Being from Australia, the camera on the RHS is THE reason I'm considering this device. You simply can not find many other brands or ANY other brands made for RHD cars.
I was just talking about this camera with someone again recently and mentioned it really does seem like this was specifically for RHD cars and they released it in the US for some reason instead of making a LHD version. This is an excellent option for RHD cars.
Totally agree with the difficulty finding this type of dashcam with the camera on the RHS for us Aussie's. I'm now considering a rear view mirror monitor with detachable cameras.
In the UK/Ireland on Amazon this is promoted as being specifically made for right hand drive vehicles ( the link you have to Amazon UK is a different product to the one you are reviewing, its a link to the one that clips on a mirror) so I can see that it would not be entirely perfect for countries like the USA.. Having said that, looking at your video footage it seems to be just fine. I bought this primerally as a reversing camera, so the dash cam function is kind of a bonus.
Nice review and thank you for sharing, I just received mine and noticed that you can order specially for LHD or RHD , in the order process , I’ve been watching several TH-cam videos about the install and you are not the first to say about the camera position being off for lhd vehicle drivers. I hope this will help others prior to purchasing if the live in Europe or the USA. Many thanks again stay safe. 😷.
Nice review, thanks for mentioning the wide angle rear view distance distortion. I think all of these dash cams have it. It is irritating to say the least. My SUV when towing an RV has no view at all so the distortion is better than nothing. Most reviewers seem to ignore it however. Agree that for the price you can shop around and get a better resolution and also a friendlier user interface.
Hey all, if you are interested I also reviewed the previous AUTO-VOX X1 Pro which was a very similar camera 2 years ago (th-cam.com/video/PyfZaov2qa8/w-d-xo.html). I gave it a better review at the time because I felt at the time it was a pretty cool novelty, but it also had the lens on the drivers side! So why did they switch? I will say that the build quality and design of this one is a huge improvement over the X1 Pro. After using a few of these mirror cams I am just not sold on them when I went back to a real mirror. Of course like I mentioned in my review I think there is a market for them and if you think its right for you, don't let me tell you otherwise! I just wish for the price the video quality was better, and the lens was on the other side. If I were to choose a 2 channel system and a separate reversing cam I would choose something like the AUTO-VOX M1W Wireless Backup Camera with a separate LCD screen: amzn.to/2rAtppa and the Viofo A129 Duo: amzn.to/3apgQSP. I use the M1W in my work truck and while the screen isn't that big, I prefer having a real mirror.
can you tilt the rear view camera view (by swiping down on the mirror) virtually to pointing down like the T9 to see the ground below for getting super close to vehicles behind you? Thank you
Why did not you include the video of back up camera at night? In most dash cams, the front light of cars in the back of the car completely destroy the picture.
Does anyone know if the wiring harness of the X1PRO can be used with this new mirror? I want to just swap out the mirror and the rear camera and not have to spend three hours pulling and re-installing a new harness.
This unit does everything quite well enough. The biggest difference between the V5 Pro and other set-ups is that once installed, the V5 Pro looks like an OEM factory install instead of a clip on sun visor on top of grandma's spectacles. I'm not sure that someone who admits he doesn't even know which end of a screwdriver to hold is able to provide a reliable critique for this product.
@@integralcam Try 0:35 into the video for one. This system's installation isn't "complex" for anyone who can read and follow simple instructions. I wasn't trying to be rude but you bashed the thing so much without even mentioning that the rear view mirror is about the only one of these units that comes with it's own direct to windshield mount with only one wire which gives the mirror a very slick factory installed appearance. I have the same system and mine provides as crystal clear an image as any I've seen. (especially those tacky looking "clip-on" mirror set-ups)
@@tribulationprepper787 it's all good, you were just giving me a dig, and I agree those clip on ones are bad. I have installed more complicated stuff, I am just trying to be honest to a lot of people who, lets be real, would struggle because a lot of people can't even follow directions or just refuse to try. I wasn't trying to claim the installation is a negative of this camera. It's not really any harder to install than any other 2 channel dash camera pretty much, even with a few little extra parts to wire. In the end I just can't get over the camera lens being on the passenger side on a product released in north america. I have tested and reviewed several mirror cams like this, and while it seems high quality and well built, it felt they released a product meant for countries where the drivers side is on the right. I have never seen any other mirror based cam where the lens is on the right side released here. If you look at the amazon listing and see the picture of it installed inside of a car, its a right hand side car. I wanted to love this camera but that's too much of a flaw to me.
@@tribulationprepper787 i generally really love autovox products, i still use one of their jump starters i got and reviewed 5 years ago in my work truck. i have used it to jump some company trucks too, even this year. so believe me i have nothing against autovox, i was just giving my personal opinion on this cam.
@@integralcam I have to completely agree with you about the placement of the forward facing camera. As you said in your video, for $300 the mirror should be available in America with the camera mounted on the left side of the mirror. Aside from that bit of just plain laziness on the makers part, I believe that for the money, this system is as good as any on the market. It has ALL of the "bells and whistles" and a few more. Being able to adjust the rear camera's viewing angle and it's guide lines with the touch screen is mighty handy for setting that camera up. Once again, if installed properly, it looks like it came installed from a Ford assembly line with just one single wire protruding from the mirror a few inches to the headliner. As a perfectionist, I wish that there was a slick little plastic cover for that wire. Take care
No you would lose all those features, because this mirror replaces your entire stock mirror and does not have OnStar. I would really suggest a different form factor if you have a mirror like that.
Thanks for the review! What is your opinion of using the V5 Pro as a regular rearview mirror (with the screen off)? I've tried a couple of these mirror dashcams and they tend to have a dark tint which makes it difficult to see.
It's one of the main reasons I realized I wouldn't personally want to use one. This one is dark too. I would only want to use it if I had a van or a truck with a topper with poor visibility, but for most people an actual mirror is so much brighter. I would prefer to use a standard dash cam and keep my real mirror.
Yea I thought these were cool at first but I think I am over the novelty. Unless you want to install it on a van with no rear windows, a traditional dash cam is a better option.

Fantastic for the money!
What is the start up time?
Thanks for the review.
That’s weird. I installed mine and the from view camera looks nice. You forgot to mention that you actually adjust the camera lens

So just a thought, could you just swivel the mount around so that the camera ends up on the other side?
I doubt it without breaking it but they do sell some that have a cabin camera built in the mirror if you wanted a dash rear and inside camera.
