Umbara in the star wars: the clone wars show is actually shown with rose tinted glasses believe it or not, in the comics and the book series (does anyone know if they are still makeing the books i cant seem to find them anymore?) is actually alot more vicious.
@@Suncowow Agreed. Jabiim and Merson are ones I can think off the top of my head that were absolutely brutal (Palpatine even speaks about not releasing the actual casualties for Jabiim to the public because it would lower morale too much). At least Umbara ended in a Republic victory with most of the troops still intact. During Merson basically all Republic troops onworld were killed within the first day of fighting so vast and entrenched were the CIS armies. Even the first Battle of Kamino featured the clone sickness, a biologically engineered virus, that targeted clones and was spread throughout the air systems which little could be done to save those infected (it caused their skin to boil off in hives or something horrific). @@cloudcover540 The Unsullied loved Dany because they made her cause their own. She freed them and offered tbem riches and honor. She freed them and let them choose their own leaders.
Good video. No army is immune to criticism and bad decisions. With that said the clone army was too expensive. The clones could have been deployed as battlefield commanders and generals. Leading high grade droids and B-1 to fill in their ranks. Jedi and other special units would be used as shock troops and special forces. In general not as leaders. but as Force multipliers. Skill Jedi commanders. Would still lead certain units.
Which proves how bad their army was configured. 90% of Jedi shouldn't have been in leadership positions. And they put all their eggs into making clones.
Yes I did watch the movie's. And yes the point was not for the republic to win. It was for palpatine to win. From that point of view. The war was a smashing success. With the exception of a few escape Jedi of course. My point is not what efficient for the emperor. but For the republic. And CIS for that matter. And just because palpatine was pulling the strings. Doesn't mean common sense and military logistics / strategy go out the window. Even today the US army looks at supply routes. military lines. And the cost to support all surrounding activity. But it kind of seems a bit like Spaceballs when nobody looks at the total expense. Manpower. weaponry. gear. transportation. supply lines. By filling in their ranks with some cheaper units they could hold their ground better and defend more worlds.
Palpatine needed to draw out the war! For palpatine war was good for business. For the republic war was bad for business. And for the CIS a long war was bad for business. But a short war and negotiations would be highly profitable. This is only science fictionand I guess one reason why I'm a big fan of generation Tech's TH-cam channel. Is breaking down the strengths and weaknesses of all parties in film.
And that's what makes Star wars so fun. And I do admit that generation tech is it be overzealous. But you should have seen what the dolphins did to Atlantis!!
Why clones died even whilst wearing armor? Easy, Clones wore the armor because it stopped blaster fire from tearing them apart / leaving massive holes or burning them to dust... So when the blaster fire hit instead of going right through the clones 99% of the time it impacted and broke the bones and even sometimes from impact the shockwave would liquify internals. But it's faster to grab a clone with broken bones from the battlefield fix him up and send him back out then re-grow a new clone. This way you're able to keep the army population up rather than having to rely on new batches of clones and wasting them.
Plus, it took a decade for a mature batch of clones to be battlefield ready. It was crucial to keep those that could still fight in the pool in case the fresh batches needed more time.
@@DefectiveDetective420 that's why the Republic decided in legends to open up additional cloning facilities that used a different cloning technique that could grow a clone to maturity within a year, Coruscants moon Centax-II was hallowed out and converted into a massive cloning facility that cranked out millions of Spaarti Clones

