    Sprinkle some water, and hit it with a roller. Compaction is where it's at!!

      Costs more for the home owner though and he put material only a few inches on top of the native driveway so isn't gonna sink that much. Maybe 🤷

    I love your bird Gracie. This morning I was on the phone with someone an my bird Kimmy would not stay quiet for anything. I had to bribe her with about 50 sunflower seeds. Works every time. I haven't given her anything but water to drink, no soda since I don't drink it. But I know almost all pets will eat it drink anything they see us eating and drinking. Great video buddy, tell Gracie I say she's a Pretty bird. I love birds and they are almost as good at warning us of any trouble as a good dog can.

    Power rake or hydra-bucket? I must maintain 1.7 mi, 7 switchbacks of road to access our MT home.. appreciate your thoughts if I should go with a MTW power rake or a hydra-bucket ... your grading videos using both are spectacular and was hoping to gets your thoughts on which attachment I should go with... wish I could afford both but I’m gonna have to pick one for road grading .... I like the bucket option for leveling on the hydra-bucket, but that power rake appears bad-a$$.... any advice would be greatly appreciated

    • @consaka1
      @consaka1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My advice is a front end loader on a tractor and a box blade with times. The times help break up any really hard stuff. I seldom use them except for major repairs. Do a rough leveling and crowning then dump new gravel by the bucket load every so often. The bucket will pick up the piles and spread it evenly. There ain't no glass and honestly I don't really want it. Just drive on it and a good rain settles it all in.

  • @EchoTangoSuitcase
    @EchoTangoSuitcase 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    You know, if you want to get into doing driveways as an added line, you might want to look into buying a Gravel Doctor machine.
    It has 15 scarifying teeth that you can raise and lower hydraulically, you can scarify forwards and backwards, it has a two sided cutting blade on it so you can do that forwards and backwards too. You can also raise it and lower it on the 3-point, tilt it forward and back, and roll it clockwise and counter-clockwise; all hydraulically and controlled from the seat of your tractor. You can actually use the factory designed hydraulic valve box, or you can use the tractor's rear-remotes. I know a guy in Indiana who does that. I also used mine to excavate a few inches of dirt to make a stone shed pad or light duty parking pad. (Geogrid underneath the stone). Very efficient at that.
    BTW, I always suggest an inch to an inch-and-1/2 of well compacted 57's on top of a gravel driveway. It keeps the rain from washing away the fines. Just my 2 cents.
    Love your channel.

    I have been doing driveways for a long time with just a box blade. It's all in the angle with the top link to set the distribution depth. Drainage is important for the edges of the driveway and to finish the driveway with a bit of crown to it. If you do the water will run off and avoid the formation of puddles. Standing water being driven over creates puddles.
    My driveway challenges are all related to being to cheap for the necessary gravel. That stuff is expensive.

    • @p8ntbal4me
      @p8ntbal4me 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You do not put Crown in driveways unless they are 20 feet wide and there is a reason for it
      Crown goes in a road not a driveway

    • @RobertSmith-pr8hv

      He is wright, been paving for 35 years owner for 30. Most driveways do need a crown , if they are on flat ground, crown it or rework the base to slop from side to side, every job is different challenge, biggest challenge is people don’t want to pay the price to do the job wright, then they wanna complain about everything. You can’t make everyone happy. Thats why i shy away from residential a-lot, just depends on the customers, doing it 36 years really helps judging my apenion.

      @@p8ntbal4me lol you are soooo wrong it isn't even funny. But hey you like your driveway to be one giant series of puddles go ahead and don't put a crown on it or slope it. I prefer crown because it keeps water movement slow enough it doesn't wash anything away when it rains and doesn't build up enough to form puddles like flat will every single time.

      @@p8ntbal4me I'd never hire you. Other professionals here have also collaborated the proper way to do a driveway. I prefer to crown the driveway because you get the longest puddle free life from it that way. Happy customers for sure. Your customers have to call you over and over each year when it rains to have you redo their driveways.
      I cut the angle for each side and the back grade the loose stuff in the middle. Sometimes I just cut the angle on each side and then have new gravel put over it. Leaves a nice crown that will last for years if treated properly. It's common sense and works great. If you had to go to school for common sense. Well you may need to get at least a partial refund. Lol

    I use a harley rake to fix driveways and private roads. Best advice is to tailgate spread the material, rake it out then vibratory roll it. All with one machine.

    I would have liked to see the SR3 for the finish grading part. I have to say though, over my geographic area round the northeast, people would probably have used a D3 for that type of job. But both methods sure work.

    I couldn't really tell if it done that good of a job as far as spreading the gravel but I bet it would work great on a driveway that is already established but needs grading. What was I missing as far as it spreading the gravel?

      I tried a similar one on a road base driveway that was stablished and compacted. I wanted to grade it and it didn’t work. It was too hard for it. All it did was jump and it will only cut into the road a little bit. Took way too much time, I ended up using a new load of base to graded it

    Have you ever tried recycled crushed concrete for a driveway. I did mine 2 years ago and still solid as well concrete lol. Once it rained a bit it still has the cement in it so it solidifies. I can light up all 4 of my rear dually tires and it stays put. Plus it's cheep! Nice video BTW!

      Only downside to the crushed concrete is the dust when it gets super dry it can get pretty dusty on a windy day. Aside from that shits awesome

    Hey Stan! Happy Wednesday! I've got a question: would you reccomend buying a well maintained used trailer for a lawn care business? (Gonna try a 2 mower setup) If so, what size and type would comfortably fit any size deck? (Probably no bigger than 60in) Have a great day! More questions to come soon! My setup would include 1 bigger deck zero (60) turn and a smaller size stand-in (42 or so).

      16 foot open deck. But that doesn't leave you much extra room. I like having more space. I would personally do 18 mininum. But longer trailers don't bother me. My Diamond C is 20'
