Yeah, the tragic downside of having a semblance that strengthens your resolve and allows you to hyper-focus is that it basically gives you tunnel vision. You kick on the gas, you’re only going in one direction.
I can't lie, this video really changes the perspective of Ironwood's semblance. And it's a great callback to the Tin Man and why he became made of tin to begin with. The Tin Man, when human, had fallen in love with a girl in his village. But her mother was cruel, and wanted to keep the daughter to herself to essentially keep her as a slave. So she tasked the Tin Man with a seemingly impossible task; he was to build a functioning house and have a stable income on his own. That was when he and her daughter would be permitted to marry. But the mother underestimated his determination, and the Tin Man, still human, was finishing his task far more quickly than she thought, having a stable income of chopping wood for a living during the day, and working on building the house after work. In order to stall, she makes a deal with the Wicked Witch to stop the Tin Man from finishing his task. As a result, the witch enchants his own axe and has it cut off his leg. But he has it replaced with tin, and carries on his work. This is a repeated process, going back to chop wood even knowing that the witch may enchant his axe again, and this keeps up until he is entirely made of tin, At the end of his story, the Tin Man admits that it had started to become less about being determined to being with the one he loves, to sheer determination of simply just going, despite the risks and common sense. He briefly wonders why he was still chopping even after becoming fully tin, and he reflects on why he still went on despite the fact that he in his eyes can never be with the woman he loves, cannot feel love for her, and may have even found someone else by that point. RWBY has quite literally retold the Tin Man's story throughout the series, and they did it in such a subtle way that was honestly brilliant.
that's probably how he got some or all of his prosthetics, so except for having a lover, this is totally his backstory. speaking of which, there have been some hints that he and Glinda might have feelings for each other, is she the girl in this story?
I don’t think I would count reaction channels as rwby channels because it’s just a reaction not really in depth lore and theories. But yes his content is amazing.
Ren’s “people say” theory Of Semblance awakenings according to the individual makes more sense Torchwick never felt like he needed one. No Semblance (never mind the production notes!) Schnee is hereditary but each member has their own moveset. Winter didn’t pull in Qrow to kick his ass! XD Who knows what Neo loved through to want/need the Looking Glass Semblance? Ren? “It... THEY CANNOT FIND US...” Of course there’s the occasional HIT BY LIGHTNING case XD
@@Ramsey276one sweet! Here they are; The Verandertier(s) (from tier verander, German for "changed beast"), are creatures (types of animal life to be exact) native to the world of Remnant, being direct and indirect descendants of the planet's original inhabitants (who occupied the planet before the Gods remade it as they please, thinking it was a blank slate). Like the Grimm (but having no relation to), they often pose a threat to to humanity. But UNLIKE the Grimm, which do so for the sake of it and live to do so, Verandertiers attack out of a sense of self preservation, defending territory and young, or otherwise "misbehaving", being neither good nor evil. their unique status as lifeforms not made by the Gods and the unstable, chaotic, and always changing ecosystem the planet used to have, the Verandertiers are capable of "improvised ontogeny", a mutation like metamorphosis that allows an individual animal or other lifeforms to adapt to a variety of situations and to enable rapid evolution. An animal or person becomes one if they have a "V base" in their genetic makeup that then activates by various causes, usually life threatening ones like allergies, toxins, extreme injuries, etc. (More specifically, the improvised ontogeny is how a normal animal actually becomes a Verandertier, and that Verandertiers are "descendants " of Remnants original inhabitants in the sense that the V-base came from a certain lineage of the latter that survived just long enough for the V-base to cross paths with and somehow inherited by precursors to a select few, if any, of each modern species, which is how almost any animal could have a V-base yet Verandertiers are rarely seen). The resulting form is usually superior to its original counterpart in at least a few ways. As you can tell, a lot about these guys is biological and natural. This is because I am a HUGE fan of bringing creatures to a context like this, justifying why and how beautiful creatures do the things they do. They're also like this to differentiate them from the demonic Grimm, which to me, the huntsmen would be very used to at this point. So something new like the Verandertiers popping out of the blue should provide a couple of interesting and unique challenges for our heroes and villains. What do you think? Anything specific you like?
I hope ironwood comes to his senses before the end and atones for what he’s done in the only way he can.... To quote a great spiderman villain “I will not die a monster”.
