I detect a little bit of bias against carnivore. On the one hand, she's arguing that people should not rule out keto because it's too hard. At the same time she's saying that people don't need to go to Carnivore because it is too restrictive. Give me a break. I've been carnivore for 3 years and I find it to be much easier than keto. And I have no issue staying in a high level of therapeutic ketosis. You just can't go crazy eating a lot of protein. Just as you can't on keto.
@@lifeinsuranceguru some people are struggling to maintain ketosis with a carnivore approach- which foods help you?
Good points. Most dietitians are newly learning about the carnivore approach as an option and are not yet confident in supporting this eating pattern. Denise says that she needs to understand this better - but knows that some people are doing very well with carnivore.
@@FamilyHealthLab The key is managing protein. I can go up to about 1 G per kilogram of body weight before it will kick me out of therapeutic ketosis. I usually eat between 12 and 14 oz of beef per day. The rest of my calories come from fats. Usually in the form of butter and cream.
@@lifeinsuranceguru Great that you have found an approach that suits you, and a clear understanding of how to tweak things to maintain ketosis.
Some people on carnivore are limiting their meats, and having leaner cuts. atty cuts of meat, ie ribeye steaks, pork and lamb chops, and oily fish like salmon can help- as well as adding sources of animal fats to meals - such as beef tallow, duck fat, or pork lard, this can enhance flavour as well!
Some people really need to limit their dairy, partiularly milk drinks, if ketosis is a key goal on carnivore.
@FamilyHealthLab With no carbs, it is very easy to manage.
