I was more inclined to the DR650 until a great deal presented a DRZ400, and now I'm happy with the 400 over the 650. But whatever you have, get out and ride.
Thanks! I enjoyed the video. You have some great country to ride in. I had the stock “deathwings” on my DR650. They were nice road tires but were horrible on wet grass and sand. After 2,000 miles I switched to a set of Mitas E-07 and love them. They’re a 50/50 and lasting much longer on the road and they dig into the sand real good here in Florida.
Hey, Thanks for the ride. Really enjoyed it. I took off my Bridgestone tires that came with my 2021 Drz400s. I have Dunlop d606 now. And I went 10mm wider in the front . Have fun and be safe.
17:18… I camped up the road on the left that goes nowhere. Some person came up crooked creek rd. At 10:30pm and ironically shot that sign with a 9mm. Though I was getting shot at..almost returned. Love the Oregon riding vijaz even more on the drz.
Awesome content! I am seriously looking at a DRZ to compliment my KLR for the harder routes. Currently rebuilding my KLR after discovering a rear subframe fracture and a motor mount fracture from riding too hard (too many bottom outs despite upgraded suspension), and not keeping up with bolt torques. One subframe bolt, the big one on the right side missing, and the left side frame fractured from carrying all the load. Lesson learned. Keep us updated on the DRZ. Seems like an offroad beast.
Such amazingly beautiful area! 0_0 LOVE that DRZ! Great vid from what I seen. I am short on time so I had to skim and only watched roughly 10 min. of it. Never the less, all I seen was great! Gotta admit the mountain biker dudes got some heart! Like...…….how the heck far away was the vehicle that hauled the bike there, ya know. lol That view at 20:28 …… wow
Trailwings are really underated, they came on my DR650 too. At first I was really underwhelmed and couldn't wait to burn through them so I could put some 50/50 tires on. Ended up going with kenda k270's and while they are great off road, I find myself missing the trailwings for the mild off roading I do. Trailwings handle pretty much everything but deep mud and sand with ease and they're super smooth on the road.
They've exceeded my expectations on everything but mud so far...but here in the PNW we pretty much have mud year-round so good mud traction is pretty much necessary.
I find them perfectly good for my WR250R. Think I may actually stay with them. Even with them being half worn when I got my used bike, I did single track trails with them that I normally do with my KTM200EXC and I was able to ride it all. No mud exposure, but unless you have full knobbies, you will always have issues in mid with dual sport tires. Reality is a lot of riding is done on the road and you can be aggressive and lean the 301/302s right over.
@@DorkintheRoad I'm looking forward to trying out the Dunlop trailmax mission tires next. Supposably it is a true 50-50 tire that maintains an extremely high agility level on pavement
I’ve actually had good experience on my so called “Death Wings” for what I do right now, everything but mud, and sand. I will get D606’s next though. I am so glad I bought my 2020 400s a month ago! Love this bike, coming off from being a Super Bike rider.
I never had any issues with the “deathwings” on my old DRZ. Found them to be great on wet and dry tarmac and good on my off road riding (I even did a couple of motoX practice days on it at Tony Moto MX track too, made the DRZ fly 😂). Loved that bike. ✊️
I have definitely run into more than my fair share of gates over the years, but I'm definitely luck to have a few options for non-gated exploring within striking distance.
I think you'll find that the track masters are amazing off road but they wear extremely fast on pavement. I went through a couple of the Kendas on my last bike. Loved them so much off road. Be careful on the pressure of the front tire with the Kenda. If you run it below 20psi on the road, you will wear off every other row of knobs and the tire will be trash. I aired down once for the trails and forgot to air back up and I destroyed the front tire in short order.
@@DorkintheRoad haven't tried this bike but TKC80s seem like a nice bet for front grip. They allow you to ride pretty aggressively onroad(i scrape pegs with em but i'm probably gambling a bit there, lol) and hold well enough offroad for me. Rear TKC is good but quick wear so I might pair it with something else. My front TKC80 will probably last 10k kms, based on the 2k i've done so far with no visible wear.
Like watching you go through the woods, question?, I'm a novice off roader, my nephew who does alot of it, says a DRZ 400, would be good for me, tall but a great bike, I ride hid DR 650,what a great tractor, just plows through my mistakes. What do you think thank you
Depends on how much highway you want to do I guess. The DR will do everything the DRZ will do, it's just heavier. 650 would be better if you do much highway. DRZ much better if you're just going to be mainly off road.
Suspension is a night and day difference so far. Haven't had it on anything super crazy yet but that's coming. I haven't tweaked it at all. It's still totally stock baseline.
i can tell just by watching the videos that your new drz rides much better than the honda. im looking at getting a dual sport and was leaning towards the 250L. I'm thinking the drz 400 might be better long term. its still a good beginner bike and you can grow into it as your skill level increases. what do you think Dork?
I think the seat height and power can be a little intimidating for a new rider but if you feel comfortable on it it could be a great bike to grow into and keep for a long time
hey dork in the road, i have the opportunity to get a 2008 with 18,000km on it, it has a big acerbis tank and some other mods, what do you think about the mileage? price is around 4,000 dollars :)
“It could go at any minute. I’m gonna park my bike under it, get some pictures for yuh.” 20 seconds later “MY BIKE! IT CRUSHED MY BIKE!” (I suppose you can do more videos titled “My Brand New ______“ that way).
I haven't spent a ton of time on the WR but I do have a little experience with it. WR is more modern bike with fuel injection and a 6th gear. Suspension is probably about the same. DRZ has more power, especially down low. WR likes to live in the high revs to make its power. The power difference between the two is noticeable. Both great bikes, though, so you really can't go wrong. Ride 'em both if you can.
Having the same bike, you'll want to consider knobby tires for more dirt applications, adding 3 or 4 teeth to the rear sprocket (or dropping 1 tooth on the front) for better gearing in the dirt, ESPECIALLY for low speed, smaller trails - you do NOT want 350 pounds on your tiptoes on an uphill grade coming to a full stop. It is a painful experience!!! That much weight, especially on a bike that tends to be top heavy, is uncomfortable to say the least.
Just blew my front tire in the dirt by grabbing too much front brake after trying to show off while being videotaped... The stock tires need a rim lock if you're going to ride hard.
You have to be on foot to find Bigfoot.... he can hear that DRZ or your CRF coming from ten miles away, and moves to avoid... as do I, and I’m not even related to Squatch....

