    Revisiting these old vids. Awesome, and still relevant since they still haven’t changed a thing on those bikes. If I had found your channel before Everide’s I would probably have bought the DRZ instead of a KLR 5 years ago. Better late than never, I’m picking up a new DRZ as soon as the dealers get them back in stock.

    I used to hate in the drz because of the weight and carb... until I rode one. Then I went and bought a 2019 2 weeks ago. It’s awesome. Tons of fun to ride. I’m not a pro so I don’t need a crazy fast lightweight bike.

    So awesome to see this. I'm still undecided between a DRZ or a KLR, but leaning a little more toward the DRZ400SM and then changing to dirt wheels when I get the dirty bug more... CDS, thanks so much for all the great vids, a real inspiration!

    Really enjoyed this. My first bike was a KLR-650 that I was first introduced through eveRide's videos. Now I'm shopping for a new bike with a new riding area and goals. The DR-Z400s is on the top of my list currently. Thanks guys for some awesome information and entertainment.

      I own a KLR and I can't imagine having anything else. I have the issue that the DRZ400 has a limited range. Riding out to the North Rim & Back to St. George to me would be pushing it in a DRZ400... prove me wrong.

      I am factory Honda and HD certified tech that did set up for a dealership, I personally took my DRZ-400S off the semi truck, uncrated it, set it up, test rode it, and bought it before another human touched it, other than moving it around the floor.
      2001 DRZ-400S with less than 9000miles on the clock, full synthetic engine oil after the initial break in and then I added a full Yoshimura off road exhaust and a stage 2 carb kit.
      UFO Oregon head light and tail light kit.
      Pro Taper bars.
      MOOSE bark busters and hand guards.
      DR 350 skid plate molded to fit, more coverage than what is offered for the 400 in 2001.
      Twistlock 1 gallon + the rear rack.
      And 4 gallon overland gas tank...not installed but you can have it for free!
      Make an offer!

    Thanks CDS. I'm new to dirt, and I think I'm getting a used, mostly stock, 2003 DRZ this week (if the seller gets the replacement title from the DMV, no money has been exchanged yet), and this is super helpful. I don't think I'll be hitting the trails this year, but your videos have helped me pinpoint the MODs I'll want. You got yourself a sub. Thanks!

      +aseredy The DRZ has its purpose but I don't think its any lighter or less top heavy than your KLR. If you want a bike that will really perform like a dirtbike in tight singletrack, get a 450 with upside down forks.

    Great review, love how you did the invite with everide and the australian guy. Right now i have a klr buy want something lighter. I am in between the ktm 690 and the drz400s. Performance wise (forget about initial cost, parts costs, maintenance etc); which would be better of these two bikes. Another thing i am short have a 30 inseam, so thats why i am inclining more towards the ktm, its 1 in shorter. Thanks buddy once again for the video.

    Looks great , I'm sold .
    Classified or dealer is the only choice now . Wait this isn't a joke but I'd love to bring my 42 lb four legged friend on a trip . I would trailer the bike to wherever but was wondering if there is some kind of rear two wheeled pet/gear carrier that one could get . Of course I would pick easier wider trails .
    She goes bonkers with complete joy when she gets to run free in the trees/mountains/beach wherever . I would really feel guilty leaving her behind on some trips .
    Just wondering if there is something like that available that's built well and safe as can be expected . Thanks for videos , looking forward to the next ones .

    Great videos, love to watch. I just bought a DRZ400, ordered a Seat Concepts seat, radiator guards, skid plate and case covers. My question is; I'm basically the same build as you (6'3" 280) how important is modding the suspension right out of the gate? If I can get by for a while I will do the power mods first. Thanks again, keep up with the awesome vids.

    • @ColoradoDualSport
      @ColoradoDualSport  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      bigfordguy1988 I am still running the stock suspension so that should tell you something. Really the only time I have issues with it is when there are super long super deep whoop sections. Normal and gnarly trail riding are all fine. I'm sure an upgrade might make her handle better, but since she's all I've ever known I think stock is great. Glad those videos are offering some help! This weeks video covers all of my gear so there might be some helpful stuff in there as well. Post some pictures to the facebook if you can, it would be cool to see your setup!

    I have been looking to buy a new DRZ400 recently but buying a low mileage one is very appealing. I heard eveRide say that you can get a nice used low mileage one for 2k-2.5k but I am not seeing the same thing at all. I am seeing used low mileage for like 5k and new they are 6500. Please point me in the right direction of a place to look to find them cheaper so I can maybe save a bit to outfit it with some needed mods for the way I will be riding sooner than later.

