two things that improve the taste. one, buy dried chickpeas and soak them overnight yourself with a pinch of salt. two, when thinning out your hummus don't use regular water, use the excess water from the chickpeas.
+Christopher Lepre + after soaking overnight, cook in boiled water for 4 hours. if you want it smoother, try fishing out the coats(?) of the peas (not sure if thats the term, sorry). each hummus place has its own secret ingredient which is added and cooked with the chickpeas. try onion/garlic/tomato/etc.. when the peas are easily molded with your fingers, keep the water aside, and put it all in a food processor. add tahini and the water your kept, to get your desired texture. also, keep some of the cooked chickpeas aside and add them at the top of your hummus plate.
Hi, I'm from Middle East and you did the exactly the traditional recipe for hummus. But we don't add the cumin powder with it and we add the plain yogurt instead of water and we will add in the top some Sumac powder. We have hummus as a aside with grilled chicken, meat , fish and shrimp and we add it to the sandwich. Thank you for sharing this yummy recipe.
My first try at hummus and it turned out exactly as I had hoped. Super smooth and delicious with some garlic naan straight out of the oven. Great recipe.
supergrl London I mean creaming the lemon and tahini together until smooth and fluffy then bit by bit. It really doesn’t add that much time for the quality of the finished product.
I just made this and the hummus came out delicious! I roasted some squash, red bell peppers and mushrooms and toasted some bread, spread some hummus and voilá, amazing sandwich, simple but delicious!
I have been meaning to write and let you know that I made your recipe for my coworkers and it was a HUGE hit. I made some homemade pita chips to dip with it and it seriously turned out perfect. I am going to be making this for my family this weekend as a pre dinner treat before Canadian Thanksgiving! Thank you!

For the longest time I have tried to various hummus recipes and could never make the hummus creamy. I tried this today, and this is one of the SECRETS. Thank you :)
Made this today for my father and two brothers. We are Lebanese and usually my mom makes us her authentic Lebanese hummus, she's out of town so I thought I would give this recipe a shot...All three men and I LOVED it! My dad said it was better than the one my mom makes! Definitely keeping this recipe in my arsenal. ;) Thank you for sharing!
I've been using this recipe since it appeared online. It is delicious. My family never commented on it they just ate every bite and then used fingers to wipe the bowl clean. My son is having a Father's Day get together and asked that I make this Hummus! I commented that I wasn't sure he liked it and his retort was " Are you serious? It is ridiculously delicious".
This was one of the best things I ever made. I didn't have tahini but I had bulk sesame. Ground it in Nutribullet, added olive oil, and made my own tahini! Then followed your recipe and improvised a bit and added sumac and turmeric. Served it with pita chips that I made as well. Wow! I got my new favorite snack.
I agree with everyone else. Best hummus recipe. I've already made it twice from your recipe and both times family members have loved it. I use the dry, soaked, and then boiled garbanzo beans. Turns out super yummy!! Thanks for sharing.
This is THE BEST hummus recipe ever. When you watch some tv shows make hummus, even some top Chefs, they always add a TON of oil and salt. Doesn't matter how good your evoo is, if you add too much it's just nasty. I used organic canned and rinse them off well. When I follow the directions here I always end up with a wonderful creamy hummus. Thanks!
I tried your recipe for hummus twice and both times it turned out perfect! I'm never using store bought hummus again! Thank you for a great and easy recipe!!
Well I just made my first batch ever and I followed your instructions but with a touch more garlic because I love fresh garlic and I have to tell you that I will never be buying store bought hummus again!! WooHoo! this stuff is delicious. Thanx for sharing your recipe I'm luvin it!-peace.
a little tip, try to use dry chickpeas and not canned. put it in water for 12 hours and then cook it with vegetable broth until it completely tender (about 3 hours). I know that's a lot of time but the taste is totally different. using canned chickpeas still gives it a little store bought hummus taste.
Great tip! We've actually added a recipe video for cooking your own chickpeas to use in hummus here: th-cam.com/video/zoUz8d_e-Ww/w-d-xo.htmlsi=g6JFGXc3WovqwI94
Made this Again tonight and I love this recipe and how to. It does make a difference blitzing the tahini and lemon juice first. It's easy to adapt to personal taste and a great base to add more ingredients for different dips. I added hemp hearts once and that was yummy. This time I added a teaspoon of lime juice and it tasted awesome. X
My first try of hummus in Hong Kong was inside a hotel buffet. Tonight I followed your recipe. It tasted soooo good and it was exactly the same taste with the one I had in the buffet ~~! Thanks for sharing
I used your hummus recipe today and I must say it is all that you claim it to be! I LOVE hummus and have made several different recipes. But I am totally sold on your recipe! Perfectly creamy, tangy, not too garlicky (although I did use a entire clove lol) Thank you for sharing!
I just want to say that I have made this over 2 dozen times. With some minor changes. This has been the best Hummus! I can't keep it in the fridge for very long.
Great! The only think I would change is the chickpeas. Instead of a can, I would rather buy some dry chickpeas and boil them myself. It takes longer, but it's simple and tastes better.

