They still sound like a bargain.
But shipping is included!
the picture on the Emotiva website shows only a single pair of binding posts.. ?
And that’s $449 for a pair. Crazy high praise for such a low price.
@@word2RG the b2+ has two sets of posts. The b1+ only has one set
Just installed my very first stereo system, Emotiva TA1+ and B2+. I am blown away with the sound, it is extraordinary. Thank you for all the great reviews! This system is awesome!
I have the B1+ and love them. I agree with the Jamo but Emotiva comes out on top. The B2 are definitely on my next-to-get list!
I got the B1+ on your recommendation and now I got the B2+ as well. Outstanding sound, quality and value!
Great review. Knowing they have a "better" midrange than the B1+ means a lot. Some of us want a "flatter" sounding speaker so this one might fill the bill and not break the bank. And hey, I LIKE the way they look.
Erin at Erin’s Audio Corner says the midrange is still washed, and is completely unhappy with the B2+. Amazing how far apart their opinions are! 😃
@@dawolyan13 that was indeed puzzling, especially that 500 Hz shelf. But Erin has the measurements to back that up. According to Erin these would be slightly on the fatiguing side of bright. But then many people out there like far more expensive B&W and Focal speakers that are even brighter. Go figure...
@@dawolyan13 I don’t think that he likes anything.
@@Cheeba118 he liked both the KLH Model 5 and the Wharfedale Linton.
@@dawolyan13 Yeah, I like Erin and I've been a subscriber to his channel for quite awhile but I purchased the B2+ two weeks ago because I felt the $359 closeout deal was too tempting to pass up. Not to mention he was just about the only reviewer who didn't care for them. I'm powering them with an Emo BasX A3 and I'm really enjoying their detailed delivery of the mids and highs. I have no complaints and I feel they're a flat-out steal at the closeout price. Unfortunately, I checked yesterday out of curiosity and they're currently out of stock...maybe for good this time as Emo's new Airmotiv line is scheduled to arrive the first of the year.
The beveled corners around the tweeter have a real acoustic function - they reduce the diffraction. The lower corners are the for styling, to tie into the upper bevels.
(I recently got the B1+ speakers and the tweeter is excellent, and the overall sound is better than any other speaker that I have heard in anywhere near the price.)
High praise indeed. Thank you, Neil.
@@Simon_Hawkshaw The Elac BS41 comes the closest - I like its tonal balance better than the B1+, and after modding the BS41 - it is wonderful, and certainly rivals (and may exceed) the stock B1+.
You forgot to mention how sexy 😉 it makes them.
Like that old Prince song 🎵 👌.
Hi Neil, Just got the B1+ and am A/B-ing them with my current Elac BS41s in a near field setup. Incredibly clear/detailed highs, and feel almost too forward, but that just might be my brain adjusting to a new sound signature. The BS41s feel a bit less detailed but warmer/lusher by comparison. I'm curious to learn more about your BS41 mods? What did you observe after modifying them? Thanks!
Current setup: streaming USB > J2 DAC > Emotiva BasX A-100 > B1+ / BS41
@@mjstealey9100 After listening to the *stock* B1+ speakers for almost a week, they have broken in - the highs are cleaner/sweeter i.e they have a touch of graininess to begin with. The soundstage has more depth and cymbals sound more "real" with nice sustained decay. They lean vocals toward a breathiness, and a touch of emphasis on details. Both male and female vocals are a little less body/chest fullness, and are a bit forward sounding. Bass extension is greater than the modded SS-CS5, but less than the modded BS41.
Before I modded the Elac BS41, they have very good tonal balance, but have a fair bit of "smearing" in the bass and midrange, and even bit up into the lower treble, when the volume is turned up. They are better at lower volumes, and they only hint at the amazing detail and clarity and soundstage that they gain after modification. The stock crossover has a wonderfully flat and smooth frequency response. After modding them, they are better in every way than my venerable Snell Acoustics Type E/II *except* bass extension.
