But then they got Dame and stuck with getting another championship. Griffin wasn’t hired to lead a championship team but a rebuilding team !!!
No way. The GM and owners know they are nothing without Giannis. It’s the reason they went out and got Lillard, to keep Giannis happy. They will do anything they can to keep him there, they wouldn’t jeopardize that by hiring a mid coach in preparation to blow up the team. They just made the wrong move, and aren’t waiting around for it to get worse.

not talked about enough was the resignation of Terry Stotz during training camp. he was the veteran bench coaching voice. there is belief that he left because he was working with the team more autonomously and not in concert with Griffin and that came to a head in front of the team. events like that can fast track a head coach loosing a team. Stotz coached Dame for years in Portland and he was going to be valuable to Griffin's success. where the blame lands can be sprinkled around - Griffin and Stotz for sure but then you can't let Ownership off the hook for the Griffin hire (hired before the Dame trade) and to some degree Giannis for leaning toward Griffin for the job vs Nick Nurse who is very much a defense first, championship winning hire that, per reports, was not what the players wanted after coach Bud. Giannis' leverage in that choice being his signing of an extension. This is an outcome (and we'll see if it becomes a failure) of ownership, senior management, coaching and players each playing a part.
Stotz aint the head coach. The issue Im sure Griffin was facing is that a lot of players on the team are also the players that won a championship years prior. You don't think they're divas now? If Terry Stotz was so important then take the damn head coaching job, but dont side seat drive me as a coach when Im trying to implement new culture and values, thats what you hired him for, or you could have just promoted Stotz... who Im sure had some feelings of entitlement as well. Who cares if he worked with Dame... he aint won a damn thing yet. Just because he made some shots dont mean he won one. I think there is confusion about how important Jrue Holiday was and is. When things didn't work properly, coach got the blame. They tarnished that dudes legacy and career. I hope they got what they wanted. Move over Patty LaBell these divas are coming thru!!!!
Amen marzdeep88… You know what new coaches do when they get hired? They COACH!! They evaluate…they observe…they listen to make sure the culture is what you’ve known good cultures to be as a 14 year assistant coach! Griffin got screwed royally. Stotz didn’t want to be evaluated and observed by a rookie head coach. He wanted to be there and do his own thing and be close to the first seat on the bench if things fell short of expectations. Stotz and Prunty were assigned to Adrian Griffin when he got the job! Can you imagine being hired to be the head guy, only to be told that these two will be your first and second assistant coaches!? John Horst didn’t trust Adrian Griffin the minute he hired him and it’s a shame. His authority was cut off at the knees from the outset by the fact that he wasn’t able to bring his own guys in to grow and develop as a staff. Good luck Adrian…there’s a better situation out there for you where you’ll be better appreciated
@@coachtylerjones2604 something seemed strange to me how they let Jrue Holiday go. I didn’t really understand it. Coming from the Pels I always felt like Jrue was the outsider to Middleton and Giannis who came in together. I thought with Middleton’s injury history, they would let him go before Jrue, especially considering you where gonna pick up Dame Lillard. Middleton’s skillsets is redundant to me. Either way, the first thing I thought is, they’ll have to rely on Giannis to dominate games to make up for the lack of defense. They’ll simply be no sufficient scheme that could hide Dame. If they keep Jrue, holiday can play true guard, and Holiday would have shot just well enough to get them out the East. It’s what’s going on currently, and that’s not Adrian Griffins fault, I think that’s front office favoritism for the home grown talent which I understand, but don’t throw year Rookie coach under that bus.
@@marzdeep88 Adrian Griffin was an elite defender when he played (9 years) in the league. He came up through the CBA, grindin, carrying his own bags, sleeping in cheap hotels, sittin in middle seats on commercial airlines just to play the game he loved. He was the defensive player of the year in the CBA and found his way to the Boston Celtics where he earned a starting spot in a Celtic lineup that included Paul Pierce and Antoine Walker. Rick Pitino brought him to the Celtics because he was a dawg!!…Fast forward to his days with the Mavericks when he started with Dirk Nowitzki, Steve Nash, Eric Dampier and Josh Howard. Adrian Griffin covered the toughest 2guards in the league while he was playing: Ray Allen, Kobe, Steve Smith, Tracy McGrady, Michael Redd, Reggie Miller, Dwayne Wade and yes, even (an older) Michael Jordan when he was with the Wizards…he knows defense like none other…and knows how to coach it! Those players realized early on that he wasn’t fully backed by the organization…and of course HE had to go…still s/m/h
I'm really surprised they didn't mention Jrue Holiday. The moment they traded Jrue Holiday, (5x all defense, 3x all nba 1st team defense even last year, also voted by his peers as one of the best on ball defenders in the league), they were going to take a massive hit defensively on the perimeter. Not only that, but Jrue was their starter, played all the key minutes and now you replaced him with Lillard. While Lillard is an upgrade offensively, he's not a good defensive player by metrics. It's no coincidence that Giannis has been complaining openly to the media about defense after that trade. He won't call out Dame because it's not all Dame. That team as a whole isn't locking down, but tbh, losing an anchor on the perimeter like a Holiday who covered for a lot of their mistakes hurt bad. Was it a good trade? Maybe, but Lillards contract does balloon to over 63/64 mil per year. Meanwhile, Boston, who has Holiday has been balling out.
The Bucks front office really should have considered where Jrue Holiday might end up, seems like they didn't consider him up and leaving Portland. Turns out he joined the biggest obstacle this team will have to overcome to make Finals.
True. Sending him to a place such as Portland where they were clearly not going to keep him is a risk for sure. I don't see Boston losing to anyone in the east, including Milwaukee. @@timgimmy609