The whole slave army thing was largely ignored but if you read the fantastic and sadly unfinished Republic Commando books at least one Jedi felt strongly enough about it to try and fight it in a way. Bardan Jusik left the order and jumped whole hog into Kal's plan to set up a safe haven for clones.
At least the Clones mention it as part of their existence, but yeah, the Jedi never lift a finger to stop it or talk to the Republic Senate to alleviate their conditions despite the war being more pressing
@AHL Productions Well to play devil's advocate here, most of the market share of the franchise comes from younger audiences. Something like TCW or even the last two seasons of Rebels are a good compromise, as they are still kid-friendly but take on more gritty and darker themes. That being said, I wouldn't mind something like that! Mandalorian is shaping up to be a bit more adult than the animated series were.
You know, I always assumed that since the Empire was based off the Third Reich, than the Clone Wars was the equivalent of World War 1. I didn't know I was more right than I realized...
@Mythic It may not be as overt as some of the ties with the Empire and the Reich, but even if not intended at first really did become more like it. Obviously some changes occur because of how the Star Wars universe is and all, but things like the blockade of Naboo and attempted assassination of Padme do roughly approximate events leading up to the start of WW1, the GAR as I recall was smaller than the CIS army (Germany/Austria-Hungary vs Russia) and a smaller navy (Imperial German Navy vs Royal Navy). Many of the campaigns became bogged down and fairly static much like WW1 trench warfare that lasted for months on end. Catastrophic destruction and civilian casualties, laying waste to cities/towns/planets, development of attack aircraft and fighters (yes these existed before in their universe however the development seen in media of the Clone Wars resembles more development of WW1 planes as the war progressed), armoured and mobile warfare have some mirroring, and the GAR troop uniforms slowly evolve toward what we see the Empire's uniforms become for soldiers just like WW1 in to the Reich. Overall the clone wars has quite a few similarities. How intentional or not can be debated.

War is rarely a conflict between ''good vs evil''. Instead, most of the time it functions as a ''scale of grays''. The more darker the conflict becomes, better for the manipulations of the Sith. Sidious in that regard was a genius.