I actually think Ironwood is in the right, like yeah he shot oscar I'm not calling him perfect. But team RWBY isnt actually helping with anything and they withheld some important info to Ironwood when they met him about saylum but they get up on their high horse and lecture him on keeping secrets from he public. And then season 8 turns him into a murderer for absolutely no reason, he had 0 reason to kill the council men amd it was a complete 180. Just my opinion
@@chatyxd6078 Out of curiosity is it confirmed that the Councilman died? I can see it as more of a warning shot especially since they seem to be in a medical facility.
You think Volume 7 would have turned out better if someone had the curiosity to ask about his semblance? Perhaps Ruby and the others could have understood him better before it was too late.
True it would have helped quite a bit. No one in RWBY really asks others what their semblance is though, I think it's because it's so personal, the physical manifestation of ones soul can tell a lot about a person and possibly their experiences, etc.
Imagine if they distracted him with planning a party or something and then his semblance is so focused on that, he would just ignore the part about Salem coming to Atlas
@@PhoenixNight Yeah, it's a pretty personal thing. However, it can also be important to share one's semblance with others, especially if going into a dangerous situation. Imagine, for example, that at some point before the Ace Ops turned evil, a high voltage cable got loose and fell towards Nora. Harriet rushes in to protect her, pushes her aside and gets electrocuted, and then her aura breaks.
@@BassProHunter14 Well, Oscar has little experience dealing with huntsmen, and doesn't know "huntsman etiquette" either, so he doesn't know how appropriate it is to ask someone about their semblance.
I interpret his semblance more like this: Every problem, every different solution, someone gets hurt, someone dies, I lose... The doubt makes you stop, you can't move. It is easy to just hide your feelings in a chest and lose the key, the feelings start to accumulate and are about to explode, I can't doubt again. Let's just turn off my feelings and nothing will stop me, being a heartless robot is far more easy than a human. Is my analysis told as if I was ironwood, a semblance that could lock his feelings away or even shut down his heart.
Agreed, I really like Ironwood as a character and it hurts watching him go down this path even though it does make sense. This Volume will hurt in many ways and sadly Ironwood may be at the center of a few of them
@@PhoenixNight It will hurt more than Pyrrha's. I realized that much like how Qrow's Semblance shaped a good chunk of his cynical personality, Ironwood's Semblance, I think, has largely shaped his decision making. Because he hyper-focuses and never second guesses himself all the time, his lack of trust in others is a byproduct. It saddens me he has gone down this unpleasant path, but soldiers follow orders, no matter how grotesque they can be.
Throughout all of history, Leaders have had to choose between one of two choices: Pragmatism and Principle. The tragedy is that they tend to fail when they stick too close to one or the other. If one values Pragmatism too much, they will do absolutely anything for survival even if it means going against their very beliefs and everything they hold dear to the point they ultimately stand for nothing. They pat themselves on the back knowing that they did what they did to survive while standing atop the bodies. If one values Principle too much, they become absolutely rigid and uncompromising in their beliefs. Never bending their beliefs to anything even as people around them suffer when bending would help people in the long run. They pat themselves on the back knowing they didn't compromise their beliefs while standing atop the bodies. The former essentially becomes the Devil that becomes the thing they hated. The latter becomes the Angel that makes the rest of the world a living hell. And that's not even considering the conflict between Intention and Outcome...
@@Mark-fc7tu At worst, they cling too closely to principle and just claim moral superiority that they never abandoned their ideals while god knows how many suffer for their lack of compromise. It tends to far better to do the right thing rather than let how society views you influence your decision. It's a sad thing these days, people care more about being popular and having a good reputation than do the unpopular, yet necessary thing.
@@Cykeys Yeah. Of course, there are many stories that have long aesops on how empathy and compassion are always more important than pragmatism and hard work... which can get annoying after a few shonens too many.
This reminds me of a conversation with my friends and I said I feel so bad for iron wood and I'll stand by his side no matter what and this is why I feel like he just need a hug
This reminded me of the scene when he first met with RWBY and crew for the first time in Volume 7, where he actually /did/ pull Qrow back to just hug him. It was so wholesome.
I don’t know, I do believe peace over violence is a very well idea to do against someone losing it. If you’ve seen the latest episode....I don’t think he’s coming back.
I hope that he can be saved and maybe redeem himself. But honestly, I'm with you. I don't see him coming back after how far he's now gone unfortunately.
I feel bad for him and sympathise with him but he’s committed heinous atrocities- shooting Oscar, abandoning an entire civilisation, leaving hundreds and thousands to die.