The B1+ are the best overall in stock form vs the stock Elac BS41 and the stock Sony SS-CS5. However, the both versions of modded Elac BS41 have better tonal balance - they play deeper and fuller, and have slightly better detail and air, and have better soundstage, as well. The "bang for the buck" BS41 is about $60 so even with MSRP $180, they cost essentially the same as the B1+; while the "ultimate" mod BS41 is about $90, so would cost as much as $270 altogether.
The better BS41 mod has some of the best detail and soundstage I have heard - and really doesn't need a sub to be fully enjoyable with a majority of music. The BftB BS41 gives up a touch of the super-clean highs of the better mod; but is similar if not slightly better than the stock B1+.
I prefer the tonal balance of the stock B1+ over the "ultimate" Sony SS-CS5 mod, but whether the midrange and highs are preferable, I will have to keep listening. For what ever reason, the Sony SS-CS5 has the least bass extension of the 3 speakers, even though it has the largest woofer. It's actual size is ~4.25" (measured from the outside of the surround to the inside on the other side - it is the diameter of the center of the surround). The Emotiva B1+ has a ~4.125" woofer, and the Elac BS41 is 3.25".
The Elac BS41 requires just a little bit more volume - only about 2dB or so; so that is the compromise in order to get the best bass extension and tonal balance. Which is not an issue - if your amp is pushed over the top by another ~2dB, then it is not going to be a great match for any of these 3 speakers.
My personal ranking at this point:
"ultimate" modded BS41, followed by BftB BS41
stock B1+, followed closely by the "ultimate" modded SS-CS5
In all stock form - the B1+ by a lot, followed by the BS41, and then the SS-CS5
Thanks!
Joseph! Thanks so much
I'm looking forward to hearing these. I hope they're as good as expected. Great overview. Looking forward to the full review! Thanks Randy!👍👍👍
Actual -3db point on the Emotiva B1+ was 70hz. It only gets to about 48hz by -10db. Manufacturers love to say (+ - 3db)and somehow do enough mental gymnastics to determine that means -6db. But in Emotiva's case they say +-3db then post the -10db spec. Idk why, I wish they would stop doing this since they're a great company with an amazing reputation.
That said, I love their B1+. Been rocking it for nearly a year straight and will probably try these bigger B2+ at some point also. Thanks for the review, Randy.
Indeed companies that have good reputations need to work hard to not screw that up by providing snake oil specifications. Consumers would be much happier and far more informed.
Considering the Hofmann's iron law, that 70Hz is actually true since B1+ dimensions are not great. Would like to add a small, decent sub to the system if you need some quality bass.
@@HaoNguyen-ut9pj yes, nearly all small bookshelf speakers benefit greatly from a sub. The key is finding ones that can be integrated well.
As an apartment dweller i hate subs. 1 its a great way to make enemies that you see every day. Also when your neighbors turn on dora for the kid at 6 am its a horrible way to get up. I like my lil system with my 6.5 bookshelf cabs. Maybe do a best apartment system list
You might try putting a sub on one of those Iso Acoustics Aperta sub stands and see if it decouples it enough from the floor that the bass stays more in your apartment than being transmitted through the floor. I've never had to do this, so I don't know if it REALLY works or how well, but at least that is what they advertise.
Lol I run.... Am running 10 inch acoustic research on mid low mid and top and 18 inch JBL cinema subs lol 🤣 everybody loves me
I love subs, as long as they're balanced with the music. But I can relate, I live in a Tokyo apartment. I sport a pair of Elac 301i Jets and that's enough bass for the place I have haha.
I'm having that problem but I been using my Sonys bookshelves everyone has been raving about and I really like them
@@BostonMike68 i have put isolation feet/pads under my stuff. It seems to help
Just got B1+ as my first "audiophile" speaker. I actually started to choke up playing songs with personal meaning.
When family members who aren't into music give you song requests, you know it's something special.
I've never had speakers this good. Cymbals "hanging in the air" make sense now. Adele's "Hello" was OMFG level of good. I owe it all to this channel and that live stream discount I got.
That, Spam, is what being an audiophile is all about. If your system doesn't induce an emotional response then it's not the right system. Glad you are enjoying your speakers.
@@jimfarrell4635Thanks, I'm really enjoying them, but I have a bad feeling I just bought the gateway drug of speakers lol.
