Mad respect to Sam Worthington. I'm glad he gave credit to those designers, VFX artists, Animators. (All of the creative designers)
I think we tend to give a lot of respect to actors, directors and writers, but we tend to over look the rest of the team that actually have to do the technical part. Sure we have the credits to show the team, but we talk less about these guys in the background that actually put everything to life.
@Ralph Reilly I'm talking exclusively movies, game companies definitely get credit, but they do get over looked and other people and companies don't get credit. Did you know Blizzard doesn't make a lot of their animations and trailers. They hire other companies to make them and put out NDAs so they cant get any credit. And yeah they may get paid but most of them wont even be able to put their work on portfolios, only studios where they worked. You say "Most don't" but I've seen lots of people give credit to actors, or directors. I am aware award ceremonies give credit to the company, but you dont always here them talk about that company.

Predator and prey keep a “balance” when the predators eat almost all the prey to the point that they start starving to death, their population declines and they the prey start to increase, and then the cycle happens again. You think animals just stop killing when they notice they need to balance everything? 😂.
it is exactly like the first Avatar. Why? Someone shows up uninvited. First they are rejected then they learn and then finally Accepted. Then they fight a common enemy. And someone dies permanently.
Zoe killed it. Her acting was phenomenal. One again she brought her a game.

The reason why AVATAR resonated with so many people all over the word is that the Na'vi represent the humans long before they lost the connection to their full spiritual potential.

I have Aboriginal friends who never lost sight of their cultural roots. It’s mostly representing a “civilised” caucasian empire building colonial settlers who are the “bad humans” in the movie.
@@sableempire9654 I agree 100%. On another note it's interesting to see that this universal theme can be found in almost all of James Cameron's movies. In Terminator the humans are the spiritual beings threatened by AI and in Avatar it's the other way around.
If Star Wars was handled the same way Avatar was, maybe Star wars would have been incredible.

Definite maybe. Lucas took 16 years to release The Phantom Menace which (wasn't bad but) wasn't exactly a masterpiece.
Lucas' prequels suffered from him not being a great dialogue writer. The sequels suffered from too many Producer cooks being in the kitchen instead of allowing a singular, passionate creative Director maintain a vision - they didn't suffer from being rushed as much as it was that they were cash grabs.
James Cameron obviously wants Avatar to be successful, but at the end of the day, it's a passion project of his not just a cash grab.

Recently revisited Avataar 1 and boy didn't appreciate the movie as much back in 2009!! The visuals are still way better than most CGI VFX heavy flicks that came after. It amazes me how well James Cameron and the tech team depicted the play of light on all the objects it falls and doesn't
Sadly with Disney taking over Lukas (star wars etc) and Marvel the quality of special effects has really slipped in those franchises.
@@jayhartbarger2793 Disney has had a quantity over quality approach the last 2-3 years after Endgame came out sadly. I think people are also a bit over the whole super hero thing at the moment because there's just too much of it.
I went to watch it in imax 3D a couple months back when they brought it back for the anniversary and it was really really mind blowing how insane the third act felt watching in that format for someone who genuinely despises 3D lol
@@Cash42 I think a LOT of films after Avatar tried doing 3D but they were using the technology in ways where it was too in your face. What I love about Camerons use is that it adds depth to scenes, there are particles floating through the air, plants and other objects in the foreground but out of focus for some examples. It's stuff like that which makes the 3D more immersive than just using it because they can.
I can't wait to see this new one in imax.
The lighting and wetness of the characters is even crazier in the sequel

Yeah I didn't know she played the daughter until after the movie. She is fantastic in alien aliens. Probably the most epic strong female character in movie history with Ripley. She can alternate between being gentle and motherly and tough so easily. Us men don't have that ability

I saw it and it definitely needs to be seen in 3D in a theater. It is BIG and the graphics/3D are incredibly smooth and detailed. TV won't do this justice.