Ironwood's situation reminds me a lot of something Blake said to Ilya in volume 5: "You're a good person, but you're making all the wrong choices." I would still call Ironwood an antagonist rather than a true villain; he is certainly an obstacle to the heroes of the show, but his fundamental intentions are not evil. The issue is that, as Phoenix said, his semblance seems to be influencing his decision-making by preventing him from considering alternative actions or other people's advice once he's made up his mind. So while Ilya, despite responding to Blake that "I don't know what else to do", was able to see an alternative and seize upon that way out before it was too late, Ironwood may be physically incapable of finding a different path. I also don't think anyone will be able to convince him that his semblance might be clouding his judgement, since any insinuation that he's making his decisions less than objectively (i.e. due to fear) seems to trigger his most violent responses.
I agree to an extent, I feel like the writers are trying too turn him into a villian when I see him as the hero right now. He made mistakes but he actually has a plan, all team RWBY wants to do is stop his plan from my perspective. Also the whole point of season 7 is team rwby telling Ironwood to tell everyone the truth(while they keep a secret from him about saylum) and he listens, he spends the whole season cooperating with everyone and look where that got him! My opinion
dumb choice, they gonna get rid of a man who carried volume 7 just because everything in this series has to be black and white, and team rwby always has to be in the right
I didn't like ironwood when I first started watching rwby, but as I've seen him grow and become the person that he is I've come to like him, but I don't think he'll snap out of it at least until he dies, In the end I think qrow will be the one to kill him and he will snap out of it then and thank qrow for freeing him from his curse
I still dont see why Qrow wants Ironwood dead, like why doesn't he want revenge on the actual psychopath. Not too mention he literally teamed up with him during their 1v1v1 battle and then let get away, it was a fight with a murderer what did you expect. Just my opinion but I think Ironwood is the hero, until Roodterteeth changed his character into a tyrant when there was no actual reason for it.
I believe that Winter will help Teams Rwby and JNPR by taking advantage of her position as Ironwood’s right hand. I highly doubt she openly oppose him, but reinforce Ruby’s group discreetly by possibly feeding them information
@@greyworld6242 That would be so great. Imagine Weiss getting a text from Winter explaining Ironwood's semblance, and it also has a "by the way, this is how I used this to my advantage" section. And then they let themselves get captured to get close to him, and use his own semblance against him.
I wouldn't be surprised if that were to happen. On top of what happened in V8C1, Ironwood was basically ordering Winter to fight her own sister which no one in their right mind would do unless given one hell of a reason to do so. Heck the fact that she was wounded aside, she blatantly told Weiss to run.
I actually think she’ll end up killing him, by accident. Bc he might try to kill her sister & she stops him from doing that. Pretty sure everyone is gonna abandon him anyways so 🤷🏻♂️
Maybe mettle partial boosts his physical skills like his aim. Hyper focus like hitman agent 47. It would explain why he is mostly metal. Also it might tie in to what Ren said on volume 5. Semblance is based on an aspect of a character or the character is based on their semblance. How does one know if their semblance is active or passive it seems like the passives are the rarest of them all.
To add to the hyper focus part I think his increase mettle would push aside any mental distractions like fear or doubts, letting him focus 100% on a fight.
Honestly when I first got to know General Ironwood’s character back in volume 2 I expect him to be strong, brave, and end up having a happy life with Glynda.....Now at this point I feel as if he is making himself a walking target for multiple people.
@@kingraplhmativo5178 hey stfu Tai yang is barely normal since he got it on with two of his teammates and maybe even Qrow if they were both bi Guy literally banged two of his teammates powerful ones as well
I was imagining it like that, a dictator who's horrible actions lead to the fall of his Country, all while he rants about how its everyone else's fault.
I always loved ironwood as a character, I person who thought he was doing the right thing...or at least the best option despite everything saying otherwise, and now that ive seen this my love for his character has only grown
In some way I can see a parallel between Ren and Ironwood now. Both of their Semblances effectively rob them of emotions they should/could feel in a given situation, giving them an otherwise flat affect. Great if you need to keep calm, horrible if there is a moral aspect to the decision to consider.
My theory for Ironwood is he will snap out of it, and everything he's done throughout 8 comes crashing down on him all at once, once he does, and he isn't going to be able to handle what he's done, and will most likely take his own life because of it😞
11:43 If ironwood's semblance had a effect in his free will. Then that makes his past more tragic. And possibly partially a reason. As why watts joined salem. (As for why i think it makes his past more tragic.) Phenex's incident theory, about how ironwood's body. Became the way it did pre-vol 7/8. What if his semblance had awakened before that event? Or what if the event had caused it to awaken?
To be fair, team RWBY are largely responsible for his current state. Lying to him and going behind his back, and other seemingly minor things in their eyes have driven him to this point.