Remember Doc coaching Philly against Nick Nurse and the Raptors in the playoffs. The game was well in hand, Embid was waving his arms in the final minutes like he was in an airplane and somehow, Spicy P hit Joel in the mouth. I thought, game is over, commanding lead, why is your # 1 still on the court, is he padding stats? I could not understand that, I wish him well, but that incident could have been avoided.
After losing Middleton in 2022 and blowing a 3-2 series lead vs our rivals, and then losing the next season to our other rivals who were an 8 seed will make any future heartbreak not so impactful
AG was hired BEFORE Giannis and Brook re-signed, before Dame was traded for. The landscape was completely different. Had the roster been already settled, I do not believe they would have hired AG. Still had to let go of Bud because he was always out-coached in playoff series because he was so predictable. Nothing against him, just time to move on. Doc... Well, at least all the teams he failed in the playoffs with never went on to win anything after he left so it can't just have been him holding them back. There have been a lot of player mentality and injury issues. But all of this still doesn't fill me with optimism. We'll have to wait and see. Hardly ever disagree with Chuck, but the players barely contributed towards the demise of AG. There's no way Brook and Giannis decided they couldn't be bothered with defence all by themselves. They are DPOY and runner-up DPOY. Of course the Bucks would suffer a defensive blow with trading Jrue, but there's no way they'd go from 4th to 21st.
@@souperstar7050 I miss JC so much. "When I woke up" lol. I agree, losing them didn't help but they weren't defensive anchors, either. JC was so small, and Wes was older and Bud had to limit his time both within games, and throughout the entire regular season to save his legs for the playoffs when, regardless of how effective Wes was, Bud would get out-coached.
I know it’s just the regular season but the sixers’ offensive schemes and overall playmaking is way way better than it was under doc (and we had harden at that time too!). I swear everytime chuck talked about the bucks he always said their awful defensively. Its turning into this is when kawhi lenoard became a great player story 😂
Changing the coach isn't going to make their defense better , defense , blocking out and controlling the rebounding advantages is a team effort and being efficient and capable of getting in the passing lane and maximum effort , hopefully Glenn "Doc" Rivers has learned from his mistakes and stubbornness and hardheaded ways , time shall tell !
I think this is just an awkward situation, a total mismatch. They did not give this man enough time to really get this team in shape. Once again, the team is trying to satisfy Giannis and keep him around. Like Chuck said, the coach can't make you play defense!!!
Any decent coach could have won with that team. That team was loaded. 3 hall of famers and a solid supporting cast. Chad B you could have coached that team and won.
My personal take is Doc is a great coach if your main goal is to make the playoffs …but, if you want to win a championships I don’t know if he gets the job done…Mike Budenholzer should still be the head coach the way Milwaukee got rid of him after winning a championship two years prior was sickening especially with everything personally he was going through at the time …instead Milwaukee is most likely paying around 20 million just to head coaches because they fire at the first sign of difficulty
Here's the problem with their argument - you don't get better defensively suddenly by having a new coach! The same dudes who are not playing defense with Griffin are now not playing defense with Doc Rivers, unless THEY decide to change. So like Chuck said, how is it on the Coach? This firing and hiring of a new coach doesn't change anything.
For once, in a situation like this, I'd love to see some team executives come down to the locker room and rip through the players and say 'hey, this is your coach, suck it up and figure out how to play defense or you're gone'
They traded away thier two defensive players in Grayson Allen and Jrue Holiday.... yet they wonder why they sucks at defense. Dame doesn't play defense.
Chuck is totally wrong with no head for strategy whatsoever as per usual. Defense is not just effort. If it was every player would be good at it. Part of defense is scheming and strategy which is on the coach. Adrian didn't put the Bucks in a defensive scheme that lead them to success. Having the bigs and guards high up led to defensive breakdowns and paint points that they were good at guarding before. Chuck's just an old head that fails to take strategy into account
Agreed- usually I am all for Chuck but he's been a hater this season. So quick to call the players menacing. These guys are veteran professionals, I don't understand how anyone can ignore process and business.
Firing Mike Budenholzer and trading for Lillard, Bucks ended Gianis's chances to win 2nd ring for that franchise. And with hiring Rivers they removed any doubt.
Shows you didn’t watch the games. Bud is a plan A only type of coach. Giannis saved his career by bailing him out in that Finals series. If they lost to the suns, bud would have been gone.
@@adaml7349 Mike is 10x better coach than Rivers. Hiring Rivers after Budenholzer is downgrade for any team. Any person who watches NBA knows that. I know for Bucks fans is hard to accept the truth, but that's reality for you now. 2nd round of playoff and that's it.
Dame just gotta be more efficient with his shooting. Instead of going 2/9 and throwing up bad shots and not playing defense is hurting the bucks but nobody wants to say it for some reason. If they were the 2016 cavs they should have giannis fill lebron’s role and relegate dame to the kyrie/robin supporting role. Also doc rivers is not a good coach lol he just was always gifted rosters with superstars
The issue wasn't just the defensive execution, though that was a part of it. Griffin was set up to fail because the expectations were NBA Finals Champions or bust as soon as Damian Lillard got in the building. I don't like the move, though I do understand why it happened.
If a first round exit as a top seed team is not failure, what the hell is 30-13? The team has now 99% likely killed its chances of winning a championship in the future because of their attitude and seemingly hasty transactions.
I get sick and tired of hearing all these ex players and pundits talk about how great of a coach Doc is. The guy is obviously a nice man but as a coach he is not great or good, just bang average at best.