People would think it's easy peasy but James Cameron is actually, through filmmaking, helping develop technology for future filmmakers and other uses as well.
It’s even helping games. Lightstorm is working with Ubisoft on the Frontiers if Pandora game to develop their engine to create a system that allows for dense forest areas that don’t crash a pc with every frame.
George Lucas did similar things with ILM. Hate the prequels all you want, but they really pushed effects in a way never seen before. Without jar jar, we wouldn't have Thanos.
James Cameron is a pure genius. Developed further water travel technology, his cgi effects, and just so much extra technomancy magic brings this sequel so much life. Honestly, haven't had this much fun watching a movie since the lotr trilogy.

the „post movie depression“ hits hard. i feel like i left pandora and have to live my „normal life“ again. it was a great movie. i loved the graphics a lot. didn‘t feel like 3 hours❤excited for the next one🎉

I just came home from the iMAX theater and I'm still shaken. I'm determined. I'm heartbroken. I'm hopeful as well as I am sorry. Sorry for all the nasty things that we are doing to this beautiful earth. Sorry for our endless greed and our inability to look ourselves in the mirror. Sorry for the oceans that we are poisoning. For the forests that we are cutting down. For the soil that we are draining. I couldn't help but see that we are both the Na'avi and the Sky People. We have both natures in us. We can be compassionate to other living beings and we can butcher them when we are asleep to our cruelty. It is an awesome piece of art. It's a shame that the word awesome has lost all its weight but it's the closest word that describes it. I was filled with awe, wonder, reverence, and mystery all the way through. I saw myself in both sides of the equation. The light and the dark. The saint and the sinner. But in the midst of all of those fight scenes and grandeur, it was clear to me just how pertinent the message is. That the bond of family, community and our connection to nature are more important than everything else. No amount of technological advancement will replace the joy of swimming with friends who have your back and feeling the sun on your skin. No amount of metaverse shenanigans will bring more fulfillment than seeing pride on your father's face when he realizes that he raised a good person. All is lost when we sever the connections of humanity, spirit and playfulness. Those are the things that make us what we are. Thank you Cameron for your wake-up call. May we be kinder to all beings.

I saw the movie in IMAX 3d two days ago now and I still can't shake this feeling it left me with that I can't even really put into words.
It's kinda like I just saw an animated movie full of metaphors for our lives that somehow looked more real & felt more literally a true depiction of our society than any other film I've ever seen.
And the world is so beautiful. Except you know the real world you live in isn't as beautiful or respectful of life, you live in the Sky People world and you can't ever move out. I'm left thinking maybe I can at least visit for a few hours if I can find time to see the movie again!

I love Jim Cameron. One of few true blockbuster auteurs left, who really sees movies as escapism and an experience but also treats them as work of art. The movie world is blessed to have a visionary like him..

Loved the way of water. The effects were amazing, the high frame rate scenes in the water were incredible. Loved every minute of it.
I really liked the way of water. I thought it raised the bar while also opening up potential plotlines for the future more than the first did.
There are only very few movies out there that actually provides an escapism temporarily. To me, Avatar (2009) did it. The sequel was a much more heightened experience for me. Loved it!
Avatar is a 3-hour love story… that’s it, if it was directed by some nobody, people would hate the movie. I remember thinking it was the best movie ever then rewatched it a couple of years later and was like wtf… I was hypnotised by the graphic and visuals.
@@scottsterling4713 Ridley Scott is an iconic director and people still criticized many of his movies. There's a reason why Avatar 1 and 2 had such a huge impact. It's the magic and, in the second one, many lovable characters.

@@scottsterling4713 I dont care who directed it. I loved it when i first saw it, and the next 6 times i saw it at home. Avatar is a good movie. It may be full of cliches, but it is a genuinely well made movie, with a message that resonates with many people, myself included.
This explains why majority of the film felt so grounded eventhough it was 98% CGI! I kept thinking how these actors and the animators made it look so convincing. It is because there was a practical reference to everything!
Just finished watching it in 3D and my god it was jaw dropping! James Cameron exist to make Avatar. You have to see it to believe it, it’s truly immersive.
I don't know that anyone besides James Cameron could have made Avatar what it is to cinema and just the world in general... He just seems like a down to earth, ambitious, and honest dude. He has such an innate desire to help push the industry forward and test the limits of technology; his work shows for it. I can't wait to see the rest of the series.

