Watched some of your recent Silent Hunter III uploads and they were so good I decided to go back and watch all of the Patrols in order. As a WW2 history buff and writer, I have to tell you it has been awesome. You got my interest peaked so much in the War of the Atlantic and German U-Boats that I have ordered the excellent book series Hitler's U-Boat War: The Hunters (1939-1942) and The Hunted (1942-1945).
Even in my games, when I decide to crash dive after a close call with an armed merchant or a very sudden aircraft strafe: my chief also gives me the biggest dirty looks when the camera snaps to in the control room
I know what happened at 24:18 : the G7e (type II) torpedoes have a defect when you adjust them to shallower depths. They then run much deeper. You can select deeper values but not shallower.

I like your silent hunter videos. I use to play Silent Service years ago and it was very similar, but games these days are so much more realistic. A guy I know who fixes computers out of his garage has a cockpit set up for air combat games he likes to play. I tried it once when I was there and it was like shooting fish in a barrel. Lol. My 30+ years of flying gave me a big advantage.
Another great vid and thanks! ALWAYS set pistol as magnetic as it does not affect the dud rate and - Mag will detonate on impact but Impact will never detonate on magnetic. IMHO (playing since SH 1) reason for the miss: 23:58 - if you look at the protractor range lines, you're at 550m, not 700. Plus, the AoB seemed a little too much. Always imagine yourself on the bridge looking at the periscope and use the angle L/S off the bow as a quick check. Good Luck and Good Hunting!
Haven't tangled with SH3 in a long while, and then only with the GWX mod. Great to see someone still doing careers :) Do any of the other mods you use iron out bugs that are still in the game, like the crew fatigue model, ship AI behavior (stuff like running aground, depth charging themselves) and weather issues? Really like the UI changes with the mods you use.
Love the deck gun action, as someone playing a type IIa campaign, deck guns are revered. All I have is a single barrel 2cm gun for AA which I dual purpose for blowing up deck cargo if I'm out of fish! 😂😂 Speaking of which would you consider doing a type 2 campaign? Would be awesome to see.

I am glad to be back in sh3. This is kinda where it all started for me. Also after doing sh4 videos for a year and a half this is new and exciting! I really like both games and I am brainstorming ways to keep SH4 on the channel. Maybe single war patrols or something. Let me know what you think!
Amidships is the German Uboat Commanders Manual '43 edition prefered suggestion on where to aim and do your tdc calculations on as it allows for the greatest allowance for errors in your calculations and data collection.
So in my SH3 with similar mods, my TDC looks different. I don't have the green "Deckung" (Tracking) button in the middle of it, and I can't input values on the dials manually. Is this a mod (or patch) that adds it, or have I possibly screwed myself out of it with some other mod? I'm forced to use the ingame note pad method of gathering target data in manual targeting mode.
looks like a nice game. I Played uboat (2019), but got refund, because the game was quite bad. Playing Atlantic fleet now, but ths subs are way too powerfull. Seems not easy to loose when playing as German, and using 90% uboats. Cant loose the war then. so was looking for another subgame. Silent Hunter seems good. And I like the way you are commenting your videos. Can I ask you why you're playing Silent Hunter III? and not IV of V ? Silent Hunter is from 2007, so could be quite outdated? I read the reviews for SHV. They're mostly bad. But seems you need mods in both SHIII as the other SH games to really enjoy the game?
Sorry I got back to this comment a bit late! I am not a big fan of shV it really just isn't my cup of tea. I have tried time and time again and something about it just dose not work for me. Despite all of the hard work from modders the game is still pretty buggy. However I Love Silent Hunter 3 and 4. (I actually just wrapped up a series on SH4) With mods these are the best submarine simulators out there in my opinion.

Sh3 if you intend to mod it with GWX (I recommend the one alex edition) otherwise go with uboat. It is more arcady but it has the same gameplay loop, and the sub is very detailed, the TDC and torpedo room controls are fully modeled... only bad part is the aforementioned arcady feel and style that takes away from the immersion. Sh4 if you like american subs and feet.
The Germans didn't do that often. That's why so many neutral ships were sunk, they just didn't give a shit as long as the merchants were on trade routes to the allies
Have you thought about turning off map contact updates and using the RAOB wheel? I like it a lot more than using the map. Also have you thought about giving the Merchant Fleet Mod a shot?
Yeah I was thinking of turning off map contact updates off for this LP actually. I feel that the pacing with them on is much better for viewing so I decided to keep the map icons. However I do want to use the RAOB wheel for attacks and I plan to use it soon. I used used the merchant feet mod a while ago but I had issues with it unfortunately.

I do like playing without the map contact updates. I agree it makes it much more difficult. I will keep these realism setting for this playthrough I think however I am planning on doing videos on the Operation Monsune mod for SH4. I will do those without map contact updates! You should fire at the bow, not at midships. That way your torpedoes wouldn't fall behind.
