screen and not just mental components and imagery in your head. It has to be burned into your retina.
Pre-reboot Archie Eggman is quite possibly the absolute darkest and most evil version of the character ever written. Dear GOD, he was probably the inspiration for Ch’rell.
Honestly, these "CYOA" books needs to be digitalize into an interactive PC game. I saw someone did it with that Japanese only Metroid CYOA book into a browser game, completely translated.
even after more than a decade his videos are still very similar, some people should really try being like this guy
It was a funny joke, that evolved into a good CBE, now i want a sequel
If you're going to look up game-book based ones, you're going to have a lot of material, since there were ones for Mario and Zelda and Lemmings(Of all things). Probably far more besides; these are just off the top of my head.
Would like to see adventure books in the future too.
Fantastic video! I didn't know they made CYOA books featuring Sonic. Man, all the endings are pretty bleak (the last one where Sonic manages to save the day but dies, I thought Sonic was going to die from the impact alone), but the second ones hits hard. To have Sonic of all people have an identity crisis, to a point of disbelieving his own self and leaving him like a hollow shell...
Also, kudos on your editing work, each of your little animations for the endings are neat and really make you realise how awful things get in these endings. I'd love to see another video from you talking about the others books.
I definitely wouldn't mind seeing some more of these Git. There's an old one I read back in primary school. All I can remember about it is you could summon some kind of tiger once per book in fights, you could get yourself isolated and starve to death at one point in a falling platform puzzle, and if you tap into anything but the lowest frequency of power at the end you end up getting a bad ending as the bad guy takes the orb and you get your will taken away from you.
There's also an ancient microsoft game where you could die in quicksand at the beach or get ensnared in some kind of goo if you went the wrong way around a plant, but that's so ancient and obscure I doubt anyone even remembers it exists now. Would be a real blast from the past if someone dug it up and did a video on it. (Good luck finding it unless you played it and have a more vivid recollection than I do; even if you do, it is definitely abandonware now.)
Man from Australia here. I had a copy of Metal City Mayhem as a teenager (of course it was my dad who got it for me). But eventually it got all worn out and fell apart, from overuse. 😂
I would certainly watch a video about the rest of the gamebook series, if you decide to make one. Cheers for this video as well!
Ah, yes. The seven deadly sins:
1. Fourth Wall Breaking
2. Existential Crisis
3. Literally The End Of Mobius (probably)
4. I had a joke for this one but I forgor
5. Bat "Miles" Glider
6. Confusion At The Last Minute
7. Becoming A Pancake
Wait?! If you get a bad ending, then you can’t just start over from the beginning?
AYOOOO! Don't see people talking about the Adventure Gamebooks very often! You gotta talk about the other Sonic ones and the Mario ones too!
Feels like more like a Tabletop Game than an actual book to be honest. Which is cool but still.
I highly recommend the bad endings of the Myst games, particularly 1 and 2. There's something extremely unsettling and claustrophobic about them.
Please please please continue with the sonic books, it was super interesting to not only learn of it’s existence, but to have your input on it as well! 👍🏼
Ah yes, the Sonic Game Books.
I'm not familiar with this game book, but I own a copy of the second one in the series, "Zone Rangers".
These choose your own adventure books are like when the plot summary for a video game on Wikipedia “may be too long or excessively detailed”
Fr tho it’s pretty cool just how detailed they make the imagery through text, making it so you really have an exact image of what you’re reading in your head 🌟
"Nobody mourns the dead in a videogame"
The author never predicted Call of Duty
or mgs3 for that matter. hell even in peace walker snake is STILL grieving over the boss until the end where he finally rose up from the shadow of her legacy
Tails had died in a bad ending just a few months ago.
Im really glad to see your channel getting more views. You are an OG and one of the best gaming youtubers. Ty big dawg from America
the thought of being trapped in sonic’s world is… what
Can any April Fools video ever truly beat the perfection that is Dancing Kermit
I find it funny how both Git and Sega want to see Sonic dead this year-
We have The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog the game, and this video of git going through all the bad endings of a Sonic choose your own adventure book.
Also, I wanna see git cover more of these adventure books in the future! Especially a Zelda one if there is one!
The animations did add a nice charm to the video, NGL, I won't mind git doing some more animation in future videos.
Well, this brings back memories of that one Goosebumps book that I had read during my childhood, which I think was one of those so-called "Choose Tour Adventure" style books, where you, the reader, had to turn to certain pages in response to different decisions or circumstances.
God, I really hope someone's scanned these books online. I want to read these.
Holy cow, don’t know why I had this book but I loved it
Ironically sonic had been murdered ..
genuinely the most interesting video i've seen, keep it up
The first bad ending is sloth. Your laziness to do anything is what got Sonic presumably killed.
The second bad ending is pride. The realisation that he might not the be the original version of himself made him lose all will to continue. If he is not Sonic, then what is he?
The third bad ending is greed. Sonic valued his life too much that he didn't think of the consequences of simply dodging the bot instead of attacking it.
The fourth bad ending is wrath. Sonic was too blinded by rage to think of the consequences of attacking the weapon.
I'm going to stretch the fifth bad ending a bit and say gluttony. Gluttony represents the overconsumption of food, but for the sake of the story, let's just simplify it to overuse. So by overusing the amount of robotics by summoning more robots, Sonic lost what's most important, nature. Because why not throw an enviromental message in there?
The sixth bad ending can be considered lust. Sonic was so enamoured with his grand invention that he didn't realise how it was going to work.
The seventh ending is envy. Another stretch, but let's say Sonic got a lot of envy when he received so much control that he ended up getting himself killed.
That, or I am completely insane and have no idea what I am talking about.
The Sally suffocating deal is also lust.
Hum
Never knew these books existed. I'd love you to cover more about them in the future.
I remember reading several Choose Your Own Adventure books in the school library, including two Nintendo Adventure books featuring Mario and Zelda. I'd like to see you cover the rest of the Sonic books and the Mario and Zelda ones someday! Also, your animation is good!
Bro the DK64 music gave me vietnam flashbacks
20:36 I think you should make more videos about gamebooks, including non-Sonic ones.
