I love it when GMs time goes to below 10 seconds and they start hesitating and looking unsure like us mere mortals
I agree kkk I think the same thing kkk
😂
How Magnus does that - getting a win out of a dead-equal midgame position - is a pure miracle. He sits in ambush waiting for his opponent to make a sub-perfect move, and then he attacks, just at the right moment. And when he attacks, there is no stopping him...
he is more combative and simply has a better physical condition
It didn’t feel like “waiting” in this game though, every move after the opening he was putting continuous pressure
I wouldn't say it was dead equal
its a blitz game. once it goes down to 10 secs its an open game
Not equal. Lots of tension in the position, especially the pinned knight throughout the game.
Finally digital board is there...thank you so much chessbase! It would be appreciated if it is added in other games too
Exactly
Imagine not being able to follow a game of chess… on a chess board.

Richard is a very nice guy... 👍
Classy, both players here
@@CarlHislop 👍
@@CarlHislop They're both in the highest rankings. Richard is not an entry level GM.
Thank you for the digital board with evaluation, make it easier to follow the action.
carlsen trying a new strategy of turning up to the board first
Magnus always has two queens against rapport's one queen
a bigamist
Queen C5 in Blitz would have thrown me off immensely. Kudos to both players
rapport did not take knight(f5) because then magnus can take knight(d5) with bishop(b3) and so on..@@MohammedAlRefae34
First time Magnus is on time at the table.. Even before he's opponent 😮
😂😂😂
I think that is a sign of respect. Richard is an amazing player and Magnus said he had one of his most exciting game against him another time.
but Rapport wins the battle of hairs as always.
One mindless pawn push and the game was gone
Qc5! was a nice move ☺️
Magnus spots the right exchanges in a flash
No one comes even close to him in that aspect
would you like to explain to me as a beginner, why Qc5 is a good move? did he try to sac his knight?
@@iCrestfalleN It's a complicated series of plays... the a4 pawn is now attacked by both Queen and Bishop, so if Carlsen takes with Bishop Rapport cannot retake with Ra4 as it will be hanging, and if Carlsen does take with Ba4 both of Rapport's knights will be under attack by Carlsen's Bishops, with possible check on White King which is why I assume Rapport played Kh8 (which probably wasn't needed but it happens under time constraints). Basically because the pawn was hanging Rapport was forced to go for damage control giving Carlsen the initiative.
@@PedroCerqu I think he saw that it double attacked the pawn, but didnt understand why the knight on f5 was left unguarded. It's because if 1 ... Qxf5 2 Qxb6, and the queen cant be taken since the knight is pinned on d5. So its a knight trade, but white ends up with a tempo on black's b pawn and forces black to waste another tempo defending it. Actually I think Carlsen actually calculated even farther, to 2 ... Qd7 3 Bxd5 cxd5 (basically forced, the queen can't take and unguard the b pawn) 4 Bxa5, which wins the a-pawn anyway. Guy is good at chess.
Richard Rapport looks so frickin cool even when he is lost or under pressure! I mean what is he made of??
Very likeable Chessplayer, seems like a gentleman. Magnus had his most exciting game in years against him in another video, Richard made a genius move and it went into a crazy two double queens ending and a draw. According to Magnus he wouldn't mind if he had lost as he had so much fun . Richard is a very high expert there.
At 7:46 Magnus could have checkmated him with Queen to F8. Why didn’t he do that? What am I missing?
Bg8
Bishop can go g8. Which can result in Queens capture
I thought the same thing I didn’t rewind far enough it’s actually at 7:20 where he could mate with queen.