@@spamcan9208 I started with the B1+. Then.. the C1+ center speaker for my home theatre . Then picked up T1+ for the living room. Then was like, hmm i should try the E1+ for surrounds. Then, i want to complete my 7.1 set up and got the A1s as rear height/back surround. Finally was like, hmm my AVR isn't enough for the T1+ in the living room, let me checkout the A2 amp. Yeah... It's a slipper slope into to the "upgrade everything!" rabbit hole. Love the sound though. And at least it's reasonably priced. So tempted by SVS Ultra speakers etc but would be twice as poor if i had gone that route.
Nice overview Randy. I just purchased the B1+ and have really enjoyed getting them setup, I could see these in my future. Since this is a new speaker coming out it will give me a little time to get ready. Good to know I have something to look forward to.
Hi Randy, Air Motion Transformer tweeters seem to be getting popular among Speaker Manufacturers today. Did you know there was a full range AMT speaker back in the 70's ? The pleats were designed to "squeeze" the air rather than pushing it. They did not last very long.
I need to stop watching your videos after 3:00pm.... All the coffee is keeping me awake at night.
Love my B1+s and will be ordering the B2+. Love the Emotiva sound , thanks ! Can’t wait for the full review !
How are you liking the B2+? I see they have them back in factory renewed models only.
Thanks Randy. These sound very tempting. I have a humble request for the full review. Can you try covering the ports and see how they would sound in a nearfield setup? Rear ports and shoving against a wall for a desktop system can get pretty rough.
Thanks for the first impressions, looking forward to the full review. The B1+ speakers were some of the best I've ever heard!
Great review and I'm always looking for bookshelf speakers that sound like those big speakers you put on the floor. Sounds like Emotiva has another winner.
Just bought a pair tonight!
Hey Randy, Thanks for sharing your opinion via email last week with me. I was able to order a set of these B2+ today. Had to use a mail forwarder as they do not ship to FPO AP addresses. Excited to get my ears on these bad boys.
Thanks Randy, I was debating between the Klipsch RP-600M and the B1+, Thanks for making it even harder for me…lol
Yeah that is something I am also debating. With the og RP-600M on sale now they are slightly cheaper, so it is tough. Would love to see a comparison.
Well did you choose yet? I wish someone would compare the 600m with the B1+.
the RP 600m is much bigger speaker. You should be looking at the B2+ to make it a fair fight! 🙂
@@stevomcsteve9492 it's a fair fight because they are close to the same price. $279 right now for the rp-600m.
I was playing a game & emotiva's ad was so interesting, I clicked on it! & Now I'm here! The good ads really do work! Great review vid.
I'm sitting here with my B1+ (desktop setup) and now I feel like I need to get these in for a listen...
The looks and design of the Emotiva speakers is exactly the reason why I continue to buy their products. It's good to have different options for different people.
I absolutely love the sound of a ribbon tweeter .
Can't wait for the full review Randy! I have to say, from what I have read and heard, even with the B1 makes me excited!
I love their amplifiers, I bought their A4 a few weeks ago and it's really a great value.
Hi Randy! Big Emotiva speaker guy here. I have a pair of T1+towers, C1+ center channel and 2 pairs of the E2+ surrounds. I love how Emotiva speakers look! Loved the B2+ even before you tuned it araound to show dual binding posts! A pair of these WILL be living at my house SOON! Thank You for another great video.
Although some may not like the looks of Emotiva speakers, the baffle design is good for reducing diffraction around the tweeter, which probably is one of the reasons as to why the highs are so clear.
I appreciate you discussing the x over rolloff and the effect it can cause. Often overlooked.
This is a tough category, the $400ish bookshelver speakers, but this might be the one to get. Competitors include the Paradigm Monitor SE Atom, JBL A130, Elac Debut DB52, Polk Signature Elite ES20, etc. Anyone buying bookshelf speakers should add a powered subwoofer down the line anyway.
So far i only own the center channel c2 and i love the sound and the look. I really love the look i can’t wait till i can get all my speakers Emotiva.
Great review and product. If I hadn't got my SVS Ultras, I would have upgraded to these from my B1+.
