This is my song!! I remember hearing it at a gas station years ago and it took me many years too find out who sang it.. great song.. has a lot of personal meaning for me!!!
Listened to it all in the early to mid 90s, but this group always held a special place. And boy have they aged well, and happy to know my ears were good. The stuff we used to listen to sounded oftentimes pandering to teen angst, but Sponge was making real 100% legit stuff that sounds better today than it did back then. I go back to them every few years and each time they get better and better. Can't say that about a lot of music... most music. True artists. And for those who have commented about a lack of salable tracks on Wax Ecstatic, they should try appreciating the soulful qualities of the album which make it unique even compared to others in Sponge's discography.
I had just got done writing the same on a different sponge song. I love this band. I listened to rotting pinata album and some other rare sponge songs when I was growing up in my teens. I dont really understand why they weren't more popular but I'm so glad I found them. Thx much
This song makes me think of this one time: A lady at work was talking about how she had an abortion. I don't personally agree with it but when I spoke some honest words of support to her she really responded to it. She said everyone else was either judging her through their words or she could tell by their expressions. Even after I told her I don't necessarily agree with it and my reasons for that, she still thanked me for saying what I said to her.
Beautiful song. Bring rock back maybe we'll have the biggest peace movement ever not gonma forget you John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, janis Joplin, and others!
I bought Rotting Pinata at Coconuts Record store in 95 on a buy it try it status! Oh, man, it was one of the greatist albums of the 90's...and no...I did not return it...it went platinum! Great band!
They are fantastic and I thoroughly believe Rotting Pinata is a PERFECT album!! But bands don't gotta be The Beatles Metallica or Nirvana to be noteworthy and a good listen Sponge is a hidden gem, id people are lucky enough to find them then bless their lucky ears. They made a living out of rocking. Sure maybe they wish they had a bigger audience sometimes but as a guitarist/musician. I can tell you some audience is better than no audience and it's a 1,000 times better when that audience loves you. FACTS
so beautiful...great song...soul level IS thru the fucking roof...that opening riff is so fucking cool....."like why does she feels alldead on the inside, but as a child she remembers feelingALIVE"
I’ve never heard this mix before, with the drums coming in so early. Some label guy who thought it must have sounded “better” than the original, I guess. The original is perfect.
this was a great band, i seriously wish they were as wlel known as bands like pearl jam and nirvana at the time, that was the time where this type of sound(well not this song in particular) started gettign huge success and these guys never took offf, which sucks, though i was glad to hear them get some recognition in recent years
You know you're a talented and good band when you can't be put in a box. One song will sound like it could have been written in the 70s and others will sound very modern.
I was at that New Haven show too.Nov 22nd 94 or 95,they were so much better than Candlebox who were lifeless.Sponge closed with a Speed Racer cover running through the crowd.Blew everyone away.Wish they hadn't disappeared so quickly.
These guys would always put kick in ass at their concerts, seen them with Candlebox, Sponge warmed the show and burned Wing Stadium up. Oh yeah, they kicked boxes ass!!!
I agree with canadarules989...Love this Song, remember the first time I heard it, played it over and over and OVER again!!!!!!! I could not remember the name of it, sad but true..I was over thinking it. then it finally came to me...Def should have been a bigger hit ;-}
They had a lot of aesthetic issues marketing wise. Even just the cover for this album turned a lot of people off. Seemed like the label couldn't figure out a cogent way to market these guys. They'd be a hodgepodge of wildly different sounds and with image being so important in 1996, the label seemed to have an identity crisis with this band.
Ahh… ‘Wax Ecstatic’, you were the ‘Angel Dust’ Of The Mid 1990s. One of the biggest “what the fuck?” releases ever, only to reveal it’s roots in stadium rock & Motown swing and reveal itself to be the pearliest Sponge album. Screw Candy Corn, give me songs about drag queens & near mythical billboard models!
saw this the one time it aired on 120min in '96 and loved it. This was also NOT re-shown when MTV2 was showing all the videos it allegedly had from A-Z in 2000. I guess MTV2 aided to the fact as to why it's so cold in the D...
Why don’t people like this? This is one of Sponge’s best songs
Who cares
@@front-row-freak No one does
I love it! 😍
...the girls beautiful.....

im surprised this band didn't become HUGE in the 90's. They are pretty tight
Great slide guitar on some tunes👍
Andrei lounin uhh... They did?
Word...I ailways thought so
I'm not, their only good song is plowed, which was Huge and is still great. It's a shame they didn't make more songs on that level
It was a time of embarrassing riches musically
The definition of a hidden gem ❤
No Kidding!
Every once in a while a song hammers the nail right on the head.
This is my song!! I remember hearing it at a gas station years ago and it took me many years too find out who sang it.. great song.. has a lot of personal meaning for me!!!
90s music Never Forget What a great era ❤

My favorite song from the 90s, hands down. Should've been a hit.
Always gave me the feels

I just saw these guys play at a local bar last week and damn they really need to be put in front of a huge crowd.
They were…opened for Candlebox at their height and Sponge outshone them so bad it was something I’ve never seen before or since
classic 90's alternative! awesome!
so beautiful...great song...soul level IS thru the fucking roof...that opening riff is so fucking cool....."like why does she feels alldead on the inside, but as a child she remembers feelingALIVE"

Every moment of this song was so urgent once upon a time. Somehow it still is.

@canadarules989 right on...plowed was one of fave tunes of the decade.
I was at that New Haven show too.Nov 22nd 94 or 95,they were so much better than Candlebox who were lifeless.Sponge closed with a Speed Racer cover running through the crowd.Blew everyone away.Wish they hadn't disappeared so quickly.
Come to St Clair Shores Michigan. They play once or twice every summer. Seen them last year with fuel
I find myself listening to this song even years after it first came out. What in the actual fuck happened to music?
My man's got a gold tooth. 1:52

Good 'Ole Sponge. I saw these guy open a show for Candlebox in New Haven back in the day...
That video was filmed in my old apartment. I was never reimbursed for the water damage.
Are you serious?
Damn that’s fucked up bro I just gave the video a thumbs down
awesome
Because of the name "sponge" I believe that is the reason they didn't become a staple in this genre.
There was also A LOT of good music coming out at that time. Unlike now. If you don't like rap, it's a desert.
I have a total scene written for this Song!
Sponge is in Easton Pa this Saturday the 15 th
Sponge, July 2019

This could have been a Black Crowes song
Sounds more to me like something from the band 'Live'.
