    You are not alone in trying to avoid the deals at Costco! I once went, and promised to get my husband bread and Kraft dinner. I totally forgot, but came home with a rotisserie chicken, pineapple, and yoga pants. In my defense, they were great yoga pants and lasted years.

    I am becoming obsessed with your videos since I found you at random last week. I'm not Jewish but I'm absolutely loving learning about Judaism from you. Your shopping tips are also useful I was just in the grocery store a few days ago checking every piece of produce we got. I have never thought about bugs while shopping but I found so many while shopping it was crazy. I will never shop without looking at it closely again so thank you for putting that idea in my head. 🥰

    Oxyclean really does work wonders. When I was in culinary school, I wore chef whites to class and it wasn't unusual to come home with stains from blood, wine, veg, or chocolate on my aprons or chef coat. Other students used bleach on their jackets and that worked for a bit, but their stuff would yellow over time. I used oxyclean. Just followed the instructions on the back of the box. It worked like a charm. My clothes were pristine and my teachers started asking how I kept my coats and aprons so white. They thought I was getting them dry cleaned!

    • @frumitup
      @frumitup  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      wooowwwww thank you for that tip!
      did you have a secret to make sure your whites stayed white? did you leave it a certain amount of time in a certain amount of water or temperature of the water? i would love to know your secret!

    • @somethingelse4204
      @somethingelse4204 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@frumitup I just followed the instructions on the box. They had options for a pre-soak if the stain was really bad.
      For the presoak - I'd put my chef whites in a bucket and add a scoop or so of the detergent, whatever the box said. I used cold water, or warm water, or hot water. It all worked. Let it sit for a couple of hours or overnight.
      Otherwise, you just add the oxyclean up to the appropriate line on the scoop and dump it in with your regular wash. It takes stains out of colored cloth and brightened everything. Love the stuff.

      I want to go shopping at Costco with her! I'm not much of a shopper, but such enthusiasm and joy it's contagious! And I'm in LOVE with Oxyclean ever since I discovered it. Hot water makes a huge difference -- that's the Borax in it -- but wow. My roommate's a fat slob (I'm not being unkind here: he's got a big belly and loves eating on the couch which means lots of stains on his shirts) and Oxyclean gets rid of everything! No checking, no spraying, just toss some in the wash and everything, whites and colours, comes out perfectly clean. A miracle.

      I do accept it works great on the close but unfortunately I'm allergic to it

    • @dragondancer1814
      @dragondancer1814 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can vouch for the OxyClean too! My husband was in a bad car accident nearly 17 years ago-he was driving to work during a tropical storm, spun out when he hydroplaned, and a dump truck hit his car on the driver’s side. He actually walked away from that, but he was pretty bloodied and banged up, and the ER staff thought his formerly-white security shirt was a write-off due to the blood from the airbag burns and the driver’s side window exploding in his face. I took one look at it and said, “I can fix this!” After two 12-hour soaks in cold water and OxyClean, you would never know that shirt was such a mess!

The scent boosters remove embarrassing odors from her clothing. I also have a 7 yo niece who stays with me when my sister works night shifts at the post office. I wash her bedding with the scent boosters , she tells me how much she like the smell of her bedding

      I love fried tofu that is flavored with terriyaki. To make you cut up slices that are finger long by 1/4 inch thick by 1 inch wide and soak firm tofu for about 1/2-1 hour then place on paper towel to dry. Fry each piece together in about 1 inch of avocado oil until firm and slightly golden.
      You can make ramen soups and slip a couple in the soup or stir fries with fresh vegetables and ginger.
      So happy to find your page and love all the time you put in to it! Shalom, K

    I really enjoyed your tips on storing produce. I had no idea about wrapping the celery in foil. I will certainly try that since my celery always goes bad quickly. I am not Jewish but I always look for kosher products because I have a dairy allergy, and because I am allergic to wheat and a few other grains, I always read the ingredients list. You always see so calm and happy, and it’s a joy to watch your videos.

    I make a pie with black walnuts (we have trees everywhere), I use a pecan pie recipe. I substitute the pecan amount with 1/4 black walnut and 3/4 rolled oats (not quick oats) as black walnuts are very strongly flavored. It is very popular at our churches chicken BBQs .

    Another video packed with information! I went to a discount store today since it was their last day for 15% off everything. They have discontinued, overruns, etc. It's an opportunity to buy some of the less common items, for example, from other countries. But I make sure each has a kosher hechster of some kind, especially since many of the brands were unfamiliar. It's a great way to assure quality and safety.
    Your daughters are such wonderful helpers! Their affection for each other is indeed heartwarming.
    I applaud your making the effort to prepare delicious home cooked food for your family, with the busy schedule that you have.

And I ccannot tell you how many strawberries have gone into the garbage because they rotted within a few days. I also watched the video where you sifted prepackaged cake mix and found a bug. I am not Jewish so I have no dietary restrictions but I do not include insects in my diet either. I took food safety for granted but no more. You can be sure I will be sifting brownie mix and flour for the rest of my life. I love your videos and appreciate learning about your culture. So many cleaners can be replaced by a spray bottle with dish soap diluted with water, about 1/10. Adding vinegar to it can boost it. I like oxyclean and baking soda for separate situations. Soda for softening and oxyclean to whiten. Oxy also works well to clean outside like porches and outdoor furniture. I avoid fabric softeners because they leave a film on the fabric and before you know it towels lose their absorbency. If I am worried about static cling, the answer is to deeply moisturize your skin. I enjoy watching you. My dad's parents are from the old country and they were close to Mennonite. Mum was very conservative holiness. So modesty was important but the reason why was different. I have a hard time explaining its value bc all i heard was that it was safer. Listening to you I get a deeper meaning which is easier to explain to the next generation.
    Now if i can find the energy to repack my Costco haul at the end of my shopping, i will know my fitness level has improved a few levels. Thank you. may every blessing be yours l.