I mean in my opinion they probably should have told him earlier, but I see why they didn’t tell him right off the bat. Last time they did that Lionheart betrayed them and considering the state of Mantle, so they were rightfully being cautious. It really was just a bad situation in general
@@kawaiicamybee but he explained the state of Mantle and all his 'paranoid' actions. And giving them back the relic was a massive sign of his trust for them.
Honestly this is an amazing video man, I had no idea that they have mentioned Ironwood's semblance, and this would explain a lot of what is happening. On what I think next, I really hope Ironwood comes out of it but doesn't just die, for two reason's one: my boy has been one of the few actively trying to fix problems and protect people first in Vale and now here and I respect that, though he has made a lot of wrong choices along the way. Number two this could really be interesting if he lives, we get this a lot in media, person starts out as ally turns against then has a change of heart near the end and either dies or 180's on his viewpoint that brings him here. If Ironwood snaps out of it and help's RWBY out the end of the volume as Salem is winning but still the man he is then we have this cool story of someone who was an ally moved apart from mc's on moral viewpoints became a villain ( lets be real here he's at least teetering I was going to make the argument that maybe he didn't think he'd kill Oscar because kid have aura and bullets dont do much in this show, but that was big drop behind Oscar and no one coming back from that.) But with some validity, have Salem nearly get the relic whne the Ace ops leave to help RWBY defend some civilians but the real attack was on the vault and only Ironwood was able to stop give him reason to keep thinking he's right. But have both sides realize they need the other to survive. That way not only do we have the Atlas forces in the final fight so humanity actually has a good chance but also, instead of it just being welp where out of allies here off to the next school, have them all there three party's all with different view points, i'd make so great scenes, have the Shade headmaster defend Ironwood have Winter beret him have ruby and him argue where we find out how he got his iron body maybe Mettle came into play in his younger career and instead of running from a unwinnable fight, but with people he needed to protect so he used his semblance and won but at a cost, he's semblance always coming with a cost, just my two cents. It, it would make some great scenes not i'd.
I'm so happy that you exist to explain all of the great things about rwby. So many seem hellbent on attacking everything about it and point out perceived faults in the show. I always love to watch all of your crazy theories!
I know some people think that his semblance is really stupid but I think it makes a lot of sense for him. Think about his life, even before we really knew about him. The extent his prosthetics go, the time and will power it takes to learn how to use them and relearn basic functions such as walking, I honestly think that was the time his semblance revealed itself. He had to be resolved in the decision to learn that much. He couldn’t allow himself to waver or let his emotions get in the way of his goal, which was probably returning to an at least somewhat normal life. Then there’s the added resolve needed to hold two seats on the council. Ironwood’s semblance really does fit his personality and has many upsides that are outweighed by the risk of it activating on a passing though. It honestly adds so much to him as a character.
Damn, this is incredible. I had no idea that was his semblance. It really sheds new light on his decisions of Vol 8. I need to re-watch everything about Ironwood now through that lens.
Hello Phoenix I’ve been with you for a while and I’d like to say, that I love your content and personality. Your voice is soothing and inviting and it sometimes helps me sleep even with my insomnia, so thank you for this and apart from that I am thankful that you don’t participate in any drama and have actually interesting theories. I adore you.
Just letting you know in case you don’t, try listening to ASMR videos. It helps with my insomnia and millions of others too. You may already know about it, but if not, check some videos out. Took me a while to get into it at first as I thought it was weird but I’ve been listening to ASMR videos every single night to help me sleep for about 7 years!
Thank you so much for your kind words and support, it really means a lot! I'm really glad you enjoy my videos and I'm glad they've been able to help on occasion. I hope I can continue to make content that you enjoy 😊
If I’m being 100% real I don’t believe james is evil or will ever truly become evil he’s still fighting for the side of good he’s just not a “hero” he falls in more of the grey category in my opinion
I really like the idea of a passive semblance video. While it only applies to one of my OCs, I'd appreciate getting some fine details. I also love how broad semblances can be. I have a really interesting one for a villain. I was unsure if it would work; but thanks to videos like this, I'm not nervous about it. It's a special form of mind control. Making someone more carefree with their words. Making it hard for them to keep secrets. Not just codes to vaults, or what security is around. Attitudes towards co-workers and friends. What hurts most for people is that it's not making up a lie: it's revealing how they (at best) used to feel. At worse; they still feel that way. ----> Edit: Loose Lips! I'm calling that semblance Loose Lips.