It's honestly kind of a wonder that civilization managed to progress to the point that it has in the Star Wars Galaxy. It's like the place can barely go a decade without a galactic scale civil war. Sometimes TWICE in one decade. It's nuts.
Morale of the story. No matter which side you're on, prepare to murder civilians. Or their livelihood and everything they depend on for survival. I'm writing a script for a Live-Action Clone Wars TV Show that will be far different than the original animated one. This means more battles, more story, more behind the scenes things that we never see in the films and TV Shows, and finally, points of view that aren't all from Characters like Annikan, Obi-Wan, Asoka, etc. This means that you'll get a lot more from the clones than you did in the Clone Wars. I'm working on the Pilot Episode which will tell three stories happening at the first Battle of Geonosis. I commented here since I know there are a lot of Star Wars fans here and I wanted to hear some input on the idea, recommendations, and maybe even some requests for episodes.
Ill give you your first idea. Two capital ships one republic one Confederate fighting it out like old pirate battles. A small group of clones is tasked the infiltrating the Confederate ship and sabotaging it from the inside. But they quickly find it wont be an easy task, most of the band dies with only a single clone setting the explosives before being shot by a large group of droids.
Accusation: Jedi were not very good generals. Reality: With no other armies, Jedi were the only ones with any training in military history, tactics, and strategy available. They were the best available. Accusation: Jedi treated their clones poorly. Counter accusation: citation needed. If you bring up the Traviss as your only source, please get fucked. She also portrayed the Jedi as ineffective fighters more like space hippies. Reality: With no armies available, combat logicians had to figure out even basic logistics from scratch. Kaminoans had a system that worked. The Republic had to use that until they figured a different and useable way. Accusation: Blasters are bad... Reality: Blasters were the standard weapon across the galaxy.
Yeah, I agree. I think if the Jedi were a part of the actual military and worked with them rather than over them like how we see in the show, more battles would have been won, or at least been a bit more decisive. Letting the Jedi Code get in the way of Vanilla Military tactics was the biggest mistake the republic could have made. In rare cases, like with Plo Koon, Anakin, Obi-wan and a select few other Jedi, they would be able to effectively lead and it worked out well. Notice, these Jedi saw their clones as human beings, and actual people with personalities, and not just tools of war. But even then, Anakin was constantly second guessing whether the Jedi Way was really the right way to win the war. Remember what Tarkin had said that lead Anakin to say “Maybe he’s right. Maybe the Jedi Code keeps us from achieving victory in this war” or something along those lines. You’ll find it at the end of the Citadel Arc, where Tarkin states if more Jedi were like Anakin, the Military structure and tactics wouldn’t be a complete shit show.
I also wonder how conscription didn't become a thing in the Clone Wars. Both sides had MASSIVE populaces to draw on, and I can't help but think that it would have likely been cheaper(At least for the Republic) to train existing people rather than grow them, then train and equip them.
To be fair, jedi like anakin also got better results for the fact that HE ACTUALLY LISTENED TO HIS SUBORDINATES! It seems more like a lot of the other jedi just do what they think is right and barely consult the men who trained for years to literally fight this war
Thunder Cricket I imagine that most people didn’t want to fight, and the few who did would have joined and fought along clones. I figure since clones are genetically engineered and enhanced, normal troops would get in the way, so they’d be separate battalions for them, and most people who got conscripted would be put in more defense positions than attack ones.
Archangel Azrael Exactly. They trusted the force, but even then the Jedi who did often used it as an excuse to not really do anything. It’s honestly ridiculous they’d get high command positions with very little experience and overall had no intent on winning most of the time, but instead just doing the bare minimum.
This was a really interesting take on the clone wars. I never really thought about the republic commitng these atrocities but i wasnt all that suprised that they did something. I never expected this much though this video was really enlightening thank you!!
I love Rogue One. and I'm sure as hell if the director did a movie about Clone Troopers who joined the Rebellion fighting Clone Troopers who stayed in the Empire would be fking amazing. It should end with Rex leading his squad of Rebel Commandos and Rebel Clone Troopers vs Cody and his Dark Troopers. the climax would be a knife fight between the two as Vode An plays in the background.
What most people don't understand, is that conflict and violence are stepping stones on the path of the Dark Side. The effect they have on the mind, emotions, and will of the Jedi that joined the war, was utterly intoxicating. The more they used their abilities for the purpose of war and destruction, the more tempting that use became. To excel in the indulgence of such power, was to guarantee their inevitable fall. Simply participating in the war, ultimately doomed them to Darkness. They couldn't see their own downfall, because they were blinded by their own corruption. The Force is neutral. Darkness and Light belong only to the wielder. You can either surrender yourself to the Will of the Force, or you can make It surrender to your own. Either way...the Force responds to the Will of the user.
Whenever I played bf2 and see actual squads that colored out as wolf, star corps, 501st. I love seeing diff platoons in the game working together especially when star Corp's show up at khashk(I forgot how to spell it but the wookie homeland)
It's really weird actually that the Republic and jedi are treated like the good guys in The Clone Wars: they use a slave army built by eugenicists. It's also very condemning of the jedi order that they go along with the Republic using a slave army. I find the lore interesting, and I enjoy The Clone Wars TV series, but some of the lore (mainly in the prequel trilogy) seems really badly thought out. For example the original concept of Clone Wars being against clones makes far more sense than the canon.
I personally loved the Republic Commando series, which did cover some of the atrocities the Commandos experienced due to poor leadership. 10k Republic Commandoes were on Geonosis, only 5k came back. Clones who were "unstable" held up barracks and refused to come out in fear of being iced. Black ops soldiers chased after rouge ARC troopers (the original 100).
Great Video. I really do wish they had showed us things like this in the various shows. You pretty much have to crack open the novels and comics to learn this stuff. It is still present as a underlying theme sometimes, though often just not focued on.
I'd love a trilogy of a show about the Sith in hiding during the high republic age. If I made it, it would feature the Sith as the protagonists and not paint them as entirely evil. The Jedi could be shown as a bit more brutal organization as we've previously seen. It would have a wise Sith lord who takes a new apprentice and teaches him about the corrupt society of the Jedi. It would be cool to also see a younger and less experienced Yoda, maybe not yet a master. Maybe even a bit arrogant. Star Wars has always been told from the perspective of the Jedi and thus, made them look like the good guys and the Sith like the bad guys. Everyone always forget how the Jedi and the Sith are two extremes and not simply good and evil.
Order 66 was originally supposed to be executed because the Clones hated Jedi so much because of their recklessness. There was even a cut out scene in RoTS where the clone executed a Jedi on Felucia with an ATTE and then stepped on her limp body with it.
This is a great video showcasing a topic that kinda gets swept under the rug sometimes when people talk about Star Wars. I feel this dynamic--that both sides condoned and created atrocities, with their troopers and civilians caught in the crossfire--is what makes the Clone Wars era so incredibly interesting to me. :) I think what it says about war, whether wars of the past or future, is really on the head and important. I know 'technically' it's not canon but the Dark Horse Clone Wars comics (see "The Best Blades" and "Battle for Jabiim") showcase some great examples of some really severe lapses in intel and preparation that caused major ripples in the history of the Star Wars universe. [spoilers if you haven't read those books yet] The Battle of Merson literally entailed every single Republic trooper and Jedi onworld were killed within the first day of fighting as the CIS army was revealed to be too vast and entrenched for them. Jabiim's battle ended with the pocket of Republic survivors literally being evacuated from the planet, leaving their Jabiimese supporters left to fend for themselves. I think the battle of Jabiim featured the second most number of Jedi killed in action during a single campaign in any of the Clone Wars battles (second to the first battle of Geonosis). [end of spoilers] And these failed campaigns are just Palpatine's machinations, your point that many of the Jedi were dispassionate toward their troops is exactly right. When it came to sowing distrust, frustration, and even hatred among their troops and their civilian supporters Palpatine barely had to lift a finger. There were so many Jedi that were content to brush aside their lack of experience and subsequent casualties/failures as to not be affected emotionally, and to maintain their dignified rank.