One small suggestion for all, when wrapping food for storage or cooking food in aluminum foil, please use parchment and then foil. Thank you for this channel, I am now a subscriber. Love to all.

    I grew up in a household that wasn’t very strict about hechshers for foods that weren’t meat. My parents have since gotten stricter as my brothers and I have gotten older (one of my brothers has become orthodox and only eats kosher). I’ve been really trying to only buy foods for myself that are either certified kosher or vegan (both is even better). I don’t eat meat or fish so that does make things easier but it is something that still takes effort. I also don’t eat gelatin, so that is something I have to check in every candy even if it’s labeled kosher

    My kids don't only eat seaweed snacks, but they'll happily nosh on plain nori. My approach to rationing tofu is that instead of hiding it, they're allowed to pick it out of the food, but they don't get seconds unless they eat the veggies too.

    For the veggies at Costco, I always check the expiration date on the boxes and more often than not, the boxes at the bottom are the new arrivals with the furthest expiration dates so I'm never shy to move the boxes from the top and dive in below 😂 or take from the bottom boxes when open display 👍

    I just found your videos a couple of days ago, I'm not Jewish so please don't hold that against me, but I love watching and learning about other cultures through their home life. Loving your enthusiasm for shopping, however: girl you are driving my OCD crazy by putting your raw meat and your cleaning items on top of other products, that is definitely a recipe for disaster just waiting to happen! Especially coming from a sous chef/chef background for 40+ years. I must say I'm enjoying learning all about your customs! Happy blessings to you! :)

    You have the sweetest laugh. I press my tofu, cut it in cubes, sometimes marinate it (soy sauce, ginger, garlic), then drain the cubes, toss in a mixture of garlic powder, onion powder, nutritional yeast, salt, pepper and cornstarch. I then airfry the cubes for 8 minutes, toss and airfry another 8 minutes. Crispy and delicious! You can toss them into a vegetable stir fry at the last minute to keep them crisp.

    Hi Sara! I am slowly but surely going through the old episodes that I haven’t seen yet and I love this one!
    My Costco has a praline pecan jar, similar to the pecan pie topping thing you found. I make a trail mix for a bit of interesting sweetness with them. Add some raisins, peanuts, granola clusters and boom! Delicious.
    I have found that the Kirkland batteries don’t last quite as long as the name brand ones, so make sure to watch the expiration date on them.
    The Kirkland shampoo & conditioner is so amazing! I have heard it is the same as the salon brand Pureology. I have used it for years and love it.
    We try to do a meatless dinner once a week and my boys don’t care for tofu. So I have decided to not fight it. I make a selection of veggie dishes and sides and that’s dinner. Sometimes I do a “snacks for dinner” board, which my boys absolutely love. It is also a great way to clear out the odds and ends of the fridge. I cut up fruit, cheese, crackers, nuts, some lunch meat, veggie sticks like carrots or celery, and serve with some bread. My family LOVES this. I know you don’t mix meat with dairy but I’m sure you could do something similar on those days when cooking just doesn’t sound like a great idea. 😂 Do you have those days? I know I do.
    I have also found that drinks and produce is always much better priced at Costco my kiddos eat a ton of fruit.
    I never thought I would need a second fridge until I had children and saw how many drinks we go through. And frozen waffles! Now I am the proud owner of 2 refrigerators and a deep freezer. 🤷🏻‍♀️
    Sending you and your family many blessings from Texas.

    Costco batteries have always served me as well as name brand ones. Many companies make their same exact product with Costco labels so you get high quality. Costco is the best. The only problem I’ve had with the scent boosting pearls is that they don’t always dissolve completely. I have an he (high efficiency) washer and a water softener so that’s probably the reason. I throw some in my sock and undergarments drawer for extra lovely scents.

Let's balance Yaadut with before going shopping for Shabbat we say "likvod Shabbat Kodesh", so we don't worry how much we spend for Shabbat. It does not come out of our budget. @@frumitup I found some of your tricks for keeping produce fresh astonishing. Celery in aluminum foil, other veggies wrapped individually in plastic wrap, and I especially like how you flatten out the produce in zip lock bags. Things my mother never taught me. Why are glass containers superior to plastic ones? Do you have good recipes for tofu? Thank you!

    When we lived where there was a Costco I never saved money because I bought so many other things I didn't need. With the price of groceries now I think I would do so much better. Those prices are 👏 amazing. I live on a Island in Alaska and everything has always been expensive here, but now it's outrageous. We are blessed to have plenty of seafood and Elk neat that taste so good not game at all, and we are able to thank and send blessings for the beautiful animal that gave its life for us💖

    Hi Miss Sarah, I noticed many in the group were happy to learn your method of saving celery by wrapping aluminum. Well, I have another aluminum foil trick which I found out about by accident. Having shopped at BJ's and purchased a lot of poultry and meat, I bought a two-pack of aluminum foil lined tote bags that are usually found by the register. While packing groceries into my car, I put a bag of potatoes in the second foil tote and drove home. After I put away the groceries at home, I forgot about the potatoes until I needed them about a week or so later. I opened the foil lined tote and the potatoes were beautiful, no sprouting nor where they soft/mushy to the touch. Now whenever I buy potatoes, I removed the plastic bag and store them in the foil lined tote in the kitchen and all is right with the world🥔🥔🥔. Be well and God bless!
