  • What are the positives of spinal fusion?
Sometimes we only focus on the negatives of spinal fusion but this video gives my view of the positives fusion has given me.
I had my fusion 9 years ago now so hopefully this will give you a good idea of how fusion will effect you in the future, however everyone is different! The next video will be the negatives of spinal fusion!

I’m 13 and I was diagnosed with severe idiopathic scoliosis in November of last year. I’m having my surgery probably at the beginning or near my birthday of next year and I get really anxious thinking about the possibilities that could happen. I watched your negatives about spinal fusion too and after watching the two videos you have made me worry less and more happy about getting it since my confidence is lacking and it can be quite painful to deal with scoliosis for me. ❤️

Aw bless you! Sending you love. I was diagnosed about the same age as you, it can be a scary time but sometimes you have to trust in the science and your surgeons that they will do the best for you! Try to keep calm, it may be a long way off, just try to enjoy this time you have before surgery as much as you can! Sarah xx

Hey! Do you think a person with a spinal fusion can handle a college career like medicine?

    • @sarahlouise4066

Hey, I have been in uni now for 6 years (architecture) and college/uni is better for me than work due to its flexibility. This is very different though for medicine as it is a very hands on course and you will be on your feet a lot! This will depend on how good you are at being on your feet all day and how much pain you are in after this. I suggest trialing this (being on your feet all day) to see how your body handles this! Good luck and all the best for your future career! Sarah

i’m 14 and had a spinal fusion surgery 3 months ago and im cleared to do anything but the pain is still one of my biggest problems and just trying to get back normal is a struggle what do you recommend to do to help get back normal ?

Hi Maleeka, that’s great that you have been cleared to do anything! That doesn’t mean that you need to instantly push yourself to do everything though, give yourself time. I would suggest from my experience that going swimming may be good for you, it may help with relaxing and reducing pain as well as increasing your confidence to do other things. Also, try and give yourself variety in your day, a little bit of time moving around (maybe just walking) in between sitting or laying down. I wish you all the best for your recovery! Your doing great❤️
