  • Few had hear of him when he won the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, but you can bet all eyes were on Pyrros Dimas after that and here’s your chance to see him in the training hall the next year, at the 1993 World Weightlifting Championships.

    One of the most explosive athletes in the history of sports, period. Strength is one thing, but being THAT explosive is a totally different attribute that only the few and very best possess. It can be cultivated with training up to a certain point, but it's mostly genetic. The acceleration of the weights he lifts as they go up is just crazy. Pyrros was truly a one of a kind lifter.

      Impossible front squat for lifter from that weight class. Sorry, much heavier KLOKOV did 280. In fact we don't know that, he SAID that www.allthingsgym.com/dmitry-klokov-personal-records/ All we can see in the movie is 265 kg, neverthless it is incredible => th-cam.com/video/4ZiYs8DRnEY/w-d-xo.html He was struggling with 265 kgs, so for me his "280" or "290" is delusional. And KLOKOV was 20 kg heavier than DIMAS.

      @@matta1966 Klokov is also much taller than Dimas. He has to move more weight. And you gotta go based off structure. Not saying that it's impossible that he is lying, but even Shi Zhiyong has expressed major weakness in dips compared to his fellow Chinese teammates. Plus Pyrros has won four Olympic medals, three of which are gold. Overall, he is just a much better athlete than Klokov

    It’s actually uncanny how light he makes these weights look. Like I see it happening right in front of me but part of my brain just cannot accept it. My intuition tells me that these weights just should not be able to move like this. He’s making 150kg look like 60kg, except most grown men couldn’t even move 60 with that kind of speed and ease. Possibly the freakiest power and explosiveness of any athlete ever.

    Great story about Dimas in a biographical vid about him. When he was a little boy in Albania his future coach saw him climbing a tree to get some fruit and by the way the kid was using his legs the coach could see the great potential in a leg strength sport he’d have so he talked him into starting training. Sounds a bit allegorical but that’s Pyros’s story.

    "Beyond what any American can do". I don't know why Randall Strossen bothers to make that comparison when he himself knows what the real difference is.

    • @LRonChungus
      @LRonChungus 7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      respectfully disagree, there are difference(s) talent and coaching are among them

    • @mu0325
      @mu0325 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Here we go again. The differences are skill, skill, skill, skill, skill, skill, talent, and age when they started with combination of "real" coaching by coaches who were elite level weightlifters themselves which help to develop skill. The difference that you are implying will only make a difference when it comes to competition among those countries who dominate the sport. Being very strong in itself won't make a great weightlifter or get international medals. That's why Randall use the snatch as a comparison. Even these days as more Americans are breaking world records in the Clean and jerk at the youth level, but look at the gap difference between their best Clean and Jerk and snatch, it is significant when compared to other countries who dominate the sport. The talent (strength and athleticism) is available, but the coaching, resources, and support system at the youth level which develop the right skill is not. They say strength is cheap but skill is not.

    • @jackalacka2887
      @jackalacka2887 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Support is a significant factor that too few realize when they make these arguments. After all how can an aspiring 18 year old weightlifter succeed at they elite level if he is also going to school or working a full time job?

    • @welterskelter
      @welterskelter 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Jackalacka 28 Make it a lifestyle as best you can. Carve out your two hours a day to lift and stretch. Use any other moment you can throughout the day wisely. Stretch you whenever possible. Grind it out man grind it out. Regardless of whether or not you become an Olympian you will be far superior, lifting-wise, to anyone else around you.
