A Type IXB nearly prevented my existence when U-124 attacked the ship my Grandfather was sailing on. My love of SH3 actually caused me to look into the history of that attack, and to flesh out a piece of family lore.
Well, you dont have to be german to understand german, and after all "Alarm" is pretty universal in a lot of languages. The voice is taken from the movie "Das Boot"
I have played SH3 with the Grey Wolves expansion back in the day. Some of the missions would last days and I would always eat Bratwurst for my meals while playing. I felt that it was a very immersive experience especially with the orders all being given in German and listening to 1940s German songs on with the radio mod. Thanks for posting, this reminds me of many happy times cruising the Atlantic and Caribbean. 😊
@@henriquebarguini3608 If I remember correctly GWX gives you daily reports of other actions as they occur during world war 2, better harbours, more realiatic U-Boat skins. There also a site called subsim where you can download 1940s music for the radio on board the U-Boat. It's definitely worth downloading GWX if you really like SH3.
@@henriquebarguini3608 It's easy just download the Zips / Winrars and unpack and then install. Subsim is a great resource. And SH3 is such an immersive game even though some of the missions can take days to complete, but you just have to remember to save your mission before the next time you play again.

16:00 - The reason you can't see the ship is because the game can't render anything smaller than a land mass that far out (10,000 meters or 10km). However, the game will still trigger Ship Spotted alerts because that is a separate calculation. It has nothing to do with whether it's visible to the player on the screen or not.
In America’s defense due to massive budget constraints we never tested the Mk 14 until after submarine captains started complaining that they weren’t sinking Japanese ships.
@@jamiekamihachi3135 That still doesn't excuse BuOrd from challenging reports that the torpedoes were faulty every step of the way. Hell, the Commander of the SW Pacific Submarines refused to let his crews disable to faulty magnetic pistol which was causing early detonations, until he was overruled at the end of 1943.

3:53 if you put them all the way in the upper left, which is the damage control team, that is basically the "sit around station." They will use way less energy, unless of course there is actual damage to be repaired. Its a good overflow spot.
A perfect companion to this is ''Das Boot'', especially the extended version. It's a brutal movie, but it humanizes the Germans, which our war movies usually doesn't do. The historical U-105 was sunk on 2 June, 1943. Lost with all hands off of Dakar by an ASW plane.

Interesting. My Great cousin commanded a type 9 and was awarded the knight's cross. He was promoted to staff duty with Adm donitz. He survived the war and the family has always maintained that he was not a Nazi. Rather, if one did something, they did it to the best they could do. As a game, it brings home some of the things people on both sides lived with.
Had one of your videos pop up in random feed, patrol 5 episode 5 i think and really loved that episode. Your commentary has come along way from this video to that, really enjoying this series man, will be binge watching for sure

In fact, my country was being ruled by a Dictator during that time, so Portuguese military neither were hostile nor friendly towards german ship/planes. The Britihs did however pierced our air space periodicly hunting down german planes. Also, that was probably a Hurricane Mark.II (correct me if I'm wrong). We did buy a fair number of those from the British during the war period.
@@zzirSnipzz1 Portugal did still not directly participate in the war, though.They were more into making money out of the war (Warfare needs a lot of resources). Despite that, they were not not playing an important role in the war (the Battle of the Atlantic could have gone very different if they didn't make the decisions they made).
I spent hours and hours with SH III ❤️. Now it is time to reinstall it. I didn't know that actual add-ons exist. Thank you so much, this is one of the best games ever.

Late to the Party but susbcribed., Loved SHIII Grey Wolves back in the day. The attention to detail and level of accuracy is immense. Hence the Portugese Hurri. Just bought the SH bundle off Steam for a very decent price too
I once sailed all the way to Antarctica just to see if the programmers had bothered to have it on the map. As it turns out, it was there. And of course, the Arctic ice sheet is up North if you go far enough.

after SH4 with all shallow waters and shallow diving submarines ...playing the germans is such a relief you can dive very deep and there's no bottom to hold you up better ASW will be a thing though glad you're playing SH3 now

One little recommendation, keep one or two of your officers in quarters where they can rest, and rotate them as needed with other officers. Don't always keep the TDC manned, except when you go to action stations.
I am playing this game too after I discovered Steam. In 2005 the complexity of the game was to much for me and my poor english but now I am living the childhood revenge: I am in campaign, 9 patrols: 2 on IIA, 5 on IID and 2 on VIIB. I am waiting for St. Nazaire base. I don't want the newer VIIC, I will wait for Type IX or, perhaps Type XXI! It is very nice to watch this video in the perioad that I am playing the same game! After SH3 I will play SH4 and SH5. Sadly you can not find SH2 on Steam.

There's an audiobook version availble on youtube by a channel called trench diaries :D, the narrator also checks against historical records after each chapter and makes corrections of some mistakes that crept into the English translation,, it is pretty well made.

Love this series, had to come back to drop the comment to the pilot episode :) SH3 is still the best submarine game by far with modding, I was kinda disappointed by the new UBoat game, hopefully new updates make it better.
Funny. The SH3-mods are so lovingly detailed, but one of the new soundbites is strange. The one guy in the background is asking a Feldwebel for a cigarette (right after the sinking with the deck gun). Feldwebel is a Heer/Luftwaffe rank, the Kriegsmarine called them Bootsmann. Oh, well. Good video!

I just bought this on amazon after watching this. I loved aces of the deep. Nothing like a German uboat complete with the German speaking crew.

Funny. The SH3-mods are so lovingly detailed, but one of the new soundbites is strange. The one guy in the background is asking a Feldwebel for a cigarette (right after the sinking with the deck gun). Feldwebel is a Heer/Luftwaffe rank, the Kriegsmarine called them Bootsmann. Oh, well. Good video!
