Great content 👍🏼
Glad you think so!
Every repair shop I’ve been to has had something negative to say about the previous shops I’ve been to…where I am it’s a small community of reliable repair shops and I try to support the ones I trust the most, but lately I’ve been tackling even the most daunting jobs which I’d never consider in the past by first educating myself through people like Morgan and the content they put out…we’ll done! If I were in your area I’d be a customer for sure…
Thank you so much.
you are absolutely right about the foaming and i seen the video you are talking about, lol. thats one reason the shock needs to be under pressure to keep it from foaming and why you cant run shock oil in forks. you do some really great videos.
Thanks man
I love tech videos just like this one
Thanks
Thanks for video , I am sending greetings from the Czech Republic
Thanks for watching!
That foam is nitrogen mixed with the oil as the rubber bladder is micro pours. Reason why service schedule is short with bladders compared to stock piston so they say.
It's absolutely true. Bladder res works for about 2-3 months before substantial gas leakage. Piston shock works for about 12-15 months. 433% increase in service life. Replace and grease a new o-ring, install it properly, friction is virtually undetectable, and you just gained a year of proper damping performance
Hey Morgan thanks for the vids. Where can I buy the oil seal and dust cover ? Thanks
Check out SDI
Thanks for the information Morgan. Hope your having a great weekend
I noticed in a more recent vid you pre filled the shock body first and did not fill through the high speed . Is one way perferred over the other ?
I like filling the body first. The other way works too. I feel like you have to bleed less when you do the body first.
OOOOps may want to remove other tuners stickers before disassembling LOL oh well.
Hahaha might have been on purpose
Shock pump is always at least 10% less air.
Hello, What type of seal are you using, is it regular V seal and also What material NBR or Viton?
We use either stock KYB (which fit the WP or the Viton ones from SDI
Is it still possible to bleed a wp shock this way that hasn't had a bladder kit fitted? I've always been under the impression the standard shock with the piston needed the bleed machine?
Yes you can bleed a stock one this way. You just have to set the piston height afterwards
Hey, do you know where can i get that thing on the needle so i can pump it with a normal pump?
We built that from normal fittings
Maybe show orientation of the seals closely, not all know which way they should be installed. None of the dealers here will charge a shock unless they worked on it. imagine it is a liability or a money grab thing.
Good idea. It’s a money thing and pride thing.
You might mention that before you take the shock off you can measure the length its set at. That when you can match it putting it back on to get the sag correct or at least really close.
Great point.
Oh hell yeah. I have this bike and just rebuild my forks with gold valves and was intimidated in doing the shocks and here we are. Thanks man!
Awesome
I know you did this two years ago, but thanks very much. You’re the first person I’ve ever see show me nitrogen and how are you apply?
So, im in the process of doing this with a stock WP shock with the piston still. So, when I first started bleeding it with the cup I had a ton of big bubbles come out and the piston would skip a little when I would start the down stroke. No biggie I thought...its my first time trying this so I figured I just didnt do the first steps very well and kept pumping. After about a half hour of pumping eventually everything seemed smooth and no more bubbles where coming out but when I took the shock out of the vice and tipped it straight up it seemed like it may have sucked a air pocket in through the cup and I would have to start the whole process over. I think im on my 3rd attempt now... not sure if im doing something wrong or if I just have a ton of air hiding in it somewhere still.
Not sure.
@@highlandcycles Found out you can suck in air past the seal head if you push the shaft really hard with no nitrogen pressure in the canister. Bikes all back together now and feeling fresh.
@@phantomsky8592 awesome
I built my vacuum bleeder for probably less than $150 its a very simple and effective tool
I am thinking about doing that but I really don’t feel the need too much.
@highlandcycles I'm always surprised how much air comes out of oil when you put it under vacuum because of dissolved air inside the oil that you can't see.
i like this one ..... filling from the compression port ..... i'm about to try it .... there are alotta vids on this, and most of them are from monkeezzz ...... the race tech thing of doing it upside down looks good, but this still is better, u can't argue w/physics ..... will report back
You made it look ez. When I worked in the bike shop’s we just never did anything like that. I personally don’t keep a bike long enough to where one out. lol. I did buy an XR500R way back in the day that had a bad rear shock and I just bought a new one from progressive suspension. In fact I’m in the process of trading in my 2020 DRZ 400 with only 4K on it for a new Husqvarna 701 Enduro right now so in April I be on a husqvarna. Lol thanks for sharing my friend.
Thank you!
Got a stupid question..when shock is mounted..tighten to spec ..should there be any play or more like side to side wiggle in top hem joint/ bearing ? I have absolutely no up and down..but shock up top has wiggle..like it is tight and not clunky...but floating..if that make sense??
Next time please ktm sx 65 shock:-)
When we get one I’ll film it for sure
Hey how much do you charge to rebuild a rear shock
1.5 hrs plus parts. We are 90/hr
I built a vacuum pump tool using a cheep ac vac pump.
Air has to come in somehow to create foam right? Is it possible a leaky bladder causes the oil to foam up? Or does this happen on stock shocks too? If so would the air most likely get sucked in through a bad shock seal?
It can be a few different things. Bladders will let nitrogen through slowly but so will the o rings on a piston style. The moral of the story (that I should have mentioned in the video) is that you need to service your suspension more often.
The seal head moves in and out some when cycling the shock during bleeding, is this normal?
Yes. As long as you finish with the shaft all the way out and fill the cup it will be good.
Kicking the ass Morgan. Nice work. DIY all the way.
Thanks
Have you tried the orange locite? It holds like red but breaks like blue
No. Will have to look into it.
it looks that when you were bleeding it through the pot at an angle, the bolt hole was not the Most Upper pain t in the system and air pocket could have stayed in the reservoir above bladder.
It seems that way but the only place it can hide is up in that little spot. By forcing the piston in and out a bunch and hard, you force that out.
@@highlandcycles ok, I believe you, as otherwise these trapped bubbles would quickly deteriorate shock performance
@@ivanrybkin9384 yep. And you would notice while testing the shock
Hey Morgan I have question we’re my air filter is on my bike it is leaking a little oil puddle on the floor do you know what it could be?
Did you over oil it?
@@highlandcycles no i have not oiled it sence i got the bike
@@Bowhunter-pj2zl what bike?
@@highlandcycles klx 140
@@Bowhunter-pj2zl seems odd. I’d talk to the place you bought it
Even though I do as most of my own work, I don't have the facilities or equipment to deal with suspension. Luckily we have a local guy that does suspension service as a side business.... He's got a vacuum bleeder, a parts cleaner and N2 in the shop.
Perfect