I wont blame Iroonwood for his decision. He is a desperate man making the most of a desperate situation. For me he is an invidiual of will and conviction. I hope the decisions of team rwby would come back biting them at the back, showing you cant save everyone
Yup. Since the start, one of the show themes has been "This is not a fairytale." I want crwby to live up to that by having Team R deal with tragedy and loss. Lasting one that doesn't come back 4 volumes later with the same mind and an upgraded body.
While listening to this, the first thing I thought about was Inception and the more I think about it. It's kind of like his semblance is doing that in a way? Planting a thought in his mind that he can't forget
Well, now I feel kind of sorry for him. If this is his Semblance, well, nobody can choose what their Semblance will be...now I kind of want to give him a hug.
To me, that sounds like the absolute worst-case scenario that just occured. Mettle on it's own isn't the worst of traits, if a bit disturbing with how unwavering you can be. However, considering one big fact, mainly that his entire attidue changed because of fear, means his semblance activated on a fear-motivated decision. Meaning he is essentially have a unwavering resolve on a decision he made out of fear. It wasn't rational. Ironwood always wanted to be rational BECAUSE if he ever went not rational and made an emotional decision, Mettle would activate and he'd become unwavering on a impusive decision. Just like now. Sending away the relics to protect against Salem is an emotional decision, seeing a close picture instead of big picture. But when you have a semblance where you can easly become unwavering on any decision..... you can lose sight of your goal, ideals, simply based on fear and emotion. While tragic, this is more of an explanation rather then excuse- shooting innocents is a war crime, regardless of intent, and while you can make an argument that Oscar wasn't "an innocent" (There is some plausable deniabilty Ironwood could do, considering they were alone), shooting an council member in front of everyone, someone who is barerly even a threat, is a pretty clear cut statment of how much Ironwood truely fears inside, but thinks this is the only way.
As a psychology major, Ironwood is my favorite character in RWBY. Like wow, what an interesting (not morally good, but interesting) guy. I'm really looking forward to seeing what he does in the future.
I really love ironwood as a character and I just hope he has a chance to redeem himself WITHOUT dying. He’s a good person being pushed by the things around him,and trying his best. Even if it’s not the best way of going around things,he’s doing what he thinks will help everyone. Once this stuff gets handled I’m curious to see how he’d react and deal with the Consequences of his actions.
I really hope this comes up, especially with Qrow determined to take care of Ironwood himself. Maybe he's the one that delivers the Aura-breaking blow to Ironwood and knocks him back to his senses, giving an opportunity to draw parallels between the two's Semblances that you pointed out yourself, and Qrow's hatred for this man turning into pity
The hell are you talking about Ironwood not being trustworthy because of his semblance he's been nothing but trustworthy since the beginning of his character introduction. I think he stopped trusting Ruby and the crew because they kept lying to him. Hi is perfectly reasonable in his assumptions and actions honestly.
I think Ironwood is still has his free will. The way he spoke when he thought it was Winter in the finale *volume 8 mini spoiler warning -* And in the hospital in chapter 1, he was much more calm and sympathetic. So far I think he chooses to only relax mettle around Winter but strengthen it for his decisions.
I really like these analyses a lot. The thing that bugs me most about RWBY is how much goes on behind the scenes and justifications for "stupid" or "out-of-character" decisions that never reach the audience through the show itself. Mettle being the source of Ironwood's turn, something only mentioned in a panel of all things, makes me feel kind of cheated out of what could have been a strong character moment if communicated properly. I absolutely adore the world of RWBY and the possibilities that lie therein, but the show just kind of falls flat without the information that these videos cover, so I would like to thank you. Now, I can appreciate what makes RWBY tick and enjoy the narrative.
Nice video and interesting view overall. Another think I was thinking is that Salem's semblance( or one of her spell) is to affect and amplify emotions. This is what she used to make Hazel so angry at Ozpin, Watts so envy of Pietro and Lionheart so afraid. And she could have used it on James as well. If both view are true, his mind as of must be a fucking mess.
Ok, I heard the semblance wrong as Metal during the RTX, instead of Mettle 🤣. Thought it fit as Ironwood being the tinman inspiration. We have seen his semblance action in volume 3 as he was steadfast on getting his airship back from Roman, going as far as destroying his own Atlesian knight, as they turned out to be a threat to him at that point of time. Ironwood did calm down after Qrow stated "it's not going to be much of a walk", because Ruby left the ship unpiloted, with Roman getting eaten and all that, so the airship came crashing down. Now Ironwood is indeed a slave to his resolve and I also can see Ironwood snapping out of this, by force if needed, we know Qrow is on a war path to James because of his orders to Clover. Because right now (with Monty's words in mind) Ironwood is choosing to become a monster, but I hope he doesn't die as one. Then Ironwood can give the clear to launch amity colosseum, run up to it with the staff in hand and hang on to it with his iron resolve to reach the atmosphere with both the communication tower and the relic, basicly to pay for the sins he's committing right now and rescue Atlas, Mentle and the rest of Remnant.