I wish we could see how more of the Jedi treated the clones. Most of the time we see jedi-clone interaction, they act like best friends. Yoda, Plo-Koon, Anakin, Obi-Wan, Ashoka etc, etc. Outside of Krell we never get to see just how the clones were really treated.
Don't forget that PTSD was probably a thing, especially in clones.
Rex specifically states that clones are immune to psychological stress in the episode where Tup kills Tiplee
@@rocekth PTSD is diagnosable and is considered a mental condition, not stress. There is a difference of staying calm in battle and seeing your friends get cut in half by a crazed robotic general.
Chris. They were genetically altered to be immune to shell shock/post traumatic stress disorder.

The books you may be looking for are graphic novels by Dark Horse Comics. They have splendid art and dialogue, and are indeed hard to come by. I was lucky to purchase many of them when they came out around 2002-2005. Sadly, since Disney took over, they seem to be out of print.

Unfinished?

Anthony Murray dude the clone wars have a lot in common with different conflicts. Why? Because it’s a fictional WAR. Your whole argument is like. Well ppl died in ww1 just like in the clone wars so.
It was based off Rome's Republic transitioning to an Empire.

Thank you why do people shit on the Jedi for shit reasons like they had flaws but not the ones people consistently bring up
Yeah, I agree.
Thunder Cricket
I imagine that most people didn’t want to fight, and the few who did would have joined and fought along clones.
I figure since clones are genetically engineered and enhanced, normal troops would get in the way, so they’d be separate battalions for them, and most people who got conscripted would be put in more defense positions than attack ones.
Archangel Azrael
Exactly. They trusted the force, but even then the Jedi who did often used it as an excuse to not really do anything.
It’s honestly ridiculous they’d get high command positions with very little experience and overall had no intent on winning most of the time, but instead just doing the bare minimum.

It should end with Rex leading his squad of Rebel Commandos and Rebel Clone Troopers vs Cody and his Dark Troopers. the climax would be a knife fight between the two as Vode An plays in the background.
Ew.
Yeah this is kinda weird.

Step one of being a TH-camr, say ”Us” when referring to yourself to make it seem like more then just you worked on the video.
[end of spoilers]
And these failed campaigns are just Palpatine's machinations, your point that many of the Jedi were dispassionate toward their troops is exactly right.
