Phil Hartman’s voice acting on The Simpsons is legendary. Lionel Hutz and Troy McClure were always my favorite part of the show. I am glad they never replaced him with anyone, because there is no one that could have.

Hell, Phil even made _Andy Dick_ watchable and occasionally entertaining, a feat I haven't seen accomplished outside of _NewsRadio_ and _The Ben Stiller Show._
NewsRadio was one of the best sitcoms ever and still every bit as funny as it ever was. Phil Hartman and the entire cast, Dave Foley, Stephen Root, Andy Dick, Maura Tierney, Vicki Lewis, Khandi Alexander, and Joe Rogan. You were all absolutely brilliant. The heat wave episode, the Stargate Defender episode, NewsRadio in space, so many classics!
I can still binge watch it to this day. Such an underrated show that I often wonder how it would’ve turned out had we not lost Phil. It’s impossible to watch him and not see how brilliant he was. By far my favorite actor just such a talent.

And, outside of "The Simpsons," Phil wouldn't have had a problem being an in-demand voice actor for Disney. Phil obviously had the talent to make that crossover from being a comedic actor to doing drama in the same manner that Bryan Cranston, Robin Williams, and Steve Carell made that leap.... Phil Hartman is a fucking legend. Probably the most consistently funny comedic actor I've ever seen. Thankfully, his kids are okay. His daughter is a beautiful young lady who's on Instagram and proudly posted pics of her beautiful wedding a few years ago. Her brother leads a very low-key life as an artist and does not do social media at all. It's good to know that, despite everything, they turned-out okay. The daughter did go-through a major bout of alcoholism for a number of years, but then got sober and she's been doing great for years ever since then. 👍🏻

I'm reading a book about Phil Hartman right now ...it's really incredible he lived in extraordinary life ...they really need to make a mini series about him because they wouldn't be able to get it all in a 2 or 3 hour movie. I still feel really bad for the guy and I remember very clearly the moment I heard that he died and then heard the details of what happened ... it was bizarre and shocking and actually 20 years ago today. It's so sad that he stayed with his wife and she was known to be very vicious at times. I also feel very bad for his kids
I don’t remember where I saw it. It was a crime series. One of the episodes was about Phil Hartman. They interviewd Phil’s second wife. She said she sent Phil and Brynn a congratulations card when they had their first child. She said that Brynn sent her a letter back threading to kill her if she ever contacted them again. That lets you know what Phil was dealing with. I imagine he felt trapped. I wish that he could have broke away. My heart breaks for his kids and what they’ve had to endure. Like I’ve said before. I have no sympathy for Brynn. What kind of mother would do that to her children. Phil deserved better!
I'm on season three of NewsRadio and Phil Hartman is just such a top notch actor on this show. The more and more I watch his amazing acting skills the more sad I am about his unfortunate demise.
I think Phil REALLY grew as an all-around comedic actor during the years on Newsradio. He was definitely smart and you could tell by how much he learned and improved over those years. By season 4, his last season, he had his acting style for that show perfected. He figured out how to play the mean guy with the kind of smarmy charm that still kept him likable to the audience. And he had the ability to do both deadpan comedy and zany, fast-paced comedy without going over-the-top. I definitely think he would've gone onto bigger and better movie roles. One part he almost certainly would've been up for is J. Jonah Jameson in the Spider-Man movies. Think if he would've gotten a part like the principal in Ferris Bueller. He would've crushed a part like that. He would've been able to do any kind of comedic villain, like Gene Hackman's Lex Luthor in the old Superman movies. I think he could've swung around to more dramatic roles eventually too. As for his working with Paul Reubens, he apparently developed the Pee-Wee character along with Reubens. They were basically partners up until Phil got on SNL. He did co-write the Pee-Wee's Big Adventure script and of course had his small cameo role at the end of the movie. In one interview, Reubens said Phil wrote anything in the movie that was a long speech. And there were a lot of funny and memorable speeches in the movie.

I saw an old Phil Hartman interview with Dick Cavett. He was modest and dignified, then he'd pull hilarious bits out of thin air without making too much of it. Very self-contained. And it occurred to me that nothing could be more disastrous than an insecure, frustrated person living with a guy that talented.

That's a great one. Anything from season 4 is great. I love the episode where Bill thinks he's not funny anymore. "See...made you laugh." He got to do such a different kind of humor in that one. The one where he's convincing Dave Lisa is dating another man. The one where he becomes the boss and pretends to know how to run things. The one where he is terrible at negotiating and asks Lisa to help him.
Phil Hartman was hands down the best SNL cast member of all time. If you haven't seen "SNL The Best of Phil Hartman", drop what you're doing & go watch it! RIP Phil, another genius stolen from us too soon. 💔
I was running errands during my first job out of college. While driving around, the news anchor discussed the death of Phil and his wife. At the time it was breaking news. The anchor stated it was an act of domestic violence that led to a murder suicide. The anchor implied that Phil was the killer. Then, on the way back to the job site, the same anchor gave an update that it was phil that was murdered. I was sad and angry at the same time. I was sad we lost such a great talent. But, was very angry that the listeners were led to believe he was the killer.
When I was in high school, several of my classmates were big Chris Farley fans and said it was such a shame that he died so young. I feel the same way about Phil Hartman. He was good at standup, movies, sketches, and voicework, and I wouldn't be surprised if he had gone on to have a TV sitcom. But alas, we'll never know, because his stupid wife decided to murder him.