Winter didn’t really lose her touch with her humanity, but had to keep her emotional attachments at bay so it didn’t interfere with the missions she was given. She still acknowledged her feelings throughout volume 7 and in the first ep of volume 8. I think she’s the last person Ironwood trusts that might pull him out of his semblance. You could easily see how different he speaks to her and it might have something to do with her being the daughter he supposedly “stole” from Jacques. She might be what reminds him of his humanity for the last time and eventually sacrifice himself for the sake of Atlas and Mantle. If (or likely, when) Ironwood dies, Winter is likely to become the new general and will probably run everything differently from him. But she’ll likely still put something in his memory being her mentor for many years.
I think 🤔 Ironwood is just crazy in the membrane here right now or maybe he just has a mental disorder that comes along with that semblance to actually I feel sorry for the guy at the moment that it’s going to be his downfall.☹️
Iron woods semblance kicked in. His one goal "keep the relics from Salem". Whatever the cost means WHATEVER the cost. I'd say it probably kicked in when his eyes glazed over just before shooting Oscar. (Watch the scene again, you see the moment the Tin-man throws away his heart)
I didn't know about Ironhood semblance ! Now it could explain why his change was so radical. Why after his song "hero" he would suddenly become a villain who doesn't trust anyone else decision when he was willing to listen to others before
When I heard about Ironwood’s semblance, I honestly jumped on the bandwagon of “wtf is this, this is lazy” but after watching this video and reading the comments I can say that Mettle definitely had a lot more thought into it than just a personality trait. Fans don’t give the team enough credit - Ironwood is still really well written imo. I’m loving V8 so far :)
anyone else realising a trend. For each academy they have all been at the headmaster has been killed. Ozpin of course reincarnated but he did die and lionheart was killed at haven. I fear it may be ironwoods time
Soon, I need to have the right amount of time and be in the right mindset so it's a bit tricky but I have been itching to get moving on the videos for a while and can't wait to make more. 😊
Ironwood and his semblance kinda reminds me of Dr. Fate and the helmet of Nabu in Injustice 2. When Nabu is convinced in what would happen in the future, he do any means necessary in order to prevent from happening even if it means eliminating any of his comrades until someone were to remove his helmet and bring Kent back to his senses
While Ironwood is based on the Tin Man, as each member of Ozpin's inner circle is based on a character from The Wizard of Oz, I'm noticing another character that has a lot of similarities to him: Macbeth. While Ironwood is driven by his resolve as opposed to his ambition, both have focused on a particular goal to defend against a threat that they have become so laser focused on that they miss the bigger picture, driving themselves to isolation and paranoia and ultimately their demise.
I think the way you talked about make sense...tho I wished they could have showed his semblance cloud his judgement more and people like Qrow, Ruby maybe talk or show more worry about Ironwood Ex have them think/talk what the burdens or drawbacks the not only being a leader of a huge city but of the military too, maybe why Ironwood joined the military in the first place, maybe having a flashback of Qrow and Ironwood to show how maybe his personality maybe have changed etc..
On top of all that, I think it might have also been a factor in why Theodore in Before the Dawn and After the Fall might have cut ties with him, knowing his semblance would have pushed him down this tragic past. If before the Dwn is set around volume 5/6 time, the presence of the embargo and withdrawal of troops could have been a signal to other people in Ozpin's inner circle that Ironwood with his Mettle is going in the wrong direction and there's not much of a way to help him snap out of it, thus cutting ties.
I really wish Mettle isn’t his canon semblance like that’s an equivalent of a character trait for Pete’s sake, this may be too cliche because that he is a position of power (general) but i would have enjoyed Ironwood better if he at least has a semblance of the offensive variety, but a cool one.
If it ever comes to a final match between Ironwood and Qrow, or if Qrow finds a dying Ironwood, I want Ironwood to explain his semblance to Qrow, and add something like "You always thought you were the one cursed with a bad semblance. Mine took control of my mind and body, and I couldn't do anything."
