so as a baby i lost both legs. i have achieved my black belts in shotokan and judo. even fought semi pro MMA 9 w 1 loss. now I'm getting ready to turn 50 I need to think of other defense systems to help me. I'm pretty much wheelchair bound now. arms are worn out. do you think a type of 1 stick kali would be beneficial to my self defense
This is bringing back memories! I learned reverse strikes in what was called the five attack sub system in pikiti tirsia arnis back in the 80s by my instructor William McGrath. Up until now, I’ve never publicly seen any instructor mention reversed strikes. Kudos to you you have the best FMA, Contin!
nice vid, i trained in sticks when i was younger in the 80-90 they are a great thing to know. also a stick in most countries not an illegal weapon. im old now and carry a cane with me for my bad back. i made it myself from a shorten boken i broke the tip off of. it is now carved with a winged serpent design and has the head and tip capped in brass. perfect for walking and smashing heads if it comes to it.
I always carry a magazine, my mate and I found ourselves in a situation where I used the magazine as a Kali stick. On civvy street never carry an obvious weapon. Cool Vidclips!
I am an English teacher and a Karateka. I have interest in learning the use of different combat techniques and weapons. Thank you for giving me my next target.
You could have tables of arc vs arc for different distances, angles (left right center) and sidedness (same vs same, left vs right/right vs left) and cadences If you had this, you could then compare winning, (counter) arcs with losing (counter)arcs that are similar. Then try to avoid all arcs (paths) that has too many similar losin arcs (paths) so your motion gets more efficient with less effort. Conseqently you should then realize that given your opponent posture you could "know" what set of paths you should do before the attack is gone too far (too far is defined as opponent moves into s position where your set of paths (arcs) has many similar failing arcs (paths) to the successful path(s) you have to pick from.) You want to set up yourself for success by having no failing paths (if possible) similar to your set of winning paths.
You teach Kali, which is a Filipino martial art. So why do you use the Japanese word 'Dojo' referring to your training area? You should use the Filipino word. Why do you want to mix languages that shouldn't be mixed? You have trained in the Filipino martial arts for a long time. Have any of your teachers called your training facility a dojo? I highly doubt it.

@Indian Master G As a karateka, you must find it interesting that he uses the Japanese term dojo when he is teaching a Filipino martial art.

I am going to use Kali to destroy the enemy!
I usually practice Arnis or Kali as body conditioning only and flywheel exercise. I noticed that is kinda modern pilipino martial arts or arnis.
Thanks Paul for always share your knowledge, and your dojo is awesome🙏🙏🙏👍