He really does put in the work to make these movies the best that they can be.
Everyone always talks about how generic the plot of the first one was, and I'm already seeing people say the same about this one, but what I feel like everyone misses is that although there are indeed plenty of movies that have lots of similarities to the Avatar movies, the Avatar movies still stand out due to the amount of effort and care that's been put into them.
They may be fairly standard action/adventure movies, not fundamentally different from the rest of the genre, but that doesn't change the fact that these are pretty much the highest quality movies within the entire genre.
Originality is overrated, original concepts are worthless if they're not well executed, and relatively standard formulas can still be turned into masterpieces when you have the talent and dedication.
I did not expect sigourney to play a younger version of herself and aced it. When I heard kiri’s voice, I did not expect someone who was in her middle-ages. Phenomenal job, Sigourney!

The "papyrus"-Font question was my favorite. I always wanted to here James reaction to that. :D :D But to be honest the whole interview was really refreshing and felt way better than most of the other interviews I saw. BBC always gets on a friendly base with the people they have as guests.

Characters were hastily introduced and terribly developed. Did anybody care when the older brother died? Not really. Why? Because his character wasn’t properly introduced and developed.

@@naenaeboy7062 I think everyone should figure this out after watching the movie. I just came home after watching it. This was more like a "setup" movie. Setup for some bat shit crazy action in the next one. I mean the first half was all about introducing us the new characters (the sully children) and developing them and make them grow on us. 2nd half was a mini battle to drive home the family bond. I mean the entire human base is still intact and growing. They basically fought the "hunting squad". At the end of the movie, Jake declared his stand. Next movie or the one after is War.
James Cameron is one of the greatest visionary directors of all time! He’s made classics with Titanic, Aliens, Terminator 1 and 2 and the Avatar movies 👏👏👏👏

I really appreciate what Cameron said there at the end... about Avatar having a numinous element to it. It's something I've been arguing for among my own film buddies. They'll say, "Oh, Avatar is just blue Pocahontas, or Dances with Wolves and FernGully..." these are the obvious nay sayings we often hear. My response usually is, "You have no idea what that movie is really about do you?"
The numinous element is what I've simply referred to as religious experience. There is a reason that movie resonated with so many more people outside of the US than in it. The larger world hasn't totally left behind it's spiritual roots.

The Way of Water is the best cinematic experience I've had since the first Avatar.

The amount of work and dedication actors and the whole group put into work for the audience, is unreal. We're really blessed to have born in this world.

Goddamn did this movie surprise me. I had almost 0 expectations going in and was blown away. The CGI is legitimately the best I've ever seen, and it was surprisingly refreshing to revisit Pandora and catch up with the characters of the first movie. I wholeheartedly recommend checking it out, see it in 3D at the theatre if you can.
Guys believe me don't miss this movie to watch in IMAX 3D what a experience. Masterpiece !!
Avatar is one of those films that just gets better each time you watch it! Small details you catch! And honestly I’m glad Matt turned down the role - I don’t think it would’ve turned out the same without Sam.

I enjoyed this movie more than any other movie before. I liked the connection between nature and the Navi 's , how they could connect to everything around and how they respect every life. The family, unity and care of the parents and how the kids were able to save their parents, also I loved the answer of the nature and resonance because the Sea living things responded and helped to protect them...The pain of a parent while losing a son...Zoe was so real...this movie probably will take all the prizes for 2023...