One of the best things about making hummus is that you can adjust the ingredients to your taste. Some of us prefer more garlic (Yo!) and black papper instead of cumin. I must thank you for showing me something that was very obvious but I didn't get: adding additional liquid, especially when you have to use a blender 'cause you don't have a food processor. I tried making hummus several times, and it never came out without hideous lumps because I wasn't adding more liquid. I prefer to reserve the liquid from the can and add that as the extra liquid. Then I use less salt because of the salt in the canning liquid. Thanks again.
Thanks guys! Pretty good hummus! I just discovered that MIT actually has a class in making hummus. Talk about some wild recipes... I've been making mine with grapefruit juice (because I ran out of lemons one day!) and instead of tahini, which is ground sesame seeds, I use whole flax seeds ground into paste in a vitamix. If someone's coming over who hogs all my hummus, I add 3 or 4 cloves of garlic and a fresh jalapeño. Presto! More for me! What I really appreciated is your great camera work. I can see you are having fun. Thanks again, and keep it up!
when you used water to thin it out, I used organic apple juice. that tiny bit of sweetness really brought out the flavors. thanks! and sometimes instead of tahini made from sesame seeds I used roasted lightly salted pumpkin seeds. I like a few flecks of cranberry sometimes instead of garlic flavor.
I'm new to health food. I rally love this recipe. After using this a couple of times I decided to try and add a few items. I added 1 tbs each of Turmeric and Sumac and 1 extra tbs of olive oil and water. I think it came out great. Thanks for this intuitive video
This hummus is incredible!! I finished making it just now and WOOOOW!! Should've done this six months ago when I found your recipe!! Is there much difference between using minced garlic/mincing yourself and also lemon concentrate/fresh lemons? I know the ratio is particular but I'm wondering about flavor-wise?
Hi there, thanks for your comment :) While I think you could get away with previously minced garlic, using fresh lemon juice is pretty important. The bottled concentrate just doesn't taste the same. We are so happy you found us and our recipe.
Hi there, Good question. We actually have never needed to freeze hummus (we eat it so quickly). However, hummus should freeze well. Place it into smaller plastic bags or containers. After defrosting, it might separate a bit so you'll want to stir vigorously until it comes back together. Hope that helps!
Your recipes is spot on except for two things. Most all middle eastern countries never add olive oil or cumin in the making only to garnish. I know that's über picky, but I thought I'd share it with you. Great video!
MrJohndory111 Hummus is a Middle Eastern food you fucking idiot! Of course Middle Eastern countries know everything about hummus! You dumb uncultured swine!
What I do is a cook a whole bag of garbanzo beans, put them into food processor with some tahini, garlic, salt and pepper, cumin and lemon juice. That obviously gives me lots of hummus, I keep it in one container. Every day I put some into a smaller container and add whatever spices I really crave that day. Maybe extra cumin, very fresh lemon juice, if I feel like heat I add red pepper flakes. Maybe some sumac on top, maybe zaatar if I feel like going Israeli. Just mix it again with a fork or a spoon and it is ready. If you have the base ready you can have hummus at any time and adjust it to exactly what you want to have that day.