That DRZ has a nice, healthy growl. Very enjoyable ride along and views, thanks!
Noice! I'm diggin the addition of the music and the beat edits at the beginning.
I'm trying to step it up a bit. I appreciate you noticing ;)
You’re gonna love the trackmasters. I run them on my DRZ and they’re good on road, but great off-road. 👍🏼
I'm excited to test them out
Keep at it
I'll do my best!

It was a great ride!
I ride up there,I've been concering the Dr for 3yrs I plan on buying a new bike this year.
Death wings tires have the worst fade. Use what you've got left to get to the store and buy a new set of good non OEM tires. Have fun stay safe!
Already swapped them out for some Trakmasters!
There is no places like that around my house. So I definitely enjoyed the exploration. DRZ is a good choice.
Thanks for watching!
You are pretty fortunate to have all that area to explore. Where im at in Washington, i cant seem to find anything like that. So many gates closed.
I have definitely run into more than my fair share of gates over the years, but I'm definitely luck to have a few options for non-gated exploring within striking distance.
Wanna see closed gates ? Come to central California.

I am very sorry but also not at all sorry ;)
I think the DRz is the perfect bike for you for these adventures :-)
Me too!
How is the suspension on the DRZ VS the CRF? Better for a heavy rider? Have you messed with any settings or did the dealer set it up for you?

Giant Loop Diablo. I love it