You know what’s funny is that the Amazing search for sound ends with speakers in the closet or collecting dust. I have Q150’s Audio Engine HD6’s Sony SS-CS5 Polk ES20 in the Garage barely used plus all the little Bluetooth speakers lying around it never ends! Oh and Polk T15 there somewhere
These would look amazing in white
Enjoy your channel. U convinced me to sell my old Paradigm powered speakers and pick up this speaker (and others for surround) and the pioneer av receiver.
Great review as always , thanks Randy. Was looking forward to this one myself! Half (almost) the price if my RP600M which were/are a little too bright with my tube amp. My Monitor Audio SA50 sound better but a weency bit small and low efficiency. These COULD be just the ticket.
Ooh, addendum…just checked the site, 86db and 4 ohm, maybe I can’t use with tube amp, hmmm
What tube amp are you using? Tubes and klipsch go together like peanut butter and jelly. i use the cheap chifi Douk ST01 / Ayima T9 as a preamp into my vintage adcom GFA 535 amp with a modi multibit dac with my RP60M's, and it sounds great, to me anyway.
Using the Reisong A10, sounded good with the MA but not very loud, got the klipsch cuz they are so efficient. But harsh and cybalent (sp?). Tried some different tubes and found a combo that helped, but i just don’t enjoy listening to them for very long unfortunately. Trying to find something efficient like klipsch but buttery like Monitor Audio. I have not tried an AMT tweet speaker, could be same issue, won’t know till i try. The bass and treble adjustments on PA1 aren’t doing it, thought another solution (to different speakers) is just get Schiit 6 band eq
Thanks Randy it looks like industrial design meets a speaker.
It's a crime to hide that sexy speaker. Prince 🤴 did a song about that speaker ( and the C93).Boxes are so 1980s. The receivers were/are very cool. Anything with VU meters gets my attention. Pure Sexy.
I need a speaker that sounds good at low volume levels.
This or the Triangle BRO3for the size and $. What do ya all (Florida boy) think on any others 🤔?
Great video 📹 👍
I was ready to pull the trigger on the T1+, but inflation drove the price up. How do you think the new B2+ would compare? Primarily HT with dual subwoofers already in the system.. Thanks for all that you do here at the channel!
The only downside with these for those on a budget is that the b2+ is a 4-ohm speaker that requires more power than most affordable AVR's can provide. You would have to purchase one of the Emotiva amps as well!
Just about any middle of the road stereo receiver will also be "okay" with driving these, it will just run hotter and may enter thermal protection sooner if you sit there with the amp running wide open near its performance limits (which you shouldn't really do anyway, or else you need a more powerful receiver). That's how it works in practice. If your receiver has current limiting, the current limiter may be reached sooner, but most people could use these speakers with an 8-ohm receiver and not have any problems.
Of course it is ported that’s how you get the sunny-d in
What is it with the looks? They are GREAT - and you know the baffle cut, giving it a 'jeweled' shape (I like) but more importantly it IMPROVES sound. You know this Randy but played to your audience naughty boy. The reduction of the front baffle size and the angled edges reduces baffle diffraction improving resolution.
I have the the T2+. Very nice big and clear sound
These look practically identical to the Adam AxX range, but passive and rear ported.
How do the Emotiva B2+ compare to the likes of the Elac Debut b5.2 or b6.2?
Hi Randy, Quick question the b2+ or ELAC Uni-Fi 2.0 UB52 ?
Hey cheap audio man have you ever looked at the c- note speaker kit from parts express. I just built them has an 1” tweeter an 5” woofer. Would like to hear what you have to say about them. Thanks Robert from Oxford Indiana
I too have been disappointed by the liquid retention properties of ported speakers.
I liked the opening sequence! 👍🏼😎
I finally pulled the trigger two weeks ago and purchased the B2+ pair at their closeout deal price of $359. I checked yesterday and they're now sold-out...quite possibly for good this time. Four months ago I bought the Emo C1+ at their close-out price and two months ago I picked up the Emo BasX A3 to power the front stage in my HT rig which is now comprised entirely of Emo gear. I'm really enjoying the B2+ with their detailed delivery of mids and highs. For only $359 I feel like I stole them....I feel dirty...not really :)
I've just ordered a set of elecs 5.2 2.0 I hope I'm not gonna be disappointed with my choice. I really like these also but they are hard to get in the UK for a decent price.