The directing was so fucking lazy, you are so distracted, 1 thing would made the movie so much better, no narration, no reason pointless, that's a lazy move unless there is a reason like the first one video log, second there is no point going after him.... weak premise, second you had to put a female Jesus in there, third writing was shit, 4th completely incompetent with no character development of the character they killed off, creating nonsense drama at the end that was just soft, this guy isn't even close to being in the top 25 to 30 directors he is all cgi, T2 was the best he did, and don't talk about titanic bro just don't, acting and cgi and the actual history of that was what made the not James Cameron, quick question what did you think about the movie "the menu" that just came out? From the interview, James didn’t give a f if people will say the story is weak. There’s a lot more layers to film more than just a story, and he prove it right. I enjoy this movie even-though the story is the same as before (with different aspect)

I just wish he wasn’t so scared to kill characters off (if it’s his decision, I dont know). only avatar family character who dies is the one with the least character development, way less sad than it could have been, but I get it’s probably to not traumatize children
@@migatocomeoscuridad I think it was a safe option and more of a character development type of movie for the new faces. Especially the younger son.
In the next movies, we will likely see a more impactful death since the characters will have already more time with the audience by that point.

i went to watch Avatar Way of Water in my local theater tonight. IT WAS SOOO GOOD! I was not sure if James could make the 2nd one as good if not better than the first one. It was sooo good! I was in awe the entire 3.5 hours of the film. I loved the emphasis on family being a fortress! Way to go James! Way to go! Fantastic story! I developed a strong emotional connection with all the characters. It was so great! Thank you, thank you!
Same! I honestly think it should of went for 4 hours to give more time to the spider/quaritch relationship, but being pregnant I had to rush to the bathroom in the middle of it and nobody ever seen a prego run so fast lol

It's garbage, terrible writing, terrible acting, terrible and incompetent director. It's at its best when showing CGI backdrops and not being a movie because as a movie it's just as bad as the first if not somehow worse.

I think the reaction people have who are amazed by the movie vs bored out of their mind has to do with the desire to be immersed in another world. If you wish to be imaginative and apart of the world you let go of this one and fall in love with the films world, if you hold on to our world you can only see CGI blue people and pretty colors and would prefer to see something human from home. Every detail is alien and took countless years to develop and imagine but I know many people who don't prefer imaginative exercise and that's their choice.

I saw the movie. Brilliant work I must say.. I want to congratulate every person who worked on this movie because it is indeed a masterpiece and I have NEVER seen a movie with such amazing visuals and attention to detail. I was seriously taken away to another world for 3 hours.
Words cannot describe enough.
The CGI was next level, it's blending into realism which allows directors to have a whole new level of freedom in designing. James Cameron pioneered this ventured and took his time to deliver until the technology was up to scratch, people owe him (or will eventually) a lot of gratitude for enhancing the cinema experience and directors will be thanking him for making their movies that much better using this hyper realistic blend of CGI and live action.
Imagine fantasy games like World of Warcraft using this technology in a movie ^^ game changer.

Credit to the engineers that made the technology possible, they are the true heroes. They maybe invisible and in the background but they deserve the adulation and praise they receive.
I hope James Cameron can stay alive long enough to finish the sequels. He's getting up there in age, life is fragile.
It is a must-see for any fan of the Avatar franchise.

Pandora and everything in it is probably the best fictional world ever made. It actually makes me want to live in that world where flora and fauna live together in harmony and coexist perfectly.

You already do. Flora and fauna exist in harmony on earth. Earth is full of life! We have everything here just like in the movie.
Middle Earth is just as good and more complex with the same spiritual message of nurturing familial connections and make love not war.

The death of the bigger brother was dumb. Not so emotional since they can always plug to the planet and see him.
The whale hunting and the whale making revenge was the best part. I found the death of the eldest son emotional. It's painful if you put in yourself in the parents shoes.

A perfect combination of CGI , love and Spirituality, made this movie an extraordinary experience to the senses! I love how James Cameron is trying to bring the spiritual angle to the movie. Being a Hindu i can immediately connect with the title of the movie , the love, the war, the meditation scene, the prayer beads, eywa, the connection of self with the concept of ocean ( In hindu spirituality , ocean symbolises pure consciousness/brahman/one true reality, which connects everything). It was like a de ja vu moment for me, cuz the concept and idea behind the movie is already there in the ancient Indian scriptures. I really am excited to see the upcoming movies! If he's going to give more importance to the spiritual aspect of the story, I can already see where he's heading too!