It's the same thing that's been happening in corporate America for the better part of 20-30 years. Don't mistake my being vocal on the ridiculous nature of Doc Rivers' employment history as an official declaration of my ignorance.
Doc is the most overrated coach, still riding on that one chip.
That’s more than most coaches currently in the league right now. Stop diminishing his one championship. There are only a few coaches in the league right now that have actually won a championship: Malone, Pop, Kerr, Spo just to name a few. The majority of active coaches have zero titles to their credit.

That doesn’t change the fact that Doc still won an NBA title as a head coach. Sideline critics like you wouldn’t know anything about what it actually takes to win at that level. Please stop embarrassing yourself by disrespecting this man any further.
Doc bringing in Terry Stotts would be perfect.
And then Adrian Griffin can be the consultant
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled off is convincing nba teams Doc Rivers could coach
Thats wild its a ball game youre on about the devil 😂
This is just BONKERS, Sure, they went for Griffon because they didn't know if Giannis would stay but the trade for Lillard changed things. Less defense from the players themselves. Rivers doesn't help, it's a step back. Just wild stuff from the Front Office.
Kenny: "Doc can coach."
Doc: "Come on. Come on."
A reporter said they hired griffin only because they thought the bucks were bout to blow everything up because they didn’t know if Giannis was gone resign or not. But then they got Dame and stuck with getting another championship. Griffin wasn’t hired to lead a championship team but a rebuilding team !!!
Maybe so..
That makes sense
Just set em for failure either way. Give a first year coach a bad team on purpose and get mad when he coaches well with a good team.
But helped build a championship team with the Raptors.