Love speaker reviews, but especially your reviews which are "a good ear with a down-to-earth perspective". I tend to agree with most of your opinions. As such, the B2+ being in the (now) $500 range and discounts and open-box on the Elac DBR6.2 put them at or even below $500... Both of which are notably high on your personal preference list. This begs for a shootout between the two!
I'm not even interested in another bookshelf, but this is good ASMR while I work :)
This is the best budget speakers!!! It will get good feedback and good selling.
Nice work! These are very interesting. I hope in the future review video you are able to compare/contrast these against the other speakers you have listed and recommended in the $400-$600 range.
I just upgraded my receiver to onkyo tx-nr7100 and now I want to upgrade my from my klipsch reference to something better, I was debating on these b2+ with c2+ and b1+ for the rears and maybe a2+ for atmos but seeing they are all 4ohms except for the b1+. Well my receiver work with no extra amp or should I just get some 8 ohm svs prime speakers.
What's that calming ditty over the opening?
Those funky angles likely provide positive defraction.
Hey Randy, sorry no "Mr. Ed" at Emo to speak with. I like the faux black leather with the macho looking enclosure but wish they gave one other color choice. Thnx for the review. God bless.
The CheapAudioMan did it again. You make me happy.
I did a true biamp today for the first time. Crown XLS drivecore 1002 on the lows, and aiyama a07 on the highs. Sounded great. And the gain controls on these amps provided some eq control.
I have a Rotel preamp, and used y splitters on one end of the RCA interconnect to hook up to the two amps.
Could work great on these Emotivas.
careful not to cross the streams. driving one amp into another can take them both out in an instant.
@@word2RG Yes, thanks. Just keeping the wiring straight is the biggest challenge I find in bi-amping. Just take it one step at a time. Having some different colored interconnects and speaker wires helps.
Great Videos! I wonder what the differences are to the T-Zero as they are similar in price
Looking forward to the full review as I'm looking to replace some Elacs and these look promising.
I added super tweeters to my tekton because I like AMT so much. 👍👍
I hope you get the T3+ in to review soon, that’s been on my short list since it came out.
If you were to get rid of all your speakers for good, but to keep two of your favorite one. Which one will be. ?And of course Which affordable amplifier ? Your answer will help me to choose my future speakers for movies and music. Thank and have a great one😉
Hi Randy, I have narrowed down my choice to the the Emotiva B2+ and the Polk R200. Pls. Let me know which of these would be better. Btw basis your review I picked the Aiyima T9 pro which would be the amp that will drive these speakers.
Hi Randy, What about LA90 & B2+? Have you tried this setup? After your review of LA90 - I am going to test it.
For me, these are good looking. Hope, I can give them a try. Thanks, Randy
Ok, you gotta do a review as Erin’s Audio Corner isn’t giving these speakers high marks and his data is pretty convincing to the point I’m thinking of canceling my order Emotiva for the B2s…
I have à small apartment and the b1+ fill the space easily so I think the b2+ would anchor the system
I tried to build speakers too. Often turned out unaffordable.
Great video my man definitely sounds amazing already, I’m still in the search for a amp/receiver to pair and really get the best from these speakers, any recommendations looking anything up to around $650
Hey Randy, I really like the new B2+ and I'm really interested in you doing a full review of the T3+ towers paired with an Emotiva amp. Please if you can and thanks again for your channel!
I had a pair of thr 5" for a minute. Did they fix the "s" issues? I was always wondered why no 6" speaker the lineup 🤔. Good for them. I imagine if you get over the looks ot would a great price/value proposition.
I love the looks!!
I hav all Emotiva speakers in my theater and I love them all. The E2+ are also great and don’t get my love on TH-cam.
Are you going to review the T3+? I am in need of some new towers and on paper they look amazing.