I think Ironwood will sacrifice himself at the end of the season, i see him giving his life by defending Ruby’s group as the retreat from Atlas and allows himself to die when they use the Staff and drop Atlas on the Whale Grimm
Just want to say the decision to make that his semblance is a horrible choice as a writer it either forces him into his first decision or it's a not needed power that doesn't matter if his will is already strong. A passive semblance like that he wouldn't have doubts or but unsure, certain in every step of the way
Still can’t help but see it as a cop out. All of Ironwood’s bad choices and actions weren’t his fault, it was just his semblance that’s to blame. Or it’s not Ironwood’s fault that he’s a stubborn pig headed idiot that never learns from his mistakes. He just has a bad semblance.
It’s a combination of ironwoods ptsd and his semblance that makes him go off the deep end, but the tipping point is when he realizes he will never be able to walk through a metal detector😂
I mean, a semblance like that is pretty useful IRL for someone that has trouble staying motivated. Decide on something like “I’m going to get my masters degree, at least.” and it can give you the motivation to do it. Ironwood has a very useful semblance, he’s just using it wrong.
One think about Ironwwod's idea of raising Atlas and the relic of creation high above grimm reach is that only helps short term against Salem because he forgot that she was immortal so she can live forever. And everyone knows that no matter how great all the precautions he has in place in the long run future human/fanus will most likely what to return to the plantet and bring the relics back into Salem's reach again only this time with much weaker fighters and an even stronger force to fight.
Yeah, the tragic downside of having a semblance that strengthens your resolve and allows you to hyper-focus is that it basically gives you tunnel vision.
You kick on the gas, you’re only going in one direction.
And that direction may be straight into war crimes, but he would have no conscious decision making along the way as his semblance takes over his mind
Dang, that’s a really scary and disturbing semblance to have.
Especially if like Qrow, it can sometimes activate unwillingly, and most definitely does
He predicted adams tragic now he predicted ironwoods
Pheonix' explanation reminded me of my anger management issues at times, and I can tell you it's downright terrifying!
This is a repeated process, going back to chop wood even knowing that the witch may enchant his axe again, and this keeps up until he is entirely made of tin,
At the end of his story, the Tin Man admits that it had started to become less about being determined to being with the one he loves, to sheer determination of simply just going, despite the risks and common sense.
This can be somewhat seen in Salem and ozbin
What the fuck? That's how the story goes?

@@Ramsey276one sweet!
Here they are;
The Verandertier(s) (from tier verander, German for "changed beast"), are creatures (types of animal life to be exact) native to the world of Remnant, being direct and indirect descendants of the planet's original inhabitants (who occupied the planet before the Gods remade it as they please, thinking it was a blank slate).

Thank you!
Right!! I cant put my finger on it but his voice is so engaging
True
Im surprised Oscar didnt ask him
@@BassProHunter14 Well, Oscar has little experience dealing with huntsmen, and doesn't know "huntsman etiquette" either, so he doesn't know how appropriate it is to ask someone about their semblance.
Dang it, stop making me like my favorite character even more.... I know he may kick the bucket.... And when it happens... It will hurt.... A LOT
Try saying that now.
And then there's Team RWBY, who clings to Principle... but CRWBY wants us to root for them and not Ironwood, so of course their plan is going to work.

@@Allthingsasian abandonning and leaving arent atrocities, and shooting someone? like idk team rwby does a lot of times especially yang
My opinion
Yep,Ironwood is gonna meet his Demise.
It’s almost certain
Headmasters die, it pretty much a rule now.
I hope so, he's basically a soulless machine at this point.
dumb choice, they gonna get rid of a man who carried volume 7 just because everything in this series has to be black and white, and team rwby always has to be in the right
@@Thompson98PL To quote a great prophet, "That's just like, uh, you're opinion man."
Maybe she’ll tell them about his semblance and how to handle it.
@@greyworld6242 That would be so great. Imagine Weiss getting a text from Winter explaining Ironwood's semblance, and it also has a "by the way, this is how I used this to my advantage" section.
And then they let themselves get captured to get close to him, and use his own semblance against him.
I think Qrow would be more likely to tell them but this is a good idea to
I wouldn't be surprised if that were to happen.
Pretty sure everyone is gonna abandon him anyways so 🤷🏻♂️
"Ironwood's semblance is more a curse.." --> totally agree
Maybe mettle partial boosts his physical skills like his aim. Hyper focus like hitman agent 47. It would explain why he is mostly metal. Also it might tie in to what Ren said on volume 5. Semblance is based on an aspect of a character or the character is based on their semblance. How does one know if their semblance is active or passive it seems like the passives are the rarest of them all.
To add to the hyper focus part I think his increase mettle would push aside any mental distractions like fear or doubts, letting him focus 100% on a fight.

@@kawaiicamybee I agree in principle, but hate how the show narrative is pushing Ruby up over Ironwood.