      There hasn't been a single DRZ400 on Craigslist in my area of the country for below $3k. Even the used bikes that are hammered are hitting at least that much, if one ever does show up I'm sure it will be missing the title.

    • @DaddySizeIt
      @DaddySizeIt 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup, they hold their value and are more rare than people pretend. Trying to get some steal for 2500 is nice, but I'm just going to buy mine new. You're right that the real value is closer to 5K. The used market changes over time, we're in bad times for used vehicles of any sort. Maybe back in the 90s or a lucky catch. That's another reason Honda has a hit on its hands with the CRF250L. Can be had for 4K new, sure it has less power but can't argue with the value.

As I rounded the corner I saw a shuttle bus opening it doors. There was a stream of cuss words I had to edit out LOL! I did the best with what I had to work with.

    You said they can't steal your gas . You mean they can't steal your gas container. It looks like all they would have to do is unscrew the cap to get all your gas . You should make the container mount with a hing . While your on the road put it up in the up right position. and velcro a 1/2 inch foam garden knee pad to the container . It makes for a great back rest and really feels good .

    • @ColoradoDualSport
      @ColoradoDualSport  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, yeah, but by the time they figured out how to get it open and tried to steal it I'd be right behind them with the .40 asking if I could help them. That is a great idea! I actually ended up just getting a 4 gallon tank and don't worry about the rotopax anymore. The idea was good, but they would never hold on through the riding I do even when i used locktite.

    ColoradoDualSport. I just bought a DR-Z400S. Your videos have been extremely helpful. After taking it on only one ride, the seat has to go. I ordered up a Seat Concept seat. The gas tank is also going. I hate steel tanks with a passion as they tend to rust (also increased range would be nice). Now, when I bought the bike it had a Yoshimura pipe already on it and was jetted properly BUT did not have the airbox mod on it. Do I need to rejet if I decide to go with the 3x3 airbox mod? Thank you in advance!

    • @ColoradoDualSport
      @ColoradoDualSport  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MCBALLPEEN Thanks so much man! I'm glad these videos are helping people. You will need to re-jet due to the difference in fuel/air ratio from the 3x3 mod. I can't offer much more help then that, but I would talk to someone who knows carbs and jetting just to see exactly what needs to be done. You will notice a lot more get up and go though because the bike can breath so much better.

    Hello I am looking at getting a dual sport bike this coming spring/summer (2015) I am just starting to do some research. The DRZ seems like a great bike the only thing I am concerned about is power. I am a very large dude, I weigh a little over 400 lbs. and I am wondering if the DRZ will have enough grunt to get me moving. I plan to use it mostly as a commuter bike with a little light trail riding now and then.

    • @ColoradoDualSport
      @ColoradoDualSport  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Edmund Squid I'm about 300lbs and Xena moves me around just fine. The main thing you need to be concerned about is that the suspension is geared for a 190lb rider stock. My next major upgrade is going to be "big dude springs" which I think will improve the ride drastically. In your case I think maybe a KLR 650 or DR 650 might suit you a bit better. The DRZ is more a trail rider with light road riding and it sounds like you plan to do the opposite of that.

    Stuck between the drz400 and the dr650. Any advice? Awesome channel!

    • @ColoradoDualSport
      @ColoradoDualSport  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The depends on the type of riding you plan to do. The DRZ is lighter, makes nearly the same HP but less torque. The DRZ has more ground clearance for rough trails and is much more nimble. However, the DR650 is much better suited for long trips. It's larger tank and more comfortable seating setup provide for that. So yeah, it really depends on you and what you want it for. Both have their strengths and weaknesses, but both are rock solid tried and tested bikes. Both have large community followings and lots of mods and aftermarket parts. Whichever way you go you won't regret it if you are honest about your riding. Watch my video called Dual Sport Shoot Out Part 2. The KLR in that video is very comparable to the DR650 and it has great points from three riders.

      supposedly the reason they are still in America is some round about EPA regulation where as long as the design doesn't change, it's not held to the same updated standard. which is why a mint condition original DRZ looks like a brand new DRZ. now it's obviously not CARB approved (California's own emissions standard which kills a lot of bikes able to be rode legally there) but if you go out of your way to make it compliant with after market stuff it should be legal. not sure how the Euro emissions people do it, but that's what I'd look into. if anything else, the 600 might be sold in Europe.
