What a beautiful question. The mind is not separate from ourselves and should not be minimised or attempted to be destroyed. It should be understood though, for what it is. The mind is just knowledge, active in relevance. Without the need for that knowledge there is no need for the mind. YOU ARE THERE, but the mind is not.
Now, the mind does give a template for navigating this world, so its very normal that during the awakening journey people reshape and sharpen the mind.
It's not necessary for progress, but a logical and natural reforming so to speak of the neuro pathways in congruence with new found insight into reality.
In spiritual practice though, the mind is not. It comes in later in relevance to "explain" what happened. 💚

well said, today i went out by the lake and i saw all these bubbles. for some reason i had this moment, where all thinking suddenly dissipated and felt part of the river. It was absolutely surreal, I no longer felt the rock i was standing on and i didn't freak out or think i would fall into the river. I have no clue what happened, everything just went quiet, all senses went out the door and i was just there staring at the river. When i regained my sense of 'standing' on a rock, right on the river, with all the little flies everywhere lol the birds etc. i was there for almost an hour. Again, what on earth happened?

I think that, in most cases, it is not true that someone can recognize the presence of awareness in two days. It takes time and practice as taught in most traditions.
Contemplation, the recognition of presence or I am, is not that easy and usually ( as in the case of Rupert) takes some years.
Nondual teachers usually don't recognize this fact. Probably because they overestimate their own power as teachers and also because telling someone that has to wait and work for the prize is not that sellable.
If you are a student and feel you are not able to recognize the presence of being don't think you are failing. Keep working in meditation or inquiry and gradually, in time, you will recognize the presence of being in a natural way.

Ive come to experience that practice helps but not in the way we might think. It is more about unlearning and letting go than adding on a new skill or developing a new ability. Awareness is prior to all functions of small mind. Experiencing being is about being free of all that is inessential that we have become so entrenched in. Some people find it easy to let go, for some it is more gradual. But giving yourself permission to be free and letting yourself know that there is no skill to be practiced, rather you have to do nothing and be nothing, is quite helpful

It’s as A Course In Miracles says, “the miracle is not enough.“ Sure, seeing the truth on your own (miracle) is a requirement for correction, but letting go of your stinking thinking and habits of ego will take some time. That vigilant letting go of the false is what “forgiveness” is in ACIM.
Then, after years of weakening the ego habit and really living freedom, it also appears to me anyone could do it in minutes.
But not me, and I’ve not seen such sudden completion in my 30 years on the path.

It's not only that the early practices develop discrimination. It is included that those practices promote inner healing. An ego caught by destructive compulsions cannot always free itself easily. A first step is self awareness; awareness of how we sabotage ourselves w limiting egoic compulsions. A second step can be releasing the compulsions. Many of us need these steps to arrive at nondual consciousness.

When using words to describe the ineffable, the experience described becomes a concept. When I say I am, and I know that I am, that is a thought. The dreaded " I " thought as described by Ramana Maharshi. My question is: Can one merely think he is present?, and by doing so, be one step behind, or ahead of the experience? I guess what am pondering is: Can one actually experience presence? Or is one just dwelling in a thought about presence?

See them as the same light of pure awareness that you are. If you perceive suffering or ignorance in others while relating to them, it indicates you are not abiding as your true self. A suffering or ignorant person only exists from the perspective of a separate, interior self. Therefore, the resolution to your inquiry is to remain grounded in and as your true self at all times, making this the guiding principle of your life. Love, compassion, and peace naturally arise as symptoms of this abiding.

This teaching has an aspect of spiritual bypassing. This gentlemen is experiencing the multifariousness of the psyche, the many strands and parts of mind that struggle to have access to Self and this work of getting to know these many burdened parts of psyche is indeed a long and complex path and it can be very invalidating to hear that all is needed is to recognise the fundamental self/ground of being. This can however strand the many parts of psyche without access to self. I think this gentleman would benefit from exploring Internal Family Systems.

But what is prompting all the questions to mind.
This would mean you are separate from yourself and your being. ie Being being your physical body and brain that was BORN and Yourself the " I am" the " Real Presence" that was FORMED initially before your Being was Born.
quote; " who am I really" cannot be the mind asking that question because the mind is a non physical and cannot store nor delete information. That would mean the mind is just a tool of service that was implemented from that that was FORMED to send and receive information from the FORM to the Physical Brain.
So " I am, I am present, I am at peace". So what is asking yourself. It cant be two lets say entities within otherwise there would be turmoil, inner turmoil, which there is not.
The problem is here that, quote; "OBJECTIVE EXPERIENCE has" is being used as a power that is coming from nowhere and from nothing, in fact Objective experience should not even exist, why?, because Objective requires a physical source for Objectiveness to derive from. Objective cannot derive from thin air nor a belief. This is a major problem with Teachers/Guru's and in this case, just a Speaker who does not have a clue how that that was initially FORMED derived and give rise to the Intelligent Species.
That that initially FORMED wants to be aware of its worldly surrounds for the purpose of survival and evolving its physical body and brain host, like its has been doing for aeons. It is not your choice to go back into yourself, it is the prompting from the FORM choice.

It can be spiritual. It can have all sorts of meanings. Interrupting someone who has been asked to speak is never the right approach in any field of endeavor, especially something as personal and important to a person as meditation or the awareness of self. One must allow someone to answer on their own terms, without interruption. Interruption is always an important sign of arrogance and should never be allowed to slip past any observer. This is of the utmost importance when presenting one's self as someone with something to teach. It is sometimes referred to as 'listening.' You listen to the person. Then you respond. You never ever ever ever interrupt. All this should really not need saying. It is abundantly obvious.

@@RobBegg The problem with interrupting someone to spare them from something that you have decided they are doing is that you are making assumptions based upon a form of arrogance. You assume that you know what is best for this other person to say or not say. That is the definition of arrogance. Interruption is a tactic often used to unsettle a person. You can see in the video that the guy in the audience was somewhat embarrassed or at least unsettled by the interruption.
It’s extremely hard to argue in favor of someone interrupting a person who has just begun to speak. It’s an argument that really can’t prevail if logic is being used. The best thing is to avoid interrupting people when they are responding to something. An even better alternative is to cast a wary eye upon meditation and mindfulness ‘teachers.’ There aren’t any teachers. Only students.
