I've tried that method myself, you never get a pure looking fluid. You have to gravity drain it if you want it 110%.💪

I used that method on my 2009 9-3 Vector 4-cyl. Simple and IMO more secure than opening the circuit and operating it to flush it all at once. I’ll add two advices:
1/ I’d get a longer hose on the vaccum pump because for this method to be efficient you absolutely need to replace as much as possible of the old oil by the new at *each* flush. Whole PS circuit is about 1L, I did 10 flush of about 200ml, so 1-(0.8^10) = oil is now 89% new.
2/ Get a new reservoir cap! Mine was leaking after the job and I found the reservoir was greasy every once in a while. The seal was probably worn by the multiple opening&closing.
Personally I did not feel any change in the steering operation, but the old oil was almost 12yo and brownish like yours so now I am just in a peace of mind 😊
Last thing, you could ear a little hissing sound from the pump during the job that’s because of small air bubbles trapped in the oil, dont worry it should shut up after a few days.
Thanks for your videos and channel, keep up the good work and happy new year 😊

I have the same king of brake fluid evacuation pump. I switched the order of the hoses putting the the short hose between the pump and pump's reservoir and used the longer hose to empty the car's PS reservoir. It's a little thing, but I makes the process less messy. Thanks for all the videos! 2006 9-3 2.0 convertible 94k miles

I never noticed my Aero door seal plate until you installed yours 😅. I have had a 2006 2.8L 9-3 Aero Convertible for over 8 years with 133k miles now. Not a daily driver, but super reliable and powerful! I drove it to the midwest from San Diego last year and shipped it back to not put too many miles. Appreciate your videos! Saab fan from San Diego.

I believe the 202 is partial synthetic and 11S is full synthetic. Thanks, Gary! Nice video!

    @Mohdr121 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

CHF 11S is the recommended over 202 as it's the synthetic version.

I just replaced my power steering pump on my 9-3 4 cylinder (super easy)! I would like to install an inline filter (magnetic) to capture any particles left behind from the old grinding pump.

On the Saab Workshop information system, program (I got from I think Saab scene website) It says to jack up car, to get front wheels off the ground, remove the top hose at bottom of power steering reservoir, place catch pan under hose, start car and turn steering all the way one way and other way, turn off car when fluid flow diminishes, replace hose and refill reservoir.

I'm glad you found some of these, the ones I have say SAAB arc and aren't all black. According to old Saab forums GM did away with them because it was cheaper to have all black plastic instead. Anyway Happy New Year and I think you'll like seeing them when you open your door, I do.

    • @WeakestofWeeks

Good info Phillip. That definitely makes sense that GM would decide to just go all plain black on the sill plates to cut costs. Happy New Year to you as well!

My dude!!!! Happy New Year to you my fellow Saabruh!!!!!!!!You got that right!!! CHF-11S costs $27-29 dollars for one liter. I know for I bought it twice. This I can verify, both of them at O'Reilly's. This is good to know, for I have the same issue with my v6. I was thinking if was either the Rack and Pinion or pump itself.

@@WeakestofWeeks Got a new tune for my 2004 Saab 9-3 2.0T bringing it to 305 hp, but being that she's automatic I say around 280. It's cold now down in GA, so I am slowly but surely getting the v6 together. Just installed the intercooler I got from you (thank you kind sir), got to get the cams repolished due to some cruddy stuff on them, but should be done with that part this week. It's been rough getting them together but well worthwhile when I am done.

I would prefer Amsoil brand power steeering fluid, but I am going to use CHF 11S.

Thanks for this video! Looks like I'm getting some fluid and a turkey baster this weekend for my 93 aero xwd. Also I'm pretty sure alot of tbe owner steering components like the rack and pinion are currently discontinued.. so smart move.

I’ve just developed a leak from my power steering rack of my 2006 2.8 v6 convertible. Been looking for a used rack that says from a v6 but there’s not many about in England. Do you or anyone else reading this know if the rack on a V6 is the same as all engine types or if rack is different for each engine/year/ model. Thanks. Great vid 👍

It's funny cause i came here for a little info about the ps and you're having the opposite problem that I'm having. Just bought an 08 aero and my steering wheel barely moves lol

Also I will add I see your car has the rubber grommets that were used to drill holes in your rockers for undercoating and rust proofing.. lokks easier to take those trim pieces off get a can of rust check or similar ans spray in there to keep rust away. There was moisture in the rockers trying to escape.

I wanted to mention, I have an early '03 Vector (build date on the door says October '02 for some reason), and the sills have a silver inlay with a fancy font on it... I just thought all of them had something like that, just with the different trim level inscribed.