Doc sucks. He won against a young Gasol and Lakers team with only Kobe as veteran and that with 4 HOF. Since the guy has a losing record with amazing players. He’s overrated AF. Bucks will find out soon. 😂
not talked about enough was the resignation of Terry Stotz during training camp. he was the veteran bench coaching voice. there is belief that he left because he was working with the team more autonomously and not in concert with Griffin and that came to a head in front of the team. events like that can fast track a head coach loosing a team.
Amen marzdeep88…
You know what new coaches do when they get hired?
@@darrengordon-hill because the media likes to create drama
Agree trading him was their biggest mistake
Jrue Holiday let Jimmy Butler give him a 50 piece in the playoffs , so much for defense 🤷🏾♂️
Just to be clear, the dancing was BEFORE the cavs game not after. And yes, they do that every night to get hyped for the game.

Doc Rivers will be the first coach in all of professional sports to coach every team in the league twice before he dies.
How long till Doc completely ruins the team's chemistry and then cries about social events for personal media attention?
Charles was a good defensive player. Really check out his highlights. Plus, Charles ALWAYS gave Top Defensive Effort!
Not only did the Bucks lose Jrue, but also Jevon Carter and Wesley Matthews. I think losing all three of them hurt the Bucks defense.
Doc was definitely part of the problem and I don’t see any possibility where he helps this team win it all. Idk what FO was thinking
@@bulletheat4u84676ers look like a real offense now because of nick nurse's scheme. Sure they were already good, but they just look better. People considered nurse the best schemer in the league in 2019 and the bubble year.
@@bulletheat4u846 I agree. Sixers are much better this season because Nurse is a better tactician. I'm just saying it can't *all* be Doc's fault. But he did hold Maxey back, he doesn't make great adjustments, and he can shirk responsibility. So... I think Doc has plenty of issues, just maybe not quite as many as ppl generally think.

Doc has been riding one championship for almost 16 years now
Any decent coach could have won with that team. That team was loaded. 3 hall of famers and a solid supporting cast. Chad B you could have coached that team and won.
Middleton is injured and dame cant play defense, yet they blame the coach... smh
Doc still riding that 1 chip from like 20 years ago! He overrated AF

The GM needs to go first if the team have to pay 3 head coaches at the same time
I am not sure about the "we all know that Doc is a great coach" part😒
Doc about to take the Bucks to the Playoffs and choke after a 3-0 lead.
I support Adrian. Milwaukee traded the best defender in the league. Duh! Coach can't slide his feet and stop anyone from the bench.
get ready to hear the 'there's no such thing as failure' speech again from Giannis and Doc throwing his players under the bus
That was a pregame dance, not a postgame dance

Chuck is a 💯 %...
They traded holiday for dame and everyone is surprised their defense is bad lmaooo! Then they blame the coach for it!
What a bad hire. I doubt they will win with Rivers. Even 76ers figured that out as did other teams.
The issue wasn't just the defensive execution, though that was a part of it. Griffin was set up to fail because the expectations were NBA Finals Champions or bust as soon as Damian Lillard got in the building. I don't like the move, though I do understand why it happened.
Break it down Chuck! 2 Legit 2 Quit

Worst hiring in NBA history
Jrue holiday went to the Celtics and now the have the 2nd best defensive rating in league
If a first round exit as a top seed team is not failure, what the hell is 30-13?
The team has now 99% likely killed its chances of winning a championship in the future because of their attitude and seemingly hasty transactions.
What they did to that coach was messed up. 43 games in and the team only lost 13 games. And they fired him. That’s messed up
Chucks was right. Bucks play defense against the Celtics and blew Celtics by 30 points. The players did Adrian Grififn bad.