Ohhh I always look for new giant killers to bring to my local dungeons and dragons games
As you should
Ok Randy, I went all in and bought the B2+ with my military discount and spent all my lunch money on these. I may have to ask for a lender on the T9…🥺
I’ve heard so many good Emotiva stories. At the price point I’d expect crossover components to be pretty cheap. I used to have an excellent pair of tower speakers with bipolar electrolytic capacitors so obviously there is more to designing an excellent speaker than big film caps. However it shouldn’t cost much to replace the wires and caps with decently priced parts, decent film caps and some 5 or 6 nines copper wire and non magnetic terminals, forget forget the iron core inductors. A hundred bucks might take them to a new level. If I could afford it I’d try but I’m afraid of running out of pension money. Love to connect on patrion but? My biggest extravagance is subscribing to utube. Would make a great video for you to report on. I’d definitely watch it. I’ve looked at single caps that cost more than the speakers, too over the top but film foil would definitely have the lowest esr (equivalent series resistance).
Another great Emotiva Product! Great Review.
For a desk setup, I'm thinking B1s might be a better fit. Thoughts?
So the T-Zero towers have been on close out on their site for a bit…
I have the OG RP600M in a small 2-channel system and I’m looking for a second pair to slide in for a different flavor…it almost seems like a no brainer yet the B2+ have been well thought of by the few who have reviewed them.
There really isn’t much out there on the T-Zere but Gutenberg did do a good review where he said it wasn’t a great rock speaker which is a big thing for me although not a deal breaker for a second pair.
The T-Zero does have that mid range driver as too.
What are your thoughts between the two?
How do they compare relative to Elac Unifi 2.0 UB52 speakers?
can you recommend an affordable amp, subwoofer and turntable to go with this pair of speakers?
Hey Randy - if you had $400 bucks to spend, would you go with a pair of the Emotiva B2+ or Klipsch RP600M's?
Ok your channel has intrigued me. Well done. I've recently inherited my father's record collection and have since dove head first back into this realm. Bought a turntable and then bought a Sony STRDH190 (which seems to be a good starting point). Initially I bought a pair of Klipsch R51m and I'm unhappy with them. I can't put my finger on it but they're not appealing to my ears. All of that said, I purchased the Emotiva B2+ and impatiently awaiting their arrival. So, question for you: do you think the Sony 190 will be enough for the Emotivas or do you think I'll be missing out on Emotivas full potential? I can say I'm pleased with the Sony receiver, but wanted to get your opinion. Thanks and keep it up.
Randall, I have to ask how does this compare to the Ascend Acoustics CBM 170SE?
Do you prefer the Emotiva over the Polk Reserve series? I'm about to buy new speakers and I have it narrowed down to those two. Any help is appreciated.
Awesome review style. Just found your channel while looking for replacement speakers. Growing up in the 70's I had KLH model 6 w the funky 11" woofer; I replaced the dead tweeters with EMIT. Decades later, I replaced those with Def Tec DR7 bookshelf. Those after many moves are ugly and the vifa drivers fell apart. I'm thinking now is the time to replace with these. Thoughts?
I was with you until you said you were bought out with tacos. I mean, I could be bought with tacos too, so.....can I really trust you at this point?
Thinking about home theater for a smallish room, B2+ or Prime Bookshelf?
I wonder how these compare to the Adam monitors... the Adam T7 monitors are a doppelganger of this
I purchased the Jamo 93II very pleased over all except for the midrange frequency somewhere. Seems a little too scooped out and makes things sound thin/hollow or lack the character I hear with some other speakers.
FYI the 91 II and c 9 cen II are on a limited deal price of $139 and $129.96 (respectively) on Amazon.
Great prices for great speakers to complete or build a system with.
Hey man, great review. I have the Airmotiv 4s, and while the bass and treble are killer, the imaging has always been a little off, even compared to say a Koss headphone. Some songs are just not reproduced correctly. Maybe due to lack of mids. Also, there's a bass switch - one setting is too much bass, and one setting is not enough, lol. It doesn't really get the sweet spot. Would you say the B1+ and B2+ correct this stuff? Can't really find any info on it.
Does it matter if I use a non-Emotiva center? I like the look of the Polk ES35 and I could consider the ES30.
Thank you .
Considering t2+ or this.... t2 worth the extra space and money? Replacing klipsch rf7 ii