@@TheRomanianWolfno need to be arrogant as hell.. the person was merely asking a question..
I got this same question 😅
Magnus made a lot of pressure on the king side which make him lost a lot of time of thinking how to avoid the checkmate just wow 😮
promoted pawns at this high level of chess has to be utterly satisfying
I am jealous of magnus 😢😢 how much he is better' guys like best if the beestttttttttttttttttttttttttt in chess like harta hi nhi sala😂
So nobody's talking about that Magnus arrived on time

01:10 small dot of DUST can also make disturb GM
"Camera shaking ..."
Me watching at 3 AM :
" Earthquake ? "
Wonderful commentary, thank you!
The move i like is a4
B coz it provokes a5
Before taking that d6 bishop with knight a4 move was probably the best move.
And Bg5 at the initial stage is aslo a provoking move f6
Yeah i see that move Bg5 before Magnus play him, but maybe better response for black is Be7 with losing control on e5 squere but good position on king side...
Looking at Magnus without knowing him and asking what he does for a living “oh, I’m probably one of the most consistent and most solid chess players ever. Been ranked #1 for as long as earth has existed, etc”
At 9:43 after Qc2 wasn't Re5 winning ? Bcuz it would attack the queen and also a check in the king at the same time ? It would win the queen right ? Someone plz explain me
Wow you are also a grandmaster i think no one saw that move
That rook is pinned to the king😂😂
No because he could just block the check with his black rook and it would just end in a trade of rooks
Probably the most talented player ever...the moves are just so natural for him, he has a feeling for position like no other.
I guess Bc7 better than Kh8 then no tempo gain when knight retreats - some interesting move order nuances in this exchange French !
It's So Rare To See Magnus Waiting For His Opponent 😸
mang eak pace
@@s.8.nThat's because he has little respect for his opponents but Richard is an exception he is one of the greatest person and chess grand master. I believe M has respect for him.
5:23 Magnus moves queen. Leaving Knight hanging, probably the craziest move. Yeah Pushing G pawn forks Queen and bishop but that's a bad position. Still tryna figure this one out
Rapport doesn't even take knight. Absurd, then Magnus retreats.
@@rockynenshati7391 they would just both be losing knights and it would be better for white (knight is pinned so the other knight is undefended)
Are you STUPID????
Wonder if rapport was still thinking about their game in last years championship?
At 8:18-8:20 GM Rapport played Nd6 . B6 looks like a Fork to me !

Didn’t Magnus had a checkmate at 7:20 with his queen??

He also had 2 queens against him last year in blitz 😀

I have a feeling these two are actually good friends
I concur, Richard is very highly ranked and extremely professional in his game and composure, a real class act and yet humble. Magnus has other talents but not all these.
I don't think Richard is a good friend of Magnus in that way, but I think they both like and respect each other though.
at 8.04 isnt Qf8 mate or am i missing something? Bishop can block never mind lol
Yes Bro...U are missing the bishop at F7.

Why does the engine start negative for white?
08:18 I think Mr. Richard should be doing move the pawn from b7 to b6 to threatening Mr. Magnus Queen and Bishop.
but, I know the pressure of competition is so super high.
thanks for the game.

I like it when he took the horsie
Could someone explain how that ended?
Black was dead lost, so he resigned.
Help me here I am no great chess player but at 8:05 when Magnus moves the rook from a1 to e1 wouldn't it have been checkmate if he had moved the queen from C5 to F8? The King would not have had anywhere to move and there would be nothing to eat the queen if it went there.
The bishop can still go back to g8 square so it isn't a mate

After Qc5 why didn't rapport play Q takes kf5 .what would have happened ?
I’m guessing Magnus would have taken the Knight on b6, which is undefended because the knight on d5 is pinned by Magnus’s bishop. And so, rapport moves his king, which alleviates the pin.

Can someone please tell me at 5:34, why is Richard not taking the knight?
I took 5 min to try to answer, but i am too inexperienced. My low skill guess is that it has something to do with protecting the King from the black queen but it's probably more sublte.
@@ericastier1646 that's the thing, I really don't see it. The rook protects the back rank, and the other knight protects this one, so there's no way for the queen to get in.
@@andreidinu7316 I agree, but i read two replies saying if Qxf5 then white Qxb6 . but i don't see why the black queen must stay to prevent that, it might me a longer sequence moves reason.
@@ericastier1646 that makes sense. It leaves the pawn on b7 unprotected, so the queen has to go back, you lose a tempo and immobilize the queen for a few moves, until you can reroute the bishop. It's messy and takes away your attack, which you don't want to do in blitz.
@@andreidinu7316 Oh, right, i see it now thanks, the b7 pawn is protected by the queen and that pawn protects the other pawn c6 which itself protects the pinned knight d5. If that knight is taken by queen, it looks bad for black.