Best Hummus recipe anywhere online yet! Great job guys!! The pain of de-skinning the dried chickpeas is well worth it. I guess the trick may be to handle the chickpeas in small batches if using the baking soda method.
Miss Wee I just made it and it may be the best hummus I've ever had. And the best thing is, you can use this as a delicious base and customize it however you want
You guys are awesome! I ran into one of your videos for the 2nd time today. First the oatmeal raisin cookies now the hummus. I now going to subscribe because I love them both!
I like your method - mine is never quite as smooth as I would like. Will try this next time! Have you every tried adding sambul to your hummus? Its a red pepper paste that really gives it that extra kick!
Libby Reed Made it today. It turned out pretty good. Used a little bit more garlic and olive oil, and it's better on potato chips than on corn chips, but it's good on those too.
2:59... Never ever ‘stick your finger’ inside a food processor !!! Even if you think it’s unplugged!!! Just don’t do it !!!! Other than that? Good job 👍
homemade hummus doesn't require outside tahini, otherwise is not homemade anymore. When you make the Tahini at home, you get a different taste of Humus :) My mum used to make hummus all the time but she never bought tahini or other ingredient from outside. All from scratch.
I totally agree. Hummus is much better without the tahini and with a lot more extra virgin olive oil. I also used to use lemon juice but now I prefer it with vinegar. Also there is not enough garlic. I use a whole big, fat clove of garlic. Delicious!
Your technique gave me other ideas that helped me make the creamiest I ever made. I made my own beans in my Instant Pot (not canned), it took about an hour from dry beans. I started like you suggested, but added the chopped garlic at the same time, some of the hot bean water from cooking, and blended all that up really well. Then I scooped the hot beans & some of the fluid from cooking them, a gravy ladle full at a time and let it remain on blend the whole time. I kept adding a ladle at a time until it was taking up all the fluids from the oil, tahini & lemon juice, as well as the fluid I added while blending the beans, to my desired consistency. Best I ever made. Thanks!
If you get the tahini in a can, put it upside down for awhile first. If you don't, it'll be really hard to stir, thus hard to measure, and you'll end up putting in too much like I did. It tasted like I took a big bite of sesame candy! :)
Great description for newbies. I make a spicy hummus with crushed red pepper flakes, cayenne, and about triple the amount of garlic you used. Good job!
I tried it the first time when i started to work in a lebanese restaurant. We can have it and i tend to take home a small box each and every time i work. I started to get obsessed with Hummus 🤤
One of the best home made snacks. You can make it to your preference and really light calories. They are great on rice cakes to kill hunger as a snack in between meals when on low calorie diets or trying to lose weight, also loaded with nutrients and fiber. Great recipe guys,I subscribed.
Just modified this recipe with oven roasted butternut squash just added to the recipe at the end and it is beautiful. I added one additional tablespoon of lemon juice to balance the sweetness from the squash. Another mod of my all time favorite hummus recipe...
Looks pretty good. I put about 3 small cloves of garlic in and a TBSP of store-bought, chopped garlic. Plus, I just put everything in together at once and blend it in a food processor, rather than go through all the steps you go through. Comes out just as smooth.
two things that improve the taste. one, buy dried chickpeas and soak them overnight yourself with a pinch of salt. two, when thinning out your hummus don't use regular water, use the excess water from the chickpeas.
Might have to try it with dried ones then :--)

+Uri Dar recipe sounds good but 4 hrs cook chickpeas seems a lot 1 hr i heard!
***** Try both then :) im not an arab but I am from Israel and based on hummus as my main food(:
I did this just now and It is amazing!!!!!!!!! Seriouslyy good!

This is hands down the BEST hummus recipe. Starting with the tahini and lemon made all the difference. Thankyou.
I've been making my hummus this way for years. I always get great reviews. I'm glad someone finally put the technique on TH-cam. It's the best!!!!
Do you mean the adding bit by bit? Its really necessary?
supergrl London I mean creaming the lemon and tahini together until smooth and fluffy then bit by bit. It really doesn’t add that much time for the quality of the finished product.
I do save some of the chickpea water (aquafaba) to use instead of tap water at the very end of processing

I'm sorry, but I don't think it's politically correct to use the word chickpeas? I'm a male and I enjoy hummus. You're being extremely bigoted and misogynistic when you insinuate that a vegetable is gender specific. The correct identification is gender unspecified and it's GARBANZO beans. Now, I'm sure you're just ignorant and didn't know the correct term but I'm willing to let it pass, as long as you didn't vote for, nor support trump. If you did. Fuck you, you're a fascist and you can rot in hell.

thank you for this. i am going to try to make my own as well. i was introduced to hummus and now i am hooked. cheaper to make my own than the store
doing it in batches is the key...I think that's what I haven't been doing...I'll give this a try for sure
Thanks for sharing your hummus recipe. Every time I make hummus, I always refer back to this video.

How many days can we keep it?
Use roasted garlic too
That's a great idea. Kind of annoyed that I didn't think of it. Lol.
I've tried this hummus at different restaurants it never tasted the same but all tasted good and it is served as an appetizer.

OK, that seems easy enough. I'll be trying it this weekend. BTW, tahini is not cheap, and it separates and needs stirring, often.
I make mine without the tahini. You can sub with about a 1/4 c of olive oil.

