I was stationed on Phu Quoc, the village of Doung Dong, in 1968 when I was in the Air Force. Loved it. I’ve been back to Vietnam (Vietnam Nam) several times in the 1990’s. In HCMC (Saigon), Hanoi, DaNang, Hoi An. A wonderful place with wonderful people. Highly recommended.
Hi, thank you for another beautiful video. I was in Phu Quoc for 3 days in December. We stayed on the western side, near the incredible Dinh Cau Temple. We loved that area. One day we drove up to the north for some Spearfishing and passed Vin World. I was shocked by it. It struck me as an oversized Las Vegas, but with most of the buildings empty. I’m concerned that like other resorts around the world it will give visitors a false sense of being in Vietnam, and worse that the effect on local businesses and people will be severe if all the tourists skip staying in the local communities. I love Vietnam and its people and I want to see all of them prosper, I just hope they don’t over develop the ‘party’ atmosphere I saw popping up everywhere and leave the locals behind.

I mean, the US has more than 3x the population, yet we only have 1 Disney World and 1 Disney Land. With that being said, it looks like a nice place. The ice cream shop is adorable! Love that bamboo architecture and all the local goods for sale.
Without COVID these houses would be sold like hot bread. These houses and apartments will be filled up when the economy is fully restored. Vietnamese people always look for a house that they do business in the first floor and live upstair. Quality houses and apartment need in Vietnam is enormous. Vietnam is a small country with big population, developper is smart to own this piece of land and built it up. They are rich enough to have employees to take care of these empty houses for years.

One of the best resorts and customer service i have experienced was at New World Phu Quoc and Phu Quoc beer is soo easy to drink. Shame they don't export it out of the island.

Phu Quoc is a great place to visit, I have been there many times, one of the most disappointing things is the amount of rubbish, the sea is full of plastic bags. I realise that this is a problem in Vietnam but I prefer to visit Da Nang now. The beach is so much cleaner.
Phu Quoc's government has been widely criticized a lot about waste over the years. Currently, they are investing heavily in building a factory to recycle trash (burn trash) into electricity. Phu Quoc is very clean now and will have to be cleaner in the future in the competition to attract tourists. Phu Quoc wants the VN government to allow it to become an island city and a special economic zone.
I have enjoyed your videos. One of the questions I have, I'm not sure you are able to answer. What is the political situation now in Vietnam? Is there freedom of speech politically? Are opposition parties allowed? Do people have freedom of religion? Are there any restriction on churches--can they proselyte ? Are people free to publicly criticize the government? Have you ever been questioned regarding your loyalties? Just wondering--I have heard you contrast Vietnam with the west but I have not run across any discussion related to politics or individual freedoms. Thank you for your good work.
Phu Quoc was so beautiful i feel like i was in towns in Disney Epcot, also, the place is so green, no outside gas shooters allowed. only electric scooters.