Nah Matt Damon is too well known it’d be distracting. He was great in his earlier movies but in recent ones, he is just Matt Damon and can’t really seem to become the characters. I don’t want to be distracted in the middle of the movie and be like ah there’s Matt Damon.
Avatar 2 is a gorgeous experience! Such a great sequel and it’s better than the first film.

"Son for a son" did the trick for me... In the final act twice it was mentioned and the contact between the two times summarised the whole movie and i think even the sequels
The movie is so good and feels so real that If somehow the Navi actually exist and they visited my neighborhood, I wouldn't think anything of it other than to say, "Oh hey, hi guys."
I’m 70 years old and get up and pee about 4 times during sleep. I didn’t leave the theater one time. Totally glued to the movie.
I love Avatar the movie. Cameron didn't even have to organise a story line. I'd be happy just be on Pandora looking around.

@@JohnDavidSullivan I agree 100% but James Cameron and the Avatar are the last to blame for it at least. Mostly to blame on the Hollywood complex that has opted for quantity over quality for way too long. At least Cameron makes his few and far in between movies count with their depth and quality!
@@ArnoldSig yeah in James Cameron's case it is always a case of too much style over zero substance. I will also say that his script and dialogue is still as cringe now as it was back in the 80's - if not considerably worse. But I will agree entertaining visually is something he is good at. As you say it's the Hollywood machine - the MCU has proven if we throw enough money at the wall with CGI something good will come out of it. I love CGI and effects driven entertainment normally but the Superhero genre is part of the reason I'm done with it all - I was done after Avengers Endgame. I think right now Dune is the only film series I am interested in but that is only because Denis Villeneuve is the only director these days (at least as far as I am aware) that can actually combine style and substance and produce something decent.
there are certain movies or franchises that you just feel a part of, imaging yourself inside. Star Wars is the obvious answer for most, but Avatar and that world is a place you just hope is out there somewhere.

I just wrote an essay for my film class about how impactful Avatar has been throughout my childhood, so I won’t go into that. I just don’t understand why every where I go people have to constantly hate on Avatar. Sometimes movies are just special to people. Sometimes they just bring out nostalgia & the love of the world around them & reminds them of family, etc. There’s so many movie series like Star Wars, Marvel, Harry Potter, etc that people cherish. Those movies aren’t particularly ground breaking but they bring out the childlike wonder in people. It’s beautiful to love something like a movie with other people.. it connects you to them & gives you something in common. It’s also a place to talk about what the movie means to you, especially if you grew up with it. Avatar fans, like myself, haven’t really ever had that fandom because there weren’t any sequels for many years. Now we’re getting Pandora at Magic Kindgom & we’re getting sequels, but people can’t just let Avatar fans be Avatar fans. It’s always, oh the graphics were great but the plot was bad.. the plot connects themes of animal & cultural conservation with the importance of family. The story of cultural erasure & humans destroying the earth will be told many times, because it’s important. Storytelling is apart of human civilization & Avatar is putting the most important message for our world on the biggest screen with the most beautiful graphics. The graphics aren’t what make the movie good, the graphics are the tool to tell the story in a way it’s never been told. It inspired me from a young age to care about our world. Anyway, it’s fine to criticize a movie, but to call people who love it “simple” or whatever is just so odd to me. James Cameron is a deep sea diver.. this is literally his two passions combined.. it is how he sees the world. He sees the world the way we see Pandora.

This was the problem with the star wars sequel trilogy. They never had a plan and didn't write the scripts first. That is totally stupid ! I know scripts can change...but at least if you have an outline on where you are going.....makes it easier. I saw the original 5 times in imax 3d....will be seeing this multiple times as well. Supporting James cameron !!!
There wasn’t a plan for the original trilogy either. Or The Dark Knight Trilogy. There’s no guarantees. Stop blaming a lack of plan.
The problem with the sequel trilogy is they didn’t have someone at the helm who knew what the fuck they were doing like James Cameron.