It works more than likely the way you’ve proposed
Damn, this is incredible. I had no idea that was his semblance. It really sheds new light on his decisions of Vol 8. I need to re-watch everything about Ironwood now through that lens.

This makes Ironwood even more pitiable.
The decisions you make and the actions that come from it are a reflection of who you are
I know where that reference is from.
This gets me intrigued on various characters semblances ending up being their downfall, because that is honestly a possibility for some characters.
Iron wood was a great man his spirit was just broken
While listening to this, the first thing I thought about was Inception and the more I think about it. It's kind of like his semblance is doing that in a way? Planting a thought in his mind that he can't forget
Well, now I feel kind of sorry for him. If this is his Semblance, well, nobody can choose what their Semblance will be...now I kind of want to give him a hug.
I have a theory that June's sword will be destroyed in Vacuo and that the Sword of Destruction will replace it.
I am thinking the same thing! I made a video long ago on that idea but I think it's time to make an updated version 😀
Your content is so amazing! They’re so informative and in-depth and one of the only RWBY lore videos that I never skip.
Thank you so much! I'm really glad you enjoy my ideas 😊
I’ve always liked to think ironwoods semblance was basically hyper armor
If Only Ironwood's semblance Allowed him to Have A Heart that way he could talk to the crows and the Robins
The way he spoke when he thought it was Winter in the finale *volume 8 mini spoiler warning -*
And in the hospital in chapter 1, he was much more calm and sympathetic.
And I thought the paranoid beard was the most worrying part of ironwood
I just make sure if anyone knew and witnesses Ironwood has completely lost his mind in Vol. 7.
I really hate Ironwood so much.
Doesn't his Semblance can be considered as a mental disorder??
Delmoni Gamer
I agree in our world there are lots of people with mental disorders like that like Ironwood and also not trying to be offensive here too
Iron woods semblance kicked in.
Am I the only one want more Dark Theory of RWBY since he made that Dark Theory about the return & fate of Pyrrha
anyone else realising a trend. For each academy they have all been at the headmaster has been killed. Ozpin of course reincarnated but he did die and lionheart was killed at haven. I fear it may be ironwoods time
I guess you could say Salem is... Mettle-ing with Ironwood... okay I'll go
Don't go. Keep making more puns.
The population of Remnant would be an interesting speculation video.
Hi I like your videos but when’s the next seraph video coming out
Soon, I need to have the right amount of time and be in the right mindset so it's a bit tricky but I have been itching to get moving on the videos for a while and can't wait to make more. 😊
God his semblance is basically either driving at the legal speed limit or *FUCKIN SEND IT*
Ironwood and his semblance kinda reminds me of Dr.
While Ironwood is driven by his resolve as opposed to his ambition, both have focused on a particular goal to defend against a threat that they have become so laser focused on that they miss the bigger picture, driving themselves to isolation and paranoia and ultimately their demise.
some of this reminds me of my own anger management issues, which makes Ironwoods story even more tragic to me
Strong will power can be in anyone as long as you know how to handle it.
There has to be a semblance called "reason" like Mettle but as long as they see reason in there actions and allowing them to show others there reason.
This just became my new favorite video.
When the semblance turns into a curse.
I hope he finds his way back to what he realy wants.
So this didn't age *that* well
But I found his ending to be poetic
You know Mercury would honestly probably be like "At least you HAVE a semblance"
I believe you. If Ironwood really is suffering, then force is what is needed.
It’s a combination of ironwoods ptsd and his semblance that makes him go off the deep end, but the tipping point is when he realizes he will never be able to walk through a metal detector😂
ironwood is not a villain. he's the only one making sense right now if you ask me
"You get 10 million dollars if you shoot your friend in the leg"
Friend: James would never sh-
Ironwood: *Left or Right?*
I mean, a semblance like that is pretty useful IRL for someone that has trouble staying motivated. Decide on something like “I’m going to get my masters degree, at least.” and it can give you the motivation to do it. Ironwood has a very useful semblance, he’s just using it wrong.
This guy is opening my mind more, subbing
One think about Ironwwod's idea of raising Atlas and the relic of creation high above grimm reach is that only helps short term against Salem because he forgot that she was immortal so she can live forever. And everyone knows that no matter how great all the precautions he has in place in the long run future human/fanus will most likely what to return to the plantet and bring the relics back into Salem's reach again only this time with much weaker fighters and an even stronger force to fight.
One of the most jarring scenes in volume 7 (in my opinion), was when Ironwood shot Oscar, even though I guessed it was going to happen
