dang, I didn't even make it into the ones on the folder that didn't make into the video. It was still fun, and I am glad I was able to see some of the portraits I saw on IG weeks ago. Congrats to the top 3, those are some amazing portraits, great job!
Doing these helps us realize what we need to improve on. Doing my portrait I immediately thought of ways to improve and I can say I've definitely improved
I should not prefer to depend on my therapist , questioning myself even in such personal, subjective matters. If you are going to be an artist Your core vision will manifest anyway, and if it is about improving yorself, it will helpyou and guide you, even cure you, in the most autentic and trustfull way., as long as iti is not altered by the different , particular personality of your therapist.
Thanks Stan for running the competition and thanks Stephen for your advice. Yay I made it into the video, no win though, but it was worth it just to realise Stephen is a closet Leicester City fan. Better luck next time maybe. Thanks again guys.
Thnaks Proko for starting up these monthly challegnes they have been fun for me to work with. so far I've only missed by forgetting at least 2-3 of them. But I have been slowly getting back into drawing again all thanks to these. :)
I’ve never really thought about it but I agree with Stephen, drawings do have a “under drawing'' similar to how paintings have an “under painting”. In these “under drawings” we lay a foundation of forms and planes that may not be translated to the final outcome but it’s a crucial step.
Wow! You are an expert in portrait painting. You draw very well depending on the location because you take advantage of the features. I learn well. I will come back often. I also draw pictures, but it's still too difficult for me~
Wow so many amazing entries this month!! Congrats to the winners! And I cant believe mine got in the video on a scroll by! Staring at 19:24 (the one with four photos of the 3/4 view chick with the blue background) X3
Oh jeez..! Jeff Watts will be the Judge for the next challenge! This is getting more interesting! Love Jeff Watts to be the judge. He is phenomenal art teacher. Can't wait for his thoughts!
Proko's work is so amazing.... He inspired me to open up my own TH-cam channel recently with anime art and recommendation content in it.... But I don't have much people engaging yet so that I can start up making a fun community
It's not that specialized in anatomy 👀 he has a bunch of other courses in plan for the future, and he started with portrait, basic figure drawing and then anatomy teaching, he'll go with a basics course soon and he's also working with marshall vandruff on a perspective course, I think In the fundamentals podcast he shows a peek at the whole bunch of courses prepared for the future...
I was going to participate, took some reference photos... and then I got terrified of having a pro artist looking at my work. I feel so silly now, seeing how kind and respectful he was in his comments. Now I'll have to get over the fear of Jeff Watts seeing my work... assuming the challenge is something I'm interested in.
Hello! I am a student whose dream is to be an illustrator living in Korea.😂 I am studying by watching your video for 5 hours every day.😴As a result, my skills naturally improved and I always appreciate it😍. Thank you.🙇♀️
Because it began and ended in August. Made sense to me. I’m pretty sure he announced the topic for September before September first. Does that no longer make it a September challenge?
I would love to hear a critique of mine by Stephen, but I get that there were just a lot of entries. If anyone wants to give feedback on mine, my Instagram is Kitten Bombs. Would love to know how to improve. Maybe next time I can make the cut.
I saw a glimpse of mine in the folder! 😶 I really enjoyed this challenge, and the critique was also helpful, even if mine didnt get critiqued by Stephen
There's something distracting with your face, can't tell if it's the light or some strange color you "trumped" on it. I guess you have to change your makeup artist.
I find it interesting - negatively so - that he's _significantly_ more critical of the pieces done in physical media as opposed to digital, something anyone with rudimentary skills could learn to use as opposed to proper traditional media which takes a hell of a lot more time and skill to hone as a craft. _Definite_ bias there, unfortunately. I mean, I'm also biased, but I'm not critiquing others work where you'd expect some level of impartiality.
The value of a work don't resides in how difficult it is to make it, but in how you articulate the visual elements in a effective way of expression. And media control is the easiest skill to grasp in image making. I agree that traditional media is more difficult to control, but in the end, is all about the final result.
I find he's more critical of the higher tier traditional realism work, where as the stylistic or less skilled pieces, he's kind of impartial too or atleast says something along the lines of "Very creative, keep it up". This is a recent mindset of art teachers: they dont discourage the starting artists with harsh critique, but the useful words go to the savants.
I think that we tend to look with a greater degree of scrutiny on the mediums we are most familiar with. I've been working in atelier education since 2004 , so for me that's figurative work in traditional media. I think it's a good thing though- I probably have a bit more technical advice for artists working in traditional media. Certainly didn't mean for it to sound harsh 😅
The next Prokochallenge starts September 1st! Rules will be published on @prokotv instagram.
Ok
Proko love you always and please meet CESAR SANTOS again within a fantastic questions as a previous one........ love uuu
I gonna participate
I’ll make it on the next vid this time!!!
Honestly I just wanted to make it into hearing Stephen Bauman's thoughts on mine (16:00) and I couldn't be happier
You did amazing! Keep it up!

My therapist recommended your channel as an example of a good creative painting channel. I look forward to following along.

Perfect, I did not appear in the video 💀
a lot of good ones didn't :/
Yeah man it’s okay! I didn’t get in the first time I did. Just keep on going! Don’t let this discourage you!!

That was a really informative feedback session. Thanks to Stephen for taking the time to do that and congrats to all the winners.
So many great pieces. Congrats to all. I don't do portrait often but it gave the motivation to make more.
Really excited for the next challenge.

Proko channel is a free art school that specializes in anatomy

I don’t think there’s much objectivity to what he decides is best. More like his personal taste and subjective sense of why a piece deserved to win

Pretty boring choices. :/ I mean technically the winners are phenomenal of course.
