Thank you for the weekly hour which I look forward to and try to catch live or a little later in the day - it's daytime here in India. A tiny thing to point out: as I recall the word is saponification, the first vowel being a not o. I checked again now and it does seem to be so. I also vaguely remember a group of substances called saponins found in some foods like some millets perhaps the reason these foods should be washed and rinsed well before cooking. Anyhow thanks a lot for all that you all do. Regards and good wishes.
My 13 year old nephew has type one diabetes. Stumbled upon your page last week and have been following. Is this way of eating something i can recommend to him to bring up to his doctor? He moved in with our family within the year and it hurts to see him taking insulin and always not being able to go on our weekend getaways with my kids due to worrying about him and his condition. Thanks in advance
Carnivore is not the solution it will make the undying disease worse. But there is a book made by two type 1 with PhD in nutritional biochemistry. They also have a Yt
Yes you can bring up the mc Dougall diet to the doctor. Other good source is Mastering Diabetes, both the founders are type 1 diabetics too (one of them even has 3 autoimmune diseases to battle).
GOOD JOB DR. MCDOUGALL.....but how can I get someone to answer my questions....? I wanted to get your other book you had on a deal....but I can not get ANYONE to just answer a couple of questions for me !!!.. I do get a lot of friend request but I do not answer those ...if I don't know who the request is from I just deleter it..... I have asked to be contacted on my PM (private msg.) let me know who is it is..... !!!
Can try sending an email to Heather mcDougall? Or try to be at his livestream so you can ask in the chatbox. Make sure to put ??? in front and ??? behind your question for it to be noticed sooner. Good luck.
Dr M, I am on very strict plant based whole food diet with zero processed food in my diet. My platelets have gone high and are 650, what do you suggest?
Hello Dr. McDougall. Would it ok to supplement things like potassium, magnesium (lotion), zinc, selenium and molybdenum just as a way to cover bases? Thanks 🙏🏻
I for one eat a lot of bananas but I don’t know if it’s enough from my diet to cover my potassium needs. I guess I’m most worried about zinc and magnesium because I doubt I get what I should in a day of those two. I notice the magnesium lotion I use towards the end of the day seems to help me get to bed.
@@DangDang-ex1em yeah I did, and I know he advocates for not over supplementing. Just wondering those specifics things would hurt. I know he says you just pee out excess. But there are certain supplements that are actually harmful if taken (think vitamin D or A).

I meant to say that it is bile that does the job (not dietary fat) and that the often stated role of dietary fat to absorb fat soluble vitamins is incorrect
Hello Dr McDougall I am a 66 years old female who has been suffering from hemorrhoids for over 5 years now I can’t sleep that I consulted a surgeon please please 🙏🏿 help help I do eat plants diet with Emmie and her mother 🙏🏿
I’m 76 and even though my calcium tested in the normal range my doctor prescribed calcium 600MG with Vitamin D 400 unit as a preventative. I don’t think I need it. Who’s right?
8:05 scary excuse, as I've been vegan for many years and had a diagnosed Zinc deficiency. As I also mentioned on another video, Dr Fuhrman suggests adding a Zinc supplement to a vegan diet. Would his reasoning for doing so be to get people to eat meat?
If you pick a fruit or veg off its plant, brush off the dirt, and eat it, it does have B12, but in modern times we sanitize our foods to remove all traces of dirt so all the B-12 has been washed away.
11:10 white rice promotes beriberi due to lack of Vitamin B1: so why do you sometimes promote the Kempner white rice and fruit diet? Why does that diet use white rice and not brown rice?
The diet would likely not last long enough to cause any deficiencies. I also think it's to prove that you don't even need complex carbs to reverse diabetes type 2.
The reason white rice was used is the lower protein content when compared to brown rice. Kempner was caring for very sick people and wanted to protect the kidneys. The kidneys primary function is to excrete nitrogen. Nitrogen = protein = rice bran = brown rice.
JM promotes Kempner as Doctor who used a high carbohydrate diet to cure people. It was a different diet to the McDougall diet because Kempner was caring for the sickest of the sick.
Since 2009, Australia legislated to have flour fortified with folic acid. Only organic bread is allowed to be sold without folic acid. Time to go organic folks. How about lectins, oxalate and anti nutrients.
Your intestine can deal with them by breaking them down, especially as you build up the right gut microbiome. I believe phytates are also anti-cancer.