Hartman was a legend. I drank anything he was in back then, as a teenager. Can’t imagine the amazing stuff he would’ve gone on to do had he lived. It was so heartbreaking to hear about him being murdered by her.
She was so desperate for attention but her personality was so off putting. When she was dealing with her internal demons it effected her jealousy and her attitude towards others and I think Phil was a trigger for her that reminded her of what she wasn’t achieving. Phil is probably the one actor that still makes me so sad and mad that he was taken from his life, we all knew his tremendous range of talent and he wasn’t given the time to achieve all of his magic. I saw a photo of their daughter all grown now and she is drop dead GORGEOUS!

Phil Hartman was a rare talent. Often people describe such rarity as genius because it’s something brilliant we haven’t quite seen before. Yet so many genius artists are self destructive in one form or another. Clearly his relationship with his wife was unhealthy and abusive. Sad that such public genius often can’t escape a personal fatalism.
When a celebrity passes its definitely sad, though I find the death of comedians really hit me hard. Comedy creats laughter. It's a temporary cure for sadness. Phil Hartman's passing was the first death of a celebrity/comedian that i felt profound sadness, where watching him afterwards just broke my heart. Such a dark end to his creative genius. 💔

I saw an old Phil Hartman interview with Dick Cavett. He was modest and dignified, then he'd pull hilarious bits out of thin air without making too much of it. Very self-contained. And it occurred to me that nothing could be more disastrous than an insecure, frustrated person living with a guy that talented.
Where is this awesome combination of Dick and Phil?

That's a great one. Anything from season 4 is great. I love the episode where Bill thinks he's not funny anymore. "See...made you laugh." He got to do such a different kind of humor in that one. The one where he's convincing Dave Lisa is dating another man. The one where he becomes the boss and pretends to know how to run things. The one where he is terrible at negotiating and asks Lisa to help him.
Phil Hartman was hands down the best SNL cast member of all time. If you haven't seen "SNL The Best of Phil Hartman", drop what you're doing & go watch it! RIP Phil, another genius stolen from us too soon. 💔

I was running errands during my first job out of college. While driving around, the news anchor discussed the death of Phil and his wife. At the time it was breaking news. The anchor stated it was an act of domestic violence that led to a murder suicide. The anchor implied that Phil was the killer. Then, on the way back to the job site, the same anchor gave an update that it was phil that was murdered. I was sad and angry at the same time. I was sad we lost such a great talent. But, was very angry that the listeners were led to believe he was the killer.

When I was in high school, several of my classmates were big Chris Farley fans and said it was such a shame that he died so young. I feel the same way about Phil Hartman. He was good at standup, movies, sketches, and voicework, and I wouldn't be surprised if he had gone on to have a TV sitcom. But alas, we'll never know, because his stupid wife decided to murder him.

Phil Hartman was the greatest actor/comedian of my lifetime. He was on the same level as Philip Seymour Hoffman as far as chops.
let not go that far. hartman was talented comic but hoffman was one the greatest actors of all time . hartman even said all he can do is impressions and weird charactors. hartman was funny but you can not really compare him to hoffman . hartman is more a comic who success was on tv while hoffman was a critically acclaimed actor who has played a wide range of charactors.

Hartman was a legend. I drank anything he was in back then, as a teenager. Can’t imagine the amazing stuff he would’ve gone on to do had he lived. It was so heartbreaking to hear about him being murdered by her.
She was so desperate for attention but her personality was so off putting. When she was dealing with her internal demons it effected her jealousy and her attitude towards others and I think Phil was a trigger for her that reminded her of what she wasn’t achieving. Phil is probably the one actor that still makes me so sad and mad that he was taken from his life, we all knew his tremendous range of talent and he wasn’t given the time to achieve all of his magic. I saw a photo of their daughter all grown now and she is drop dead GORGEOUS!

rip phil hartman. truly one of the greats, i love going back and watching his old work, you could just tell by his charisma and how he carried himself. so sharp so quick so warm so clever. everything he did was effortlessly amazing. a timeless talent that you only find once in a generation. anywhere he went he was one of the funniest nicest smartest people in the room. unbelievably talented. lately on youtube i found a phil hartman collection of all of his appearances on david letterman from 1984-1996 it’s almost 2hrs long and it’s amazing seeing him improvise and work a crowd through the interview dynamic. i could study this man all day and never be bored. rip to one of the truly greats
New radio is probably my favorite sitcom ever!! I was 17/18 when I saw the reruns and was mad that I didn't get to see it when it was on. Hartman was a treasure!!

Phil Hartman was so incredibly talented. I loved him. He was also an amazing artist. He did the artwork on Poco's Legend album. If Andy Dick hadn't persuaded Brynn to do Coke, ending her 13 yr sobriety, Phil would have been alive today.

He always reminded me of Harvey Korman. My favourite thing he did was the 1940's failing actor sketch with Jon Lovitz. Those two do an amazing 1940's accent

Phil Hartman was a rare talent. Often people describe such rarity as genius because it’s something brilliant we haven’t quite seen before. Yet so many genius artists are self destructive in one form or another. Clearly his relationship with his wife was unhealthy and abusive. Sad that such public genius often can’t escape a personal fatalism.
I guarantee if Phil Hartman was still alive he would be been the first guest on the podcast

When a celebrity passes its definitely sad, though I find the death of comedians really hit me hard. Comedy creats laughter. It's a temporary cure for sadness. Phil Hartman's passing was the first death of a celebrity/comedian that i felt profound sadness, where watching him afterwards just broke my heart. Such a dark end to his creative genius. 💔