Made it today. It turned out pretty good. Used a little bit more garlic and olive oil, and it's better on potato chips than on corn chips, but it's good on those too.
I also like it on sliced cucumbers. Once I started making hummus it quickly became a staple.

Cucumbers... I'll have to try that. I wonder if it might be good with rice; I've had boiled garbanzos with rice, cheese, and salsa.
all you have to do to make tahini is grind sesame seeds. easy
I do think you were in my mothers kitchen when we were young....I love it......devine
2:59... Never ever ‘stick your finger’ inside a food processor !!!
Even if you think it’s unplugged!!! Just don’t do it !!!!
Other than that?
Good job 👍
I love homemade hummus! There are so many yummy variations.
Dear instead of water try adding yoghurt or hung curd or sour cream for real smooth and garnish with some chick peas and parsley
No no you distroied the original recipe. Take this advice from a Lebanese she did it right.
Thank you! Glad you liked the video.
homemade hummus doesn't require outside tahini, otherwise is not homemade anymore. When you make the Tahini at home, you get a different taste of Humus :)
My mum used to make hummus all the time but she never bought tahini or other ingredient from outside. All from scratch.
Dude reply to his comment please hahaha
dwarfs gold hahahaa
I totally agree. Hummus is much better without the tahini and with a lot more extra virgin olive oil. I also used to use lemon juice but now I prefer it with vinegar. Also there is not enough garlic. I use a whole big, fat clove of garlic. Delicious!
LOL
They have a video on homemade tahini too.
Glad to hear that you liked it and it worked in your blender :)
That looks incredible
Great description for newbies. I make a spicy hummus with crushed red pepper flakes, cayenne, and about triple the amount of garlic you used. Good job!
Thanks! Adding more garlic is always an option. We love the extra spice you add.
Personalizing your own hummus is part of the fun. Nice!
you earn a subscriber ................ good video short simple and detail.
Jogi Baba Thank you.
Reminds me of some of the great hummus I had in Israel. Thanks so much for the recipe!
You mean Palestine Arab original country. . + this is Arab food not Jewish
Iv'e reached that point in my life where I can't eat a meal without hummus on the side
I've never had hummus before and I'm 28
I tried it the first time when i started to work in a lebanese restaurant. We can have it and i tend to take home a small box each and every time i work.
I started to get obsessed with Hummus 🤤

Every vegan's staple tbh.
Followed your Tahini and hummus recipe today - came out very smooth and tasty!
Never tried this before, is it a good breakfast food?
Jake Long It's a dip. I suppose you can put it on toast and have it for breakfast.
It's a good ALL DAY food, yes food! I sometimes just eat small spoonfuls with anything laying around!
I sometimes make it as a snack and have it with a spoon. Mmmm so good. Now I want some 😣
Enso ,LLC
We eat it as breakfast in the middle east
the best and most correctly cooked hummus I found all over the internet! Great work guys!
Aww, that's amazing.
1/4 tahini
1/4 lemon juice
1/2 clove garlic
2 tbs olive oil
1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp salt
2tbs water
Great video easy and delicious. I added 3 cloves of garlic and 1/2 habanero (Cajun). Thanks for sharing.
One of the best home made snacks. You can make it to your preference and really light calories. They are great on rice cakes to kill hunger as a snack in between meals when on low calorie diets or trying to lose weight, also loaded with nutrients and fiber. Great recipe guys,I subscribed.
Thank you so much and welcome!
You really could just put everything in there at the beginning.
exactly what I was thinking, the modern food processors blend everything corner to corner
Thats what i did lol! So much easier. If you are interested on how i made them, i have a quick hummus recipe video on my channel👍🏻
😂
I but everything in my blendtec at once and it’s smoooooooth
Thats what I think and do, who wastes 50 utensils and bowls
Just modified this recipe with oven roasted butternut squash just added to the recipe at the end and it is beautiful. I added one additional tablespoon of lemon juice to balance the sweetness from the squash. Another mod of my all time favorite hummus recipe...
U should know! .. we never put the finger in blender....pffff🤔
Looks pretty good. I put about 3 small cloves of garlic in and a TBSP of store-bought, chopped garlic. Plus, I just put everything in together at once and blend it in a food processor, rather than go through all the steps you go through. Comes out just as smooth.
Mine comes out that smooth and I don’t scrape 4 times. Soak the beans is better and most don’t add cumin.
Turned out great!! I added more garlic and lots of paprika and I love it!
